View Full Version : An episode title for the Pilot episode?

I have a question actually. I'm pretty sure the answer is "no" but I'll ask it anyway. Did they ever go back and actually give the pilot a title? The only reason I ask is that some shows do, once they get picked up. For example, I happened to stumble upon some information about the old show Journeyman. It only lasted half of a season (a real shame) but its pilot was called "The Love of a Lifetime". If the pilot DIDN'T get named, what do you think would have been a good title for it? Remember, Smallville only uses one word titles. I try to think back to some of the themes that were prevalent in the pilot. Maybe...
-"Normal"
-"Epiphany"
-"Gifts"
What are your ideas?

I think arrival would have been good if that hadnt been used already

I actually like the title "Gifts" because Clark was just discovering his and then there's the issue of Lex giving Clark the truck. I think "Gifts" would have been a good title.

Thats true i forgot about the truck. Or maybe Beginnings because it is the ceginning of the show, Clark's journey, and his friendship with Lex

Well the first season they named their episodes mainly after the villans... metamorphosis (bug boy) hothead (fire power) x-ray (tina) cool (heat sucking) etc etc
So if they were going to name it at all it'd probably be Electric or something

"Scarecrow"
I like "Beginnings" too.

Probably because that is when the show takes off! :D I didn't know Wikipedia had a whole article on Television Show Pilots. See here for more info: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Television_pilot

Some good suggestions. I still like "Gifts" the best, but most of the ones listed here would have been good as well.

"Origins" - showing the beginnings of Clark, Lex, Lana, and the other characters
"Legends" - in reference to iconic characters like Clark and Lex
"Meteor" - in reference to the meteor shower that started everything
"Retribution" - in reference to Jeremy Creek's quest for vengeance

"Beginnings" is the best title for the pilot. "Origins" would have been better replacing "Rossetta" IMO

Or since they love naming episodes based on the character that the episode is highlighting, I'd say we go with "Clark". We've already had "Kara", "Cyborg", "Zod", and "Perry" among others...

That's actually pretty good :D
Never thought of it tbh...

Beginnings is the best choice. But a close second would be: When does Lois Lane Get Here?

In that case: "Hopefully Never" would be a good one for the second episode instead of Metamorphosis :rotfl:

Agreed.
It'd have been really cool for the first episode to be named "Clark" and to have the final episode of the series be named "Superman." :)

The novelization of that episode was called "Arrival":

I like pilot simply because it is hard to name this episode in one word. Clark doesn't quite cut it for me for a very first episode, but it would be my first choice out of what I've seen so far.

Lana :p
I suppose "Requiem" would become "Lanaless" and "Finale", "Lanawho?"

I think naming it 'Smallville' would make sense, but it'd be pretty weird calling it 'Smallville E01x01: Smallville' maybe they could copy Buffy and have it be 'Welcome to Kansas' or something, but it'd be out of sink with the one word names. I suppose that's not so bad on the first one tho :)
I think Meteor would be a good one maybe.

"Scarecrow," "Voltage," "Legend," "Journey," or "Awakening" are some titles I think would be cool for the pilot. I also like the already suggested: "Smallville," "Clark," "Origin," and "Meteor."

I like Pilot, it fits the plot because Clark is the lonely pilot of the spaceship that arrives to earth. Arrival would have been a nice name too, but I like Pilot better. JMO.

"Scarecrow", and "Voltage" i think are kinda lame. "Journey" and "Awakening" are great.
"Smallville" and "Meteor" hmmm....redundant and boring. "CLARK' is awesome, "Origin" is ok.
But given how much it has taken this guy to find out who he is...
Instead of "Finale" we ought to have "Superman".
Instead of "Pilot" we ought to have "Wimp"

Secret. It was the underlying theme of the whole series from pilot to finale.

But what about "found?" - infant clark finds a family, lex finds a friend in clark, clark finds a friend in lana
