After this episode when Clark definitly learns he will be able to fly do you think it will kickstart his will to archieve this before this season ends?

O God I hope that he begins flying soon. They had 3 Legions members flying in this episode and I sure it did not send the SF budget thru the roof.

A big blue blur in the sky and Clark flying when the need arises is all I ask for.

It would make him more Superman-like and less like a BDA because after all these years he still can't fly and doesn't
even attempt to.

Please Clark jump off a tall building or cliff and see what you can do. You can't get hurt.

if theres a season 9 then he will make baby hops they need him to progress
but if this is the ending season than yes he will FLY!!!

There was this quote in the end of `LegionŽ when Clark got the ring. The ring is set only for timetravel, but not for flight, and he said "not yet"...

I think this was a message directly from TPTB. But I still hope to see him fly before the end of this season! And I mean real flight, not leaping tall buildings in a single bound! You heard me, TPTB? :p

I think in the last episode of the season it will zoom out to a picture of his farm and Clark will fly past the screen.

They'll never let him fly...DC and WB won't let it happen.

There are two reasons why I am bugged Clark hasn't flown yet.

1) The timeline is out of whack. He started working at the DP with Lois Lane before he knows how to fly? The norm to my understanding, was that in every other version of the story Clark always flew by the time he was 18. He is 23 now and still can't fly?

2) We have seen so many people fly on the show by now, and not Clark himself. I could understand the "no flights" rule when Clark was the only one that could fly. But, they obviously have the budget and effects to let characters fly on the show, so why still make the rule apply to Clark and no one else?

Talking about flight is cool and everything. But sooner or later, people are going to want to see it happen. Unfortunately, I don't think it will happen this season.

That would suck. Just as they did with Bizzaro and Kara. I don't want to wait 8yrs for a 2 second glimpse. Hog wash

Flight is not something the writers are having a problem integrating. For some reason they just dont wanna put it in. There is no progression they are following. They just dont want to give him flight.

But, they obviously have the budget and effects to let characters fly on the show, so why still make the rule apply to Clark and no one else?I think it's because WB, CW, and the PS3 team are probably scared of the show becoming a glaring rehash of either "Superboy" or "Lois & Clark". Flight is essentially the defining type of Superman's powers, so the moment he starts flying full-time I think TPTB fear it won't be "Smallville" anymore.

Personally, I was hoping Clark would've chased after Kara & Brainiac at the end of "Veritas" and take to the air. :(

Man, don't even get me started on Veritas. The CW's description specifically said "Kara teaches Clark how to fly". Talk about false advertising.

I'm still thinking thats part of the series finale. Maybe he has to go to the FOS and complete his training before he can fly?

I hope so. I hate how they keep making references to how he can't fly. The "Legion" reference to his perpetual grounding has made it seem like they are taunting the fans who want to see lift off.

Just for the record (though I don't believe this counts), Clark did fly already when he was the red Kryptonite crazed Kal.

I get the feeling we will see Clark finally fly in the very last episode of the show. For some reason, I've always pictured a scene where we will see a blur in the sky and then Clark standing in the DP rooftop or something with Lois looking up to the sky. So, basically, we won't actually see him fly, but it will be hinted that he does.

I hope he will fly too. And if it happens it shall probably in the last episode. But if he doesn't fly that wouldn't surprise me either. Just like the term "Superman" is never heard or used on the show TPTB seem reluctant to have Clark take flight.

I don't know, I don't believe we're just gonna see an episode where Clark is up there with the birds. Think he needs incentive. That lately looks more and more like Chloe, her death being. Maybe when they bring back Lex we'll see the flight, but until there's more plot, I really don't know.

With the way they're building up to Clark's ability to fly, especially with Legion, I will be very shocked if Clark doesn't fly (or at least give a good attempt) by this season's end.

It would be nice to see him

Well I think it is about time for Clark to start flying. We've endured for 8 seasons Clark superspeeding everywhere. Countless OTHER heroes/villains flying all over the place. The last time I recall, the show is about him maturing from a young Clark Kent,to becoming Superman. He's all grown up now people! How about a little "up up and away" action WB! :D

i dont see why they would keep him grounded! millar and gough were the ones with that stupid rule to begin with and thank baby jesus they are GONE! at this point ,to keep him on the ground just makes the show look like they dont have anything else up their sleeve for a real plot twist.

He knows that flight is within his skill set, he just doesn't know how to do it yet. But he knows based on a) Kara flying b) Jor-el flying in the flashback scene c) Zod flying (in Lex's vessel) and d) what the Legion said. So since he knows, I just don't understand why there haven't been any scenes showing him trying to hone that skill. They've shown him developing his hearing and heat vision, there could be some good (and funny) scenes showing him at least making the attempt to develop his flight. Yet it always seems to be the furthest thing from Clark's mind.

They'll never let him fly...DC and WB won't let it happen.

It isn't the "flights" they're putting a taboo on, it's more specifically the "tights", to the point where PS3 aren't sure if they'll get to sneak 'em into the series finale. Also, it's not the DC people that're putting that enforcement on Smallville, but the WB's movie people whom are being paranoid that having the "suit" would somehow hurt their chances for a reboot. Which, yes, is ridiculous.

Just for the record (though I don't believe this counts), Clark did fly already when he was the red Kryptonite crazed Kal.

If you're referring to Season 6's "Crimson" (and not "Crusade" as Ryan may think you are), that was a Super Jump, as indicated by Clark aiming for Oliver's apartment, hence Lois' "Leap tall buildings in a single bound" statement and why no type of 'big deal' was made out of it like the "Metamorphosis", "Tempest"/"Vortex", "Rosetta", and "Crusade" flights. Aside from those mentioned 'easter-eggs', everything else has been either a Super Jump (which he's been capable of doing since "Lucy") or "falling with style". Here's hoping it comes soon, as Ryan's right, "Veritas" was some BS false advertising. Yes, Clark will technically be 23 by this season's last couple eps, it really is beyond ridiculous at this point.

He knows that flight is within his skill set, he just doesn't know how to do it yet. But he knows based on a) Kara flying b) Jor-el flying in the flashback scene c) Zod flying (in Lex's vessel) and d) what the Legion said. They've shown him developing his hearing and heat vision, there could be some good (and funny) scenes showing him at least making the attempt to develop his flight. Yet it always seems to be the furthest thing from Clark's mind.

Plus the very fact that Clark himself flew in "Crusade", the Krypto brainwash-gearing of Jor-El's notwithstanding, among other small moments in eps I mentioned above. With Clark in Smallville, I'd say flight has arguable been the most gradual and subtle of evolutions. "Legion" definitely seemed to be a kick in his farm-boy rear that the time has long past, even more-so than Chloe or Kara's ridin' on him around the start of Season 7.

Something will happen AGAIN that will prevent Clark from training. And this time there's no Lana to blame.

i don't think he needs to fly now. Why do we need him to fly. I'd rather a see another power develop like mind reading or super spinning.

Kuzz
01-21-2009, 08:34 AM
Firstly what are you talking about mind reading since when has 'Superman' ever been able to mind read? lol....

Secondly i do not think that he will fly this season infact i do not think he will fly until the very last episode of the last season which apparently could be season 9 or 10? The reason i think this is because it would make the last episode ever be the best ever with him flying and although they gave you tiny little things like in the first season when he woke up floating above his bed and when he was 'kal-el' in season 4 episode 1 he was flying they still will not let him fly till the end i think.

Also when it comes down to it they said at the beginning of smallville in 2002 that there was a 'No fly no tights rule' Well i think last year they said that rule may be broken so i definatly think they will make him fly but like a said i hope that they do it on the last episode ever and make it good with some good ass graphics and affects not how it looks when Kara aka 'Super Girl' flies and stuff.

Well thats my long opinion on it all! :)

For the record Smallville season 1 was 2001 to 2002.
As for flying, like his other superpowers, he would not have to fly every episode, just when it was need it.
When Ollie was poisoned and Tess said that the antidote was in Brazil. How did Clark get it and bring it back?
Did Clark run all the way to Brazil and back? Did he jump over the Panama Canal?
All I'm saying is when the occasion arises let him fly. Even if it's off screen. Surely there is a way of showing Clark flying without TW being wired up or breaking the show's budget.

I want him too, but they don't necessarily have to let him. Smallville is about Clark Kent the man who becomes Superman, they could end the series with no costume and no flying. They should give us something though. I know they listen to some of the stuff we say, hopefully this is one of them. But if he does fly and he's already in Metroplois most of the time I don't see why they need season 9 he's basically Superman then. But I enjoy the show so much I want to have my cake and eat it too. So give me a little flying this season and knock my socks off for season 9!!!!

Clark not flying doesn't really bother me. We knew from the beginning the "NFNT" rule of TPTB. The episode in which he did fly Swan's assistant - old Lois - stated that Clark has fully accepted his Kryptonian heritage or something to that effect, and that only happened after some mental rebooting from Jor-El.

I think Clark will only be able to fly after he receives his training in the FOS. That's the only way Clark can truly learn about his heritage. It will break what ever mental block he now has which prevents his ability to fly.

Since season nine has been confirmed, I think they will save flying to the end of season nine assuming there isn't a tenth season.
