- they utterly and completely bastardized the Clois plotline. No one will be able to swallow it after Lana's sendoff in this episode
- Lex had a very subpar and unworthy death (he might come back, who knows?)
what's left to look forward to? doomsday? him flying? this "coming out" and dual identities?

Not really, other than turning him into Superman what else is there. The Clois relationship has officially been removed from the equation. So all they have to do is solve it and there home free.

I really don't like what they did with Lex, either. He's either still alive, which they'll have to bring him back with some lame "twist", or he's really dead, and had the worst send-off of any main character ever.

seriously i never have seen a show or writers tear down and destroy a relationship that they have been building since season 1 episode 1. i have nothing to look forward to. Clois sucks and will suck. it just doesnt make sense. you have two people be in love go through so much for 8 seasons then you break them up forever? and after you do all that you put him with someone else and say love her? oh now this is clarks real love? NO. its ridiculous. seriously smallville is going down the drain. whether you like clana or not you know clark and lois on smallville makes NO sense at all.. after everything that has happened. lois cant beat lana and the WRITERS made it that way for a reason. they basically told everyone with Requiem that clark and lana arent together because of a circumstance. its not like clark has stopped or will stop loving lana..even IF he does start to love lois or watever.. its NOT going to compare to Clana.

Its always around the last 5, 4 or 3 episodes of each season where it starts to get more interesting. Just because one bad episode shouldn't decide on the show's fate just yet. I'd still like to see Season 9 happen if it is decided.

Damn straight.
I have rolled my eyes through all the howls of indignation over the years. Freaks of the Week, witches, stones, exploding babies, vampires, X-Files ooze and Saw rip-offs. But many of the episodes that were bagged at the time have turned out to be classics (well maybe not Thirst and Ageless !! :)).
As always I prefer to watch and rewatch an episode to work out exactly the writers motives and ideas. The knee-jerk hysteria of the past couple of weeks has been quite remarkable. Once everyone settles down and we get a few universally-loved episodes (like some of the first half of S8) then we'll all be salivating for S9, and begging TW to sign. :D

This wasn't just "one bad episode". In this episode, they completely devalued the mythos of Clois and left the Clana relationship unresolved... forever.

Smallville forever...thankfully not forever with what really matters as far as the Superman legend/mythos goes. There is closure with the real story, it just wont be on this show unfortunately.

I want it SOOO much! I think if they will end the show with this Clana crap, it would be the stupiest thing any show ever done... it would be bad ended because all characters, not only Clark, who became a fool, but all of them are with incomplete storylines... Chloe, Oliver, Davis, even Jimmy now...I want season 9, because I want this show to have happy, good, complete ending... it would be fair for the fans)))

3. Get Rutger Hauer or Patrick Bergin back as Morgan Edge so they could have Intergang

I think I want it more now. They didn't mess up the Clois possibility at all. Clark thinks that now, he's emotional. He'll eventually realize who he loves more. Lana was his first crush, it happens. So yes, I would love another season that can show more in depth Clark getting over Lana and taking up his destiny. It could actually end up being one of the best seasons, if given the chance.

After watching this episode I don't know if I want it. I imagine Lana coming back, cured or covered with lead paint and lecturing Clark on what is wrong and right and my hopes for a good show are gone.
I really expected something different from this episode. I was really dissappointed because I was expecting Clark to see lana for who she truly is, but instead the writers turned Lana into what Clark always imagined her to be. I was expcting her taking responsibility for what she did, learn from her mistakes and chose a more reasonable path and both parting as friends, not as lovers that are separated by circumstances beyond their control. I thought they took the easy route (not that I want them together) choosing to be apart because they don't want to find a way to be together.
Also, with this chapter they showed us that you can do all the wrong in the world, rob, kidnap, torture, let people die, but if you change your mind several months later and you wear a stolen supersuit and use it to save the world, they you can be forgiven and never pay for your crimes. You can tell pshycho killers that had just kicked a man's skull open that they can amazing people if they let their anger go.
Right now I'm depressed with SV. The morality of this show is getting too ambiguous, and I'm not talking about superpowered sex scenes (can't they just make love?) but about how they take loyalty, murder and commitment so lightly.

Heck yes I want a season 9. I want a season 9, 10, 11, 12... LOL! As annoyed as I am with the last two episodes, most likely KK is never coming back as she has indicated over and over, so all the Lana drama really is a moot point to me.
Besides, I am coming to love the interaction and teasing between Clark and Lois and fully expect the writers to be pushing their relationship. I am curious how they will evolve their relationship. More importantly based on the spoilers Clark moves on pretty quickly, dispite what happened in Requiem. I'm sure when Clark and Lois do finally start getting pushed harder, all the talk about "Clois is over" will stop happening.

We'll see what the last episodes of season 8 hold, but for me, I think Smallville season 9 may turn out to be too much. On the other hand, the jump in character arc for Clark between where they have him now and where he'd have to be to end the show in a satisfying way may be too hard to accomplish in what's left of season 8. I just hope they don't hang to season 9 and make it a bunch of episodes that are just filler and really suck. Sometimes you have to know when it's time to go out...

After Bride and Legion I kind started to believe again in smallville those are really great episodes but now with all that Lana Crap. Requiem was the end for me.
I don't see light at the end of Tubelis... and I never said this here but I quit I'm tired of watching the producers of the series playing with my intelligence and my favorite character from comics so far.
I liked smallville for four years and in three other years I can say I enjoyed very little and now I don't like anything in it.
I don't now what you guys think but that's the way I fell about smallville right now.
cma_454
02-12-2009, 02:07 PM
Fernandaflima,
Here's part of what I wrote in another thread (I thinks it's applicable as a reply to your post:
I was always able to overlook Smallville's teen soap elements, in the hope of seeing the developing Superman story (and they did give it to me, but only in small doses).
Then came Season 8, and suddenly what I'd waited for seemed to finally be happening. I was enjoying Smallville more than I had in its entire run.
But, with just two episodes, PS3 managed to bring me from my highest point (regarding Smallville), to (by far) my lowest.
Power and Requiem would have been bad in Season 7, or the start of 8. But coming when they did, they were catastrophic.
Can they recover? Certainly, but Power and Requiem make me doubt not only that they will, but that they even have a clue as to how.

After REQUIEM I'm totally conviced this is an A/U in DC world. This is no longer the Superman my hero. I personally have don't like CK's path on SV. I don't see Clois anything like the comics I love & Lana changed to dramatically for me on SV.
If I hold this idea in my head that this isn't the current timeline b/c obviously the comic is the correct timeline & universe.
Then I would love to see the crazy crap PS3 & TPTB invent to try to convice me otherwise.
I personally don't like this path of Superman/Clark. He's to emotionally unstable, I question his morals & I don't like him enough to even be near the women he's meant to be with, Lois Lane. I been fed CLANA to long to much to feel really comfortable to see Lois with Clark and that's a shame. I'm scard to see it.
I personally thought changing the timeline was OK but rewriting DC History of not only the aspect of the Clois relationship but the Hero's character itself. I DO NOT LIKE.
This is not the Superman I respect and love. I've never wanted to knock him up across his head.

My goodness,I can't beleive what they had done to the CK's character in this show.I know he is not superman yet but,it has been 8 freaking years now and whenever he is near Lana Lang,he is turning himself into a 14 years who is effraid to grow up.I had faith at the beginning of the season that PS3 would treat him with more respect that AL/miles did and for moment,I thought they were doing a good job but, what a suprise the moment Lana returns, they lost complet tract of the good progression of Clark.Again he turned into a mopy farmer boy because of Miss Lang...not only that she is a superwoman with heart of gold now.Are we supposed to swallow that?Just because she sat in an ice bath, forced herself to be tortured mentally and physiquelly for 7 monts? This only prouves that she is a psycho ok?The only heroic thing she could have done to convaince me that she has really changed is if she turned herself in.She belongs in jail or at Belle Rive. She's a walking kryptonite.Youhoo!!!So,they closed this unbeleivable roller coaster ride like it begins...We knew already she was his kryptonite no need to be graphic about it.
I really don't know what think...I have lost all my respect for CK for now. So,I'll have to see the rest of the season to decide if it's worthy to have another year.

It was a fantastic episode.
I swear, fanboards are made for *****ing at this point. And people only hated the Lana arc because Lana was in it. Never mind the episodes actually being good.
Requiem had great stuff with Oliver, a beautifully well done ending with Lana, the introduction of a DC villain, and a Lana that wasn't written annoyingly stupid like in past seasons.
After REQUIEM I'm totally conviced this is an A/U in DC world.
Seriously? It's been that since season 1, episode 1. This was absolutely NEVER meant to be the DCU version. It was ALWAYS meant to be a retelling, an "Ultimate Superman", if you will.
I question his morals
Makes no sense. Just in this episode, he was firmly supporting his good morals, in that he wouldn't kill Lex. He was tempted, just like any hero is. Oliver and Chloe are hiding what Oliver did because it goes against Clark's morals. People are flawed emotionally, yes, even Superman. If he was 100% perfect, it would be boring.

We definitely need a season 9, especially after the last few episodes. otherwise people will remember smallville as a show that had a sucky ending. a season 9 could erase all that bad taste and end the series on a positive note, hopefully making us forget the disaster we just witnessed.

- Clois is pretty much trashed. Most likely, Clark will have to cry for three episodes, but hopefully Clois can simmer on a slow burn for a few months. Starting off a week after Lana leaves him would be cheap.
- Lex can't be dead. He's in every Superman mythos (when Superman was actually Superman). He pumped some blood into a bag and hooked up some poor brain dead sod in that truck. After all he's seen or suspected Clark do, he wouldn't be sitting nearby in a freaking van in plain sight.
- Doomsday is definitely coming up. If we get some big stories with Doomsday, Lois, Chloe, Oliver and Clark (NOT Lana pining!) the show can be salvaged. If its more Clark being made everyone's boy toy who can't crawl out of his girlfriend's arms to find the creature who kidnapped his best friend, count me out.

Paradoxically, such is the intensity of my seething hate for "Requiem" that my previous opinion of not wanting a 9th season in general is now open for revision.
"Requiem" was so awful, potentially fatal, that it'll take more time to recover from it.
Like 3 or 4 seasons.
Maybe then it'll recede from memory.
If we pretend really, really hard.

If they had stayed on course with the first half of the season and kept Clana platonic, then they could have ended after this season. They had the groundwork laid for Clois at the DP, as well as the beginning of a dual identity for Clark, as well as him wanting to help people on a grander scale. Throw in an episode about flight and a series finale hinting at the future/offering closure and there you go.
However, the Lana arc undid all the progress that the first half gave us. So now in order for the show to wrap everything up and smooth things over, they need a ninth season.

I feel this season was excellent until the Lana arc, which I felt was just wrapping up old plotlines. So overall I'm very pleased with the season and hope the last half of the season is just as strong. If it is I'll have no problems saying Yes to Season 9.

NO Season 9!!!!
Because 9 years of Clark being a baby isnt Superman material.

I've already gotten over Requiem and Power. Saw the Infamous trailer and I'm recharged, rebooted and ready to go!!!
Bring on season 9! Heck, this is the story of Superman. When you think about, this show COULD go for another 5 years (considering Tom is still in his early 30s) and never run out story lines.
Darkseid, Gog, Justice League, Wonder Woman, Conner-El, Lori Lemaris (if I'm spelling it right) Zod in his true form (not as Lex), Kara finds survivors of Krypton and Clark temporarily returns to his people...the list goes on and on!!!
I, for one would love at least 10 seasons of Smallville!

I still want to see a season nine, but they'd better clean up this horrendous mess they've made of Clark. If not, I'll go insane!

The whole Clois thing never came to fruition. Triplets review said it best that they will take their time building up to it to avoid another "Lois and Clark" The Adventures of Superman" fiasco. I mean honestly, as much as I would like to see Cark and Lois finally get it on.... I think they are holding off on it for two reasons:
1-Lois only shows up half the season... so to have her lip locking with Clark on one episode and the next shes nowhere to be seen... makes for one wavy relationship
2-With the whole Lana-Clark saga... at the end of it Clark will have to ake a choice that affects the show wether hes gonna forget about Lana for good and move on... or will he be a puppy-dog and "wait" for her to make another comeback sometime in season 9 where her kryptonite infection will have worn off!

Okay, I have to be honest, I've never really been a huge Lana fan. I will say this for her though, I think that her relationship with Clark was beneficial because it enables the audience to see Clark outside the confines of his impending relationship with Lois. We all know he ends up with Lois. So, to see him wrestle with the concept of what happens when you have too many secrets in a relationship is interesting. To see how he grows to accept that fact that if people love you, they'll accept you no matter who and what you are. To entertain the possibility of being in relationship where you can not only share what you do, but have similar strength and speed too....it's interesting.
Their relationship gave us the ability to see Clark grow. We learn what he learns. See the mistakes he made that he wont repeat with Lois because he knows how to handle himself in a relationship. I mean, sometimes I wish their relationship had not been drawn out for so long, but it fits with who Clark is. He's not the type of guy that enters into serious relationships easily. Sure, he's had his attractions, but when he chooses a woman, he's faithful. It fits with his morals.
That being said, I'm not really sure why everyone is so upset about Requiem. It was a fitting end to the "Clana" arc. I think the writers worked with what they had and they did it very well. They left the door open for Lana to return in later episodes. Whether or not Lex is really dead is up in the air. Requiem gave us a lot of possibilites, and I definitely want to see a season 9.

I think you answered part of your own question (see portion in bold).
Feelings (good or bad) for Lana aside, many people dislike the way Clark is written when Lana is present.
IMHO, we had Clark as a near-Superman at the start of this season, only to have him revert to the immature Clark of past seasons when Lana reappeared. What some see as his love for Lana, others see as an unhealthy obsession (i.e. won't kill Chloe to save the world, but will kill Lex because he interfered with his ability to be with with Lana).
I also fail to see any true end to Clana. All that is required to renew it, is the removal or neutralization of Lana's suit. A seemingly simple task in the Smallville universe. I don't say it will be done, merely that it's possible.
For many, the non-closure of Clana and the possibility of Lana's return are not viewed in a positive light. YMMV.

If Lana does come back it will probably only be a few run ins as a JLA member to help out the cause and not Clark. Im a fan of Lana but I do agree that the Clana ark needs to be put to an end.
now season 9 is a must!
I can even imagine the cliffhanger of this season:
dont worry I wont tell you... I wont ruin your surprising suspense!

My prior reaction to S9 was ‘NO’ when I watched this episode but I slowly changed my mind as time passes. Because in this show, we supposedly see Clark become Superman at the end of the series, right? Well, I don’t know how that’s possible within 8 episodes, after I saw Clark regressed to a 14 years old, docile, hormon-driven boy, it’ll be super lightswitch if this Clark suddenly becomes Super Man in a couple of month. And honestly I won’t be able to cheer for him when someone call him Superman for the first time or when he rips open his shirt to reveal the S, it’ll be super rip off moment if you ask me. (pun not intended)
I think some serious damage control will be needed for this character. The value of the whole SV universe is depends on how cool/awesome/respectable, its Clark Kent is. And THAT’s been terribly damaged in this Lana-arc. IMO
If TPTB succeed to redeem him in a believable way and he becomes once again the character we all love and adore, then the rest (his future relationship and the supporting characters in general) will take care of itself, I think.
So if they end it in this season, I think there will be more chance that the whole series will remain tainted from a Superman fans POV. If they could provide us some interesting storylines which directly involves Clark and introduce villains who can push both Clark and Superman side of him (e.g. Intergang) without Lana Lang being around, then S9 might be not a bad idea (maybe). JMO
I really want this series to recover its glory before the series end so that I wouldn’t feel it has been a waste of time and money every time when I look at my seasons 1-7 DVD collections.
