This was because it really effects Clark's character or lack there of. The others were just filler.

This is an episode that should never have taken place simply because of what we, the audience, know about the future. This is the episode that is going to permanently destroy everything about that future, IMO.

Hero, then its Thirst only because I only hated Power because of the ending where Lana gets powers.

01-30-2009, 09:08 AM
I didn't think it was all that bad. There have been worse, and even worse TV shows out there. Any reality TV is worse than this episode by far! XD
Anyways, they are just trying to wrap up Lana, and get to Lois and Clark. Lana was a big part of Clarks life, in several series! This is Fan Fiction!

As much as I hated this episode, there is no way it was as bad as ageless.

I didn't think it was that bad. I am betting more fans are bashing because of Lana getting more powers again. Mind you, I'm not a big fan of people other than Kryptonians having powers, but I do want to see where this leads.
The ep dragged a bit of the ultimate storyline, we're still quite a ways from Clark realizing he doesn't look bad in a red cape.
I have yet to figure out if they're dragging it out in favor of a S9, but I'll still avoid the spoilers, thank you ;)

I find it unfortunate how much a disliked this episode. I'm not even a Lana hater. Some of her arcs have not been tight, but none on Smallville are, even Clarks progression. It just seems that towards the end of last season and now, she has become a hinderance and it was only made more apparent by how well the show was and how Clark was written when she away. Also, her getting powers was ludicrous. That was the last straw.

I really thought Drone was the worst episode!Power was actually a decent episode for me and those of us who don't hate Lana.
Power ranks right up there, but Subterranean, Sleeper, and Hero were worse. The end is what ruined Power - Clark's total regression was awful! But there were some thing to like about the first half of the ep, which I really can't say about the other three.

Oh, I dunno. Wasn't "Thirst" the vampire ep? It was broadcast around Halloween, and I just took it as silly fun.
Don't forget, SV is a comic book come to life, sometimes we need to take the stories a little bit lighter....

It was an absolute SHOCKER This episode was full of so much cheese, it's should of been filmed in the Netherlands!! And this suit... can't she take it off?! Does it need washing?! Has it got a label in it saying "Hand wash only. Don't use Bleaches or Detergents"?!
Well, i suppose every great long running show is going to produce a lemon once in a while. But, this was more of a Lemon tree...

Power is NOT a bad episode.
I really think all of you have lost sight of the overall mission/
they Brought bac kLana, to BTTER help Clar kbecome the hero he is...
he's learning this...and is actung more like superman towards things ,and is learning lessons
YOU all claim that Lana has been down this road before, and that she's just power hungry, and her cries of doing good are BS< caz of WRATH
Well, there's some phrases you should learn...
1.
fool me once shame on you fool me twice shame on me
DOn't push your luck
2nd. The writers are building up for something..
So, she's SUPER LANA for now..
and views herself as clark's equal
At this point, she COULD do some things
she could travel the world, like Kara, and d ogood seperatly....
She could minilally run ISIS again, with Clark going o nto become superman
She ca nonly help him out in tight spots, liek she did when she came back
or....as is suspected, be killed off
BUT, you all act like she's stompng on clark, when the story isn't evwen FINISHED YET
Please be considerate that the writrs have the master plan.
DOn't judge on the past; this is a new age,
Clark is still going to become Superman, no matter what happens...
i think this episode is a great build up on his journey, and ISNT bad at all
i mean, do you REALLY think Claa is going to stick around? with CLark having feelings for lois already?
Get REAL, think realistically, plan accordingly, and give people chances...
DO NOT lose sight of smallville's goal
forgive me, i had to say all that. i hope i didn' offend anyone.

It was just another ridiculous storyline involving Lana to make people give a crap about her when she hasn't added anything to the show worth watching since season three.
Seriously, I'm wondering what they could have possibly done to make the episode worse.
SGuthrie27
02-01-2009, 03:55 PM
Yeah, but, wha...? Okay, I get it... People think "Power" was bad. I'm inclined to agree with them. But I also believe that PARTS of it were definitely necessary. Did we need to know where Lana had been since she abruptly ran off and returned as a martial arts master in "Bride?" Yes. Did we need Clark to come to some sort of conclusion about where his relationship with Lana was going? Yes. Did we need to reveal who Lana had been communicating with since "Bride?" Also yes. Did any of that HAVE to lead to a Daily Planet kiss, Lana getting super powers, and Chloe ridiculously rooting for the Clana ship to return (sort of)? NO WAY, JOSE! Still, those things aside, I do NOT believe for one SECOND that this was the WORST episode of all time.
I chose "Thirst." The violent content of it was EXTREMELY disturbing (remember the pizza guy getting devoured in the hot tub?). The vampire element was just ridiculous anyway, and led to some really bizarre, uncomfortable, and really rather dorky scenes. I have vowed never to watch it again, even though Chloe does some nice voice-over work and Carrie Fisher guest stars in it.
There were several others on that list which were supremely groan-worthy, too. In my mind, "Power" is definitely better than "Accelerate," and several others that were on that list (and a couple that weren't like "Craving" and "Redux").
--SGuthrie ><>' :)--
----- Added 1 Minutes later -----
P.S. Oops. I meant "Ageless," not "Accelerate." I actually thought "Accelerate was rather a good kind of creepy, and had some supremely spooky moments with Lionel, not to mention the little ghost girl Emily Dinsmore.

Power is an episode that made every single character in it look kind of crazy...
- Lana - she is kidnapped but manages to escape... and her first instinct is to go to a man who teaches people how to withstand torture, spend weeks training dunking herself in ice and burning herself (which wasn't even filmed in a believable or inspiring way), and then spends months on a mission to steal a suit that is going to give her super powers because she believes that she is so strong and incredible that she deserves this suit
-Clark - finds out his ex girlfriend has just risked her life, tortured herself, in order to cheat her way into the life of a super hero because she wasn't fullfilled enough being normal (which is what he always wanted, and what he always wanted for her) and declares that it's 'a dream' and kisses her...
-Chloe - is no where near her injured husband, not even mentioning him and encouraging the restart of a relationship that she KNOWS is no good
-Tess - well do i even need to go into why this episode made her look insane?
it's not that the episode was clana/lana sentric. it's not even that it made lana look all harcore... it's that i could not understand any of the actions made by the characters...
a good tv show has us connecting with the characters. we feel there pain, we understand them, we don't think that they should seek mental help!

Ageless was worse. And most of season 7.
Imo, in terms of general watchability and the amount of entertainment I got out of the hour, I didn't even think Power was the worst of the season let alone the series. Pre-supersuit (obligatory eyeroll) I was actually kind of surprised by how much I wasn't hating Lana. Her backstory was interesting. She became way less flimpy after it was shown that, in fact, she HADN'T broken up with her boyfriend of forever on a freakin videocam. That and the fact that I LOVED Tess in this episode made it completely watchable right up to that Clana kiss in the top of DP (I'm more or less okay with the Clana, but the top of the DP belongs to LOIS and SUPERMAN dag nabbit).
In terms of the overall storyline, yeah, Power's gotta be the worst I can think of. Episodes like Ageless, Sleeper, and Thirst were BAD while you watched them but after you were done the only thing ruined was your hour. After Power, I honestly can't think of a way for TPTB to fix it. That doesn't mean there isn't one, but it does mean they've got their work cut out for them.
As an aside, am I the only one who actually liked the Star Trek Voyager episode Threshold? First Superman Returns, now this. tsk tsk.

But she did brake up with him on a freaking videocam. Lana had no intention of setting the record straight, Tess told Clark.

She did it at GUNPOINT though. I think her reasoning is pretty okay there. She did the breakup at gunpoint, and then once she was free she felt like she needed to go make herself strong or whatever and she didn't want to un-breakup with Clark. Personally, I would have contacted him and been like "We're still broken up, but I just want you to know I'm not actually flimpy enough to break up with you over a DVD." but I don't think it's entirely unreasonable an action on her part.

It doesn't really make a difference that it was at gunpoint is what I am saying.
Why wouldn't Lana be flimpy enough to break up that way? She did it before. It's so Lana, and that is one of the reasons why she didn't bother to contact Clark in those months. That she became (more) unhinched and went to self torture sessions is another.

Well, a person who's being held at gunpoint can't really be held accountable for anything they're made to do. The only other time (and correct me if I'm wrong) she broke up over videocam was when Whitney was at war and that really was the most personal and considerate way for her to do it. In that case if she could have done it face to face I'm sure she would have. And no I don't have a particularly high opinion of Lana in seasons 7 and 8, and I didn't think it was OOC for her to do the video breakup, just depressingly flimpy.

I have to wait too see how they resolve this first, before I name "Power" to the list of SV's greatest shames. I'm thinking they are just trying to get us all worked up (and doing a great job, apparently!), and they have a solution in mind to appease this blood thirsty mob. Speaking of blood thirsty, Power is nowhere near as bad as Thirst!!
