Saw what? The Superman in this episode? I saw a lot of speeches and envy and lessons learned. If you mean the way Clark inspires, then yeah, I saw that. But other than the sniper scene, I wasn't really impressed. That's not to say I didn't enjoy the episode. I did, but it pretty much matched what I've come to expect from a season 8 ep. So I wasn't very surprised. In terms of the Superman factor, Bulletproof doesn't quite reach the level of Identity for me, but it was up there.

not really like superman, i don't know how anyone can say clark kent is alot like superman or superman is here. Superman is by far not here, if clark was more like Kal-El then superman would be here, superman would've been here years ago.
The red in the scope, how do you get superman from that? Clark always wears his red coat and periodically wears the dark blue one. The guy was taking shots at G.A and Danny with a friggen sniper rifle, after he reloaded and went to look in the scope to take another shot all you see was red, thats obvious considering the scope is zoomed in...i don't see this a superman moment at all.
Clark goes undercover all the time as clark kent working for the DP, like he said he can keep close to all the action, in a way he's doing his own P.I to keep tabs on crime or who may need his help. Clark will be closer to superman, when he starts teaming up with G.A, when he wears a costume (not neccesarily the superman outfit, but if smallville designed there own proto-type, i think it could look excellent). If clark started to fly, or at least hover, if clark stopped thinking about doing things and just doing them, or if he would just get over lana, ect....theres lots of other ways they could show clark becoming more like superman, this ep was alright but for me this episode wasn't that exciting.

He talked about Lois for the first time in this episode. The episode ended before the kiss had quite, but the reactions from both Clark and Lana during the kiss were a bit ambiguous. I'm wondering if he kissed her and realized that magic just was not there anymore. His heart is now elsewhere.

That's exactly what I have been thinking will happen. Last night, after the ep, I wondered about his feelings for Lois.
It's obvious there is an attraction there, but I don't think his feelings for her are strong yet. And he still hasn't had any closure with Lana so it's only natural for his feelings for her to take over so easily.
I'm kind of hoping that in the end, it is Lana that wants Clark back, but he wants to move on. And, also in the end, Clark is falling for Lois as much as she is falling for him.

I agree, and its also why i think I dont see much Superman in Clark. He still learning too much.Everyone still has to tell him how things should be,and what he should be doing(ex.Lana and Olie). He doesnt figure too much out on his own. IMO

How you got all that from my post, I've no clue
Clark should be at least in his mid twenties before he becomes Superman, so he is technically further into the transition than he should be. And even after he becomes Superman, he will still have a lot to learn.

I saw a lot of Superman in Clark. He's still getting there, but I think they really did show him on his way to becoming Superman.
I think his looking for the best in Danny, being proactive to investigate MM's shooting, and the fact that he is starting to realize that it's important for a hero to have set in stone rules that he follows, and realizing that he can't be seperate from the ones he loves are ALL Supermanly qualities.
Was he fully Superman in this episode? No, but he sure as heck is getting there and fast.

Well, the thing is... how else would he learn everything he should if his peers don't help him with some of it? I agree that Clark should know many things by now, but he has to learn them at some point. And Smallville is great at showing us those points at which he learns these things that the Superman of today already knows.

I agree,as i said im still new! I guess what im trying to get at is,i know friends will help, but i would like to see more of him learning on his own.You know, instead of the constant "all of this happened because of me",and then someone having to explain whats really going on.
And with that i will stop, before i start to make even less sense.Sometimes its hard to type what's in your head and have it still make sense!

You're making perfect sense. And I do agree with you that Clark should have to learn some things on his own. He did a good job with his investigative work last night, but he still went to Chloe for help. And I wish he hadn't. One of the most important things the writers are going to have to do before series end is prove to it's audience that Clark can do things on his own, every time. I already think he can, he's done it before, but we need to see him without a sidekick, working on his own, when this show is over.

It actually struck me in this episode that Clark really pretty much IS Superman at this point. Not necessarily in his character development/personality/superintelligence/etc, but he's got an alternate identity, complete with its own set of clothing, that's known to have superpowers and goes around saving the day. And then he's got his Clark persona that's a reporter at the daily planet and works to solve crime from the human angle. Whether you call it Superman or the Red and Blue Blur, it's essentially the same thing. I thought that was pretty cool.
That is NOT to say that I think he's there in terms of intellgence, personality, or just generally having figured things out, because I really don't like the way his character has been going this season.

Welcome to K-site, Nicole!!
And you both have great points.
I think we are moving towards the more independent Clark in a lot of ways. Yes, he went to Chloe early in the episode, but mostly she just supplied him with a false identity to get him on the force. From there, he did a lot himself.
And I think in Legion, he was pretty proactive as well, and even went so far as to show the Legion how it's done. Yes, he had a moment of self doubt which I didn't love, but for the most part, he was showing us shades of the future Superman.

Hi Nicole, Im new as well and I totally agree with your comments. Until Clark can stand on his own two feet, he won't be Superman

As far as dual identity goes, clark has always had this from the beginning. He's always had to play the role of someone he's not to hide who he really his, which is his real identity. The only difference now, is he works at the DP, and when he fights crime he usually changes into his standard red coat/jeans outfit, but i don't see that as a dual identity. Its common sense he's gonnna change from his work clothes into what he feels comfortable in. Your talking about a farm boy, clark probably feels much more relaxed in jeans, t-shirt and red coat, then being dress pants, shirt/tie.
For him to be superman like, he's get over lana, be more proactive, take Ollies advice, and not have his friends repeat the same advice over and over again. Be like Kal-El from many seasons ago, except with compassion, love for others, like clark is now. Then he'll be much more like superman.
As far as being complete, he won't fully be supes, until he goes to complete his training with Jor-El, then comes back to Metropolis as superman. Clark does have some superman like moments, but if Ollie is still telling clark he's not doing his part, he's got a ways to go, and times running out.

Frankly, aside from aliens, meteor infected individuals and Lex's experiments, I have been waiting for just an episode where Clark becomes one of us and somehow influences an average individual to make the "right" choices, even when they aren't easy. He challenged someone and that person responded in a way that Clark saw his influence, maybe in a way he had never seen before. Everday people. Isn't that what Clark writes about at the DP.....how we need to conduct ourselves everyday. How we need to help our communities and help each other?
Clark saw this first hand...average people balancing even dangerous jobs. I saw a glimpse of this Clark when Clark was talking to Jonathan about Whitney's death....how Whitney's skin wasn't bulletproof but he was fighting for them. Clark mentioned the Bulletproof vest and told Danny that he was wearing one.....when in fact he wasn't.....Clark realized what a Police Officer deals with every day and his family everyday. I think Clark fully understood the risks and the importance of looking out for each other too, even though you don't have super abilities or super weapons....but just each other. All of theses are Superman themes......and I thought this was a very real opportunity to show Clark's Human side that will be the foundation to his Superhuman side.
I liked it.......sometimes LESS is MORE!
