Smallville writers please redeem yourselves or this is going to get real ugly... If you can't fix this go ahead and write for 90210, seriously...:\
Actually I'm wondering if the 90210 script accidentally got misplaced with the power script for this season? I really hope it did bcs at least that would mean this episode never happened! But with my luck i highly doubt it :\

Slavkin & Swimmer - superb episode. I am really happy that you guys had the guts to give Clana a few beautiful moments together, & not make 7 1/2 years be for nothing. One thing I see which will NEVER change: Clark & Lana will ALWAYS find their way back to each other, no matter WHAT obstacles they have to face. Somehow, they'll always overcome, because their love is that strong. Thank you SOOOO much for these final 5 episodes with Clana. You guys really came through. Forgive me for doubting you.
I know something is going to keep Clark & Lana apart in Requiem, but that's okay now. I can continue to believe that no matter WHAT it is, someday, somehow, Clark & Lana will be together again.

Overall, I enjoyed the episode. However, one area undermines the quality of the entire episode and potentially Lana's arc. I hated your writing of Clark AT THE END. Furthermore, it was ambiguous whether Lana's morally flawed logic was even being recognized by anybody. Clark should have recognized Lana as a SEVERELY UNHEALTHY PERSON and saw Lana is in denial about her actual, more selfish reasons for lying to everybody, not destroying the technolody, and building the power suit. Instead, you actually had Lana lecture him at the end. It was insane and I'm glad I'm not a child actually watching this twisted version of morality being cheered on by Superman, like a lot of young fans are.
You're mother must be so ashamed of you.

Wow, the writers are doing something wrong in writing an episode that wraps up a character of 7 1/2 years with purpose, strength of character and hopeful possibilities??
I have waited YEARS for them to do justice with the character of Lana, and they finally gave it to her longstanding fans......a Lana willing to endure more hardship to become a stronger more independent person......she was a phoenix rising from the ashes, and I loved it.
There is NOTHING WRONG with that!

Are you kidding me? It's twisted in the same vein as Lex Luthors thirst for power. Lana never felt good enough about herself because of all her bad actions, this action is no different. She is a tragic figure because to an extent she is niave, but she is lying to herself and in denial about her emotional issues that are causing her to obsessively obtain power. She's lying to herself if she believes she is now Clark's equal "because they both have superpowers". She artificially trying to increase her self confidence and it's terribly transparent and misguided.
Clark, or the emerging Superman should no better than to champion and support such a misguided girl.

Shame on Clark for not recognizing this.
And.....the alternative was to allow Lex to have the means by which he would become invincible? She wasn't endangering Clark, just herself and it was made clear with Lana's speech to Tess about her reasoning and turning her power to "GOOD". She went down the dark path once.........she wasn't going to go there again. Her reasons were to use her powers like Clark......for the good of the world......it was made crystal clear.

The alternative was her to destroy all about the Prometheus suit, not to use it herself. But Lana having the suit is but a plot device for the next episode.
Clark is not Superman because of his powers. You have 100,000 Kryptonians on the comics proving that right now.

It's not her power to take. She should have destroyed the technology, but instead she harnessed and used it on herself. I understand she thought she was doing the right thing, but she is trying to be something she's not - an alien with Superpowers. Unfortunately, this is a fatal flaw. She's enhancing herself with superpowers under the ill-conceived notion she needs powers to do good in the world and she thinks she needs them to be Clark's equal. She's judging her "goodness" as a person with physical strength and prowess with the EXCUSE she's doing it for the world. An analogy would be somebody taking steroids and saying, "Don't worry. I'm taking them to make the world a better place because I'll be stronger when I fight crime." It's an unhealthy choice and not a good way to TRULY influence the world with the knowledge and REAL power she COULD have otherwise. Because she chooses the suit and all it represents, she is a tragic character.

I know I hardly post here...but they really aren't wrapping it up. I have waited years for this boy to grow up and be a man.
I don't see that Lana endured a hardship at all. She was on a mission once she left that van. A mission to be like Clark and get revenge on Lex. She wanted to be powerful and invulnerable and quite frankly it was creepy. She didn't become independent...she went straight to Clark after she got her powers to show him what she could do. Why didn't she say good bye and be independent and save the world herself seperate from Clark. What happened to the Lana that was saying, "The world needs you more." She is gone...Now she needs him and now they can save the world together. She is not stronger morally. That fact that she would stoop that low to get what she wanted was horrible. She is only stronger in the physical sense.
This is my opinion as you have yours. But I just don't see it that way. This is how I see it. As far as the writing goes it was a miss. I wish they would have done it better. As for the the season, well this arc just blew it for me.

Since this thread pertains to the writing aspect of this episode and arc, this is a copy of what I posted in the Open Letter to PS3 this morning.
Dear PS3,
I would like to add how utterly disgusted I am with this arc. You take the legendary love that is Superman and Lois Lane and crap all over it like this? It's astonishing to say the least what the writing 'team' has done to the legacy of Clark Kent and Lois Lane here on SV.
The writers should have had the guts to say that "Clark Kent/Superman is the end all be all on this show not Lana Lang!" Shame on anyone who backed this storyline and contributed to it.
I too want to second the notion to please keep Lois Lane's integrity in tact and do not have her be Clark's rebound girl. Lois Lane and Clark Kent are too good for that.
Not only 'how could you', BUT HOW DARE YOU???
I will add that all of Clark's scenes in this episode could have been copied and pasted from previous seasons. There was nothing fresh, new or exciting to watch in his character last night. It's a very sad day for real Superman fans.
The only writing worth mentioning in a positive light was that of Tess' character. She is the only thing that saved this episode for me.
The writing to me has been horrendous to say the least since Bride. Not only is this storyline far fetched and over exaggerated, it is a slap in the face to the loyal viewers who finally thought they were getting Superman on this show.

No, CHLARK fans know what we're going through right now. I'm sorry, but Clana fans don't. The show has always pandered to Clana and put Lana above everything. The ending of Clana should not have been at Clark's expense. I'm sorry, but it just shouldn't.
The point is that Clark/Lana do not have that kind of story. I don't blame Clana fans for being happy with the ending. Were I a Clana fan, I would be happy, too.
But don't expect that the rest of the SV-fans (particularly those who feel love for the original source material) to be happy that SV fan-wanked it this way.

here is a example of why people are saying the show is terrible...they hate that Lana is garnering the attention and not one of their precious characters on the show!I for one would love the storyline if it were Chloe or Lois in place of Lana.the problem for me is if it were Chloe or Lois getting this kind of attention as the new hero there would have been people jumping on here saying it was the best story arc Smallville ever produced! its a shame too, because Lana will be gone from the show soon and yet so called Smallville fans seem happy about it.I for one will miss her,as I have missed all the other characters who have left the show.:(

And yet they did write this episode with lana, so it's unfair and unrealistic to gauge a reaction to an imaginary episode that had chloe or lois in lana's position. Not to mention these actions are very much out of charachter for both chloe and lois, not the case for lana she's always been power hungry and insecure.

So, did they save their SFX budget up especially for POWER and REQUIEM? I mean, Clark used his x-ray vision twice and his super hearing, all in one episode. Not to mention Lana's glass coffin breakout and orange trail. And the next episode looks like more of the same only with both doing these things together. They probably won't have hardly anything left for the rest of the season.:(

The alternative was her to destroy all about the Prometheus suit, not to use it herself. But Lana having the suit is but a plot device for the next episode.
Clark is not Superman because of his powers. You have 100,000 Kryptonians on the comics proving that right now.
Good of the world? Hell is paved with good intentions. Invoking the Godwin's Law, Hitler also thought he was doing the good for the world.

And yet they did write this episode with lana, so it's unfair and unrealistic to gauge a reaction to an imaginary episode that had chloe or lois in lana's position. Not to mention these actions are very much out of charachter for both chloe and lois, not the case for lana she's always been power hungry and insecure.
it would not be imaginary at all....I could clearly see that it would be a different reaction to the storyline if it were Chloe or Lois in place of Lana...I am not a shipper so I can make this assumption unbiased.:\

Everyone....look...the last scene of "Power" when Clark is kissing Lana.....if you look real close you can see the shark jumping.....
You don't have to look really close, the bloody think takes off half the screen. The big neon sign under it saying "Jumping the shark" helps too

I don't think it's proper to bash on the writers just for one episode.
I wasn't crazy about Power either but I still have faith in PS3.They just want to conclude the Lana story-arc in a sweet way that's all.
Besides.. she's leaving next week.Yayy!
Slavkin and Swimmer still remain to be my favourite writing duo!

I second that! :)
Him and Geoff Jones!! Bulletproof was a good episode... I still believe the Clana kiss was added at the end solely for KK's arc.... I'm sure if he would have had it his way he would have cut it out himself.... And the same goes for Jones.... Legion didn't even need Lana there.... It would have been perfect without her!

Thank you SOOOO much.
The thing is, most of us agree that the message that is being sent is what you wrote. The problem is most of the fans of Smallville see this as a destruction of the Superman story: Who he is as a person, and his relationship with his future wife. So, I don't think you'll find many arguing that this episode left the impression that Clark and Lana are soulmates. I think most of us agree on that, unfortunately.

I loved "Bulletproof".... so, yes, I would be happy with Miller writing every single episode of SV from now on.
In fact, I'd like to remove PS3 completely and just have Miller be the executive producer.
Me too, me too!!! And then they can hire me, and I'll set everything right!!!:)

The right choice, and therefore the hard choice, would have been to destroy the suit and the technology. The episode actually made that clear, although I'm not sure that was their intent. Tess did the right thing, but for the wrong reasons. She was going to destroy the suit so that Lex couldn't use it, which would have been a wise choice even though she was doing it to spite Lex. Lana made the wrong choice, and therefore the easy choice, which was to take the powers and harness them herself, thinking she alone has the wisdom to wield the powers that no human was meant to have. By choosing this, and voicing her opinion over and over that she must obtain power and invincibility to save the world, she was putting down every other human hero that uses their own power to save others. She came off looking power hungry and selfish, but it seems like the writers wanted us to see her as the hero, so that alone makes the writing fail.

Just thought of something while reading this bit of your post...
What if their intention WAS to make her come of as a deranged power-hungry loony psychotic obsessed person? (too many adjectives?)
OFC, the episode would still be a fail, because if this is the case Clark is not only an idiot, he's a blind idiot who can't seem to realize that his ex belongs in the loony bin.
Oh well...

the funny thing is, bno one can possible come out of this mess looking good.
Clark jumps from one girl to another (Not good)
Lana, for whatever reason leaves and soon Clark forgets her and is out there chasing someone else.
Lois will look like a second option.
Clana may deserve decent closure after 7years, but not like this. If your passion for someone is only alive when they around you, that is not great. Peeps that love clana will feel even worse after next week cuz...lana for all her wonderful arc will not be touched on again.

I think that, technically, the episode was well written, it's part of a five episode arc and flasbacks and current time flowed beautifully. I reserve my opinion about Lana's story until the arc ends. Because the way they built up her current story, I know it won't end well and that we'll see the finall fall of Lana lang in Requiem. The title's name is not a coincidence.
Like Timester said, hell is paved with good intentions. Lana is trying to fly so high that her wings will finally burn. Remember, the higher you go, the harder you fall.

It's just unbelievable how bad this episode was. Lana has to be one of the worst written characters in the history of television. I couldn't believe what I was watching. All that nonsense about her getting trained. And then her and the magical suit!!! What for? What is the point of all this!?

Todd and Darren, Melrose Place is calling. I'm sure this trite soap-opera-ish writing will be a huge hit over there. I wish you the same good wishes you obviously have for so many of us SV viewers.

At first the writer's of this episode upset me. But now after having time to think about it I want to thank them...I want to thank them from keeping that stuck-in-teensville Clark away from Lois. She needs someone more mature and that wants her. Which, let's be honest, won't be too difficult for her to get. So if that was what this episode was meant achieve it was indeed successful.
here is a example of why people are saying the show is terrible...they hate that Lana is garnering the attention and not one of their precious characters on the show!I for one would love the storyline if it were Chloe or Lois in place of Lana.the problem for me is if it were Chloe or Lois getting this kind of attention as the new hero there would have been people jumping on here saying it was the best story arc Smallville ever produced! its a shame too, because Lana will be gone from the show soon and yet so called Smallville fans seem happy about it.I for one will miss her,as I have missed all the other characters who have left the show.:(
In my case, you're wrong. I would have had no problem with Lana getting this 4 episode focus if it made sense within the context of the story narrative. In fact, I didn't mind her in "Bulletproof".
The problem is not that she or Clana are getting closure. The problem is HOW they're getting closure -- they're getting at the expense of every single character on the show, other than Lana. Clark Kent, Lois Lane, Chloe Sullivan, etc.... their characters' development is suffering because TPTB are too busy pandering to Lana's character in this arc.
And, honestly? If LOIS was given this story? I'd hate her. I have no problem walking away from Clois when it doesn't work & I'd have no problem hating Lois if she was dumb enough to put on a power suit and decide that she was going to be a superheroine so she could be Clark's equal.

:) Isn't Melrose the show where none of the characters have strong morals?
Why don't they just change the name of "Smallville" to "Melrose Place". Save us all the confusion.

Wow, the writers are doing something wrong in writing an episode that wraps up a character of 7 1/2 years with purpose, strength of character and hopeful possibilities??
Thank you Todd and Darren.........a grateful Lana fan!No not "wrong," however it would've been better had they written Lana's ending arc as something original rather than creating their rendition of Uma Thurman's "Kill Bill..."
i believe that was severly we-taw-ded of them....

And that's the POINT... the very fact that Clana fans can now think that Clark & Lana are destined to be together forever (and I don't blame you) is WHY this episode was absolute crap.
Memo to PS3: When Clana fans are celebrating 1 episode before Lana Lang leaves for good? YOU'RE DOING SOMETHING WRONG!!!
we are still celebrating... clana love is eternal :D

YES WE ARE!
Nothing like long time showrunner/writers/producers showing their Lana/Clana love and giving her a new path to walk that isn't just as "Superman's girlfriend". Lana has always been iconic because she hasn't had it come easy to her and to see her empower herself has been quite the reward from her humble beginnings in Pliot. The power suit (like many other heroes like Batman and Ironman) is just a tool she can use to make good in the world, where Lex would have used it as a weapon to hurt Clark and take over the world. Lana did the right thing, even if would later come inbetween her and Clark in Requiem. But as been proven already by TPTB kyptonite can be neutralized and even when its green Clark can still steal a kiss from Lana.
Power was the higest tribute to Lana and how much she means to Clark. A kiss like the one on top of the iconic and golden Daily Planet makes us very happy to be with them at the top of the world and winning gold.
