After the joy and sadness of Requiem, I got an idea and well here it is.
I don't own or have anything to do with Smallville, Superman or any of its character. This is a fan fiction. It's written for fun.
I Love You
Chapter 1
She’s Gone
I love you, Clark thought, as he was flying back to The Daily Planet Building, after saving sixty people who were trapped in a burning skyscraper. Once he finished the rescue, he used his freeze breath to blow out the flames. The men in their fire/rescue outfits all cheered and thanked the man of steel, for his assistance. The people of Metropolis could breathe easier, now that he was here.
I love you…Three simple words that mean so much for any individual to hear them from the one they love, but to Clark Kent they were words couldn’t soothe, instead they brought pain, anguish…Torment to his soul. These were the very words that the love of his life spoke to him, before she left for the last time. They were also the words that he replied with, in that weak and raspy voice after they kissed, for the last time.
Clark had always regretted and really never forgave himself for not being able to muster up enough strength to say them so she could hear him say it, but she was already gone by the time he recovered from the exposure to the Green K. she had absorbed.
It’s so hard to understand how things in life can change so quickly. You see everything was going so right for he and Lana, until Lex had given them the ultimatum for her to absorb the Kryptonite that was in that super bomb or he was going to blow up The Daily Planet Building and a good portion of Metropolis. They had no choice and now twelve years later he still recalls the word she spoke and remembers the pain. The pain wasn’t from the Green K. exposure, but from losing her forever. Life without Lana wasn’t living. It was just the routine of getting up and going through the daily ritual, a superhero should do. It was just like she said…They had to do this, they were driven to save people. But after each rescue, as soon as the people stop cheering, when he is alone, the smile faded and the pain and torment returned. Again, he is alone and would be forever.
It’s funny when you think about it, but love of your life. That’s what it means…That one person captures your heart and is the only one who has the key to get inside. His heart was taken captive at the age of five, the first time he saw her in her aunt’s flower shop. As the years went by, his love for her continued to grow, then it grew even more after he discovered why she left after she was released by Brainiac’s confinement and then why she went through, ‘The Prometheus Experiment.’ She had discovered what Lex was up to and she sacrificed everything to be the one to wear the suit to protect the man she loved. She had learned that he was going to use it to kill Clark. She couldn’t allow that to happen, so she left Smallville, trained so that she would be able to survive the process and became the one to wear the suit that could harm her love and she stood ready to protect him. How ironic, Prometheus, was the Titan, who stole fire from Zeus. Lana had stolen the suit from Lex. The man who thought of himself as a god.
Everything went well, until the last Luthor, filled with hate, jealousy and rage forced Lana to absorb Green K. rays. The process was irreversible, so they could no longer be together and rather than cause him more pain, by her being around, Lana finally left.
Her picture was there, by his bed. He kissed her goodnight each evening before turning over in that strong oak bed, they had once broken, on that fateful evening. He would hug that same pillow she had slept on. Each night he would cry her name before falling off to sleep.
Clark wondered where she was and what she was doing. In his training he learned that several Kryptonian scientists were coming close to finishing a process that could render any harmful substance powerless, but all of that research had been lost, when his home planet exploded. “Lana,” he said out loud, “Where are you?”
This super speedster had been all over the planet looking for her, but never found a trace of the woman of his dreams. He had no way of knowing that the members of the Legion had given her a teleportation ring. It took her to the thirty-first century. A place where she completed her training and where work on neutralizing the Kryptonite she absorbed was begun. The members of, The Legion,’ considered it to be a high honor to have them with her and were more than happy to help. Both they and Lana received an additional surprise when Lana began to show. Yes, the brief time she and Kal-El has been together was enough and she was pregnant. Eventually she delivered a boy and named him Kal-El, after his father.
After the rescue, when Superman returned to the Daily Planet Building, he returned to the top of the building. He very quickly dressed as Clark Kent and looked over to a special spot. The place where he and Lana kissed after she asked him to meet her on the rooftop. She had gone through the process and had super-speed and super strength. After thinking about that night, he said, “I will never forget you my love, never!”
Then he turned in the direction of the door to the rooftop. The door had opened and someone stepped out onto the roof. Then he heard her ask, “Smallville, where are you? Why do you always come up here?”
“To think Lois, to think.”
“Well, Earth to Clark. This is Lois, we have an assignment and Perry wants us on it yesterday. So get yourself together and let go Smallville, there is no time to lose.”
Lois had heard about Clark and Lana, how they reconciled again, had gotten together, for a time, but then for reasons unknown to anyone…Disappeared. No one had heard from her again. Clark was so distraught that he left for twelve years. “He won’t tell anyone about it, except that he was traveling around the globe, to get a better understanding of people and the meaning of life. Now he is back at The Planet and we are all happy that he is back. But no matter what he does, there is always an air of sadness around him. I have tried and will continue to try to get him to let go of his past. You see he doesn’t know it, but Lana is his past and I am his future.” She said with a smile on her face. Turning to go back inside the building, she said, “Hurry Clark, we have to go.”
After she had gone inside, he said, “Lois you are not my past, present or future. That place in my life belongs to another.” Then quietly, almost to himself he began to sing:
Sleepless hours and dreamless nights and far aways
Ooo ooo ooo, wishing you were here
Heaven knows and Lord it shows when I'm away
Ooo ooo ooo, wishing you were here
Same old show in a different town on another day
Ooo ooo ooo, wishing you were here
Even though you're far away, you're on my mind
Ooo ooo ooo, wishing you were here
And I'd like to change my life, and you know I would
Just to be with you tonight, baby, if I could
But I've got my job to do, and I do it well,
Change my life) So I guess that's how it is.
Ooo ooo ooo, wishing you were here
Ooo ooo ooo, wishing you were here
On the road it's a heavy load, but I'll be by
Ooo ooo ooo, wishing you were here
Pay the price, make a sacrifice, and still I'll try
Ooo ooo ooo, wishing you were here.
The three people watching from a distance took note and in the blink of an eye were gone.
I hope you like…If people do more to come.
