The Perfect Day!

The sun was peeking in through the curtains now. Clark rolled over in bed and saw his beautiful wife of ten long and amazing years lying next to him! He stayed in bed just staring at her for about 15 more minutes. She then began to stir a bit. She rolled over and was facing Clark now.

“Good morning beautiful.” Clark said.

She replied with a, “Good morning Handsome.”

Clark leaned in and kissed Lana on her soft and tender lips. “You know, I was thinking Lana, we should do something special today.” Clark grinned.

“And what did you have in mind, love?”

“Well…” Clark began to recall, “ Many, many years back when that comet hit the sun and caused one of the biggest solar flares ever…”

“Um, yea I think that I remember that.” Lana says.

“Well, that affected my powers and I accidentally ran all the way to Lake Tahoe, I tried to head back home, but I only got as far as Colorado Springs when my speed gave out again. Well, I was too worried about how to get home to really appreciate it at the time. But when my speed gave out I found myself at this beautiful little spring. It had a small waterfall and was surrounded by the most beautiful trees. I think we should go there today! It will be an adventure. A long overdue trip for us!” Clark explained.

“I think that is a wonder…” Lana was cut off by the small boy that entered the room with his blankie in hand and thumb in his mouth.

“Mommy!” He said as he crawled into bed between Clark and Lana.

“Hey sweetie.” Lana said to the three year old little boy.

“Hey Lewie! How are you doing this morning?” Clark asked ruffling the brown curly locks on the boy’s head.

“Fine, daddy. I’m hungry!” Lewie answered softly.

“Ok sport, let’s go make some breakfast and gather up the others.” Clark said to his son.

“Ok! Let’s go.” Lewie said excited to make breakfast with his dad.

Clark leaned over and kissed Lana on the cheek. He then stood up and took his son by the hand and walked him out of the room and down the hall, where they stopped. Lewie knocked on the door, and a small little girl’s voice was heard through the door.

“Come in!” she said excitedly.

“Hey Marie!” Lewie said to his four year old sister.

“Daddy!” she hollered. “Is it time for breakfast?”

“Almost cupcake, we are all going to make it together today!” Clark told her.

The small child’s eyes lit up so bright. A smile tugged at the corners of Clark’s mouth!

“Ok guys, one more stop to make!” Clark told the children holding onto Lewie’s small hand in his right, and now Marie’s in his left. They walk together down the hall where they once again knock on the door. This time there is no answer.

“Hold on kids, I’ll be right back, you two wait here.” He told them.

Clark slowly opened the door and saw a mess of long brown hair knotted all up in her face. He walks over to the bed and shakes the 7 years olds shoulder a bit.

“Het sweetie, will you come and help us make breakfast?” he says.

Clark leans down and kisses her on the cheek brushing her hair out of her face. The two little ones stumble in and Clark turns to them and laughs when he sees the looks on their faces. They were the ‘I know we are not listening, but I hope that’s alright,’ looks. Clark smiled at them and they felt better and walked towards the bed.

“Wake up Emilara.” Lewie said crawling up into the bed right next to her.

Emilara’s eyes fluttered open and she smiled when she saw her baby brother with his nose touching hers and his little blue eyes going cross-eyed trying to look at her. She laughed and kissed him on the nose and rolled over to see her dad.

“Hey daddy!” she said reaching out her arms for a hug.

“Hey Em. Are you going to come downstairs with us to make breakfast? Your mother and I have a surprise to tell you while we eat!” he lets on about the surprise trip!

The three children’s eyes grow wide as saucers and their smiles spread all across their faces.

“A surprise daddy?” Marie questions.

“Yup, so lets go!” he says as the children all race out the door.

Clark goes back to get Lana and sees that she is dressed and ready to join them downstairs. He threads his arm through hers and they descend the stairs together. When the two of them reach the kitchen they see that the children have already gotten out the dishes and silverware which they placed on the table. There were eggs and bread on the counter, with the exception of the one egg that had rolled onto the floor and broken. Lewie was on his hands and knees with a paper towel desperately trying to wipe up the slimy mess. Clark walks over to him and takes the paper towel from him and thanks him for trying. He then hollers for Shelby who comes running in and immediately licks up the egg. Lewie and Marie giggle at this.

The three children superspeed around filling glasses with milk and orange juice and getting out the butter and jam for the toast. Emilara takes the bread and toasts it with her newly developing heat vision. As Clark watched he thought to himself, “I guess it’s true what they say…girls really do mature faster than boys.” He laughs and goes back to frying the eggs and the sausage. He then turns to the griddle to flip the pancakes. One by one he flips them onto plates and lets the children decorate them with berries and whipped cream. They make faces and hearts and Lana smiles as thy do this. She decides to join in, and spells out each of the child’s names on a pancake with small berries. She hands them to the children who are beyond delighted! Clark’s finishes everything up and brings the plates of food to the table and sits down! They all start piling food on their plates and boy can those Kent kids eat…just like their dad. Burning all their energy superspeeding around and filling up with piling heaps of food!

Clark leaned over and whispered in Lana’s ear, “We should tell them about the trip now!”

Lana smiled and nodded her head to him.

“Ok, kids…” he begins, “We are going to take a family trip today. To a really amazing spot! It should be really fun! I need you all to head upstairs after breakfast and put your swimming suits and a towel in a bag.” He finished.

“Swimming suits?” The three kids excitedly questioned in unison.

“Where are we going dad?” Emilara asked.

“It’s a surprise kiddo!” Clark answered with a wink.

The three children zipped off to their rooms before Lana could blink. “Man, those kids are getting faster all the time my Superman!” Lana says and leans over and kisses Clark on the cheek.

“Oh that reminds me, I have to make a quick phone call!” he says flipping his phone open. *ring ring*

“Hey Clark What’s up?” the voice on the other line answers.

“Hey Ollie can you do me a favor please. The family and I are going to take a short trip today, would you and Dinah please patrol metropolis for me?” Clark asks.

“Sure thing Kent, anything for the man of steel. And of course the super duo of The Green Arrow and The Black Canary are always ready for action!” Ollie says.

“Thanks so much man. I owe you one!” Clark says and clicks the phone shut.

He then turns back to Lana and says, “Ok, babe, let’s go pack our stuff!” Clark says.

“I have an idea Clark, you go start packing the stuff that we will need and I will pack us a marvelous picnic lunch!” Lana suggests.

“That’s a great idea Lana!” he leans down and kisses her with a little more passion then when the children were present.

Lana spends the next 15 minutes or so making sandwiches and filling little Ziploc bags with chips and grapes. She places everything into her cute little picnic basket along with a blanket and some drinks.

Upstairs Clark has packed a few things into a back pack and goes to check on the children’s progress. He reaches Lewie’s room and sees that the three small children were huddled in a little pow wow of sorts. Clark turned on his superhearing for a second and heard that they were whispering about ideas of where they might be headed. Clark smiled at this. He then knocked on the door and said, “Kids are you all packed?”

“Yes, Daddy!” they all answered together.

“Ok then, let’s roll.” Clark says.

The family heads out to the front yard where they meet Chloe, whom Clark had contacted earlier. He greeted her with a hug, and thanked her for her help. Clark wrapped one arm around Lana and one around the youngest, Lewie. He bent down slightly and thrusted upward into the sky. He had Lana and Lewie flown to the destination spot in a mere 3 minutes. He then flew back to get Emilara and Marie, whom Chloe was dutifully keeping an eye on. Clark landed back in the front yard and gave Chloe a small kiss on the cheek, thanking her again. He now wrapped one arm around each of his daughters and shot into the sky to meet the rest of the family at the waterhole. When Clark landed, he saw that Lana was looking around amazed.

“Clark it is SO beautiful!” she said.

“It is darling, but not as beautiful as you are!” he said.

“Nice line bucko, that may pay off later tonight.” She teased him.

He gave her a big grin and kissed her on the cheek.

The children were wide eyed and rifling through their bags for their suits. Lana held up a towel so that each child could individually get changed behind it! Clark and Lana had placed their suits on under their clothes back at home. All three children knew how to swim…and well…they are half-Kryptonian for goodness sakes. Clark had taught them all how to swim at Crater Lake though. So he told the kids to run along and play. The three kids holding hands ran to the edge and jumped in together. Clark and Lana were sitting close by keeping an eye on them.

Lana removes the blanket from the picnic basket and places it on the ground for Clark and her to sit on. Clark sits down and Lana sits in-between his legs and rests her head on his shoulder. He wraps his loving arms around her and he steals a glance at the water to make sure that the children were busy and safe. Once he saw that they were, he leaned his face towards hers and stole a kiss. As he was ready to pull away she reached her hand up behind his head and pulled him back in. she began to kiss him intensely. Clark’s lips tingled with passion. He returned her kiss and she accepted that return. They were engulfed in each others love for a few minutes when they heard the children approaching them and broke free of their passion.

“Mommy, we’re hungry.” Marie said.

Lewie added, “Yea can we eat now?”

“Sure.” Lana laughed. She began to unwrap the sandwiches and pass out the baggies of chips and grapes. She handed each child a juice pouch as well. Within a few minutes the kids had scarfed down all of their food and were ready to play again.

“Will you come play with us this time daddy?” Em asked.

Clark glanced at Lana and she knew what he really wanted to do.

“Clark go ahead and play with the kids.” She told him.

Clark sighed under his breath and kissed Lana on the cheek! “Ok kids let’s go!”He said, now excited to jump into the water and play with his children.

Clark would fly up a bit above the water with a child on his shoulders; he would then let them jump off! They loved it. Emilara would even do flips into the water. Sometimes he would swoop down and catch them by surprise by catching them before they hit the water. They took turns jumping off their daddy’s shoulders for hours. Meanwhile, Lana lay out in the sun, trying to get a bit of a tan.

“Kids, follow me.” Clark said.

The kids swam behind him as they approached the small waterfall. He climbed out of the water and his children followed. They walked into the waterfall and felt the water wash down on them.

“This is so cool dad!” Lewie said.

“It really is!” Marie agreed.

Clark said, “Watch this.” And he disappeared out of sight behind the waterfall.

“Where’d he go?”Lewie asked.

“Let’s follow him.” Suggested Emilara.

When they walked through the waterfall they realized that on the other side, behind the waterfall, was a small cave! It was cozy and dark, so Clark started a small fire in it with some brush and his heat vision.

“Hey Emilara, go get your mother please.” Clark said.

Em headed out through the waterfall and back to the place of the picnic.

“Come on mom, dad wants you to see this! It is really cool!” she tells her mom taking her by the hand.

The two jumped in the water and swam over to the waterfall where Emilara led her mother through it to the cave. Lana’s eyes grew wide as she saw her family in this special hideaway sitting around a fire.

“This is amazing Clark!” she manages to get out.

Clark reaches into his bag and pulls out a bag of jumbo marshmallows and five skewers. He passed them around and they all roasted marshmallows in their secret hideaway. Lana passed out graham cracker and chocolate pieces and the children smushed the hot marshmallows in between them and enjoyed their s’mores.

“You know guys, this can be our special place. We will come back and visit whenever we want ok?” he said.

“Definitely!” Emilara said.

They all agreed!

After spending awhile longer in the cave laughing and talking, the children were ready to swim it a bit more before it was time to leave. Daylight was quickly fading now and Clark told the children they had 15 minutes left to play.

“Awe.” Whined Lewie, “Are you sure we have to go that soon?”

Clark chuckled a bit, “Yes, it’s getting dark and you kids need to get home and get ready for bed. Like I said. We can always come back here whenever we want.”

Lana leaned over and whispered into Clark’s ear, “How about later tonight?”

Clark grinned but it quickly faded when he saw the children looking at him with wonder in their little eyes.

“Alright daddy,” The children said and ran off to play for the last few moments of their trip.

When it was time to go Clark dialed Chloe again and had her waiting at the house. With all the help she’s gotten from him over the years, she was always glad to help out.

Lana wrapped the children in towels to dry off, and then held the towel up while they changed back into their clothes.

Clark picked up Emilara and Marie, and thrust upward into the air. They reached the Kent farm and Chloe was there waiting with Shelby for their return. He placed the two children on the ground and told them to go in the house and get their showers taken and to get ready for bed.

“You two behave for Aunt Chloe, you hear.” Clark said.

“Yes, daddy, we will.” Shouted Marie as Clark shot into the sky.

He then lifted Lana and Lewie, and all of their belongings, and headed back home.

When they reached the farm Lewie ran inside to get ready for bed as well, and Clark pulled Chloe aside to ask her something.

“Hey Chloe, do you think you could watch the kids for a couple of hours? Clark asked with a mischievous grin on his face.

“Yea, yea Clark, you two go off and have fun. It’s not like I have a life of my own or anything!” she winked.

“Great! Thanks Chloe.” He said and then shouted to the kids, “You behave yourselves and listen to Aunt Chloe. Your mom and I will be back soon!”

“Only a couple of hours though Clark! I have to be getting home to Jimmy and Kelly. She likes it when I put her to bed, after her daddy reads her a story. She’s only five you know!” Chloe told him.

“Yea, I know Chloe. Thanks a million! We’ll be back in two hours sharp!” Clark said.

Clark then lifted Lana into his arms and took off once again.

“Wow, I wish I could do that.” Chloe said to herself, still amazed.

Clark gently placed Lana on the ground near the spring and said, “So what do you say we have some fun?” He winked at her.

“Fun huh? What did you have in mind Superman?” Lana giggled.

“Well I was thinking maybe we could take a swim.” He said as he slipped his shirt off.

“Oh yea?” she replied sliding her shirt over her head as well.

“Yea.” He said removing the last of his clothing and turning towards the water.

He jumped in and made a huge splash which soaked Lana’s remaining clothes. She peeled them off of her body and followed Clark’s path into the water.

“You know Lana; in high school I had a dream like this once. It just didn’t end quite like this reality will.” He smiled.

Lana smiled back and Clark leaned into kiss her. There was nothing between them now, not even the water. Lana pulled him as close to her a possible and continued kissing him. After awhile they swam over to the shore where Clark gently lifted her out of the water. He laid the blanket on the ground, and carefully placed Lana atop it. He laid down beside her, and scooted as close as he could. She rolled over to face him and he kissed her passionately. Then they made love under the stars with only the sounds of the crickets being heard.

“I love you so much Lana,” Clark said as he rolled on his back but turned his face towards her.

“I love you to Clark,” she said, rolling onto her side to face him.

Clark leaned his head in toward her and gave her a small soft kiss on the tip of her nose which crinkled up at the touch of his lips as she giggled. As he pulled his lips away she reached behind his head with her hand and pulled him back in. She kissed him long and passionately and he returned the kiss with all of the love in his body. Lana then rolled on to her back as well and Clark slid his arm behind her head and pulled it against his chest. The two lie there in silence for a few moments until Clark begins to speak.

“This really was the perfect day my love.” He said and kissed Lana on the top of her head.

“It really was.” She responded, tilting her chin slightly upwards to smile at him.

He smiled back and then continued staring at her while she watched the stars in the night sky and snuggled in closer to him.
