Since LV is back as Kara, I'm sure people who are fan of kara will come back to watch her in this episode. Sincce Identity did extremely well in rating last week, im sure we can see a number close to 4.40 or maybe even higher!

With Clark and Lois in the PZ and the return of Kara, and last week being so good, I think the ratings will be nice. Also, DST has ended.
I predict between 4.26 and 4.35 million. But I hope it doesn't go below 4.20.

How can the CW stay on the airwaves with only 2 shows above 4 million, on average? I fear for Smallville, but not because of Smallville. This season is great, but can it keep DO and the CW afloat? Seems like TV viewership on the whole has declined over the past several years and not just SV viewership. For me, there has been a major decline in the quality of TV programming. I like seeing TW and the gang doing well and hope they do even better, but if the CW collapses, where will that leave the gang and their contracts? I'd hate for any of them to be stuck in contracts and then have the CW turn off the lights either before, or worse yet, midway through the season, thereby preventing the actors and other workers from getting work elsewhere.

Advertising dollars is my guess. That helps them out big time.

This is bad, isn't it?

Careful before celebrating folks. I think these numbers might adjust down a bit in the finals. They were missing the Denver market last night entirely, and so I think these numbers may not be entirely accurate.
But if they are...HURRAH!!! And I hope they are. I just don't want everyone to get so excited, and then disappointed.

If it falls a bit from 4.8, that's fine with me. It will still be a steady increase from last week, which is the most important thing. Next week, they'll be missing the New York market.

I don't think that will happen. I can see them breaking 5 million a couple of times in the next few episodes, but the second half of the year is still going to bring a huge decrease in the ratings, just like always. It would just be nice to get a couple of 5's now much like they were able to do last season to help balance everything out in the end.

Well even if it does about 4.5 on the finals(worst case scenario) all i have to say is...holy crap! What Smallville has accomplished this season is nothing short of amazing. Not many people were giving this show a chance of doing credible ratings. There is a very good chance that Bride will reach 5mil.If the CW doesn't drop the ball in terms of scheduling and there are no strike disruptions this year, the ratings will continue to be this high after the christmas break.

why r they missing markets
Thursday night football games have started up. The games are on the NFL network, which means that in the home markets, the games must also be shown on regular tv. Last night, Denver was airing the Broncos game on the CW I believe. Next week, for the Jets/Patriots game, that game will be shown on the CW in New York, which means that I have a lovely Saturday viewing of Smallville to look forward to.

I don't get it? Why would that change the ratings since it has different programming airing at that time? Would they still count the people viewing the game as Smallville viewers?
I thought it wouldn't make a difference because it is different programming and it wouldn't count those people watching the game on the CW at 8pm when the game was airing.

These first numbers you are getting are including the Denver market. But the Denver market wasn't watching SV (and SPN). So, the later numbers will show the adjustments once the Denver market is removed from SV's numbers. Hopefully it won't be a huge change, but Denver is a rabid football town, so it could be a few hundred thousand, and change the demographic by a bit. Sorry to be the voice of doom, but I just want to prepare folks in case the ratings are adjusted down by a bit. :)

Right. The finals later on will get rid of the Denver numbers, but that would also mean that when Smallville airs in Denver, those numbers would have to be put back into the rating. Of course, those Denver Smallville numbers won't be that high, especially since it's going to air on a Saturday, most likely.

The episode was great: Kara, Phantom Zone, history on Davis, Faora, Tess, Oliver, Chloe, and Clark. The show was well rounded - it didn't really evolve around one cast member. Storyline was great and it helped move along the story to the next three big episodes.

Well, that's awful for the people in Denver if they don't show Smallville on another night. I still think that they should air Smallville after the news next Thursday night in New York. I know that they have done that in other areas when a sporting event has interfered with their programming. Waiting until Saturday when the rest of the country has seen it already is ridiculous.

Even though we're going to see a decrease in the finals, I still think that 4.81 under these circumstances is awesome. Go Smallville! :D
I also believe that the CW's 2008 is schedule is going to help build ratings momentum. The last time we had the first nine episodes in a row was S4, and the last time we had the first 10 was S2 (the highest rated season ever). So I think it's possible that 8.10 could hit five million.
Now the CW needs to figure out a momentum building sked for the rest of the season.

Ratings: CBS wins another Thursday, but 'Smallville' continues to soar
Nov 7, 2008, 02:33 PM | by Aubry D’Arminio
Gasps all around: CBS topped Thursday yet again. (Yes, we know, shocker.) Survivor: Gabon (11.9 million viewers at 8 p.m.), CSI (18.1 million at 9 p.m.) and Eleventh Hour (11 million at 10 p.m.) dominated their time slots and helped the Eye bring in an average 13.8 million viewers for the evening, according to preliminary data. But the night’s big story was over at the CW, where little engines that could Smallville and Supernatural quietly continue to add to their numbers. Airing at 8 p.m., the Superman show (star Tom Welling is pictured) leaped to 4.8 million (up from last week’s 4.3 million), besting its season premiere. Then, at 9 p.m., Supernatural (3.7 million) was up for the third week in a row, also earning its best ratings since September

celita
11-07-2008, 04:33 PM
Difficult that Abyss makes a bigger number, the lack of an interesting promotion (no Clark in the trailer or clip, last time this happened was on Toxc and Toxic is so far the season's low in ratings) + the already mentioned preemption in New York its making almost impossible that Abyss tops Bloodline in numbers.

Rounding up the numbers to the nearest tenth, to give you an idea of how awesome S8's revitalization has been, Bloodline beat 13 of the 20 Season 7 episodes and tied Blue (4.5). It was under Wrath a year ago (4.6) but tied Rage from 2 years ago (4.5). It's the highest rated episode in almost exactly a year. It beat a number of episodes from Season 6, Season 5, Season 4 and even Season 3. And perhaps most impressive just for fun? It tied Legacy (4.5) which featured Christopher Reeve!
Big props to Smallville cast & crew!! You have again reinvented yourselves and made this show a force to be reckoned with!! Congratulations!! :)

Even though 4.81 would have been amazing,it would have been impossible for Abyss to top it.At least now it has a chance. It's much better to progress slowly than to do a high rating out of nowhere and then go back to mediocre ratings. However i must agree with another poster.Abyss has a tough job ahead. There will be no Kara,no Tess,no Green Arrow and no Lois. Also, the trailer doesn't put emphasis on Clark and we still haven't got a Director's cut.I really hope i am proven wrong.

This is most likely the case. Though I do expect the first number we hear to be high, like with this episode. But it will also adjust downward by quite a lot.
But hey, we knew this was coming, and the number is still the BEST of the season. For an 8th episode, basically airing with hardly any promotion, this is a great number! The reason for the ratings being so steady, and even climbing, is darn good word-of-mouth. It has to be. There can be no doubt that SV took a hit from losing Lana and Lex, but it seems to me that the numbers prove that the people that came back have stayed. I think PS3 must be very happy and proud of these numbers. The numbers prove that the majority of SV fans have embraced what they're doing with Clark and the supporting cast.

damn, it went down too much, still great ratings. Im worried though, I was talking with some friends about shows, one of them doesnt like Smallville and the other one is a casual viewer at best and surprisingly enough I wasnt the one to bring Smallville up but my casual viewer friend and he told the other one (I swear I had nothing to do with this) "you should check out Smallville, its really good now, no Lana, finally Clark is saving random people and Lois and Clark are starting to like eachother".
My friend is not a Superman fan, he´s probably seen the movies and watched a couple of cartoons, he checks SV on ocation but if the epi doesnt capture his intrest he´ll move onto something else, he´s not really invested in the show so I would consider him fairly unbiased, I cant say if my friend is a good example of a casual viewer but if he is, then Im really worried about the raitings when the season returns after the hiatus, 2 out of 3 of the improvements his enjoying will be MIA for 5 episodes.

Yeah. It would be great if the ratings that the Jets get can be added to Smallville. Heck, I think that I should at least be included in the final rating because I planned on watching both the Jets and Smallville.:)

Right you are. It was clear that this season was going to take a hit with the loss of the characters but credit needs to be given to TPTB for finding a way to get more viewers to tune in as the season has moved along.

But the 4.46 million is the amount of viewers who watched live+same day!

Sitcoms Online has posted fifteen minute breakdowns for last night. They show that SV either rose or held steady during each quarter hour. They also dispell the myth that SN drops in the halfhour breakdowns just because of a commercial break at the end--SN posted drops in every quarter hour.

The CW and the SV people really need to step it up next year though, because FOX is planning to moves Bones to Thursdays at 8 at midseason. The SV crew have to put everything in all of the episodes, and then hype those episodes online, on air, and in print. The CW needs to do a good job with scheduling and promoting the show. And then we need to do our part in spreading good word on this new season. :)

Apparently we are not the only ones who enjoy Smallville these days Thursdays episode, Bloodline was a big hit with viewers. Whatever they're doing the audience is eating it up. Congrats.
Here is an excerpt from Entertainment Weekly, "but the night’s big story was over at the CW, where little engines that could Smallville (http://www.ew.com/ew/allabout/0,,20000294,00.html) and Supernatural (http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/supernatural/index.html) quietly continue to add to their numbers. Airing at 8 p.m., the Superman show (star Tom Welling is pictured) leaped to 4.8 million (up from last week’s 4.3 million), besting its season premiere. Then, at 9 p.m., Supernatural (3.7 million) was up for the third week in a row, also earning its best ratings since September".
I am convinced that this is what audiences have been waiting for years from this show and producers are giving it to them in spades. Good stories, consistent characterization, a little romantic comedy here and there, great action, no Lana angst and a Superman series that's embracing its own mythos in full force.
I just hope the ratings don't sink when Lana shows up for those five episodes.:(
That woman could suck the life out the show in no time flat and you know her affect on Clark. I just hope Clark is able to keep his brain from being sucked dry.:rotfl:

Denver is airing Bloodline tonight (Saturday). Don't know how that will end up affecting the ratings, but at least it will be aired here, and I'll be watching, even though I caught it on iTunes yesterday. :)

Is everyone doing their bit and spreading the word on how awesome SV is doing these days? These ratings are absolutely amazing, especially when you consider it is now in its 8th season! Surely if the CW and Tom Welling are happy about the direction and ratings are doing, they will want to continue into season nine. Anyone know when they start deciding on future seasons? How about we start e-mailing the various entertainment mags and papers about how well SV is doing, which will encourage more readers to tune in to future episodes? Fan power is very strong! Look at the results for the old Star Trek for example, just from people writing in to the right places and this was back in the days of snail mail. We've got it much easier now, so let's all do it asap! Spread the good word.

This is good news. I expected lower ratings do to the phantom zone and kara. Let's hope my instincts continue to fail me, as i predict Abyss may not be an episode that keeps viewers tuning in. It's all about Chloe, which is great for long-time viewers, but doesn't pack the punch needed to keep viewers tuned into BRIDE. I fear Bride's ratings will be down because of Abyss.

I don't get it? Why would that change the ratings since it has different programming airing at that time? Would they still count the people viewing the game as Smallville viewers?
I thought it wouldn't make a difference because it is different programming and it wouldn't count those people watching the game on the CW at 8pm when the game was airing.
For Neilson ratings, every week households are selected randomly to represent their geographic area. You fill out a diary with exactly what you watched, when you watched it, and on what local channel. If Smallville was not aired in Denver, then no one in Denver could write in down in the Neilson diary.

I knew this would fare well. I said it would be higher than the Premiere. I fear Abyss will plummet slightly however, if one thing has been made obvious its that clois/lois promoted episodes increase in ratings and the ones where clois/lois promotion is absent decrease in ratings
I fear entire middle of the series where lois isnt present will decrease in ratings....She needs to be in more episodes and they might just pay for it when she's not there ....time will tell
1 Odyssey ~ *4.34 mil
2 Plastique ~ *4.18 mil.
3 Toxic ~ *4.05 mil.

seriously Ps3, its right there staring you in the face. LOIS LANE and CLOIS orientated episodes = ratings
non lois and non clois orientation = dip in the ratings,
maybe Abyss will make it clear to you and you'll seriously consider putting Lois in these Clana filled episodes and the rest of the season.
smallvillerocks45

While I do agree that there is a trend in which Clois centered episodes bring viewers and ratings, I have a feeling that there will be a surge of fan viewership when Lana returns. There are plenty of people who are just waiting for a little bit of Clana to return.
Now, of course, I don't think that alone will bring in ratings; we've got to have a good story too, but I don't think we'll see a drop in ratings because Lois isn't in those Clana episodes... they may just stay the same, but hey, if they amount to a number that is higher than the season premiere and better yet are close to 5 million, then I'm a happy camper!

By Bride, Lois will have appeared in 9 of the 10 episodes if I recall correctly.
After 8-14, the final episode that KK will appear in, there will be 8 eppies left. If ED is in all of them, she'll have 17 episodes this season. If there is an ninth season, and it's all up to Tom Welling, I think (given SV's ratings, it is getting stronger and is so far ahead of every other CW scripted show it's not even close), ED should be in every one of them.

4.46 is good. "Bloodline" is the most watched episode since last season's "Blue" (4.51).
.
I think it's hard to deny Kara was a factor here as well. Both these episodes prominently featured her, with "Blue" even featuring previous Supergirl Helen Slater. There is a Kara fan base. Now that's not to say there weren't Kara episodes of Season 7 that didn't fare so well in the ratings. I'm sure there were. I'm just saying I think fans tuning in to see her again played a part. That's all I want to say. I don't want to get into a pro-Kara, anti-Kara thing here as we all know there are factions of fans for certain aspects of the show (pro-Clana vs non-Clana, pro-Clois vs non-Clois, etc.), all of whom should be respected.

Glad to see Sarah Conner Chronicles picked up some viewers. A really good show that not many people are watching:confused: SpN didn't pick up very many.
Yay! Smallville:)

Thanks! 5.02 mil. is AWESOME! I loved Bloodline!
I know! If it keeps going like this, The CW would be stupid NOT to try and get everyone back for a 9th season...They don't have any other programs to anchor their thursday nights anyway except for SPN

Repeat of "Bloodline" Final rating:
Smallville (R)
- 2.090 million viewers
- 1.4/2 HH
- 0.7/2 A18-49
- 0.7/2 A18-34
Considering it was up against new AI and Survivor, not bad.
Probably still CW's #1 this week.
