View Full Version : Clark's Powers (sans Flight) -- WTF??

I'm with everyone that the original "No Tights, No Flights" rule is long past outdated, (though I loved Lightning Lad's snarky reference to it this ep.), but now I'm pretty much used to the whole deal -- it's actually a big part of what makes "Smallville" different from any iteration of Superman out there. That said, it's Clark's deficiency in the use of his other powers that's still got me irked. Let's face it: "Smallville's" Clark, overall, is a pretty lame hero to begin with -- a big pushover who doesn't learn from his mistakes and whose distorted sense of morality and humanity really gets in the way of his being a (super)hero time after time; his lack of flight really just compounds his lameness, overall. The fact that he never uses the full array of his powers on his foes (the Doomsday choke scene in "Bride" quickly comes to mind -- nothing a little heat vision/windy breath wouldn't have fixed) is really what's maddening, though. OK, so he can't fly. Cool. But it would be nice if he'd STOP trying to get out of jams the same way he did in Season 1 or 2by relying on his environment or his to somehow bail him out indirectly, a la James Bond or Jason Bourne. With all of his powers, he should be taking it to his foes like in the comics and, to a lesser extent, the movies! If anything, he should be learning how to hold back from using his powers -- not how to put the hammer down! Why didn't he take it to Chloiac after she tossed him across the Fortress? Her superspeed and strength should have clued him in that she had powers similar to his and needed to be stopped, but of course, he's too dumb to pick up on that (even after similar experiences over the years with "altered" humans - from Lex, to Lana, to Lois/Faora). With the arrival of Doomsday, I fully expect mad violence and mayhem to ensue -- from Davis' other side. Clark? I'm not so sure. And that bugs me, because the powers are reallly why I watch this show in the first place. But maybe it's just me.
