Okay, so I've watched Abyss three times now, and at first I wasn't happy whatsoever at Clark's decision to take away her memories of him. But after having a chance to rewatch it a couple of times, I'm okay with it.

Clark actually has good reasons for taking away those memories. His secret was practically taking over Chloe's life and that's all that she had time for. No time for herself. I know that these past 4 years haven't been for nothing. She's grown so much, and that growth is still there, she just doesn't know how she got to where she is. Her relationship with Clark hasn't been altered. They are still the best of friends.

Clark is doing this for Chloe's own good and to protect her from the danger that he brings into the lives of the people around him.

Let's just give it a chance. It's only been two days and I know we are all still in shock. Let's let that wear off. After fans have seen Clark and Chloe's new relationship for more than one scene, opinions might change.

I hope they do.

I don't know if knowledge about Clark's origins were taking over her life. She certainly has had her share of sidesteps to take to keep it out of a topic of discussion, but lately it's been her infection by Brainiac that had become all consuming. Blame that on knowing Clark's secret? Well, Lois has just had her share of fun what with the PZ and being the vessel for Faora (or however you spell it...), and at this point Lois doesn't know about Kryptonian things.

Whether not knowing about Clark's abilities is in Chloe's best interest is not the point. The point is that what happens within her own brain should be her decision and nobody else's. She made it clear to Clark that she would not trade knowing his secret for anything, and he deliberately went against her wishes in one of the most important decisions in her life. Regardless of the consequences, it was NOT Clark's decision to make.

I think what Ollie said to Clark in the bar scene in Toxic hits right to the point. Clark may be invincible but still has a lot of fear. He hasn't faced his island yet. He still has trust issues. I think he thought he was doing the right thing for Chloe but this is going to bite him in the backside big time.

and it looks like even with no memory he is still a danger to her...or rather that she is still in danger wheter she knows about it or not IMO. Clark just took away her advantage of knowing when to run and how to kind of keep herself safe. But even though i didn't wnat to see it and it broke my heart i loved abyss and it is one of my favorite episodes ever!!!! that's right...ever!

This is why I said we should all give it a chance. We don't know what is going to happen. This could prove to be better for Chloe. BUT - we don't know yet.

We haven't seen much of their relationship post-fortress. I don't think we can make a decision that it's good for Chloe or bad for Clark etc.

Although you can hardly call Clark a jerk for wanting to protect Chloe, you do have a point. Which is why I think this could very well be another plot line in Clark and Chloe's relationship. He already mentioned it's difficult not having someone to confide in and the question whether or not Chloe is better off knowing or not knowing hasn't been satisfyingly answered yet. Her ignorance in this matter is quite possibly only temporary, although that all depends on where they want Chloe to end up in Superman canon.
