View Full Version : Why the Lois moving in moving out tease?

That befuddled me a bit. First Lois brings her stuff and announces that she's moving in and then she gets a pay raise and tells CK she changed her mind. I don't get the purpose of doing that. What are they trying to say in that; that Lois is falling too much for CK and therefore is getting cold feet? Did she remember more about the Zone than she's letting on? It seems like there was a purpose in that situation and I can't put my finger on it.

Whatever it is, I'm glad she's not moving in. Clark doesn't need to play house with anybody, IMO.

Lois was right not to move in to begin with; I was shocked that she just showed up at the beginning of the episode. But then glad that Clark wasn't pushing it. And then glad that Lois changed her mind.
Yeah, it was a tease, but they resolved it within a single episode, so I'm not bothered by it.

I think it was to tease. I personally wasnt at all impressed when i thought they were going to move her in. (even though i did like the def leppard album i happen to be a big fan) LOL.
I was relieved when she was getting her own place. but it was also i HUH? thing. I don't know why they bothered. I guess it was a way to get Lois at the farm when clark touched the crystal?

You may be right about that. I hadn't thought of it that way. Seems a little over the top if that's all it was about but you may be right.

I'm glad she didn't end up moving in. It sounded like she couldn't afford a place in Metropolis on her original salary. But couldn't stand sharing the apartment with the soon to be newlyweds. So... She was ready to move in with Clark until she saved up I guess.
When she got the raise, she could afford to live on her own. I didn't think it was random. It was nicely set up for several episodes that Lois is looking for a place and that Chloe and Jimmy are grating on her.

I never said it made sence.. lol it was the only thing i could think of. Kind of a waste of a scene though when you think of it. I would of rather had them have more screen time for doomsday and Kara/clark time then having to explain moving in then not moving in.

Its because she will move in
you know in movies, or shows where they have characters almost kiss then get interrupted? you ALWAYS get a kiss in the end and so lois will most likely move in OR clark will move in with her in her new apartment.
And if we see an almost kiss between clois sometime this season, they will kiss by the end of it.

Doesn't Lois tell him about her dream in the kitchen? She talked about Clark being her savior or something in the dream. She looked troubled by that and I think it was in the same scene that she announced she is not moving in. I'm going to watch it again but I think she knows more than she is letting on and is puzzled about how to react to it all. She remembered the Zone as a dream but perhaps she's not 100% sure it was a dream. I think this is another example of Lois knowing CK's secret but keeping it to herself.

At first I was happy that she was moving in. Gives them the chance to get to know each other better, and for her to figure out his secret. But then I kept on reminding myself, if she moves in now, Clark will have to be carefull around her not to use his powers or would have to make up excuses about all things krypton related to cover it up. She needs to know his secret before she can move in and then everything will be out in the open.

I think Lois just had enough of Jimmy and went to the first open door she could find. With a raise, she has new options.

So, was she moving in for practical reasons or because she's trying to advance her relationship with Clark and then got wet feet? I guess they want to keep us guessing.

ClarkMan and lois will not be shacking-up in Smallville. lois just likes taking advantage of people like ClarkMan for her own benefit. We know from her previous extended flopping at the Kent Farm that she really brings nothing to the table domestically speaking.
It is better that she be alone so that she can meditate on her navel in Metropolis. It may bring her illumination.

I have made no secret of my disdain for the representation of the name of Lois Lane on Smallville, and having seen every version of Lois on screen since the movie serials (I didnt see them live, seems like I found some on youtube), I have felt this representation to be the worse version of a lois ever on screen and certainly not one a thinking intelligent man, much less a super man, would find attractive, other than superficial body parts. As a compatible partner to Superman, I think Noel Neill or Margot Kidder to be far superior to Smallville's version of the name.
On the other hand, do note that in another thread that I commented on ED doing a good job tonight as Mrs. Zod.

Noted. I saw that. I'm just now warming up to her and think she's great. Didn't like her for a couple of seasons.

They had one when Ma and Pa Kent were still on the farm. Lois isn't shy, that's for sure.

I hope that there is no more CK adultery. Superman has always been an upright, moral super hero and I believe it degrades the mythos when he screws around.

Def Noel Neill. No question. Margot Kidder's Lois was too snarky and dismissive of Clark. Although I've been enjoying ED Lois for a change this season, I'd still go with Noel Neill, the original live action Lois Lane, and in my opinion, the best.

It is always good to see someone refer to reality,or something close thereto, as opposed to comic books.

Well I have seen all of the Lois Lane representations as well and love ED portrayal of Lois. In the original Adventures of Superman, as much as I loved it as a kid, Lois always found the bad guy and always got into trouble, then got rescued. There was absolutely NO romantic relationship other then a mere blush from LL being rescued by Superman. It was also written for kids, not young adults or adults.
As times have changed, Superman has actually become more of an adult guilty pleasure. The relationships therefore have reflected that and are more adult. Morgot Kidder's Lois didn't even pay attention to Clark which was different to NN who worked closer with Clark.
The animated Lois, tolerates Clark but has the hots for Superman.
The comics have gone through so many interpretations and Lois has reflected that, after all it has been 70 years.
I know I will never convince people who want to diss ED that she is really great in the part, but I see nothing wrong with her being the way she is. Every character on the show has had their share of questionable moments, it's a fantacy after all, and some like to zero in on Lois.
As far as LOis moving in, I think she is testing Clark's feelings a bit to see how he would react if she moved back, especially since she was moving in with boxes of things she never uses.

Moving in together doesn't necessarily mean screwing around (if by screwing around you mean having sex). There are many man/woman room mates that don't sleep together. And I don't think there was adultery in the Clana relationship, they were a couple and none of them were cheating on the other. They were having pre-marital sex, if that was what you meant, something that is not that uncommon in this century.
Anyway, Superman did sleep with Lois in the comics before they got married, and in the movies too (Superman II) and I don't consider that screwing around either.

I hated her for the first two years; she was a floozy, jogging in practically nothing, posing as a stripper and the sexuality was way over the top. They've stopped doing that and I see now that ED is a very fine actress and I love the way the character is being developed now. Having said that I hope that she and CK don't start screwing around like he did with Lana. It adds nothing to the storyline and I enjoy watching SV with my 6 year old daughter. We watch the TIVO version so I know where to fast forward but I wish I didn't have to do any of that. It can be just as exciting and at the same time be wholesome. I mean we're talking about someone who can see right through ladies clothes any time he wants and it seems as though he respects their privacy and holds himself up to a higher standard. I hope they keep it up high.

I know what he means. There's a difference between science fiction and comics and of course reality. Smallville is more of a drama bordering on being a soap opera at times while Lois and Clark and the Chris Reeve movies were very campy and a bit on the silly side. The more realistic a fantasy like this is the more believable it is. Superman is a tough thing to do. I like the way Smallville and Superman Returns approached the subject but I hate to see Smallville get deeper into the comic book stuff. On the other hand I don't want any more Clana soap opera nonsense.

lois moving in was the answer to our question: why lois is in the farm when the crystal arrives?
Sunny8

I think for plot development Lois needed to be there at the farm with Clark when he touches the crystal so that she'd be transported with him to the PZ. I don't think that she had a hidden agenda. She was trying to get away from the newlyweds to be, and moving with Clark in his big empty house was her only option. I don't think she was trying to move in with Clark to explore her feelings. She is comfortable with Clark and they have lived together platonically before. I don't think they would fornicate (premarital sex, as opposed to adultery--having sex with someone other than the person you are married to). When Tess gave her a raise she no longer needed to move in with Clark.

Times and traditions change. Hence the show changes.
SV Clark has the odd blip (put it down to being young and inexperienced) but for the most part i see him as a moral super heroe. I dont see premarital sex as immoral whatsoever.
Also this is my favourite version of Lois Lane (second being the animated and third kidder). I think she is acted brilliantly. Erica manages to give the character both backbone, charisma and a softer side.

I had to bold that :D
First of all, I must say lol at Lois saying it'll be just her, Clark, & Guitar Hero. The thought of Welling/Clark playing Guitar Hero is hilarious.
Anyway...I don't think she would've moved out if she didn't get the raise, but at this point, I think she's a little nervous to be around Clark, she doesn't want him to know how she feels just now.

Had to bold that part because I 100% agree. It's not like Clark went off and slept with a total stranger. He did it with someone he was absolutely in love with, and whether they're married or not doesn't really matter. He could have sex with Chloe (not trying to be nasty) and that'd be fine, because they've known each other for so long, and if they are willing to take that step and go farther into the relationship they have, it's cool. Unless Clark goes about sleeping with every girl he finds hot, he's absolutely fine.

Why would you want Smallville to avoid the comics? Thus far, they have done a great job with incorporating mythology from the comics and also adding in new elements. But to avoid the comics completely would be nothing short of ignorance on my part. And that's not taking a shot at you, trust me, if anything, it'd be at the writer's if they decided to ignore the comics.

I'd like to see that happen solely to see how well this version of Lois would handle such a big secret.
