You know Im going to have to go with Transference. That was such a great episode for John Glover and Tom Welling as actors. But man, Bloodline was pretty dang great too. And I liked the whole Vessel/Zod thing but I think if we want to talk about performances, I would rate Transference the highest followed by Bloodline and then Vessel/Zod.

Transference with Bloodline a close second. Lois had different mannerisms, attitude, look, and even tone of voice when playing Feaora. She really pulled it off.

NOT Spell. ANYTHING but Spell.
Seriously, I would say either Transference or Vessel.
I actually liked the fact that in Vessel, Michael Rosenbaum played Zod the same way he played Lex. It showed the similarity between the characters (Zod is obsessed with destroying the House of El, and of course in the future, Lex will be obsessed with destroying Superman).
I like the parallel.

"Transference" was the best acted. Lionel as Clark was just delicious! "Vessel/Zod" was the most explosive. Especially Zod... it was so action packed. Both of those episodes were. "Spirit" was hilarious. The great thing about Spirit was that it was one character running through the entire cast almost. "Bloodline" was good. Erica did a wonderful job. I just feel like "Zod" cancels it out a bit.

Transference, hands down. That was a classic episode.

Bloodline
Transference, no question, although Erika Durance did do a great job in Bloodline. I also really liked Spirit.

I've voted for "Transference" which was in general excellent (and hilarious). Although, "Bloodline" does come in a close second, as ED did an awesome job.

As an episode i liked better bloodline. But the transference was an awesome switch. Bad Lionel at Clark's body. It just cannot get any better than that !!!!!!

i loved Spell. don't ask me why, but i just did. not to get off topic but as i am posting this i am remembering something. ED said that Lois would be joining the other cast members that have temporarily aquired powers. Well she had powers in spell when she was possessed by the witch.

Transference without a doubt, even if it did set up "good" Lionel, one of the most annoying developments ever.
But why no love for Spirit? That episode was hilarious, it was very memorable. Martha Kent's "I'm just super pumped for prom", "Great Dawn impression, Lana", and "The crown is mine!" It was just a fun episode to play with everyone's characters.
Bloodline moved a lot of the season arc along. We learned some important stuff about Davis. We got closure on Kara. We got some hints that Brainiac was using Chloe and was behind all this PZ Zod family reunion stuff. We got more set up for Chloe being taken over completely by Brainiac and Clark is going to need to do something about it.
It was a good workhorse of an episode, but was it really fun or exciting? Personally, I was disappointed that Clark was just sort of a pawn in this episode. Faora wasn't really an interesting personality, kind of a cliche evil supporting character. I won't be hoping for her return. Taking her down seemed pretty anti-climactic.

Laura Vandevoort as BrainIAC (Or as Brainiac being Kara being Braniac...?? lol) was one of the best I've seen. Laura V nailed the mannerism's of Milton Fine/James Marsters. It was unexpected too, I hadn't really been overly impressed with her acting up til that point. And she was great again in "Bloodline" too. I hope she returns, especially if they do a season 9!

Don't you just love "body-switching" episodes? I do! :D
Tranference was the best. Glover and Welling were amazing.
Bloodline was a close second. Durance's Faora was creepy cool!
Spirit was awesome too. Ma Kent as a teenager dancing in the kitchen during that one scene with Lois and Clark was hilarious! "You make me wanna la la in the kitchen on the floor. I'll be your french maid when I meet you at the door. I'm like an alley cat..."
"Laterz!" :rotfl:

As much as i loved Bloodline, we're going with Transference here.
It had one thing that Bloodline did not; JOHN GLOVER :p
That aside, honestly, Transference is one of my top episodes of SV of all time. It takes alot to beat that for me. Bloodline came close, but not close enough.

"The crown is mine, b!tch."
Some of the others may be better episodes overall but when it comes to the body swapping portion Spirit has my vote for the crown.
Tomb didn't make the list? AM did a bang up job on that one I thought.

I voted for Transference over Bloodline for the fact that you can't really tell how good a job Erica is doing, since you don't know the character she is playing (if that makes sense).
What I mean to say is, when you watch Transference, it's amazing how John Glover can pull of Clark Kent, and you see Tom Welling's mannerisms/expressions, etc. reflected in his performance, and vice versa. Where, with ED, you don't know "Faora", since she's obviously not a character we've seen before. Erica certainly did a great job of playing "not-Lois" though, I just think TW/JG's was the more impressive.

I totally agree with you. I think the fact that we know the characters in Transference means that we as viewers get more of a kick out of seeing them swap roles. TW and JG both had to work hard to mimic the others acting style, while ED wasn't constrained in that way.

i voted for bloodline for Erica's performance but for pure comedy value Martha Kent in spirit is the single funniest thing i've ever seen on Smallville. As someone already mentioned dancing to Ashlee Simpson and being "Super pumped for prom" and asking clark and lois if they were macking on the sly and keeping it on the DownLow in public. Hillarious
They should bring Mrs Kent back!!!!

I partly disagree. I think TW did a much better job imitating Lionel than JG did mimicking Clark (even though he is the more experienced actor). Anyway, so far nothing beats Transference.

Transference. I expected to hate that episode, but wound up loving it. That was Tom's best performace, playing Lionel Luthor. The jokes alone were great. "I need a hug." :)
I have to say, I think Bloodline is second. Erica Durance nailed the Faora persona flawlessly. It was great. Plus, her hair looked awesome!

I agree with TOMophilious. Tom did a great job impersonating Lionel. I remember in the commentary when JG said that the most difficult part of playing Clark was to just stand and look imposing. He said that no one does that better than Tom. I believe that Tom's physique has a lot to do with that.

Transference...Just watched it again and Tom was amazing in it as Lionel. Glover tried to be like Tom but missed the mark for me, but it is still the best body switching episode. Bloodline is my 2nd choice.

Transference is my favorite. Tom was amazing as Lionel trapped in Clark's body, he was so sexy smug and exploitive. If it was a 2 part episode God knows what he would have done!! Bloodline was good too but Vessel would have to be my 2nd choice. MR was so smooth as Zod.

Transference was probably the best. Spirit was entertaining but very goofy, same goes for 'Spell' So Bloodline gets second place because the cold callus nature that Erica gave Faora was chilling. I loved it. A scientist so mad she believed her creation to actually be her child. Her hero worship of Zod also came across as apparent and was equally creepy.

Story-wise, "Transference" was both a classic and amazing in its own right. Glover and Welling did great jobs.
But I'm gonna go with "Bloodline;" Erica Durance pulled Faora off amazingly well. Given three seasons of Lois, we've kind of gotten a feal for her "Lois" personality ("Spell" notwithstanding...talk about written with one hand...), but her Faora was just killer. Her voice especially set her apart as a completely separate character, and her role in Davis's story arc was pretty incredible, too.

Transference of course: one of my favorite episodes ever. That scene of "Clark" and Chloe in the Torch where he comes on to her then gives that utterly devastating put down, "Don't you wish?" *Shivers*

Transference definitely. JG as Clark was hilariously innocent, TW as Lionel was chilling
and the riot scene, with my favorite Jimmy Eat World song as the track, definitely my #1 favorite scene of the entire series

Erica Durance does an awesome job as Fayora in Bloodline, but in Transferance Tom Welling played Lionel to perfection. He played Lionel the same as John Glover but it was so subtle that it wasn't immediately obvious to everyone else. So Transferance gets my vote.

Transference and Bloodline are both classics, and important to the story arcs for theirrespective seasons, but Spirit had to be the most fun. Watching Annette O'Toole dancing in the kitchen was hilarious! And one of my favourtie lines is after Lois retruns to herself and says to Clark (in referrence to her corsage): "Did you pin this on? A little close to the boob, don't you think?"

Transference was just too awesome, then Vessel and then line. I was so rivetted by the whole Doomsday is Zod's son reveal, just awesome.
But nothing can surpass Tom welling acting like Lionel.
