There was good news to be found elsewhere on the Web Sunday though. Dollhouse soared up the iTunes charts and currently sits as the second most downloaded TV show behind the Sci-Fi channel’s Battlestar Galactica. It was a meteoric rise for the premiere episode of Dollhouse, as it shot up from the 19th most downloaded show all the way up to second place in less than a day.

That's a decent number they pulled in. I still say the show would be more successful if it was on the CW.

And wow @ Flashpoint! Nice to see Amy Jo Johnson in a high rated show.

Last Night: In week three news, Fox drama Doll House lost more steam, dipping to 4.13 million viewers (#4) and a 1.6/ 5 among adults 18-49 (#3) a 9 p.m. Take a look at the three-week track for Dollhouse (with episodes one and two based on the final nationals):

Dollhouse (Fox) – Friday 9 p.m.
2/13/09 – Viewers: 4.76 million; A18-49: 2.0/ 6
2/20/09 – Viewers: 4.25 million; A18-49: 1.7/ 5
2/27/09 – Viewers: 4.13 million; A18-49: 1.6/ 5

As predicted, the target audience for Dollhouse is probably out on Friday ringing in the new weekend. Earlier in the evening on Fox was Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles at an even worse 3.42 million viewers (#4) and a 1.2/ 4 (#4) in the demo at 8 p.m. Chances of another season of Sarah Connor are, no doubt, nil.

Finals will go up, hopefully:/

I think that dollhouse is doing pretty well, considering it is on Friday, and has a kind of wierd theme for some people. I think that it is just too tough for people to watch it on Fridays. If it had started on a different day, maybe the ratings would be better. Plus, if you look on places like Hulu, Dollhouse is up among the top watched recent episodes/ recently added, whatever you call it. It seems like people do make time to watch the show, but the time slot is just too bad for it to find a solid grounding. I know I couldn't watch the first two episodes when they first aired because I'm always busy on Fridays, but I watched them on Hulu.

Fox's "Dollhouse" premiered modest.

Then went lower.

And lower.

But what about all those Joss Whedon fans who actually have lives and aren't staying home to watch TV on Friday nights?

Yes, there are some. Lots, in fact.

According to just-released Live+7 DVR data, the "Dollhouse" premiere episode's rating increased 30% once time-shifted viewing from later in the week was added in. "Dollhouse" went from a 2.0 adult demo number to a 2.6.

"Dollhouse" lead-in "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" gained even more -- 36%.

By comparison, Friday's most-popular show "Ghost Whisperer" gained 21%, "Flashpoint" climbed 11% and "Numbers" was up 14%.

The "Terminator" and "Dollhouse" gains are considered very high increases for time-shifted viewing, even for a Friday night.

UPDATE: For the week, "Terminator" was the biggest gainer, followed by "90210," "Scrubs," "Dollhouse," "Priviledged" and "Life." (Adjusted so they're all rounded to the same point). Here's the list:

TERMINATOR 1.4 adult demo rating to a 1.9 = 36% increase
90210 1.2 to 1.6 = 33%
SCRUBS 2.0 to 2.6 = 30%
DOLLHOUSE 2.0 to 2.6 = 30%
PRIVILEGED 0.7 to 0.9 = 29%
LIFE 1.4 to 1.8 = 29%
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS 1.2 to 1.5 = 25%
LOST 4.4 to 5.5 = 25%

And the Live+7 for the Premiere in viewers is 5,799.= 5.80 mil. & demo 2.6

Compare the Final Live rating
2/13/09 – Viewers: 4.76 million; A18-49: 2.0/ 6

More than a 1 million viewer gain, and that demo gain is great.:)

DVR numbers

Also, for those wondering: Week two of DVR data showed both "Dollhouse" and "Terminator" improved 29% from their original airings. For "Dollhouse," that roughly matches the premiere episode's DVR gain while for "Terminator," its slipping a bit compared to the show's midseason debut. In either case those are some strong numbers.

I hope the ratings will stay steady for this show to Warrant another season. The should really think about moving it. I think it would do amazing on another night! I hear The Sarah Whatever Chronicles are good too. If it gets picked up I think I am gonna buy season one. I don't want to invest in a season one dvd and the show not make it to a season three.

Dollhouse is picking up some steam :)

Fox continues to struggle with its combination of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Viewers: #4, 3.93 million; A18-49: #2t, 1.4/ 5) and the recently introduced Dollhouse, which picked up some steam at 4.42 million viewers (#4) and a 1.5/ 5 in the demo (#3t). But that is still a losing performance. Coming up on April 17 in the Friday 8 p.m. hour: the return of Prison Break.

DVR Ratings for 1x06 "Man on the street"

…with the exception of Chuck, the overall Live+7 rating with 18-49 year olds continued declines from prior weeks. This data is for the March 6, 2009 episodes of Dollhouse and Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles and the March 2, 2009 airing of Chuck. The increases by DVR for TSCC are very impressive on a percentage basis, but unfortunately the absolute numbers (1.5 rating with 18-49s in TSCC’s case) matter much more.

Bill will post the the full DVR top twenty lists later, but here’s the 18-49 data for those three shows.

Fox was just the opposite of NBC -- fourth in total viewers and third among adults 18-49 -- with its line-up of Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles (Viewers: #4, 3.35 million; A18-49: #3, 1.3/ 5), which concludes the season (or series) next Friday and Dollhouse (Viewers: #4, 3.49 million; A18-49: #3, 1.4/ 5). Unfortunately, there is no way to put a positive spin on the Dollhouse numbers this week.

Fox Leaning Toward 'Dollhouse' Renewal
But news not so good for 'Sarah Connor'

By MICHAEL HINMAN
Apr-05-2009
Source: Airlock Alpha

The Fox network is just a step away from shaking up its Friday lineup for the 2009-10 season, canning one show and considering a move to a new night for a second.

Let's hit the good news first. Airlock Alpha has learned that Fox is looking to give its struggling "Dollhouse" a second season, to see if it can grow some legs on a new night. Fox had originally intended "Dollhouse" to air Mondays with "24," but Fox instead decided to move "House" to that spot to replace "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles," and to create sort of a genre theme night on Fridays.

The audience for "Dollhouse" are not exactly where Fox had hoped they would be, however, critical reaction to later episodes following its February premiere has grown more positive toward the series as it has had the chance to flesh itself out. Showrunner Joss Whedon had said ahead of its premiere that he had gone back to retool certain aspects of the show, including using a new premiere episode than what was originally planned, eventually canning what would have been the premiere.

The move seems to be an easy one for Fox. While the audience hasn't been as large as expected, it has instead remained stable. It's not a number that Fox uses, but "Dollhouse" carries a BlipNetwork Stability Index Rating of 92.0, better than every other network genre show currently on television outside of "Reaper" on The CW, which has a 94.7. A Stability Index Rating is the comparison of the show's highest overnight rating and its average overnight rating to see how much of its overall audience a show has retained.

Other factors in favor of the show continuing is that it's not as expensive as other Fox shows. Much of its upfront costs, including the construction of the elaborate set that is the dollhouse itself, were covered by funds that normally would've paid for a pilot (no pilot was made for "Dollhouse"). Also, while Whedon's Mutant Enemy Productions and star Eliza Dushku's Boston Diva Productions are tied to the series, 20th Century Fox Television is still the primary production company involved, which means its licensing fee is not as steep as it would be if the show was produced by another studio.

That, along with ratings, is one of the aspects killing "Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles." That show is set to end its second season April 10 after a 22-episode run, but its sophomore season has been nothing but a complete struggle.

After a so-so debut on Mondays and never finding its grip after that with audiences, Fox teetered on canceling the show until surprisingly deciding to give it a full-season pickup and moving it to Fridays as a lead-in to "Dollhouse." Rumors were that Warner Bros. Television, which produces the show, slashed its licensing fee to prompt a pickup as a way to help it promote its upcoming "Terminator: Salvation," which premieres May 21.

Once "Salvation" premieres, it seems Warner Bros. will have little use to keep "Sarah Connor" on the air, and likely will not continue to provide a licensing fee discount for a third season. That almost assuredly will allow Fox to make the move it normally would've done before New Year's, and that's cancel the show.

Last year, "Sarah Connor" had the worst Stability Index Rating of all network genre shows, mostly from its inflated series premiere following the National Football League playoffs. This year, it's Stability Index Rating is stronger, but out of 14 network genre show tracked by Airlock Alpha this season, "Sarah Connor" is ranked 13th. Only "Life On Mars" had a worse Stability Index Rating, mostly from its freefall following its move from Thursdays against "Eleventh Hour" to Wednesdays following "Lost."

Of course, none of this has been confirmed by Fox, so it should be treated as any rumor would, meaning information can change, or could even be wrong.

"Terminator: The Sarah Connor Chronicles" airs Fridays at 8 p.m. ET on Fox. "Dollhouse" airs Fridays at 9 p.m. ET on Fox.

God Fox are so STUPID with their television scheduling. You don't put shows like Dollhouse and Terminator on a Friday night when everyone who would watch them is out, and expect good results... I mean it's just illogical!

And you certainly don't START a series on a friday night... what did they think would happen? How could they possibly expect it to do well? It's like they deliberately did it so that the show would get low ratings and give them a good excuse to drop yet another Whedon show...

We got a 3.6m :(

A couple of articles indicating hope for renewal :)

I like the logic Eliza put forth. Since Epitaph 1 would have ended on a sort of 'finished' tone, and Omega leaves things more open, the fact that they chose not to air it may be a very good sign :)

http://scifiwire.com/2009/04/dollhouses-eliza-dushku-o.php

Also, info from Joss makes me very very happy :)

We also talked about next season, they called me specifically to say we've been hearing you sound a little despondent, being very clear about this, the show is not cancelled. The numbers have been soft, but the demographic is wonderful. DVR is great, they [FOX] are big fans of the show and they're waiting to see what happens, so now I've gone from a place that's sort of ehhhhhh, they don't even care, no one loves me, to a place of - God, I can't believe I'm saying this...hope.

We might get the chance to do the thing we're dying to do which is tell more of these stories with these crazy people because we have so many more yet to come. So basically It's about what happens in the next few weeks. We have a few more episodes coming up whether it's 12 or 13 and they are fierce, they are ridiculous I'm so proud of them. I know that we're gonna go out of this season with a bang and hopefully get to come back for # 2.

Tick tock tick tock. This show was cancelled last year and just doesnt know it yet. If FOX were serious about this show they would have changed the night and given it a proven lead in show. This is FOX throwing the drowning man an anchor. Thanks FOX. U only have to look at Fringe to see which show they want to succeed. To be honest they may be right. Fringe is a much better show than DH.

nicmar
10-06-2009, 03:56 AM
They are not doing Fringe any favors either, the ratings are down there as well Fox has a couple of show that pull good ratings no matter what House, Bones, 24 but they don't pair theese shows with new shows I hate to harp on it becasue there is a thread for this but the original plan fox had for Terminiator was to pair it with 24 two action shows one new one proven. The same was true for Dollhouse but fox put it on Friday. The only hope Dollhouse has is that fox really has written of Friday and are happy with whatever Dollhouse pulls because the know the Joss cult will buy the dvds and such

kernel_thai
10-07-2009, 12:40 AM
Bones is the lead in for Fringe. Last year Fringe got a whole lot of love from American Idol. Dollhouse has Brothers and Til Death

If Dollhouse fails its not because of a weak show in front of it. Viewers will find a good show. Fringes biggest concern is they choose to counter program it against Supernatural. I never got why networks love to do that. Why move Fringe off it night (Tuesday) just to stack it against a more established show in the same genre with the same demo?

Fringe, Dollhouse and T:SCC all suffer from the same failing; they ask there viewers to think about whats happening. To invest. If people wanted to think theyd be on the internet, not watching tv. :D

While lead-ins “Brothers” and “’Til Death” remain in the ratings toilet, “Dollhouse” rose 11% to match its season premiere in the Fox Friday Death Slot. “Dollhouse” also rose from fourth place to third in its timeslot thanks to falling numbers from ABC’s repeats
