Wasn't Lex's punishment to Lionel after he killed him, that he would erase Lionel from the world's memory, that no-one would even remember Lionel's name?

So why the hell is there a picture of Lionel outside the board of directors office at LuthorCorp.

i don't think he ever said he was going to MAKE it happen, but simply that it would happen because in the scale of things he was unimportant

it was also a bit of a nod to the mythos, because Lex will rise to such infamy, and lionel will be forgotten completely

It would have thrown suspicion on him to take down the pic when most companies keep a pic of their founder up forever.
