View Full Version : Did Infamous live up to the hype?

The concept lived up to the hype but not the episode. It was too fast paced and too many things were going on. I didn't feel that there was much substance to most of what was happening. This felt like it should have been a two-parter.

I loved it! I'm unbelievably happy with the episode. It was perfect. This is the building of Clois, the creation of Superman, the demise of our favorite character: Chloe.
It was perfect. And Tori Spelling was HILLARIOUS!!! She was so funny and spot on with irony and possession of her character. I loved it.

Horrible episode...... but typical of the ridiculous writing.
Clark did a great job reinforcing the idea that he's a coward, pansy, and cant make decisions for himself without something happening. Jor-El should have forced him into his training....
I dont think it takes a genious to figure out how the remaining episodes for this season, as well as next season will play out..... Its going to be the typical Lana/Clark crap all over again, but with Lois this time.

I also thought the episode was too short for all they needed to show, but still good.
But there were 2 things missing:
1: Clark taking his head out of his as5 and going to sit with Lois for a SIMPLE COFFE!!
2: The big Clois SMOOCH I was totally expecting!!
I definitely need to go spoiler-free because these spoilers just mess up my brain!!:(

No it was very good but not quite perfect It would hav been perfect if lois and clark would have kissed at least once even just shortly before clark used the ring to reverse time and if he had simply hid the ring instead of totally destroying it.

I think most people are missing the fact that this builds the desire for Lois and Clark. Honestly, the writers were ingenious this season pimping Lois for a full 22 next season. She is arguably the most carefully thought out and planned character of the show.
The fact S9 was in the bag (likely unofficially before Clana) proves it.

that's exactly how Lois would react. i mean, if your friend told you they were a superhero, you'd probably laugh too. what was she supposed to do?
I think it partially did. There were a lot of great scenes in the episode, but the whole storyline with Linda kinda felt flat at certain points.I really loved this episode, especially after coming back from such a long hiatus and the heartbreak with Clark and Lana.I think it could be one of the top ones this season, but Bloodline,Identity, abyss, and Legion right now are among the ones that shine.

I was a little disappointed with the show. I wanted Lois to be on more (considering this was her first show back in months, I would have thought that the writers would have given her more to do.):\

Oh come on! You guys didn't really think that an idiot like Clark would take a chance at romance so soon?
Besides, this episode was a hell of a lot better than the past few ones. All the show needed was to get rid of that pesky Lana.
Oh what the hell! I liked it a lot. It wasn't perfect. But then I have never come across an episode of SMALLVILLE that was perfect. As for the time rewipe . . . this story called for it. There was no way Clark could move ahead after the havoc that Linda Lake had wrought.

Sorry, OP, I don't agree with you on this. I think this episode was great. It wasn't predicatble at all. I thought it would be like the Lois and Clark episode of the 90's, and once again I was surprised to see that it was completely different.
It was great the way everyone turned against Clark so fast, and the cops were instantly after him, his friends were even in trouble for harboring an alien. Everything went crazy fast. And the Legion ring was also a good twist. I didn't see that coming. I thought they would use the Fortress again, and it was good to see a resolution other than the Fortress. It was good to see that turning back time was Clark's only choice and it was NOT just a mopey over emotional decision for no reason. It actually had complete purpose.
Also, I love the way Lois and Clark interacted. It was great for Lois to tell Clark she understood, and it was great to see that she understood Clark was going back in time 2 days and she wouldn't remember his secret any longer.

I thought it was good despite fact i knew it was gonna be a reset from the beginning(i didn't even read any spoilers that's how predictable it was). I agree on the Clark slipping on the ring too fast, he could've waited 2 damn seconds to hear what Lois was trying to tell him.
It still feels like they're building towards the climatic battle between Clark and Doomsday so it wasn't entirely worthless.

If anything, I'd say I was a bit too spoiled (I caved and watched the clips), but that doesn't mean that this wasn't a great episode. It was quite fantastic, acutally (IMO).
I found myself frustrated by the commercials, and for the first time ever, I felt the Lois and Clark romance clicked. I always knew they'd get there, but seriously, the talk about how special Lois really is, and their texting game at the coffee shop - good stuff! I am definitely excited to see how that 'ship evolves.
... and I can't wait for next week. The trailer looked awesome!

Well about half way through, when the world has gone psycho on Clark and he declares he's going to use the ring i sort of thought 'oh, is that it...'
The idea was presented... we got to see a few miniscule ideas of what might have happened... but it wasn't actually explored. Like so many episodes before it, it needed to be a two parter. But they don't seem to like two parter AU's. (Apocolypse)
Now that i mention Apocolypse, most of the Clois stuff felt like it did back then... pointless because it wasn't actually going to stick.

For me, there was something missing. It felt rushed, and I was disappointed that Clark didn't just go over and sit with Lois. What's up with that? I thought Erica did an outstanding job in her scenes and delivering her lines with emotion, especially when she said that she wasn't special then again alone at the table in the end. Good to have Lois back after all this time, and she didn't disappoint last night.
TW seemed a little "stiff" to me, and I usually don't say that about him. I think it's a lot with the writing though for him too. Sometimes, I think they get lazy and just have him say the same sort of lines over again. Like in the beginning of the episode where he's like, "Linda Lake! What are you doing here?" That's it?
Doomsday actually scared me a little when he went after Chloe. Both AM and SW did a good job as did Tori Spelling.
I liked Hydro better with her. It was a better written episode. Again, I think it sort of boils down to them putting too much in one episode and not delving enough into the storyline or characters. In the beginning of the season they seemed to be putting more time and effort into it.
Either way it was an entertaining episode, but something was missing for me.

Becky, I just almost wrote something about a "two-parter" but deleted it from my previous post! I agree!! There's too much in one episode.
Although, I don't think that the Clois isn't pointless this time, because Clark realizes he does have feelings for her, and he knows now that she would accept him without question and still love and stand by him. That's something he was definitely impacted by in a good way.

Michèle, you are not the only one to say that Tom was not at his best for playing. I understand what you mean with his line, especially the one when Lois says to him "you don't understand" and he answers "Lois, I understand !" loool.
But apart of his lines, I find Tom perfect as Clark. He was the Clark we know especially with Lois (you know, shy, undecisive and slow lol). Look at his face in the last scene, it was amazing. This man has a true gift to show emotions without speaking...IMO. I think it is one of the best scene he has played.

Though I agree it would have been very great to have more time to developing many things. But in 40 mn what can you do ?

If I was a diehard Cloiser on here like some I would have been very disappointed. We hardly got any "iconic" interaction between Lois&Clark. It all felt very rushed.I wish we had more time with Lois "interviewing" Clark about his origins. Also were did Linda get all the info about Clark?? Especially the meteor showers and Lex?? Nodody on Smallville is THAT bright!!
Also when Clark stood Lois up "for the greater" good I found myself asking "Why are they taking a page out of the Spider-Man handbook?".Lots of people were hoping this episode(inlcuding me) would be filled with the classic Lois and Clark and although it was somewhat was I feel maybe we'll get more of what we want in either "Stiletto" or Season 9.

IMO eppie was sappy. the highlight of the whole thing was the Doomsday situation. totally out of character and place for clark the easily be "willing" to come out with his secret. just too darned easy in this eppie, not believable. i could undertsand if it was all a dream, but the fact that the "coming out" turned out to be real, only reset by time travel makes it even worse.
great job, writers! *buries face in hands and almost gives up hope*

I don't understand why so many people are bashing this episode. The only thing that really disappointed me was the reused time travel scenario, but we were given a Clark Kent who wanted to inspire people, who felt like his name should be highlighted for the sake of hope, and if it wasn't for Linda Lake perhaps he would've continued being that inspiration. He thought with his heart and with citizens in mind. I don't think it was necessarily stupid of him, but Superman is supposed to be a very compassionate, loving character, who DOES put his heart before his mind in certain matters. I didn't see him as a BDA, matter of fact I actually saw the potential of him becomign Superman. After 4 or 5 LONG episodes of Lana REGRESSING him beyond belief, it was nice to see this change of pace. I don't think this episode redeemed this series as a whole but it's definitely a stepping stone. IMO at least.

I just figured out why I was dissapointed with this episode...
On a second viewing, I paid closer attention to Clark and lois in the barn scene, and when Clark said, "Lois you don't understand. It's because you ARE special." At first I thought the writers were just giving Clark some wimpy lines to read, but now I understand that Clark's decision to use the ring was so that he could protect Lois from what would have come to pass had she kept sticking up for him. His desire to see her happy was the most important thing to him. I am no longer dissapointed with the episode, although it still should have been a two-parter.

It was pretty good, but there were times (although very few moments) where I dont know...it just seemed a little slow paced. Maybe redundant? No for me. Although considering the fact that I wasn't all that hyped to see it, that isn't saying much. I wasn't all that excited for this episode, so it wasn't a matter of having too high of an expectation for it.
I just felt underwhelmed watching it. First of all, I hate how the writers try to make the time reversal seem suprising and suspenseful when everyone knew it was coming. Also, I think the main problem with episodes like Reckoning and Infamous that have two different outcomes, is that they are never turned into 2 hour episodes like they should be. Everyone knows things will be undone, so where the episode needs to succeed is less in being suspenseful and more in the details. Scenes that need more detail like the intial Clois reveal and interview, end up being sped through and rushed. It would have been great to see Clark put on a power demonstration for Lois, and to see them sitting down face to face talking more in depth for the interview. It sucked how Clark says "I should tell you where I am from" and then it just cuts to the headline.
Deana

No it did not live up to the hype. It was awesome seeing Lois back but that Lana Arc ruined anything that comes behind it. Plus, Lois didn't even play a big of role as I thought she would be given in the episode. Her showing up at the beginning, disappearing until most of the episode is over pisses me off.

I feel the exact same way; the first i watched it I was like Wattt????? but on a second viewing, and watching it again, I truly understood Clark's words and meanings. I thought that Clark didn't love or even care for Lois by not telling Lois his secret; but it IS BECAUSE he cares for her so much, that he doesn't want to even put her in an inkling of trouble. although i dont understand why the writers did that; do they want us to feel that he doesn't care for Chloe or Lana by telling them? IDK, but to me thats what it meant. I hope not; but the bottom line was that he doesn't want anybody to know his secret, if he can avoid it at all costs, then he will. Only when outside circumstances present itself for him having to tell others his secret, THEN and only then, will he tell the person his secret. He doesn't want to tell his secret to anyone, IMO, if he can help it. But the thing is, there is only so much getting close to someone somebody can get to Clark, before finding out his secret. Same thing with Chloe, same thing with Lana; they could only get so close to Clark before finding out his secret.
The same pattern could happen with Lois; I have a feeling in the episodes to come Clark and Lois will get closer; it doesn't even have to be on a romantic matter, but we have seen these two get closer to each other, and care for each other. And then again, there's only so much getting close to the Man of Steel before one (in this case, Lois,) finds out his secret! We saw Clark and Lois getting close and relying on each other when they were partners, and of course as the saying goes, Duty Calls! No matter what Clark's and Lois' feelings are for each other, they still have to go to work, thus presenting even more ways for Clark and Lois to force each other to admit their feelings.
