can you please start making Clark calling his powers, "Powers" instead of abilities.

nobody in real life calls flight, super-strength, super-speed, super-hearing, and super-breath, vision powers (x-ray, heat, telescopic, and microscopic vision) abilities, they call them super powers.

other than that you guys have given us one of the best seasons ever and it's not even over yet.:eek::eek:

EDITED:
okay, i'll change my original statement. Don't STOP using the word abilities, just use it a lot less.

even Jor-El uses the word "powers". here's a quote:
Jor-El: "I programmed the Fortress to remove all your powers and self-destruct if you became a danger to the planet."

the only time Clark ever says "abilities" is when he's around the few that know his secret or in the Fortress with Jor-El. Rewatch the Jor-El scenes or whenever you watch Smallville again and hear him say "abilities", imagine him saying "powers" instead. It would sound so much better and it would flow better

Clark would call them abilities, they're things that he can do naturally. For kryptonite infected they're powers. You don't call a bird's flight a power, you call it the ability of a bird. Same deal with Clark because all Kryptonians can fly (except him)

and i personally think its more of a realistic touch. Smallvilles a more realistic version of the superman mytho IMO. Thats why you don't have other superheroes in spandex etc. lol

I think Clark calling them abilities sounds out of place. I actually noticed that, in this episode before seeing this thread. So I definately agree, Clark needs to stop calling them abilities. Powers sounds better. He gets "power" from the sun like a huge battery. So they are, in fact, powers.

He could just whisper it when he says it.

Even in superman the movie clark or kal el or whatever calls them powers.

at least we're away from the word meteor. Oh wait, Clark used it in Abyss.

I like theses two words, powers and abilities. "Abilities" is more delicate, it shows as Migo says that Clark is used to be like this, his abilities define him.The word " powers" define the mission he has because of Jor-El. His abilities make him different, his powers help him to save people and later save the world...You understand what I mean ?

I agree, not because 'abilities' is such a bad term to describe his powers, but simply because they use it all the time. The writers should really buy a thesaurus.

- some people would call them abilities .
because , it is an ability to do so .
& it's easier to just call them abilities instead of super-powers all the time .
LOLLLL , but it sure was funny when Lois was like ;
" Abilties ? , as in your ability to look both ways before the crossing the street ? "

Chloe said that, but yeah. If Clark called them powers he'd draw attention to himself. It's OK to say powers when talking about Superman, but he doesn't exist yet.

I think this is a good insight. Since few people in every day real life wear spandex costumes (especially a costume like Superman's with the bright colors and flowing cape), I think the absence of spandex in Smallville makes Clark more relatable. Personally, I think SV Clark (soon to Superman) is the version of the character who is the easiest to identify with and I think the character's relatablility is one of the main reason SV has been so successful. While I do eagerly anticipate flight, I care not care less whether or not Clark dons THE blue tights and red cape. In fact, I prefer that he not.

Powers or abilities? Really matters not to me, but some variety would be nice unless TPTB are trying to do some branding of some sort. Traditionally, it seems to me that Superman is described by his powers.

It's getting repetitive, the should change it every now and then.

I agree.
I'm also tired of meteor infected and others with super powers, always being called ''people with abilities''. When are they going to start using the term ''metahumans''?
I'm sick of the term ''meteor freak'' (I wanna recall Lionel told Chloe to stop using that term and grow up, in Static) and I'm sick of them. Please, PS3 stop using them (they've already destroyed some of the episodes, that could have been my favorite episode).

In the Smallville-Verse, Jonathan taught Clark to call them "his abilities" and to be proud of them.

I think, Clark still calling them "Abilities" honors what his Dad taught him:) IMO

Agreed. I don't mind him using it (after all, it's the term his parents taught him to use so he'd hold onto it) but he needs to stop using it ALL the TIME.

From Merriam Webster thesaurus

Abilities

Synonyms capability, capacity, competence, competency, faculty
Related Words aptitude, aptness, endowment, facility, gift, knack, talent; adroitness, deftness, dexterity, prowess, skill; gray matter, instinct, intelligence, reason, understanding; potency, staying power, stuff; adequacy, effectiveness, effectualness, fitness, form, influence, resourcefulness, usefulness; means, resources, wherewithal

Powers

Synonyms faculty
Related Words function; capability, capacity; aptitude, endowment, flair, genius, gift, instinct, knack, talent

According to Merriam-Webster, abilities and powers are not even synonyms! So, I guess, Clark should call them 'my endowments'

I've been rewatching Smallville from the beginning lately and I'm up to Season 3. I was watching Obsession (the one with Alicia) and Jonathon Kent actually uses the word "powers" in that episode!

He says something to Clark when they are talking about how Alicia was in the falling elevator with him about "she saw you use your powers?"

I immediately thought of this thread.

So would it be Clark has the ability to use his powers or Clark has the power to use his abilities?

While Lois has seen Clark's um..endowments (in fact, it was one of the first things she saw when they first met!), only Lana has first hand knowledge of the, um..."abilities" of said endowments. But we all know that Lois' time will soon come.

I hope she likes faster than a speeding bullet....

Thank you. i knew they used it before, but it was so long ago i forgot which episode it was. i'll look for that episode on the internet and watch it again :D.

that's also what bothers me, they have used it before, but now they COMPLETELY stopped using it. (except for Jor-El)

I'm pretty sure there have at least another couple of instances (I seem to recall Bo saying it again in Season 5), as well. So yeah, not like it's never been said before....
