I am putting this thread under the most recent episode, because frankly I want people to read it, whereas it really only requires you to have seen up to "Eclipse part 2"
Anyway, when Peter went to the future he met a bad Claire, a good Sylar, and Sylar's son, a little blond boy called Noah.
What I think happened is that in that timeline's past, Hiro did not save the Bennetts. This meant that when Sylar and Elle had Claire, her Mum, Noah and Lyle hostage, they killed Noah (and most likely the other 2 as well) and then left and lived a life of Bonnie and Clyde, leaving Claire alone and madder than Hulk.
Elle got pregnant, then gave birth to a baby boy. Maybe she didn't survive the birth, maybe Sylar kicked her out when he decided to turn over a new leaf for his son's sake. The name is puzzling, it could be that Sylar named him out of guilt, so he would have a constant reminder of what he had done and what he had to lose if he went bad again.
When Claire turns up at his house in Costa Verde she is understandably unhappy with him, and has turned into a sociopath in her quest to punish others for what he did. This results in the fight that kills little Noah and makes Sylar blow up in more ways than one.
So when Hiro removed Sylar and Claire from hurting anyone, then whisked Claire away aswell, he prevented Claire from losing her family, saving her destiny, and also snatched away Sylar's kill, leaving him with a bloodlust that he satisfies by killing Elle, who at that point doesn't mean that much to him as she would have later. So no more little Noah. That kid just can't catch a break can he?
I would like to mention the fact that Heroes seems to be making an effort to go for the "pre-destination paradox" when by trying to change the future by altering the past you end up fulfilling the past unintentionally. For example: Hiro tearing the formula in two, meaning it was kept in 2 places in the future.
