Tonight at 8PM on NBC.... a new Knight Rider!

It's one of those "main character enters a fight club" type episodes so my hopes aren't too high... but we'll see. Either way, count down and discuss the episode LIVE here!

In my humble opinion, this was another top-notch episode. I really enjoyed everything, from the action to the comedy and mystery elements...this is what Knight Rider should be. One man, one car, helping people in small towns all across the country, with a loyal team of friends for backup. The tone of this remake is getting even closer to the original, as it should. Major props to GST, the actors, writers, and crew for another well-done adventure. :D

I wasn't all that interested in this episode.

KITT was wittier than ever, great moments from him/it.

Since I have very limited knowledge of the original KR, the "one man, one car" formula doesn't make alot of sense to me. When they were still part of a military ops program, I thought they had purpose, defending the country. Now they're just wandering rogue samaritans? what's the point? they just do what they do because they can?

I suppose they're somewhat similar to any superhero team, their job is to be heroes... but I'm still unclear on what their place is in the world. For example, they are the good guys in principle, but does the law also see them that way? or are they considered vigilantes?

In a sense, they're similar to the Men in Black, minus the alien angle. They are above and beyond the government system, helping people on an individual basis. Their cases usually concern someone who's "slipped through the cracks" of modern society. There's so much political garbage and "red tape" that prevents agencies from taking action these days, and in the series, Mike works for a group that isn't bound by that.

For example, they are the good guys in principle, but does the law also see them that way? or are they considered vigilantes? In the original series, the Foundation was often viewed as a "black sheep" by federal agencies (mostly because they were effectively doing the governemnt's job, minus all the legalistic barriers.

was I the only one who immedately thought okay the return of krypto freak/kryptonian fight club just without the freaks and kryptonians while watching this episode mike even had his own lois to protect form the badguys though he did it with hishuman strength and a supercar instead of superpowers.

Ok episode, nothing great though for me. Didn't get interesting or fun until the actual fight club stuff started up. I don't know why but after that Optimus Karr stuff, everything else seems to pale in comparison. I want more Transformers. lol

One thing I wanted to mention about the ep, I think Kitt should have flattened that corrupt sheriff, lol. What is Kitt, Superman? Lol I guess Kitt never kills either?

I'd like to see a "race" themed ep, homaging something like The Fast & The Furious (or did we already get one? can't remember). Or maybe a much longer, cross country race, something like that shortlived Fox series Drive, spanning several episodes. That would be fun. I'd also like to see an episode homaging Stuntman Mike/Death Proof. The episode can end with Stuntman Mike's suped up car and Mike's car crashing into each other head first at insane speeds, and Kitt of course totally obliterating him. lol

I saw this more as a general spoofing/homage rather than a specific ripoff, but I did notice the specific similarities you mentioned.

Nice to see a modernised KR series getting classic KR moments. IMHO, it's refreshing since all that techno-stuff we got loads of thus far. Toning down the gadgets and focusing on story IS what KNIGHT RIDER was in the 80's. The tech is only the bonus, and boy, does the tech looks awesome: on previous episodes I used to take the transformations for granted, but now, when Kitt transformed to the pickup truck, I actually grinned. I appreciate the little things, like Kitt's wit.

Two thumbs from me. and again, great rebooting.

I dug the episode. Sure, the fight club thing has been done but I think they spent enough time doing other things like the scene in the morgue and Mike running through the woods that it didn't feel like this was all it was.

I also dug the truck transformation. It was used as it should have been... on a dirt road. It was practical and it's something I would like to see more off. Plus I loved the line about KITT not having a hoopty mode.

My favorite KITT line was the final exchange between him and Mike...

"You'd make a hell of a drill sargeant, KITT."

"Thank you, Michael; now, drop down and give me 20, private Knight, you no-good piece of -"

"KITT!"

That last bit of banter was pretty funny. I also only thought it was ok. While I understand the point of the truck transformation I still don't really like it. Although I have noticed the rewatchability of the show has gone up imensely. This one wasn't one of my favorite, but I think I could still enjoy watching it more than once. That's something I couldn't really say for the first half of the show even though I have liked them too. I jut couldn't watch them more than once.

Anyway one thing I both did and didn't like was the casting of Michael O'Hern as Molina. It was nice seeing him in it, but at the same time, it's hard not seeing him as Superman. I still liked his short performance in the World's Finest faux movie trailer.

I must admit I was rather sceptical about the episode after reading the episode description, but I turned out to be wrong. I was very cleverly done. I'm getting the feeling GST and the writers have actually been watching the original KR because a lot of elements which made that series famous are present in the reboot. there's more interaction between Michal and KITT, Sarah, Zoe and Billy are seen less and, especially Billy and Zoe, are less irritating.
But what surprises me more is KITT. He's actually funny and displaying more of a personality. The final line with Michael was priceless. It made me think of that episode if the 4th season of KR when KITT displays a Bronx-like personality after hitting a few holes on the ground (I watched a long time ago, so maybe what triggered the change was something different).
What I now like is that this show is more about a man who is helping normal people and his special car. This is what it should have been from the beginning. Hopefully if ratings pick up it'll have a chance to get picked up for a second season.

You have some good points.

As for the original episode I don't remember what initially caused the change, but pot holes and speed bumps did bring back the malfunction a few times in the episode. It's been a while since I saw it as well. Actually now I'm curious so I may have to go watch it and see what it was.

best reboot episode to date. Finally there wasn't some big plot hole shaved down our throats, hoping that we don't care if the show is poorly written.

enjoyable episode...it's good to see some of the old KR elements back, such as the "one man" formula, or the funny relationship between Mike and KITT...hope the show will find its way

Seems like they've got back to the Origins with the One Man, One Car thing. very nice

Definitely my favorite and, as others have mentioned, the most classic KR-feeling ep of this reboot.

Pro:

Losing the earwig forced Michael to use his own brains and brawn instead of overly relying on KITT to magically whip up something, and also it created tension when they couldn't just find him in the woods.

Nitpicks:

If Mike Tracer is dead and KITT is top secret, how could he be so easily contacted by someone he used to know? I know it would have cut down on the action in the ep, but I'd have liked that explained.

Also, not that Tiki Barber was the reason anyone tuned in, how could they promote him as the "special guest star" and have him only appear in a few flashbacks and clips? I know he's not Olivier when it comes to acting, but he must have really stunk to barely appear in the ep.

Totally agree. The show is FINALLY feeling like the original for me, and I'm starting to really enjoy the fun. KITT is starting to get near to some of his original witty humor, and we're getting to the one man one car scenario too.

I can only hope someone somewhere realizes this and gives it another shot next season!
