Write out a line that you believe smallville repeats a lot

(Season 5 Vengeance) (Season 6 Hydro) (Season 8 Prey) (Season 8 Power)

Chloe to Clark: You of all People should know that Clark.

(Season 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8) (Season 5 and 6 a lot this line was repeated)

to Lana: I am Protecting you.

Lana to: I dont need to be protected (in the end bich always needed protection)

She has heard this line probably more than any other character. Give your Lines

'Clark, you have many powers, but the last time I checked, blahblahblah is definitely not one of them.' Lana said that to bizarro in Persona and Chloe said something similar to Clark in Power.

"It was the hardest thing I've ever had to do." Oddly used quite often - generally by Clark in relation to something having to do with Lana.

"I know how much you love her, Clark, but maybe you should let Lana go and move on..." - or something along this line. Said by Martha/Chloe. To be followed in the very next episode by the SAME CHARACTER saying something like, "If you really love Lana, Clark, you should fight for her! Don't let her get away!"

All the characters in Smallville seem to suffer from some sort of odd multiple personality disorder or something.

"psychotic break"

"lana"

I had to quote this too because it is so funny. Clark says her name a lot, especially when he's trying to protect/rescue her. More like LANA!!!

My own line would be having Chloe say "can we put a moratorium on blah, blah, blah" for the 100th time.

Lois keeps repeating that she doesn't want to hear about the Clana rollercoaster. Gee, no wonder I miss her so much.

LOL :rotfl: Very true Jade. I thought as much when I heard Chloe talking to Clark last night.

 It was really bad in S5...though S6 was pretty bad too, now that I think about it. I remember at one point when I was watching Smallville with a friend she asked me, "I don't get it. Are Chloe and Martha hoping Clark and Lana end up together, or are they wanting them to both move on?" I could only respond, "Um...yes?" I needed a color-coded flow chart to keep track of where everyone stood in regards to Clana.

Here's another.

"I don't know what you're talking about Lex/Chloe/Lana/FotW." - Said by Clark in response to being asked point-blank a question he could easily have prevaricated on. Instead, he makes the worst attempt at lying ever.

This line was only in Wrath, though, right?

I don't know about the latter, but it seems like the former has been used a lot. That or "I wasn't myself." I read a review once where the reviewer finally broke down and asked, "Okay, is there ever a week on Smallville when all the characters ARE themselves?"

Now I'm trying to think of all the "You weren't yourself" or "I wasn't myself" episodes. I'm sure it was used in Wrath, Red, Nicodemus, Transference...*tries to think back*

Oh, please don't remind me about how terrible Clark was at lying. He didn't even try to come across as honest. "Chloe, I don't know what you are talking about."

But the all time worst line that was said over and over again was............

"I can't tell anyone my secret. What if they find about my secret? They won't treat me the same if they know my secret. Secret, secret, secret."

Clark almost drove me crazy with that one.

Clark almost drove me crazy with that one.Well, Clark does have a valid point where the series' story is concerned. Outside of Smallville, most people have never seen an alien, or anyone with superhuman abilities. Most people who hadn't grown up anywhere near the tiny Kansas town would be very afraid if Clark revealed his secret to the world. They'd probably be curious at first, and then frightened for their own safety (not knowing what else to think). Superman's greatest ally has always been his dual identity, which allows him to blend in among humans, so they won't fear him while he's in "hero mode".

*drives nail into skull* Oh, heavens, you had to remind me? Back in early seasons, it got to be really bad.

Lana: "I want to be with you, but I just can't do that with all these secrets and lies between us."
Clark: "I don't know what you're talking about, Lana. I don't have a secret!"
Lana: "I'm not stupid, Clark. I want to know your secret."
Clark: "I'd like to be with you, more than anything ever in the whole wide world. But I just don't know if you'll look at me the same when I tell you my secret."
Lana: "HAH! So you DO have a secret?"
Clark: "Uh...no. I don't have a secret. What makes you say that? Look! Flying piggies in pants!"

I think they got paid for each time they worked the word "secret" into the conversation.

Then there are things that they overused for short periods of time. Like when they started having Lana say a bit too often things like, "I know when I..." As in, in a conversation about something else, they'd segue the conversation onto another topic by having Lana say, "I know when I..." Which just got to be entirely too much, and they didn't understand why people complained about it.

There are also things that have been said repeatedly that just don't make sense in the context of the show. "Chloe, you mean more to me than you know." Clark has said that repeatedly...and then shoved Chloe in the mud to race to Lana's side. The girls even laughed at how obvious he was about it in "Spell."

Then there have been other odd switches back and forth on the show. Often with Lex.

One week:

Clark: "I don't know how I could have ever trusted you, Lex!"

Next week:

Clark: "We're best friends, right, Lex? And we always, always will be?"

Okay, that was never said...to my recollection. But you get the point.

OMG, how could I have forgotten?

Okay, my apologies in advance for this one, Clana4Life, because this isn't meant in a bashing kind of way. But how many people have come through town and said something along the lines of "You two must really love each other/you're perfect for each other/you belong together/you're lucky to have (him/her/eachother)" in reference to Lana and Clark. Which is fine if it's, like, Chloe or Lois or someone who actually knows Lana and Clark and has seen them together. But it seems that at times people will say this after viewing a PHOTOGRAPH. And not a photograph of the two of them together, even! I think at one point, I was expecting someone to hit the city limits, stop the car, and say, "I...wait...I sense...there is a couple in this town...named Clark and Lana...and they are lucky to have each other!" You'd think TPTB would be more sub...er...never mind.

ETA: Oh, here's another one that's been driving ME crazy even though they JUST STARTED IT.

"Lois and Clark." As in "Nothing's going to mess with Lois and Clark." "There's nothing romantic between Lois and Clark." "Lois and Clark would be great together." I appreciate the sentiments, I do. But stop making people talk about themselves in the third person just to make a good soundbite. And yes, it still sounds silly to have Jimmy say something like that TO Lois, as well.

Good old-fashioned regular everyday English works fine, thanks. "Nothing's going to mess with the two of us!" "There's nothing romantic between us/Clark and me!" "Trust me, you two would be great together." See how much more natural that sounds? No, you don't get the "Lois and Clark" name pairing, but geez. Just reserve those for someone talking to someone ELSE about the two of them. Like have Jimmy say to Chloe, "Lois and Clark would be great together..." Presto chango, you get the soundbite you want, and Jimmy doesn't sound like an idiot.

Lois' 'chop-chop' was used twice this season. Also the 'define super', 'define thing' was used a lot in dialogues in the previous seasons.

One thing that really annoyed me in 'Identity' was Clark starting every sentence with 'Jimmy'. 'Jimmy, this is a pretty random leap', 'Jimmy, you're not making any sense'. I think he said it like five times in a row.

I wonder if the writers will read this thread. I know that sometimes they come to the forums. it would be interesting if they realize that fans usually pay more attention to details than they do.

How many times has "You're not going to believe this!" or "I don't believe this!" or any variation thereof been said? Yes, it's a common expression...but at this point, is there ANY character on the show that should be amazed by ANYTHING they see? It should be more like:

Chloe: "What's that noise, Clark?"
Clark: *looking out a window* "A spaceship filled with brain-eating alien bugs just landed in the middle of the street. It's a massacre out there!"

Geesh, now you have revealed the secret of the Smallville writing room! The writers have a big box with standard phrases on numbered cards. To write an episode they simply draw random numbers, pull out the respective card, and the text of the episode is done. That way of writing explains a lot!

SGuthrie27

The main repetitive line/conversation this episode was what I've heard in many other Chlark discussions...

Clark: Chloe, how could you keep this secret from me?

Chloe: She asked me to keep it a secret.

Clark: And now she's in danger!

Chloe: Clark, excuse me for taking a breather for keeping your secret to keep someone else's for a change!

Clark: But this is different!

Chloe: Why, 'cause it's not you? Face it, Clark, she has a right to privacy too, blah, blah, blah.

Clark: Blah, blah, BLAH! (Super-speeds away -- Chloe's left with a hurt expression).

Seriously, I've had enough of that little guilt trip chat.

or when she is almost going to die: LANA!!!!

Seriously, Clark has said Lana's name more time than most human beings use the word "the." By the way, AgentChaos, if only those lines really WERE spoken on the show. I'm sure enough characters, if they really existed, would have at least thought them about, oh... once every other episode, lol.

This thread is great!

My congrats to the thread-starter. :)

I haven't read through all the posts yet but some of them, as well as the comments are just hilarious, though true.

who ever : "trust me"
you beat me to it! :)
I'm pretty sure that "trust me" or the word "trust" is in EVERY episode, at least once, sometimes more, since the beginning of the series. I believe it it done on purpose to drive home the significance and importance that is placed on it in this series.... :)

 I swear this last episode maxed out lana's name. It seemed to be in just about every sentence spoken.

I can't get this phrase out of my head..i feel like it always pops up in some form or another.
"Clark the world needs you"

I wonder if the writers will read this thread. I know that sometimes they come to the forums. it would be interesting if they realize that fans usually pay more attention to details than they do.

"I never wanted to hurt you." (Clark, Lex, Chloe...who HASN'T said this?)

skylar
02-01-2009, 07:52 PM

Me too!!

Thanks, Skylar -- it's nice to know I'm not the only one who feels that way.

Oh, and I remembered another OLD line that repeated a lot:

Jonathan: "You can't son, it's too dangerous!" (about every few episodes from Seasons 1-5) Though I do miss Jonathan though (and Martha). They so need to bring them back for an episode before the series ends (in a flashback or something).

All the characters in Smallville seem to suffer from some sort of odd multiple personality disorder or something.

lol so true, i cant stop laughing. it just happened, in bulletproof chloe says i hope you dont backdoor my cousin, the in power shes all gunho you should fight for lana and be with her if thats wat you want. does she want her cousin screwed over? obviously now!:rotfl:

This line was only in Wrath, though, right?
they use the 'you weren't yourself line all the time, i think its more of any excuse. lol. clark: u were dosed with red k you werent urslef,Lana: u were possesed by a witch u werent urself, Lex:zod has taken over ur body but you werent urself, Chloe:u drank love potion u werent urself, yea but the feelings were real the witches started a raging party, we werent ourselves. lol:rotfl:

----- Added 10 Minutes later -----

Like have Jimmy say to Chloe, "Lois and Clark would be great together..." Presto chango, you get the soundbite you want, and Jimmy doesn't sound like an idiot.
lol u r hilarious! i love the city limits part! lol clana is good tho!

It's amazing how TPTB always seem to remember that Jimmy is Chloe's guy, except when he's at a hospital fighting for his life in Star City.

Other lines NOT repeated on SV:

CK: "It's okay, Miss, I've got you."
LL: "Clark?!?"
CK: "No! I'm not Clark! I'm...I'm the Red and Blue Blur!"
LL: "Dude. You're totally Clark."
CK: "Would you stop trying to call me Clark, Lo - I mean, miss? I'm the Blur! The Blur!"
LL: "Clark, you can cut the act. I RECOGNIZE you!"
CK: "Wait...I think I - I know this Clark guy! But I...er, HE...wears glasses. And I don't. See? Definitely not the same guy."
LL: *rolls her eyes at him* "I do remember what you looked like without the glasses, you know? I've known you for years!"
CK: "Well, I guess you're misremembering what he looked like without glasses, then, because he and I look nothing alike."
LL: *sighs* Clark, you started wearing glasses YESTERDAY.

Maybe he can tap her on the forehead and give her convenient amnesia. SV does love its brain trauma. In ALL its characters.

----- Added 2 Minutes later -----

Which reminds me...

Overused line:

"I don't remember..." Said by anyone NOT in the know about Clark's secret after some contrived scene that would NEVER cause amnesia outside of Smallville. Like a sudden onset of hiccups - AMNESIA. Said UNTIL they are in the know with Clark's secret, and then they could be hit in the head with a pickup truck and be unfazed.

My favorites from the early years:

Lex: Trust your/my instincts (Later used by Lana who somewhere along the way stopped speaking above a harsh whisper)

Jonathan Kent: Be careful son, we don't know anything about this guy/lady/person

This is a fun thread! I vote it get moved to the General Discussion Forum to keep it going. :)
