View Full Version : Clearly S8 is written to be the last season

That doesn't mean that it will be but there is so much happening and things moving so rapidly to conclusions that it's clear to me that the writers have the difficult task of writing as if this is the last season and yet leaving some wiggle room in case it's not. Tess is on to Clark and is shown Lois superspeeding, we have Doomsday ready to appear and it is clear to me that they are gearing up towards this season concluding with Doomsday and Superman having the epic battle. If they get the go ahead for S9 then perhaps we won't know the result of that battle this season and if they don't then they will show all by the end of this season. Tonight to see the progression of Kara, Chloe in crisis, brainiac back, Doomsday, Lois in the zone and Tess so close to seeing all and knowing generally that CK is not just a farmboy. That's a lot and I believe it's because they are writing as if this is it.

I'd rather they do that than leave much more hanging if they don't get renewed.

true id rather them having a back up plan JUST in case things dont work out. very respsonsible. wouldnt want a crappy ending if the show was ending because of a lack of preperation. im hoping and crossing my fingers it WONT end but i guess we wont know until for a while

Yeah PS3 said at San Diego ComicCon that they're trying to keep it so they can end it or continue without the story suffering. Think of it as the ultimate "choose your own adventure" book. Except instead of the reader, Dawn Ostroff gets to decide.

I think the only things that could prevent a season nine is if CW goes under or Tom Welling refuses to do it. With the ratings and the improved writing I wish another network would grab the show and sign Welling to a five year deal and let's get on with Superman.

Agreed, I hate when shows don't get renewed or canceled and we are left hanging for the show to never be completed.

With Ostroff's budget, I doubt we'll ever see Metallo, Hank Henshaw (my personal favorite), the Eradicator, or any other bigtime villian.

I'd LOVE to have Morgan Edge back, but this time forming Intergang.

Rout or Mongrul would've been great Season 9 villians imo...:)

Season 9: The Return of Shelby

I saw Shelby a couple of episodes back. He's looking a little shabby. He may be in Shelby heaven by now.

I think they could do Metallo well. His appearance resembles a Terminator and the Sarah Connor Chronicles can do cyborgs on weekly basis. Smallville can pull it off.

If smallville can do Doomsday, Metallo and cyborg would be no problem. Just show a little metal skeleton now and then, and have Metallo shoot Kryptonite out of his eyes.

Hank Henshaw/Cyborg Superman (or Cyborg Clark in this show) would cost too much unfortunately. With him, they would need to show a human face & body mixed in with cybernetic parts and this would have to be shown with special effects to make it look decent. I came up with a great backstory for him in my fanfic Eradication.

Actually, if the network goes under, they'll probably just move the show to another network (hopefully ABC or CBS, who could give it a better budget). I think the writers want to tie up as many loose ends as possible, just in case this becomes the last season (so, it doesn't become like the last episode of Lois & Clark; they find a mysterious baby, wrapped in a Superman blanket and with a note, telling them it's theirs and then it just ends. No explaination for the childs origin or anything). There's also several loose ends from earlier season that was never allowed to be resolved by AlMiles.

This would be the best scenario; a larger budget, better SPFX and Superman in all of his glory. Give Welling ownership and make him a very wealthy man and Superman: The Beginning could go for another five years with good writing.

Bigtime villains? What about Bizarro? Doomsday and the Possible Darkseid...?

I wonder if the chance for a Season 9 has improved since word has come out that the new show "The Graysons has been shelved?" Of course it all depends on getting TW and ED on board for Season 9.

If this is the last season, it will end with Clark defeating Doomsday and then becoming Superman. If they decide to go one more then Clark will probably get killed by Doomsday in the finale and have to be resurrected in the season 9 premiere.

He has to fly before he can take on DD if it's anything like the cartoon I have. Let's hope that happens soon.

I think there is hope for S9. I don't think the CW can come up with another show that is such a strong contender for Thurs. night as Smallville. Besides, who are they gonna back up with Supernatural?

I want S9 just so that Clois can go on for another season.

Sigh.

I hope that there will be a season 9. The writing of SV is so much better this season, it feels like a completely different show. I like the last few seasons but i LOVE this one. I really, really hope that they aren't going to wrap things up this season.

But maybe the biggest reason it is so good is because they are writing it to be the last, and therefore able to move the characters forward. It's a Catch 22.

IA that they're really progressing things. But they still have quite a few stories to tell if they want to do a S9, which I'm not really opossed to anymore.

Well, Superboy had Metallo, so I imagine SV could do it. :)

The producers have said many times in interviews lately they have plans for the show if it is going to be the end this yr and plans to keep it going if they get a 9th season(bearing on cw surviving past end of the current tv season, and signing welling to another yr). We just wont know to during/after the winter hiatus break coming up.

They can't delay it much longer. Welling can't sit around and wait, he has to be lining up work for next season. I suspect that Welling is already on board and Durance as well and CW will have to decide almost right away.

I really like Smallville a lot, but I think they should end it after this 8th season.
I would definitely like to see TW as Superman in the Movies. Superman is going
through the reboot process now and I do not want Tom and Erica to miss out
in being cast in the big screen version!

If it ends up being one of the station's biggest rating winners, and there are no serious job prospects for the principal actors, it'll be back for another season.

i am hoping there is a season 9. i don't want smallville to end. even tho i know it eventually has to. i will be extremely pissed if there isn't a season 9 and they end the series with the epic battle, not knowing what will happen. and i thought about something. smallville was supposed to be clark's life before superman and the daily planet. that was their excuse as to why Lois and Clark couldn't be together or anything in the previous seasons. Well guess what? Clark and Lois are both at the daily planet this season. They have no more excuses as to why they can't end up together.

As long as the network is there. The CW is hanging by a thread. Without Smallville they may not make it and they may not make it anyway.

It is weird, before reading everyone I was sure there would be a season 9. I find the plots are very well done and slow enough to make many things happen in the future? You know, I am optimistic for everything but I really hope this time I am right, I can't imagine no SV anymore, impossible, really...

I think there will be a S9, and the guys who don't want it will watch it whatever they say now...

But I doubt there will be a S10, the actors probably want to move on, we don't know if the CW can make it for another year, etc. Nine seasons at least would be good, eight don't sound enough to me.

how bout this .. season 9 of "smallville".. will also be season 1 of the (new) new adventures of superman or better yet , call it "Metropolis"... we get to see all our fav ppl playing the same characters in the so-called Superman setting... afterall ... most of the scenes this season takes place in metropolis.

I read on Entertainment Weekly that Smallville and Supernatural are the 'little shows that could' and I believe their ratings have been steadily increasing since their respective season openers (yes, I realise, I have no life whatsoever now that I'm wittering on about tv ratings). Good signs?

I'm really really really hoping that PS3 are moving things in this direction so that us crazy fans will have some sort of resolved ending with the Superman and Clois stories, just in case the world ends and there is no season 9, but of course there will be a season 9. I am an eternal optimist. After all, I sat through season 7 for that exact reason and look what reward I got :D

Watch and pray, again

David Swimmer and the other producers have revealed that they have made initial plans to continue to story if season 9 is given greenlight, but have also made contingency plans for a final episode should season 8 be the last.
I mean, they do already have several storylines ready, which couldn't be solved before the end of the season (since Infamous was annoced, there's only seven unknown episodes, which has to involve the Doomsday storyline, Tess Mercer's storyline, Oliver Queen's storyline, John Jones getting his powers back, Brainiac's return in his humanoid form); Tess Mercer's Secret Society of Super Villans, a possible return of Maxima (they did say, they'd like to do more about her), reformation of the Justice League, return of Kara and possibly a storyline involving Kandor, What happend to Lex? And those are just the onces at present, the coming episodes of season 8 might present more. Then we also have got a few storylines, that hasn't been resolved, like Mikhail Mxyzptlk. When he last saw him, he had lost his powers and was taken to 33,1 by Lex, to regain them. Then it was stated in the Justice & Doom segment, that he had regained them (somewhere I believe it was stated he's more powerful then ever before). He should return to Smallville.
Then we also have got several unintroduced villans such as Parasite, Livewire, Ultra-Humanite and several others.
