I'm just happy that all our previous episodes are above 4mil, and with last weeks trailer for Identity I dont have any doubts at all that the ratings will be above 4mil!

ClarkyBoy14
10-30-2008, 07:48 PM
I'm hoping for at least 4.2 million. :)

Let's see...

- It's coming off of a great episode.
- The trailer was good.
- The World Series is over, so FOX is airing, I believe, low-rated Hole in the Wall.
- It didn't seem to make much of a difference, but TWC is now airing LIN-TV owned CW affiliates again, after three weeks of taking them off.

^I agree with all of the reasons. Especially because of the trailer hinting so much at Superman. :D

I always hope for the best. Since last week the estimations were wrong, here's hoping that won't happen this week. I'm going to predict 4.2 million - and I won't be sad, if it "falls" to 4.16 again. As long as SV maintains its viewership and remains above 4 mil (and it has so far), then I'm happy.

Supernatural was the only thing I watched on TV last night. And I was expecting it to be fluff, Halloween filler, but it surprised me. Not fluff, not filler. It got a 2.5/4 (household rating/share) in the early metered market numbers. That’s in the typical range of less than Smallville (3.1/5) but more than Gossip Girl got on Monday in the same early metered markets.

Fox, which would have preferred a game seven of The World Series, filled the night with two repeat episodes of Kitchen Nightmares (#4: avg. 2.7/ 4 from 8-10 p.m.). And the CW capped off Thursday with veteran Smallville (3.1/ 5), which is still vying for a spot next season, and Supernatural (#5: 2.5/ 4), which still works relatively well at 9 p.m. despite the hefty competition. Looking ahead, there is no reason to believe the CW will abandon its strategy of airing sci-fi dramas on Thursday next seaso

A 3.1/5 sounds higher than usual. they usually just lump CW's early share together.

The fact that the ratings are slowly creeping up every week is a good sign. I believe with some real publicity and promotion, not just internet stuff, a lot more people would tune in this season.

For example, if Tom Welling did interviews or something like that.

Kevin24
10-31-2008, 10:48 AM
I hope the final rating doesn't go down like it did last week.

I like that the ratings keep going up every week and it might even match the season premiere's numbers eventually. If people stuck around for the previews for next week I'm sure they will tune in to see Lois and Clark in the Phantom Zone as well as Kara's reappearance!

Has an episode during the season ever done better ratings wise then a season premiere? The way things are going I think it might happen.

I think there are two things that have to do with the ratings upward creep. First and foremost is the fact that the writing, plots, characters, action, photography, sfx, and all that go into a good series have been consistently excellent this season.

The second part of the sustained and growing viewership has to do with the way the episodes have been presented back-to-back. SVille has taken hits in past seasons when they piecemealed episodes. Even following a strong episode, when a break occurred and repeats were aired, the next new episode always seemed to lose viewers.

This season has been phenominal and extremely enjoyable to me. It's quality is as high or higher than its ever been and the continuity is really very strong this season. All those aspects have translated into a season that is building in its momentum toward the season (and hopefully not series) finale.

Bravo to PS3 for raising the bar and steadily raising the viewership numbers.

I definitely agree. As a fan from the beginning the continuity this season is simply super. Clark is moving in the right direction, Lois and Clark are doing their well known dance, and the FOTW's, when on, are utilized in a much improved way. Smallville is finally hitting it's stride. Too bad it took eight seasons; people might not have left if we consistently had this quality in years prior.

Looking forward to seeing the final numbers. I suppose these are not it. And it would be impossible to imagine that Identity's numbers could decrease. I expect an increase.

It's not a coincidence that the ratings go up with each episode. We finally got a chance to view 10 episodes in a row and we are really benifiting from that.If it reaches 4.3 in the finals,it will be great.Bloodline has a great challenge ahead of it.Last year the Kara and Krypton heavy episodes had a tendency to drop a bit in the ratings.

That's because they came right after:

A premiere-numbers always drop.
A filler episode, albeit a good one- ratings after these never fair too well.
A Clana fest- ratings have a tendency to drop after these.
A Stride commercial- despite Pete's awesomeness, no one likes to watch a 45 minute commercial, unless its about Obama.
A Sleeper episode- Didn't do so bad being 150 and all.

The Kara episodes were generally pretty good, its just that they were sandwiched in with episodes that were not exactly ratings drivers.

This is from Zap 2 it. I don't know how to translate the ratio into millions though.

That's the same exact ratio they earned last week.

^ Technically, "Prey" was a dip, wasn't it?

*Smallville S8 Finals:
#1 Odyssey ~ *4.34 mil & Live+7= 4.80 mil.

#2 Plastique ~ *4.18 mil. & Live+7= 4.78 mil.

#3 Toxic ~ *4.05 mil. & Live+7= 4.61 mil.

#4 Instinct ~ *4.12 mil. & Live+7= 4.71 mil.

#5 Committed ~ *4.18 mil.

#6 Prey ~ *4.15 mil.

If "Identity" does not go down, then we'll have increased quite a bit from the last episode. But we all thought that "Prey" was 4.22... so it may very well be that we'll go down from 4.24 in this one. Although, I hope not.

I know these are modest ratings by television standards. And I know its not as high as previous seasons. But I have to say that I'm so loving that SV is maintaining itself so strongly. We were going to take an initial hit. I think that much was assured. But to see the show so sure and steady after reading so many comments from naysayers, so sure that the show was going to sink like a stone (and yeah, my fault for letting that get to me)....it just makes me :D

I do think the long hiatus is going to be a real buzzkill though, because you now the CW isn't going to lift a finger to publicize the shows return :(

They may... they have increased their promotion for "SV" a bit, this year. Also, they can't be blind to the fact that it's the highest rated show.

What I'm loving is that the highest rated episodes are the ones that feature Iconic Clark Kent very heavily in the promos. Both "Toxic" and "Prey" were episodes that were focused on characters other than Clark -- and they're the lowest rated.

How long is the hiatus going to be? I heard 13 weeks but that is way to long!

Here's all we have at K-Site:

"Bloodline" - 11/06/08
"Abyss" - 11/13/08
"Bride" - 11/20/08

Break

"Legion" - Air Date Unknown
"Power" - Air Date Unknown

Traditionally, "SV" comes back on air in January. January 31st in Season 7, January 11th in Season 6, January 12th in Season 5.

One thing to note, though, is that they aren't airing a December episode this year... usually they do.

So, chances are pretty high that they'll air "Legion" on January 8th, because I can't imagine that they'll wait longer than they have to.

If that's the case, then we won't have any new episodes from 11/20/08 through 1/8/09... which makes sense because it's basically Thanksgiving through New Year's.

I think they're not airing a December episode this year because they started the season 1-2 weeks earlier than usual. I guess it's okay as long as they start at the 1/8/09 date that you suggested.

If I were in charge of the CW, I would put together an awesome trailer for the 2009 episodes and air it after "Bride," and then continue to show it through December. I would return SV on January 8, like eas said.

That's what they did for Seasons 5 and 6, and the January-February run did great.

* - Final Rating

The live+7 ratings were about the same as this Season, close to 1 mil. more per episode.

Season 7 was very uneven. I don't think we'll have such lows this season. So far, all of the episodes have stayed above 4 million and there has been a consistent run withOUT repeats. And then there is an obvious difference/improvement in quality and consistency. I think people are actually hearing some buzz about SV despite the CW's inexplicable inability to advertise and they might just start looking for it when it comes back after the New Year. The numbers for all of November should tell us more. Also, I'm hoping to finally see some ads for Smallville before it starts airing new episodes on a regular basis to drum up interest for the rest of the season. They've certainly saved advertising dollars so far. At least for Smallville. I also like the idea of a January 8th start date. Anything longer would be intolerable.

And 4.34? Identity deserved every bit of that number. And more. Go season 8!

10 new Episodes in a row is such a good idea. I can't believe we have only 3 more till the break! It's gone by so fast!
I hope the SV Cast also get a long break, they deserve it:)

It has been a marvelous idea and ITA, these last few weeks have flown by. Too bad Clark still isn't because it would be very apropos.

I hope they have a good break as well, but not too long! :lol:I want more of the super stuff that they're doing this season! I'm addicted. :p

nice! 4.34 mil..
GO you good thing. :)

Well done to PS3. The accelerated journey to Clark's destiny is keeping an excellent core of SV viewers together.

And Asstroff has the gall to cut SV's budget and order extra epis of GG, OTH and 90210. Chloe-iac should pay her a visit. :D

If I were in charge of the CW, I would put together an awesome trailer for the 2009 episodes and air it after "Bride," and then continue to show it through December. I would return SV on January 8, like eas said.

That's what they did for Seasons 5 and 6, and the January-February run did great.

I hope they do that!

I knew about the extra episodes but SV´s budget was cut?? Jeez I hate that woman as much as she obviously hates Smallville and Supernatural, fortunately she doesnt have the final say on things and has a board and WB to controll her. I do how ever think she should be fired, not cause she´s underminding my favorite shows but for the lack of profesionalism she´s showing, I mean really, whether she personally likes the show or not shouldnt affect her decisions as CEO for the greater beneffit of the network. If I was in her place and GG was getting Smallville like raitings, even though I hate GG Id promote the hell out of it, cause its bussines you ignorant b***h! Seriously I think right now, not even Clana is as dangerous as this girl is.

How long is the hiatus going to be? I heard 13 weeks but that is way to long!

They stay off the air as long as American Idol is on on Thursday nights. I hate it but I understand it. If we can determine when AI stops the Thursday night broadcast which is after they pick the top ten then we can gauge when SV will return.

ITA. To add to that, I would have the showrunners, and the actors, do another round of the interview circuit. Just to get that excitement level back up.

That's a great idea. Have tons on-air and online interviews like they did before the season started. They also need to drum up a ton of interest for the LOSH, Doomsday, Brainiac, return of Lana, AM's directorial debut, etc.

This just proves with a stronger marketing effort, they could probably reach the 5 million viewer mark by seasons end.

If CW doesn't pick up Season 9, that network deserves to close. Smallville with a marketing push from one of the major networks could probably do what Heroes does in the ratings. I can't believe we had to sit through 3 seasons of mediocrity to get what we are watching now.

I don't blame him. That is VERY shocking news. But if Smallville were to go to season 9 (please), I would LOVE for him to come back. From what I remember, he also thinks Erica is a terrific Lois Lane; more positive news for me as a Lois fan.

Crossing fingers for a good Live + 7 rating for Committed, and if Identity gets a 5 million rating, I won't need an airplane to fly, I'll be so ecstatic. And I would want to rub it in a certain female CW executive's face.

I think they're not airing a December episode this year because they started the season 1-2 weeks earlier than usual. I guess it's okay as long as they start at the 1/8/09 date that you suggested.

BTW, I think you forgot Bulletproof in the episode titles. :)

LOL... Must have been a Freudian slip (I'm trying to blank out any episode that involves a Lana kiss, with no Lois around. LOL)

Those numbers are good. I'd like to see the ratings climb to over 4.5 million at the end of this current run of episodes. The ratings for Abyss will be very interesting. Everyone who lives in New York, including myself, and New England will not see it because the Jets/Patriots will be on that night. Those are two huge markets. Now I have to try and figure out when my local CW affiliate will be airing it. I'm a Jets fan so I was going to watch the game anyway, but I was hoping to have Smallville ready for me on the dvr after the game. Not going to happen.

Thanks to talk about that, I wonder for a moment, why TW is never interviewed ? We don't see him anywhere . Is it a kind of marketing ? You know, let the main actor outside everything to let people think of him as CK or something like that (it is too complicated to me to explain exactly what I mean in english, I hope you understand):)
