View Full Version : Which FOTW should return in Season 8?

Hey, random question for all you Smallville all-stars out there who have seen or are at least relatively familiar with all eight seasons...

One could argue that the FOTW (Freak of the Week) element of Smallville ran its course and was rather annoying (or really aggravating) when it was overused, but one can't deny that the creators of Smallville did create some memorable and pretty creative meteor freaks that I'll bet many of you have wished would appear again, even for one episode.

So, which character in my poll would you most like to see make a comeback, whether as part of Tess's Injustice League, as a one-time baddie, or maybe even as a reformed character who'd end up helping Clark? Name your pick (or picks) and tell how you'd use them if they returned to the show. You can put down another option if you don't like any of the choices I gave you.

Happy posting!

The three Freaks from my list that I would most want to reappear would be the following:

1) Eric Summers - He was a cool villain who found a way to swipe Clark's powers, but it'd be neat if they were able to transform him more into the traditional Superman villain "Parasite," or something similar to that. Plus, it'd just be fun to have both Shawn and Aaron Ashmore on one show, and the funny dialogue that could result (i.e. Chloe: "Why do you look so much like my husband?!").

2) Emily Dinsmore - I just think her power set was so cool, especially when they enabled her to pass through solid objects. She was so mentally unstable, and became that much more dangerous and unpredictable when they added the intangibility to her super-speed. She could be one of the most deadly villains Clark could face, and she comes without a conscience.

3) Mikhail Mxyzptlk - I know lots of people didn't like that he was nothing like his comic book counterpart, but he was a rather cool and interesting character who really wasn't completely "bad." It'd be fun for Clark to run into him again while he's way over his head in some kind of organized crime/gambling thing, and ends up becoming brief allies with Clark.

*sigh* I wish they could bring Ryan James back, too, but there's no chance of that, unless maybe they did a continuity retcon and said that he really DIDN'T die in that hospital and was put in cryogenic stasis by Lex until they developed a cure. Then Tess found him and resuscitated him, or the Justice League did when they destroyed one of the 33.1 labs and didn't know who he was until they were able to bring him out of his stasis. Yeah, that would be cool, actually... I smell a fanfic...

I'd love to know how Maddie from Fragile is doing. She brought out the best in Clark.

Alicia is dead too, so they couldn't bring either her or Ryan back. Although, my vote would have been Ryan if they could have brought him back.

I'd like to see Mikhail Mxyzptlk again. And I believe there's more of him in the comics, so maybe it is a possibility!! :D

Yeah, he, Ian Randall, and Van McNulty were in Belle Reeve during Asylum. Lex was also there at the time and they got Clark there to get revenge for him putting them there. Eric took Clark's powers again like he did before, and turned on Ian and Van killing them. He is still there in Belle Reeve.

I'm pretty sure that's what happened, if I remember right. Have to pull out the DVDs to make sure.

Kyle Tippet was awesome. He could definetly push Clark to become more of a hero like he did before.

Kyle would be great as a random person he runs into and they have a chat about the past and stuff (in kind of a Buffy, 'Conversations with dead people' way)

Mikhail would fit pretty well in Tess band of villains don't you think?

Jeremy would be a nice nod to the fans, if they simply had him in there without even saying who he was... like if in the last episode we see Clark flying through the city and people are looking up at him, and one of them is Jeremy or something like that, you get the idea

Eric Summers. I think it would be interesting b/c he is played by AA's bro. Oh, the fun the writers could have w/that.

You guys have some great ideas -- it just shows us what a great background of guest stars and past minor characters/villains Smallville can draw from if they want to. It's also a nice nod to continuity to do that occasionally.

I couldn't think of the girl's name from "Fragile," which is the main reason why I didn't put her on the poll, but she was a very cool character, and I loved her friendship width Clark, so she would be a nice one to make a reappearance.

I know Alicia's dead, but she was so popular in her time, and still is to many fans, which is why I put her. I figured maybe they could say she was cloned or somehow resuscitated in some random sci-fi way, which wouldn't be the first time it's happened to a character on this show.

RE: Eric Summers, that would be fun, The Dark Knight74. Though I don't remember him killing Ian Randall... I'm pretty sure Ian killed Van McNulty with a set of weights, but if Ian was killed, I just can't remember it, not that I'd mind; he was one of the FOTWs that rather annoyed me, and not just 'cause he two-timed Lana and Chloe.

Finally, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who misses Ryan James. He was such a great young actor. The relationship between him and Clark had such a neat big brother-little brother vibe, and he had a ton of potential, IMHO. I wish they'd given him a story ARC in Season 2, of maybe 5 episodes or so, rather than just bring him back and kill him off in the one. Though at least he GOT a return episode, unlike many other popular characters.

Again, great comments, everyone; keep 'em coming!

Yeah, when Eric stole Clark's powers again, he threw Ian into the generator that they used for the electricity to transfer Clark's power. So he killed both Van and Ian. And I agree, Ian really annoyed me too, just like the other FOTW that became yet another love interest for Lana like the bug boy or the guy that had magnatism and used it to control Lana. He just got to be involved with both Lana and Chloe.

Bug Boy from "Metamorphasis," Eric Summers, Kyle Tippet, Mikhail, the guy from "Blank," the blind guy from "Freak" (Tobias, maybe?), Linda Lake, Bette, Jeremy Creek... I'm sure that there are more I would like to see again if I rewatched the series.

It would be pretty cool to bring back old FOTWs, as long as they can get the same actors.
