View Full Version : Possible codenames for Clark's temporary super hero identity?

In this episode, Oliver will pretend to be Clark, in order to help him keep his secret identity. Since TW doesn't wanna wear the Superman suit, it's possible that he'll wear this instead for the remaining of the Season/series, whenever Clark ends up in a situation, where he can't just super speed through a room. Presumably, this temporary will recieve a codename of sorts from the Daily Planet. What do you think he'll be called?
Personally, I think they'll use some other alias, Superman has used in the comics; Nightwing, Gangbuster and Supernova (to make a reference to the comics). I've picked ''Supernova'', since it's very similar to ''Superman''.

They should stick with "Boyscout"....maybe the paper calls him the "Big Blue Boyscout" or just the "Blue Boyscout"...
I would like to see Clark come up with it for an article He or Lois writes...

It would probably see something like this, Chloe and Jimmy would be debating the name for this hero, Chloe says "Jimmy, he goes by the name boyscout, thats what he told to all the people he saved", Jimmy goes "Chloe i just don't think the name fits the description, Boyscout Chloe come on, it sounds like something from a comic book" Chloe then rolls her eyes and smiles. Jimmy goes "plus Chloe he's not just normal, he's super fast and strong, boyscount sounds too plain...hey what about superboyscout? Chloe looks up to him and says "Jimmy, just leave it alone, just go by what he calls himself" Jimmy says "well what if we just shorten it or change it abit, ya know so it doesn't sound so childish, heheh. Chloe says "like what, superscout, she giggles" Jimmy goes "Hey, what about superboy? Chloe says "Hey, that describes him very well, and what he is, umm...but he's not boy jimmy"...Jimmy goes "well ya i guess your right Chloe, then how about Superman"....They both look at eachother and smile, as if the both agree its perfect for a headline or the name of this mysterious savior.

No. Lois names him Superman. I think it'll be Boy Scout, or something else. He will NOT be Superman until the end of the series when LOIS names him.

yes Lois has to name him that never changed. She named him in lois and clark too right?
as far the poll goes i like boy scout or i'll take one from sonic the hedgehog and modify it, the blue and red blur

"The Metropolis Marvel" or some other nickname that Superman is later known by. Personally, I think Metropolis Marvel would be the best in this situation because it's general enough. Man of Steel or Man of Tomorrow wouldn't quite fit here.

Caped Wonder?
In Superman 1, It was after his initial appearance, when Perry was showing the reporters all the headlines, telling them they needed to get the interview. I think before Lois coined him as Superman, the Daily Planet (I think) called him Caped Wonder in the headline.

Well yeah, the headline famously reads "Caped Wonder Stuns City", but no one actually called him "The Caped Wonder" or anything. It was more "that guy," and then Lois named him Superman really soon after his first appearance, so the "that guy" phase only lasted a day or two.

Why is EVERYONE forgetting that Lois IS IN THIS EPISODE!!! Jimmy is only a photographer, Tess might ask Lois to write an article and she might choose "Superman!!!!"
Sheesh, brush up on your guys history.
This is Smallville and it doesn't necessarily follow what the 'history' of Superman is to the T. They stray with their own ideas and so I will be surprised if they give us 'Superman' even just in print this quickly.

Nightwing was a Kryptonian legend before Supes gave the name to Grayson
I think Samaritan is perfect. Not Superman, but reminiscent, honest, and more noble-sounding than "boy scout"

i was watching superfriends today, the one where superman, aquaman and wonder woman get whisked off to the planet Oz. Mykzptlk turns them into tin man, scarecrow and cowardly lion. then he proceeds to say "i guess you aren't the man of steel anymore now you're just the man of tin!(evil laugh)"
i say we call him the man of tin cause he's not full-fledged superman yet.

The Crimson Blur? How about the Caped Crusader? Up to this point I don't think anyone really even knows Superdude is actually a guy. They're all just making a sexist supposition, aren't they?
I think Jimmy should insist on calling him Wonder Man. Lois, who joins Jimmy in his search for the Blur, will only call him Super Dude. They could compromise and call him Super Man. Which sounds way better than WonderDude. LOL!

I wouldn't mind Nightwing, but DC may feel it'd cause confusion should they pursue a Dick Grayson in the future. So though it might sound feminine, I'd choose Flamebird, the other hero of Krypton.

Clark would find that as ridiculous as the red cape. I'm not making fun of you, just that name. It has certain, um, connotations now that perhaps it did not have when it first appeared in the comics.

:)
Well, Jimmy Olsen originally used Flamebird (Clark went by Nightwing) in Kandor pre-Crisis (stories were published in the '60s, IIRC). Lois Lane has also been Flamebird, as I recall -- I think that's the retcon of how the current Flamebird found out about the name.
But the current Flamebird is Bette Kane, sort of. She's always in character limbo. Supergirl was Flamebird recently in Kandor (with Power Girl as Nightwing).
But maybe because I always associate the name with Bette, I'd agree that it doesn't fit Clark. :) To me, it's a girl name....
Besides, Clark has always been Nightwing, with his companion (Jimmy, Lois) going as Flamebird.
I voted for Nightwing as a nice nod to the comics, but I understand how it wouldn't work. But I didn't like any of the choices.

Boy Scout has already been established as a codename for Clark (it was given to him by The Justice League in Justice). I like that, personally.
But before he dons the tights he could be referred to as the "Secret Samaritan" which would be a nice keeping with the S and also a nod to Astro City and it's Superman knock-off Samaritan.

What makes the most sense in the context of the show right now would be "The Blur" or "The Samaritan." "The Blur" because that is what the front page photo shows, and "The Samaritan" because that's what the press had been calling him prior to the photo. Anything else would be too lengthy or random. He is going to be nicknamed by the public or the press, regardless of the fact that the JL has codenamed him, "Boyscout."

Hasn't it already been established that they call him both the 'The Good Samaritan' and 'The Red/Blue Blur'? I think Red/Blue blur is hilarious actually- and its fitting because the only reason that Clark hasn't been discovered is that he's that fast no one catches a glimpse of his face.

11-06-2008, 09:56 AM
Stick with "Big Blue Boy Scout." It's what he's been called the most on the show so far. He's not flashy or explosive enough to go with Supernova (I'm reading 52 & I just got to that character), & he doesn't know enough about the history of Krypton yet to come up with Nightwing. At some point he needs to start wearing his family crest, which looks an awful lot like the letter "S" to us humans, so Lois can come up with "Superman" at the appropriate time.

"Boyscout" is representative of what he does, so I don't think it would be too much of a reach for the press to come up with it, even though they don't know that's also what Oliver called him. "The Blur" sounds pretty good, too, though--I'd go with that, except it sounds very similar to "The Flash" & only recognizes one of his superpowers. I wouldn't expect them to call him "the Samaritan" because not everyone knows the parable, & he's not from Samaria or half-Jewish.

Boyscout and Good Samaritan (or Secret Samaritan) could work...but hey, if Lois is calling him "Superdude," how long until "Superman?"
That probably wouldn't count as a violaton of the "No tights" clause of the "No flight, no tights" rule...hell, Lana flat-out asked him if he was man or Superman in the first episode.
He needs to demonstrate more than just super speed, though; if he's not careful, Bart Allen could swoop in and take his place.:lol:
