If this already has a thread or has been discussed at length elsewhere, then I request that the mods delete this thread (if they see fit to do so).
Anyway, only one aspect of the episode REALLY annoyed me.......it was Imra's quote of "Lana, you're part of the reason Kal-El becomes the hero we look up to."
I'll admit, I don't like the implication that Clark needs Lana to become Superman. She has done nothing to contribute to his development..........she has played in active role in his regression! It should have been something like "Chloe Sullivan was the major influence that led Kal-El to become The Man of Steel." That would have made much more sense. Lana is not really relevant to his adulthood, she's just a childhood sweetheart, unfortunately she's seen as an infallible goddess in the show and her being the reason for Clark's future career as a superhero seems rather awkward. Can you picture that conversation going down?
LANA: I, the goddess of Smallville, hearby DEMAND you become a super awesome...................superhero dude!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
CLARK: Oh, uh, d-do I get a choice in the matter? I just want to be normal.
LANA: NO! I'm vital to your development, without me you are nothing, only a whiney BDA!!!! YOU WILL OBEY ME!!!!!
CLARK: Oh Lana, anything for you! Can I choose the costume colors and my own codename?
LANA: NO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! !!!!!!!!!!!!!!! You have no will gumption of your own, not while I am in your pathetic life!!!!!!!
See how Clark would come out in that?
I think that should be a choice he should make on his own, for the good of humanity, not for Lana Lang!!!!
