View Full Version : Lana's Training. Her story after Arctic.

I actually really liked seeing her whole training session with Tess's strategy guy? I forget lol.

She was pretty hardcore and my brother actually commented that he had a new found respect for her after seeing all she went through. It really explains her whole new outlook on life and how she withstood that wound in her leg in Bride.

That guy was really making her stronger mentality and physically with the whole feeling sorry for yourself line.

Truth be told I've never been a Lana fan...except for when I thought she actually made a real sacrifice and "left" Clark to fulfill his destiny. So much for that! The whole story arc was such a disappointment in my opinion.

I liked that part when she was forced to put her wrists on the steel. Oh man that looked painful but she did it without screaming at all. I like that she hesitated before he motivated her and said she was holding back.

Crazy how the trainer thought Clark was holding her back!

If anything.. Clark should have been training long and hard in the fortress with Jor-El.. i mean think about it... there are some parallels here.. but Lana actually went thru with the training.. and when that guy said.. "Let him/it go!" to her, so that she can move on and be stronger.. CLARK... the DUMB sissy didn't.. if anything.. he's such a big wimp... Jor-El said something along the same lines.. " your human emotions are your weakness, leave them.."

I actually liked it, plus it pulled together the first scene w/ Clark watching the video.

clark's emotions are what make him superman.

both lana and clark are holding each other back from their destinies and will eventually realize it. probably in the next episode once lana looses her powers.

for a while there i thought the guy was going to make lana try and fetch the pebble from his hand and call her grasshopper. (old tv show reference)

also i thought the whole thing with lana taping her farewell was a little weird. someone sometime back made a point of this. like where in the world did she get a camera to tape herself and how did she leave the hospital so fast? well now we know.

To be honest I wanted to be surprised and shocked when finding out what happened to Lana. But it was the same "I want to protect Clark" "I have to show Lex for the monster he really is" stuff that been going on for three seasons now...

:lol:Loved it.

I liked the training, but just couldn't come to terms with her holding her wrists on the red hot anvil thing. I don't care who you are but if anyone human would have done that their wrists would have melted:lol:

It was very Kung-Fu, like the old series, but I guess she didn't go through it, that would have left a hell of a scar. I don't think I saw any when she wore the sleeveless dress at the wedding.

Complete waste of screen time. I was so happy that Lana was gone and now I have to watch this garbage. Who cares what happened to her after her Dear John video to Clark. why even bring her back? So we can relive 7 seasons of failed clana for four more episodes? I'm really tempted to stop watching until she's really gone. I can't stomach this clana nonsense anymore.

Except the training was NOT effective. He kept telling her she had to do this for herself, to be a better LANA LANG, not to be a better Clark girlfriend, which it seemed to me was her ultimate goal. Pathetic.

The training was a complete, utter, absolute waste. She didn't learn one thing. She didn't do it for herself. She did it so she could bone Clark.

I have to admit that I was a bit torn at first. It just seemed too 'out there' as a closing plot for Lana's character, but then I realized it does makes sense in the context of 'this' story. After being in a Brainiac educed coma which was then quickly followed with an attempted kidnapping and then of course add on everything else that has happened to her character in the span of 8 years...yes, I can definitely see a breaking point within her character where enough is enough. I think that was very symbolic with her cutting off her hair (which was beautifully directed by AM imo - I loved that sequence and the special camera angles/lighting/effects)

So, yes I really did enjoy Lana's training sequence in her desperately trying to be a stronger person or at least try and stop being the victim anymore. It was also well acted and well directed imo.

I would have loved the training and a more mature, grown up version of Lana Lang. However, it felt completely off - like she was doing it for all the wrong reasons and did not learn anything at the end. She has always come across as power hungry, none more so than now. If she really wants to be a hero, she does not have to try to be more powerful than everyone else. She could make a difference as a normal human and help people, save lives, etc. It seems she has an inferiority complex deep down, where she wants to try to be everyone's equal or better than them. So, I think if she really did want to be stronger and the goal was to help the world, then she could have done so, without going all power mad. Basically, I would have loved to have seen a more mature, evolved Lana, without being hungry for power - both literally and figuratively speaking.

I liked flashing back to Lana post-video message...I even liked the surprise Lex/Tess kidnap/escape angle...and I totally get that she's tired of being a victim...but I didn't want it to turn into GI Jane and go into Looney Tunesville the way it did, with the superpowers. That's where they lost me, and suddenly the hatred boiled up. It was a gutsy move for the series, and possibly the wrong one. They should have just kept Lana on an even keel and given her a more graceful exit. That's all we needed to say goodbye.

I have to say, over the years I've disliked Lana and hated the Clana storyline.......but I LOVED this sequence. The trainer demanded that Lana quit being a whiner, and she actually listened and followed his advice. I like the new direction they've taken the character.

As much as I hated Lana in almost every season, after this episode I can now say that this new Season 8 Lana is actually worthy of respect. And her story this episode was *gasp* actually interesting, something that I NEVER expected to be saying about a Lana-centric plot. Kudos to PS3

Maybe someone can explain to me how burning your arms, or lying in a tub of ice cubes, makes you stronger. Burning your arms gives you, well, burns. And the ice bath gives you hypothermia, and maybe a cold.

Seems like fine training for a masochist.

Plus, lifting the hot metal thingie was a direct rip-off from that old David Carradine TV show "Kung Fu". It didn't make any sense back then, either.

I actually had no problem with her wanting to be a stronger person and not a victim anymore, that is very admirable and would have been interesting.

But the choices made as to how she was trained was way over the top, and her becoming a pseudo-Wonder Woman was way, WAY over the top. It was not a good writing decision. I think the idea of her becoming a heroine is well and good and I could have enjoyed it if they didn't take it to the extreme.

Intent? Good. Idea? Good. End Result? Bad.

I know there are a few people that enjoyed this storyline, but I disliked it immensely.

It doesn't make sense to me that Lana would go through all that training and then burn off her skin and get powers...just to be with Clark.

Lana was only "with" Clark for what? One season total? And they spent season seven mostly arguing over her obsession with Lex, and having mistaken real Clark for a phantom. Hardly a good start to a lasting relationship. Then she nearly died because he's hated by plenty of people.

So naturally, since this ordinary relationship was going to work, if not for her being able to die, making her immortal just solves everything.

....whuuuut?!?!

If these two had once demonstrated an ability to share a meal together like a happy couple, or go on a date without it being crazy...I would say "sure, you have future".

It's like that line from Team America. "I. PROMISE. I. Will NEVER. DIE!"

While I think Lana is shopping at Costco for her mega-box of Coco Puffs, you can't blame her for being unbalanced. Hmmmm, let's see if I can review...

A meteor shower kills her parents.
She's had a high school love affair with Whitney, who died.
She's been a vampire.
She's been possessed by a witch.
She's killed and been threatened to be killed.
She discovered her farm-boy school friend who has had an obsessive crush on her is from another planet.
She's received the same powers as farm-boy, if only temporarily.
She married a total whack job.
She thinks becoming a Ninja warrior will solve her ills.
She can't make a latte worth $h!t.

No wonder she's not the cute little girl riding her pony anymore.

Okay, so we have Lana who is what maybe 100 pounds in water just a degree or two above freezing and doesn't go into hypothermia? Come on!

Then the writers want us to believe that Lana Lang picks up with one of the most sensitive areas of the body an anvil that is probably at least 500 - 600 degrees maybe more and doesn't even bat an eyelash!??

Need I say more? I think they would have been better off leaving this to the imagination IMO.

This is why I have never really liked Lana since about season 1. They always make her do stuff that is just unbelievable and laughable. The stuff that she did in 'Power' was psychotic. If she had put herself through that torture because she had been physcially damaged and needed the power suit to stay alive, I could have really got on board with this episode. But to do it to be "equal" (from her POV, not mine) with a man you want to be in a relationship with? That is just crazy.

(all) "Hi, Frank..."

If there's anything I feel strongly about it's the forcing of this arc down our throats and how it completely derailed the path of this season. There were so many bright moments to this season that were leading to Clark becoming what we all know him to be.

Instead, we find out that the Break Up Video was coerced at gunpoint. Lana then bests two armed men and escapes. After her escape, does she call Clark? No. She trains as a Navy SEAL. We see her next in Bride fighting the Green Arrow and still waging her personal war against Lex. Not looking for Clark. Not letting him know that the Break Up Video was false. She is obsessed with stealing power from Lex to become Clark's equal. She experiments on herself to gain superpowers for her own personal development. not for the greater good and not to stop Lex. She wanted those powers for one reason and one reason only. To be Clark's equal. When you look at everything we got in the first 9 episodes and then look at this arc, how can you not be sitting back and scratching your head and saying to your self, "What the @%#*&???"

For the record, I don't hate Lana. I think the way her story ended last season was a dignified exit. She broke it off with Clark by acknowledging that his destiny was bigger than any chance they had at a relationship and she couldn't share him with the world because the world needed him more. Brilliant. Perfect way to end that stage of his life and move on.

Since that time we have seen some really great things on this show:

Clark at the Daily Planet
Clark and Lois getting closer
Doomsday
Lex is indeed alive and still controlling everything
Martian Manhunter
Green Arrow back in town
Dan Turpin
Kara (even if it was only one episode)
Clark using his powers for the greater good

All of that momentum came to a screeching halt when the PS3 decided to create this meaningless plot device and throw it in our faces. It could be any other character and be equally pointless. If it was Jimmy, Shelby, Ben Hubbard or even Alicia it would still be useless screen time and it would have no place in the greater arc of the entire season or the series for that matter.

Clark has regressed. At this point he's no closer to his destiny than he was in season 5. Regardless of what people think about Lana, as far as Clark goes, he just freezes at the mere mention of her name. I'm tried of seeing Clark stagnate and pine over a love that will never be. So that's where my feelings are. I don't hate Lana or even the idea of Lana. I can't stand this pointless and far fetched story line derailing the forward progress of Clark and his path to becoming Superman.

clark's emotions are what make him superman.

both lana and clark are holding each other back from their destinies and will eventually realize it. probably in the next episode once lana looses her powers.

for a while there i thought the guy was going to make lana try and fetch the pebble from his hand and call her grasshopper. (old tv show reference)

also i thought the whole thing with lana taping her farewell was a little weird. someone sometime back made a point of this. like where in the world did she get a camera to tape herself and how did she leave the hospital so fast? well now we know.

When did my thread become a Lana bashing thread?

You had asked about her story after "Artic", which includes the training...so....I gave my opinion. I did think it was ridiculous--over the top.

I wasn't pointing the finger at you but at everyone mocking Lana. I still believe it's obvious that this has become a Lana bashing thread.

Sorry. I just gave my opinion--w/ an added touch of humor.:o
I did want to know what happened to her after "Artic", but I never, in a million years, expected TPTB would take this route.

LOL, I didn't expect that either but I liked it. I think it toughened her up and explains why her views seem different when she came back.

I actually expected something completely different. Well, what I first pictured was alot like the season premiere of last season.

i thought it was over the top. looked like from some kung-fu movie IMO. i dint get the feeling she was really going true the hole training thing. like something was missing. i just cant put my finger on it? it felt fake to me. but thats just me

I thought it was OK, but it could have been better because there were a few loose ends but atleast it made sense!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 'gritty training process' was retarded and played out like a bad western.

Trainer: "I don't think ya got the guts, kid." *spits tobacco juice*
Lana: *whiny voice* "I can too! WHAAA!"

She didn't do it for her self, she did it for Clark. If not, she wouldn't have donned the power suit and got powers, like she already had before.
