i watched the 3 hour special today they had on wednesday and they had all those pop ups saying how some of the flashforwards took place 3 years later and stuff. im wondering if since the pilot episode aired on the day the plane crashed will the final episode wind up being in 2010? the timeline is so confusing. lol

There are basically 3 or 4 different timelines.

Flashback timeline: These can vary a lot. The furthest it has ever gone back is to when John Locke was born. There's really not a whole lot we can do to put this together.

Island timeline: This is very well documented. Since the plane crashed on September 22, 2004 it has been 108 days, meaning when the finale aired it was roughly, Jan. 7, 2005.

Off island timeline: It took a week for the oceanic 6 to get their story straight and be rescued, so roughly Jan. 14, 2005 they were rescued. In the season 3 finale, the newspaper that read of Jeremy Benthem's obituary read April, 2007. So when the premire comes, it should still be in April.

The new season timeline: Where the island went to and the time travel is supposed to be big this season so this season's timeline is defentilly gonna get messed up.

ya the timeline drives me nuts cause it keeps jumping and now it seems the island and the 6 will be in real time but real time is in a different timeline lol. ouch my head.

thanks for the break down. :D

im wondering if some of those flashbacks like when locke was young were really flashforwards since richard was around a lot in weird years.

Well thats the good thing with getting to watch the Scf-fi re-runs (for those who do not have the DVD's...like me) is that you get a better sense of what timeline these flashfowards fall into...plus seeing and hearing some things you missed. Its funny that one can watch the program when it first airs....then rewatch it again at some point in the future and go " Damn! how did i miss that?!?!"

I love the easter eggs that they put in the show. My favorite being that the first thing Jack sees on the island is the monster. It really adds to re-watching these episodes to see what was a major clue but you didn't get it at first.

ya i notice things a lot too and am like oh ya that did happen before this other thing happened. but still gets confusing lol. will be fun when the series is completely over and you watch them back to back. i would like it if sci fi did like timeline centric marathons. like broke everything down and created new episodes. like just air all the island stuff back to back without flashbacks and flash forwards and then air all flashbacks for each character together and then flashforwards peiced together. it would make the show like brand new lol. of course doing that would take a lot of work and the series would air for another 6 yearslol.
