Why did they cop out on the legion flying scene? They showed them flying for 2 seconds and then they focused on clark for way too long and then the lame landing sound to the legion standing there...that was a terrible scene in my opinion.

I think my favorite was when Chloic touched the crystal in the FOS and the color drained out. I really like that one for some reason.

I think the special effects were by far the best this season, and plenty of it at that. It's good to see they saved the budget for some episodes. I just hope they didn't use all of it on this one, there are still another 11 to go lol. If they keep it up like this, it will be a great season. Effects were great and plentiful.

I agree with you, but I wish they showed the Legion fly...pretty much ripped us of on the flying scene :\

I don't know if it was cause they had 3 guests or maybe Bride cost them a lot of money but it did look like they didn't spend too much on effects which was fun cause the episode itself was fun and cool. I liked lighting lads scenes talking about all the stuff of Clark being in history museums. There were those scenes with some cool stuff like when they dealed with Brainic and all that so I'm pleased enough.

And with the flying scene, well even Heroes doesn't have that many scenes of flying and I"m pretty sure there budget is an easy 2-3 times that of "Smallville" per episode. Flying costs a lot of money.

They were great! Considering the amount of budget they are given...

I especially liked the effect when Brainiac was extracted from Chloe and also when Chloiac drained the light/information from the crystals in the fortress.

I think what really made the scene a little over the top/awkward as the song cue. It was like something from the animated series, very melodramatic- by the time I finished my "WTF?" they had already landed v_v.....

I was disappointed in that flying part too. I think I like the part at the end where Brainiac was extracted from Chloe. That was fantastic!

I liked how the Pursuader sliced into Clark, and how he looked clueless. That was kind of cool. I also thought the lightning lad and cosmic boy getting brainiac out of chloe was one of the best of the season.

Yeah its hard to watch heros effects and then watch smallville. I counted it and they had the legion out of camera for 7 seconds then they had them do the old hollywood jump down as if you are landing scene. If anythign they shouldve put more money into the flying scene than other scenes. I noticed the daytime effects dont work as well as the night time effects do on this show.

I just loved the special effects tonight. Clark & the Legion coming together to help Chloe Sullivan, and Clark's heat vision (when he signed the baseball).

I didn't like Chloe throwing Clark Kent (especially when he lands on his back). I have back problmes myself, so when I see someone landing on their back real hard, it's back-breaking just to watch it.

i think they could have done a longer fight between clark and the persuader. other than that the effects were great

i thought the effects were great in the episode, persuaders atomic axe was great, the legion's powers, the extraction of brainiac, brainiac draining the fos and many others.

i thought the fx were brilliant.
everything from the dark fortress,to the glowing axe to the brianiac extraction. that especially was just awesome.

the fx is the only thing that actually improved my thoughts on this ep. so i bow down to the fx's gods for their efforts with this ep.

I was somewhat underwhelmed by the SFX in this episode, mainly because of how much obvious 'saving' the prior eps have been doing. Like, I wanted some first class green screen flying on par to "Crusade" Kal-El (which was way back at the start of Season 4) or Kara in several episodes last season. What we were given here was barely a cameo of the team's ability in a special effect that's equivalent to something we'd see on Lois & Clark. Also, some of the other effects weren't particularly that impressive, such as Lightning Lad's ability, which seems more like a copy-paste effect of Nick Yang's talent in the Vengeance Chronicles. This mainly upsets me because this was the 'big' return episode of the season after winter hiatus, comparing to so many awesome eps before; Season 5's "Jonathan's Death", Season 6's "Justice League Formation", Season 7's "Bizarro Round 2", now... this. Doesn't help in the least the Persuader only received a pre-opening cameo, though I guess it makes sense in that the ep wanted to give a proper salute to Brainiac (hence finally including his familiar insignia).

Best case scenario, all this saving on special effects will give us a grand Clark/Doomsday battle.

The lightning/electric effects they used for one of the legions powers were awsome and like what 'ClarkBoy14' said when chloe touched the crystal and took its engery and knowledge was a very cool effect i noticed that as soon as i saw it pretty good for smallville.

I also agree on the flying seen yeah it was cool to see some flying in it again but like i said in a differe topic they can't really do good flying scenes the graphics are crap and i guess they know it thats why they showed the legion flying for like 2seconds and then focused on clark as you see their legs and feet land. I wondering why they can't use the same type of graphics that the TV series 'Heroes' use, when peter or anyone else flies in 'Heroes' it looks really good graphics considering its a TV show.

ooooh yeah. that effect gave me that cool creepy feeling.

The fortress did turn black though. I was disapointed that they didn't make the shot of the night fortress blacker. Although it wasn't all black inside. Part of the crystals were still white.

It just reminds me though. When they already had a shot of the Fortress shown from season 5, they use it again, that's fine for me. But when it's night time, they didn't work very hard on making the Fortress look darker. It was blue, but there were still some shining lights on it, that you would only see in the day time.

Lighting Lad's lighting power struck from his hands looked pretty good. It just reminds me of one of the Smallville meteor freak's powers. Saturn Girl's power effect looked cool. She was hot by the way.

I was also glad that they finally made a Clark heat vision effect. It doesn't look like it's that hard to make. Why can't they make heat vision effects more often?
