Discuss the tunes, whether they be a score or songs.

I think they're saving up so that one day they can have an episode with music in every scene. :p

I noticed that in this episode there was a lot of those lingering crescendos at dramatic points when no one was talking, then they'd cut to a different scene and it'd be silent... that was kind of annoying me tonight, but good as usual other than that

There did seem to be non-score music in a couple of scenes - at the party on Ollie's jet and when Lois and Sebastian were having dinner. Anyone recognize either song?

Hmm, I don't know. I recognized one of the pieces from Season 5 (when Clark talks with Oliver towards the end).

What's the song playing in the background while Lois and Sebastian are at the Ace of Clubs? As near as I can tell it seems like the chorus is something like "living like a star / drink champagne (thanks enamored) and caviar", but a google search for those lyrics doesn't really bring up anything (even searching for just "champagne and caviar" or "living like a star" or any other tidbits I think I can pull out doesn't seem to bring anything close up).

I thought that the song in the background of Lois' date scene was kind of interesting but I was unable to find out what it is called or who it is by. Here is a link to the audio from that scene:

[Mod Edit]

Does anyone else like it, and does anyone know what the name of this song is?

No offense intended but you might try it again with the correct spelling of champagne. I don't know it that will give you better results or not.

No offense taken, and you're right. I had actually tried both spellings (the correct one, as you mentioned, champagne, and the incorrect, champaign). I was using champaign because I noticed a few lyrics sites that used the instance of "champagne" in a song that way.

Didn't have much luck with either spelling. Either way, I'm either totally mis-hearing the lyrics anyway (outside of the chorus most of it is indecipherable as there's dialogue over it) or it is a new song or something, as even looking for snippets of stuff doesn't seem to bring up much of anything.

new york london paris milan (lecture?/picture? me), living like a star drink champagne eat caviar

And i think at one stage it says "make love to me"

It sounds really good and i really wanna know :( Please, someone surely must know it!!!

Yeah, seems really bizarre...... unless maybe it's some unreleased song or just something so new that it hasn't had a chance to have its lyrics make it out. But if it's a brand new song, you'd sort of thing they'd be trying to sell it or something (although I guess if this was one of those deals where they are trying to promote a song, they would have made it more prominent than background music in a club).

Season 8 has been an overwhelming success thus far,but the musical score has been a disappointment.I don't think we have had a single song that has been played into a scene.Surely not one that has stood out.It has been mostly generic stuff.

oqllcksmallville

.. they haven't really had any like songs on .
but yeah , it's interesting .
- it has a pretty cool melody .
and I agree with costas22 ,
the season has been a tremendous hit but the music ? BOO !

I did a lot of research and came up with a band called Short Notice. Their song "You Wanted It" has some lyrics that seem to match what little of the song we can hear in the background at the club in "Identity". This is not the song we all heard but maybe this can help someone finally find it.

Lyrics

So you wanna be a star
Drink champagne eat caviar
Satin sheets and the shiny cars
But you still don't know who the hell you are

You wanted it

To reach the sky
You needed it to pacify
You wanted it to touch the sky
You needed it to never die
So you wanna sink the world
Pull the plug and watch it swirl
Give self destruction one more whirl
What's the good of an oyster with a broken pearl

Oh I don't know how to live
Help me
I don't know how to give
Help me

So you wanna be a star
Drink champagne eat caviar
Satin sheets and the finest cars
Somebody outta tell you who the hell you are

Interesting, the lyrics certainly sound similar. Haven't found the Short Notice song to hear it yet - but I guess it isn't inconceivable that a different song could have similar lyrics..... champagne and caviar are pretty commonly paired with each other, and it's not a huge leap from there to rhyme it with something to do with being a star.

Btw, seems like we're not the only ones trying to figure out what the song is. Googling for the lyrics now also brings up a Yahoo Answers question (which hasn't specifically been answered yet other than some general suggestions for sites to check out that cover songs used in tv shows):

The Short Notice song sounds nothing like the song we're looking for. I spoke to a friend of mine who is fluent in the "hot" media area of business and he told me, that if that many people are looking for it, and no one has found it yet, it's probably some local group who might have actually been performing at the club the night they shot that scene. We may never find it...:(:(:(

I'm pretty sure it sounds like recorded music though, not something from a live band.

And the "Ace of Clubs" is just a Smallville set, right?

You'd really think someone at Smallville would know what the music they used was.

As always, the song title and artist is up over at The Definitive Smallville Soundtrack.

I guess it's Luxury by Matthew Gerrard?

Any info on what this song is. Googling for him, it seems like he's a songwriter, not a performer, so I can't find a specific album.

Couldn't find lyrics either.

Any hints on where to buy this song?

elektrix

The song is handled (as is 99% of this season's music) by Warner's in-house music production company, Telepictures. The song is streamable at telepicturesmusic dot com. Click on "SAMPLE TRACKS", then on "Electro-Pop". "Luxury" is the second track on the list. Performers with Telepictures are privately and exclusively employed for music for television placement only, so the only artist information that is appropriate to list is the composer of the track.

Ahh, cool, thanks.

So I guess the killer question here is, does Telepictures sell any of this music to the public? Somehow I'm guessing not, but it seems kind of silly for them to have this music out there, even use it in shows, but then not give fans who like it a way to buy it.

It almost sounds then like it isn't a full song even, I guess this is music solely intended for being like background music.

Seems like a shame, seems like a nice track, and I bet it would sell if they made a full version of it and released it.

elektrix
11-13-2008, 01:56 PM
It's a full version, it's just not a long or (as you can see) very complicated track. And yes, Telepictures is only intended for background music within TV shows, hence they are not in the business of selling music to consumers, only placing it for networks.

Cool, thanks croweyes....... nice to know what it is. Learned something new, didn't occur to me they actually had this whole in-house company set to create music just for this kind of purpose. But it makes sense, rather than paying to license music all the time.

Definitely nice to know we all weren't crazy though when we were looking for this by googling lyrics and nothing came up. I'm disappointed it isn't a real song, but also at least glad to know I'm not nuts.

Guess it's a longshot, but seems like a nice enough little song....... would still be nice to see them turn it into a normal full length pop song.

Wow. Thanks heaps for this information and finding it. It was killing me!!!!

Yeah, if this song was made full length and released, it would make a KILLING!!!

It's sooooo goood. Dunno if i should be saying this, but if you'd rather not have to stream it all the time you can download audacity, and get a small plugin which converts songs to mp3, and simply listen to the song while the program records it and rip it to mp3. :p

I've been looking for this song ever since I heard it!

I couldn't tell you why, but when I tried to stream it, it sounded terrible with varying pitch and tempo possibly due to my slow internet connection. I traced the source of the stream to this link, so you won't have the problem I had:

If anyone finds a full version, it would be great to hear about it!

::nearly at a loss for words::

THAT ***IS*** THE ENTIRE VERSION, PEOPLE!!!

I'm not trying to be a prick here, but there are only so many ways I can say the same thing. The song is one minute and 26 seconds long. It was produced as a 1:26 piece of music. It was recorded as 1:26. It *ends* at 1:26. Period. It's not that an entire version isn't out there, folks, it is simply a short track. I know it's hard to believe, but not every song is over three minutes long. lol

Ok, bro sorry for making you angry but you just missunderstood me, (sorry for my bad english it aint direcly A material)

Ive understood it's the complete version of it but what I was trying to say was that it's too bad it wasent a "normal" song that was about 3 minutes long. That was all i was trying to say, :<
