I saw bits and pieces while I was watching WWE No Way Out....and as a big Spurs fan, it felt like much of the weekend was devoted to the Silver and Black
George Gervin, Larry Nance, and Artis Gilmore judged the Slam Dunk Contest
Greg Popovich coached the West along with P.J. Carlisimo and the Spurs trainer.
Tim Duncan and Manu Ginobili were on the team
David Robinson introduced the Air Force Academy choir.

So the basketball season is in full flow.
Detroit and San Antonio are playing pretty well.
So I think it would be a good time to talk some basketball.
Whats your fav team?
Whats your fav player?
Who do you think will win it this year?
My Fav team is the Pheonix Suns.
My fav player is Lebron James.
I think Detroit are gonna win it this year especially if they continue playing as well as they are.

Yea cuz
Yea cuz Detroit has beaten San Antonio twice this season.
I love, love, LOVE b-ball.
Favorite team: Toronto Raptors (and yes, I know they're not doing well this season, but here's the scary thing, they're 3.5 games out of a playoff spot)
Favorite Player: Chris Bosh, D-Wade, Garnett
And I really think that in a seven game series, Detroit will beat anyone.

Yea the Raptors were really sucking earlier in the season.
It was really pathetic.
They have improved as of late though.

New Yor Knicks (yes, I am admitting it)
Shaquille O'Neal
It will be a rematch of the Pistons vs. the Spurs, and the Pistons will win this time.
I miss my Knicks from back when they were mean "bullies" back in the '90s. Now they are just a bunch of yellow-bellied punks.

I've always liked college basketball more than pro, but I do root for the Detroit Pistons as the old "home town" team.
Now this year is a little different since the Hornets are playing their games in OKC after being displaced by hurricane Katrina. I've been keeping up with them, and they are doing much better this year in their adopted city. I meant to get down to the Ford Center and watch them play Detroit last week but was on vacation. :\
Maybe I can catch the San Antonio game on the 25th.

I went to my first NBA game Wednesday - Hornets vs. the Utah Jazz. Unfortuanately the Hornets lost at home - leading scorer West didn't play (new baby problems?), Vroman fell on a dunk and broke his wrist, Mason fell and hurt his tail bone, and Paul was recovering from numerous injuries but did play some. I'm still hopeful that they'll remain in the running for a Western playoff spot.
Yeah, the Hornets are the feel-good story of the year. It'd be cool if they could make the playoffs. I love Chris Paul.

Hmm... that's tough. Nash has got to be a candidate again this year. Elton Brand, Lebron, Chauncey Billups and even Kobe. That's tough.

Right. Sometimes, I rather watch paint dry especially when they play with teams like Memphis, New York, Houston, or New Jersey and when they end up with only 60 points in a game.

06-04-2006, 05:24 AM
Dallas in 6. They have the high power offense to combat the Heat, and a pretty solid bench. They are a team that has been waiting for this for atleast 10 years it seems. Going back to Shaq on the Lakers. It seemed like dallas couldn't handel a 7 game series, but back in oct or nov Dallas beat the hell out of the Pistons ( I'm from Detroit it was tough to see the pistons go but lets face it they just didnt want it as bad as the heat) I said Dallas would give us (detroit) a lot of problems if we got back to the finals against them. The biggest matchup problem in basketball is not Shaq but (sp) Nowitski. Who are the heat gonna put on him? Can't be Shaq too slow, Wade too small. and that leaves who? Walker , Posey, Morning? If the heat can find the answere to that then they have a good chance. If not it's gonna be Dallas at home in 6
luthorsmentor
06-04-2006, 10:03 AM
gotta go with dallas. their role players aren't as selfish as miami's and realize that they are actually role players. the guys on miami still think that they are the stars they used to be when they are not.
smallvillerocks45
06-05-2006, 10:34 PM
Out of bitterness, I was saying Miami, but realistically I can really see Dallas winning it. They are a good team. Truthfully, I haven't seen Miami play all season, I've just seen highlights, so my word may not hold much weight. (Of course, Miami will have many more rested legs than the Suns did IMO...but we'll see what happens...Either way, the finals should be exciting.)
----Addition---
So far it's 2-0 Dallas... very interesting...
---06/16/06 add in---
Now, it's 2-2 dead even....

As much as I love seeing the Chicago Bulls in the playoffs I'm going to have to pick the San Antonio Spurs. They're just too damn good. Their half court game is dare I say tops in the league. They have the most underrated big man in the game in Tim " Timmmayyyy" Duncan and least of all the most prolific big game shot maker of them all in Big shot Bob- Robert Horry. Never leave that guy open when the clocks ticking down, the five rings on his fingers explains it all.

i'm originally from buffalo. they have no nba, i didn't watch the nhl till detroit went back to back in the 90's, and they have no mlb.
the bills were all we had, so i still stick with them, thick and thin...)
The pistons are focused, in part, because they remember letting cleveland take them to 7 last year, and how that made them tired against the heat for no reason...
but if you remember, they did this exact same thing to cleveland last year, before letting cleveland blow them out in cleveland in games 3 and 4...and the bulls are decent, so don't punch your tickets to the next round just yet.

i don't think so. they still don't have a team that could go for the long haul...if san antonio doesn't have a really, REALLY OOC meltdown last night, this series is already over. i'm still picking the spurs and pistons for the finals, with detroit taking that in 7.
smallvillerocks45

The only reason San Antonio had a meltdown last night is because the Suns have the potential to go the long haul, IMO....but hey, they're my home team, I WANT them to win, yet I don't yet see why they can't.

lol well I like Marc, and Rudy, but Pau will always be my favourite Spaniard.
BTW, I love the Suns too. The 2004-07 Suns were so fun to watch! It’s sad that they didn’t win a ring. People say that you can’t win a ring with D’Antoni style, but I think it’s just a myth. They didn’t win because of bad luck, not because of the system. In 2005 they had JJ injury, in 2006 they made WCF without Amare and in 2007 they were shamefully robbed.
I hope the Lakers win the title or maybe the Cavs somehow pull off a miracle and beat Boston in the ECF and get the Finals. I just hate all the hype that surrounds Boston. Not to take anything away from them, they're definitely a very talented and deep team.

Yeah, I think Steph will actually help the Celts and stop being such a weirdo. KG will keep him in line.

Rockets fan here. I'm glad there is an NBA thread! I love to talk to my brothers about the NBA.
The Rox just lost to the Spurs on our court, again. The sad thing is, half the crowd is from San Antonio, they take the three hour drive to come to the games and cheer their team on, so we never have home court advantage against the Spurs. And they're a really good home team so it's so tough to beat them in San Antonio.
But hey, we made it to third place without She-Mac. So I am happy. Hopefully we get past the first round without him, just so he can feel worse about being so lazy.

04-09-2009, 09:18 PM
Wow, no one comments...
Ok so the Rockets are battling it out against the worst team in the league right now. We are on the road so the Rockets NEED to win. If you can't beat the worst team on their home court, you can't beat a playoff team on their home court. And in the playoffs, you need to win on the road.
Update on my last post, the post right up there above this one, the Rox and Spurs are now tied for first in our division. If we win tonight we will take the lead and be all along in first place for the first time in over ten years. I know that sounds bad, but the Spurs have been reigning the division this entire time. And the Spurs have been arguably one of the leagues top two teams over that span.
I'd also like to add that since that previous post of mine, the Rockets have beaten the Spurs on THEIR home court :D

It's funny, T-Mac gets injured and it seems that finally the Rockets will be capable to get out of the first round.
I don't see any real threat for LA in the West. The Spurs could have been one with a healthy Ginobili, but without him they are done. I think Houston has the best chance against them, having great defensive players like Battier and Artest to stop Kobe, but is a slim one.
unfocused
04-10-2009, 12:28 PM
Well, Battier nor Artest can stop Kobe from scoring his average, but they do make it hard for him, which is all we can ask and expect.

04-16-2009, 01:35 AM
Rockets went from potentially making it to second place in the west with homecourt advantage through the first and second rounds... all the way down to fifth in the west with no homecourt advantage at all...
I want to cry, I'm so pissed. Artest and Scola tanked and lost the game for us. everyone else played consistently. But this was the most important game of the season for the Rox, EVERYONE needed to play well.

Very intriguing and interesting match-ups in the West. It’s curious because the 3 best teams right now (imo) have the #1, #4 and #5 seeds. If Houston or Portland had the #3 seed, I think they would have made the WCF, but now they are probably going to lose against LA in Conference Semis.
My predictions: Lakers in 5, Nuggets in 7, Mavs in 6 and Blazers in 7.
BTW, KG could miss entire postseason... It seems Cavs road to the final is going to be easy.
unfocused
04-16-2009, 06:16 PM
Yeah, but I thought it would be easy for the Cavs even before Garnett went out. The Lakers have it pretty easy to, this isn't going to be an excited or unpredictable playoffs, lol. Hopefully, the competitive West will make it worth watching. With four Southwest division teams making up half the conference matchups, at least I'll have plenty to keep me busy.
My predictions: Lakers in 4, Nuggets in 7, Spurs in 7, Rockets in 7.
Gotta believe in my Rox. Looks like the Cavs and Lakers game is going to be a pretty anticipated game, and a very good one to. Also, Lebron for MVP?

The KG nws isnt good to hear since im a Boston fan. But i think the C's can still beat the Cavs. it's going to be tough but it can be done. We just need to steal at least one win in Cleveland.

I wish it was a sweep. The magic shot 75% in the first half and 62.5% for the game and they only won by 4 points! We also had a chance of winning that game too but we really crumbled in crunch time.
Orlando played the best possible game they could have and they won't be shooting that great anymore. Lakers end this in 6

Boston Celtics? Anyone??I like Tony Allen, but other than that I'm generally not a fan of coast teams what with being a Midwest guy. Though I did live in Maine for a while, that's probably considered Boston territory.
How about that? Hollinger over at ESPN has the Thunder rated above the Celtics in his Power Ratings.
It is cool that the local team is doing well this year. 29-21 is really good for them considering how young the team is. ;)
Also cool is that if I want to go to a game I just have to jump in the car and drive the 10-15 minutes downtown. Well, a ticket might help. ;)

You got to be kidding me!!!! Son of a b----!! What a shame that the Knicks' last 3 pointer against the Celtics didn't count. This pisses me off how we were winning the game for so long, gave up the lead, tied it & just barely lost. I'm glad we weren't blown out like our old teams, but what a waste of having the streak end. I wanted to extend it by beating Boston & especially Miami. We better beat Miami. I want that dirtbag ego maniac Lebron along with his boys Wade & Bosh to leave MSG in shame unlike other years.
Los tres amigos gave a lesson to the Lakers at L.A!

After Tony Parker team this week, Orlando beats celtics

do you guys think the lakers will threepeat? I absolutely despise the lakers but was the first person to say that they were the favorites the last couple of years even this year until now. I am not so sure anymore. It maybe because of what kobe said--they're too complacent. Now regular season doesn't really mean squat as it hass been proven over and over. but it feels as if they are missing something this year. I guess it's not fair to judge them without bynum but there is also much more competition. celtics are better than ever, imo, because KG is playing like he's 20 something due to his knee surgery, also they got more depth. Miami is on a roll, the magic made a huge trade that made them even better, Spurs are the spurs of old, etc.

im personally pullin for the boston celtics to win the title i think they have a great oppurtunity with peirce, allen, and rondo they cant be stopped outside the perimeter.

Rudy fernandez from Dallas he signed for real madrid
-kobe Bryant could join kinder Bologne in the next few days.

until january, it would be perfect
still no news about a contract for Kobe at Bologne
Marc and pau Gasol are training with barça
and LBJ let a strange tweet about NFL....
For spurs fans, Tony spoke with batum this monday, he told him he should have been drafted by spurs if blazers didn't take him before ( pop gave Tony the list of spurs choices in that draft and batum was spurs choice number 1 )
he told him he is waiting for him now when he'll be free agent and batum didn't answer.
Ian mahinmi from Dallas signs at Le Havre during the lock out
he is the fourth player to come in france the third in 1 division
after Tony Parker (Asvel)
Nico batum (sluc)
diaw in 2nd division at Bordeaux
I'll post here the result of Tony Parker tonight
since he arrived at Lyon last week, all the medias are on fire with french basketball
for the first time in years, basketball is on the front page!
Tonight it's lyon-villeurbanne against Paris .
Tony Parker was on fire tonight!!
21 points 6 assists for a win of asvel 75/73
he did the difference when the team was loosing at-7 against villeurbanne 10 points in 3 minutes, and he prouved he was the boss!!
Turiaf from new york knicks could join Lyon-villeurbanne too!!!!!!
He spoke with tony last week, and from what i heard here it's deal done!!!
Tonight lyon-villeurbanne recieve gravelines with Tony but without turiaf
