I didn't think the guy looked anything like obama other than being black skinned If anything I though he looked more like the guy form the insurance commercials whose name excapses me at the moment. If anything I think they cast the african american actor as the president as to make it clear he isn't supposed to be any real american president and than obama won and they said well we already have our president and he doesn't look that much like obama so we may as well stick with him. and besides with the heroes timeline shouldn't it still be a few years ago even when january rolls around in real life I doubt it will be 2009 in the heroes universe since theyve been dragging time out having the first season only be a few weeks in heroes time then the next volume a few months after that so really it should be late 2007 early 2008 in the heroes universe I think they're about a year behind from the real world from dragging time out so the 2008 election shouldn't have happened yet in the heroes universe and this guy is just the 200?-2008 president in the heroes universe and they will get a new president elected after volume 4 or 5.

Wow...people are just so.....
Did no-one recognize Michael Dorn as the President? I could tell just by the voice before they even showed him. For those who don't know, he played Warf on Star Trek.
First, he looks NOTHING like Obama.
Second, it's not the first time there has been a black president in a movie or TV show.
Third, the fact that this thread exists proves that just because Obama won, many Americans still have a long way to go.

yeah in the opening credits i saw michael dorn's name come out and i was looking for him through out the episode and he never popped up. then i realized they were going to give us that chapter 4 teaser and realized that he just had to be there for the surprise. good ol' worf got himself a new gig as the president of the u.s.

Dear lord, you people are really stupid. Michael Dorn looks nothing at all like Obama. Hell, Obama isn't even black really. Michael Dorn appearing as the pres is simply another Star Trek connection in this show, they love using Star Trek people, in case you haven't noticed. Hell, using your logic, them having 'a black president' in 24 was proof someone at that show could see the future and he too was supposed to be Obama.

Well I have to say it makes since that now that we have a black man(apperance wise) as the current president, any show that portrays the President is going to make him black regaurdless of weather the actor actually looks like Obama. I doubt most of the white actors cast as the President in the past eight years looked anything like Bush unless they were specifically spoofing Bush.
That being said, I was just happy to see Michael Dorn in it. Worf was one of my favorites in both TNG and DS9. Seeing him(or hearing his voice since he does so much voice acting) is usually a pleasant suprise.

Pretty sure the guy was Michael Dorn.
Michael Dorn does not look like Obama unless you think Obama looks like Worf from Startrek.

chill out guys, on both your sides, obama or not, your all missling the bigger picture.
up until obama was elected, it was RARELY seen to have a black president in any role.
Now we do. so the reality of a black or coloured(yes im Canadian i spell it that way) president has come to pass, therefore.. Black President in Heroes.
rejoice movie, tv and theatre, roles have been opened!
Who cares? not me. I'm just glad they picked a good actor :)

I just watched the last part of fugitives again, and it looks pretty damn close to me. And if not, why did they keep him out of focus, and only show like his chin, then his eyes in extreme close ups?
If he was generic US president, no reason to have him at a different shot size than Nathan. These aren't random choices, they are deliberate filmmaking decisions.

Do you even know who Michael Dorn is?
Go look him up on IMDB
He is muscular and wide. Not fat. Just there.
Obama is Skinny and tall.
Their facial features are nothing alike let alone their ears. Go actualy look at the actor then come back and tell us if you think they look alike.

The only thing they have in common is being black.

They actually do show his complete face for about 4-6 seconds. He is black, but doesn't look like Obama.

In defense of the thread creator, I don't believe he in any way meant that the Micheal Dorn president looked anything like Obama.
I think he meant that they used an Afro-American as the president because of Obama.
Please correct me HowardFilms if I am wrong.

If you read Beeman's blog, they filmed this before the elections and decided to go with Dorn for the role of the president. Just a mere coincidence that Obama got elected in the end.

Oh I love Michael Dorn as well, as the Star Trek actor with the singular distinctions of having appeared in just plain more Trek than any other, and appearing with 3 different 'crews' of trek (He was in Next Gen, the entire series, DS9 for 3 years, he played his own grandfather in ST 6, then also appeared in 7, 8, 9 and 10 thats a decade worth of tv series and 5 movies!) he is a Trek icon. I'm a huge fan of the Worf. I'm very glad hes on here, bad guy or not.

Yes, it was a deliberate filmmaking decision, but not for any reason that you think. It's because it's Michael Dorn. Another Start Trek cameo. They used the same type of shots when we first saw George Tekei, and when we first saw Nichelle Nicholls. They did it for the big reveal of the actor.

For the record, I don't think the actor himself looks like him. But the extreme close ups made the insinuation pretty clear. THOSE shots were tight enough to look like Obama.
And as for another Trek star being on the show, will it never end? haha.
I for one wouldn't mind some more superhero cameos. Stan Lee in season 1 was great.

i think they did use a black actor for the role of the president to imply that this story is very much set in present day, with the present america has now
however i don't think it's fair to say that obama is the new villain. they are making a point of what happens when governments find out about abilities, a point that has been made time and time again. 'the establishment' is always looking to control, to harvest etc. Nathan has always been a part of the establishment and therefore a part of that. the nod to the president was just to show how far to the top Nathan has reached

I was about to post it if Slyph hadn't beaten me to it. (having just finished reading what Beaming Beeman had to say about this episode)
To recap:
They shot this episode in October.
The American election which Obama won was held in November.

That and most of this season has taken place in march of 07 why would they jump to 09 just to have president obama running the search for the people with powers?n what they wouldn't and this is just a random actor playing a random president that happens to be black wow amazing.

Exactly, it's just Heroes ripping off classic 24 while they also continue to rip off The 4400.
Not that I won't be watching - at least for a while longer. I can't quit you Heroes! And who has said that Michael Dorn is playing a villain? We've just met his character and the only villain I saw in that short scene was Nathan.
