A lot of people have said that everything that's been happening is leading to the exact same dark future that was shown in the beginning of this season... hopefully, after this episode, people will realize that future events have definitely changed.

One example is quite obvious... Knox is now dead...

I personally have felt all along that the future has been changing even before this episode... I felt that the weird alliances we saw in the alternate future were changing with every butterfly that characters were stepping on...

Is the world still faced with similar danger... of course... especially with Nathan going further down the wrong path... but, ultimately things have changed.

I interpreted that differently. Since the formula was torn in the beginning of this season, and Hiro going back in time turned out to be how it was originally torn I think that was supposed to show that we never saw the original time line, we have been watching a loop of a secondary time line. We never saw the time line that had the formula in one piece. Whatever happened in the one piece time line led to Hiro still needing to go back and try to destroy the formula, giving Kaito the idea to split it up for better security.
