View Full Version : The Scariest Moment on TV

As I was watching, completely put off by the episode thus far, I heard Lana's voice telling Clark to go to the roof of the DP. I thought, "Nah, can't be. They wouldn't do that." Clark and Lana are on the roof. Lana tells him she's changed, and is ready to do good stuff with her powers. I think to myself, "Well we all know what happened last time, and Clark himself chastised her this very episode about that!" I then watched in utter terror as Clark declared that this was his dream come true.

My parents being in the next room (while I was supposed to be doing homework), it's all I could do to prevent myself from screaming. Clark sounds like a straight-up villain. The moment was actually invocative of the Zod/Lana kiss at the end of Season Five. That was fine; I liked Lana's characterization back then. And mixing her with General Zod was nothing short of extremely interesting. But here, it's Clark. Clark, confessing his greatest dream: SuperClana. It was as though Clark sold his soul right there: he rejected his destiny as Superman, and instead embraced the woman who killed Lex's guards and burned herself alive to achieve power that she had lost, power that she craved.

And Clark embraces Lana's cravings. He applauds her for that very flaw that caused him to lose his best friend in Lex Luthor. I'll say it again, if only to affirm that I'm not exaggerating for humorous effect: that line rang extremely villainous of Clark.

The writers then decide that it's not enough that Clark has embraced the craving for power. They have to make out on Lois and Clark's sacred ground. It is painful. I once again fight the urge to yell at the TV. I wonder for one moment if Clark would suddenly fly Lana away, or vice versa. Thankfully, TPTB relent, and leave us with the credits.

Once again, I'm not even trying to be ironic when I call the moment scary. Going back to the Season Five finale, that scene was meant to be scary; Zod is here, Zod is getting what he wants, and Zod is desecrating humanity with his presence, cultivated in his kiss with Lana Lang.

In this scene, Clark Kent, Kal-El, Superman...does exactly the same thing.

Well, take heart. Superman does not really exist in SV. I mean can you really see this Clark Kent becoming Superman with Lanagirl by his side? If he had already been Superman when she took on the power suit then he might have stood a chance, but now I don't see it. He was progressing so well before Lana arrived on the scene but he immediately regressed when she came back. If she did not hold him back in the past from embracing his destiny she will now just because she is a person with a different set of morals and ethics. Seven months cannot change a person that much. I believe she is still up to no good and it will bring him to his knees. So I personally don't ever see SV!Clark becoming Superman. He never even learns to fly. What a shame.

Exactly SV had the makings of being an all time great show. But he cant even fly. Just ridiculous.

Honestly, I don't see Superman and Lanagirl, the way the scene was portrayed I see SuperLana and her sidekick Clark. One day wearing a supersuit and she wants to jump from rooftop to rooftop and fight against crime. And you are right, 7 months cannot change a person that much. Clark didn't change, he is making progress but still had a long road ahead. He's being more proactive and is trying to make a difference, but his essence, his morals are the same his parents taught him when he was a kid. Lana once accused Clark that no one was up to his rightful standards, I wonder what will happen if Clark doesn't agree with her methods to save the world.

I guess she'll kick his butt like she tried to do in 'Wrath'. But, seriously, he better watch out. She is dangerous.

Superman and Lanagirl. Or as you put it Lanagirl and her sidekick. Would you call him Clarkboy? This made me laugh. But seriously, Clark did not go through the training that Lana went through to prepare herself. A lot can happen and does happen in the course of 7 months.

This is what pains me the most. Again, they put this woman in the highest pedestal ever created. God forbids Lana is faulty in any way, shape or form. Let's make her a Superhero, so she can die saving the world and ever be remembered as Holy Lana Lang.

But not the training of character that is required to have that kind of power. Even Jonathan Kent told Clark that he was tempted to do wrong when he had his powers. Clark has lived with those powers all his life and had excellent parents that helped him to channel them properly. I don't think you can learn that in 7 months. That is why I think Lana might be dangerous.

Superlana and Clarkyboy, it has a nice ring to it. ;)

Now seriously, I don't think 7 months of training can change someone completely. Athletes train for years before reaching competitive levels, Clark himself will stay years at the fortress before he becomes superman, and it takes a few years to obtain a college degree (unless you are a genious). Lana spends 7 months with a navy seal to get rid of her human 'weaknesses' and now she's ready master the superpowers she'll obtain from the Prometheus suit. She was trained to supress fear and pain but not be fair and just. Her trainer told her to never look down and achieve her goal no matter what. He even said Clark was holding her back. My fear is what will Lana do with her unlimited power. She already lost her tracks once, just because she said she's a different person doesn't mean she really changed.

This is true, but in that same vein of reasoning, she could possibly have changed. We'd honestly just have to watch her to know for sure. Hopefully even after she's gone, Chloe or Clark will from time to time mention what she's doing to help people around the world.

Lana's name was mentioned in every episode of the season except Commited. Don't worry, they'll continue to mention her until the end of the series.

Remember the image of Lana bringing Clark to his knees in the barn, that's still to come.

I hope they use it in next year's Opening Credits :)

I didn't like that scene. The Daily Planet is suppose to be a Clois place, not Clana. They should have done that scene in an other location. Farm, Talon, Isis, anywhere but THERE!
