I'll update the post later with a review (maybe tomorrow morning after I get it from iTunes).

I vote 10. I can't complain about anything on the show. All the segments were great. The ending gets a 10 all by itself.

I can't believe how awesome this episode was. It was perfect to me. The writing, the story, the foreshadowing. Everything you expect from Smallville when it's done right. I LOVED it and haven't said HELL Yeah at the TV in a long time and I watch every episode. LOL

What a friggin' exhilarating episode! MY GOD...the ending rocked me to the core! What a bombshell...Chloe is Brainiac! And SHE KILLED the guy! Talk about evil!
This is seriously the best season EVER! Speechless really....
I definitely applaud the new writers...BRAVA! :D

I thought it was a bit slow at first but then picked up at the end quite nicely so I didn't vote 10. Really loved all the hints at Superman in this one. Lois was hilarious and I loved how she knew who Sebastian was right from the beginning. I think I liked Chloe's first Braniac moment. It was conflicted. She's definitely evil while at the same time trying to protect Clark's secret. Loved the intersecting scenes of Oliver saving Jimmy with Clark saving Lois.

Clark never changing his wardrobe has FINALLY caught up with him! Get a different jacket!
I thought it was average overall but there was some good stuff, namely the ending and the stuff with Ollie. I thought Clark was being a douche throughout about his identity though he had reason to be paranoid. I thought though he should have trusted Jimmy but I can understand him not wanting to get more people involved. Especially in a world where guys like Sebastian have the power to read minds.
Jimmy was used pretty well for the second straight week. That's a plus too.

The very BEST so far! That ending was so unexpected, too. Very exciting episode, no boring moments, great interplay between Ollie and Clark and foreshadowing of Superman was simply wonderful!!! I truly LOVED this episode most by far for this season.

Another excellent 9.5 episode. Great to see the Superman mythos developing right before our eyes. And since this has never really been done much either in movies or television, the unique take by SV writers is refreshing, creative and highly entertaining. Clark is no longer one dimensional--this guy has some depth as he seeks to discover who he is. I thought that the interaction of Jimmy, Clark and Lois gave us the comfortable partnership of the old Superman TV series version of the characters. What a great season--please, please, please, give us Season 9!

I will post a longer review tomorrow. I have to watch again. Loved the directing.
Loved:
Lois and Clark's verbal dance at the end
Chloe (not Brainiac) killing FOTW
Jimmy (shocker)
Oliver and the cape
Lois being competant but still managing to land in danger (classic Lois)
Clark in a color other than blue and red
Clark expecting Chloe to lie to Jimmy for him, bad form, dude
Didn't like:
Some of the camera shots
Oliver's 'tude with Clark, but he made up for it
To be honest, I didn't really see a jealous Clark as much as I thought they were going to play it, and I liked that. They are keeping it nice and slow.

Well, I will need another viewing before I vote, it was a pretty good episode, I didn't care for the FOTW, but they needed someone to kill off, so I guess he was necessary.
I wanted Clark to at least toss the cape over his shoulder at the end.

I gave this episode an '8', but that score could definitely go up depending on how some of the storylines are resolved. I have to admit that this episode was not at all what I thought it would be, but I thought that it was nice to see someone be so close to Clark's secret without knowing everything about it. In addition, it makes sense that Jimmy would be the one to discover something like Clark's secret, because it can definitely cause tension between Chloe and Jimmy.
One thing that I picked up on which I found to be interesting was the exchange between Clark and Oliver regarding the cape. Clark said that he doesn't think he'll wear the cape "in this lifetime," and while this quote probably means nothing, to me it sounded like foreshadowing that Clark might die at the hands of Doomsday and then come back, maybe at the beginning of the next season - assuming there is one. Even if this quote means nothing, I still thought it was a nice touch.
Overall, a great episode with a genuinely shocking ending!

Who was that gorgeous guy who was playing Sebastian? Can we keep him? I would so love to see him on future episodes. I'd love to know more about his character. So good! Best episode in a while, as far as I'm concerned. Loved the Lois and Clark and Jimmy stuff. Chloe was awsome! Glad to see Oliver back. That is the kind of story that I liked to see on Smallville! Good stuff!

I'd never thought season 8 would be that great! It's so much better than season 7. This episode is awesome! Season eight is so good, first Clark made a huge transition from being a reporter, and now he's getting closer and closer to reaching his destiny. Especially in this episode where he realizes he shouldn't secretly save ppl and STEP UP like Ollie said.

It was absolutely a great episode!! As mentioned before it started off a little slow but i think the writers did an excellent job keeping us in our seats to watch what was coming up next; They definetely didn't dissapoint. The final scene was so twisted and epic... i was all like WTF CHLOE??
I gave it a 9 because of the lack of CLOIS moments, *yes im a cloiser* but i understand that they can't just clog the entire episode with CLOIS sooo yeah >.> whatever little CLOIS I got this episode made me happy till next week.

Loved it! Loved all the foreshadowing, like Clark telling Oliver he won't don the cape 'in this lifetime' and the 'faster than a speeding bullet' line in the DP. Thought it was funny though...was that the Ace of Clubs? If it was, then how did they rebuild it that fast? That had me LOL'ing. Was shocked that Chloe actually went Brainiac on the FOTW, but I understand why she did it. Best ep I've seen in a while, might go back and watch it again tonight! Can't wait til next week when we see Kara again.

I thought for sure Sebastian would end up becoming a good guy at the end of the episode, and would be the one who took away Jimmys memory of uncovering Clark's secret. I'm glad they didnt go that route. Amazing episode. The scene where Oliver was basically dressed as Superman gave me chills.

I thought it was great but I do give it a 8 - 8.5, all around it was great....the moment between Lois and him when she was getting ready was funny, Oliver macking with the females was excellent plus they were fine (btw I thought he was more pissed because of the wedding announcement, lol) but the 2 best scene's were when Clark look over everyone's response of seeing a hero and the Chloe acting crazy at the end.....2 great moments....what I do not like is that they continue shooting on the same street, same club, same everything lol.....people let's spread it around a bit....different locations please lol....but again it was nice episode...

I loved a lot of the Clark/Superman stuff in this episode, but the episode as a while felt a bit disjointed and stilted to me. I don't think it was our SV actors finest hour by a long shot. Everyone just seemed a hair off to me.
I've been enjoying the Clark/Lois banter stuff so far this season, because I thought they were bringing a nice balance to it, but in this episode I found myself annoyed with the meaness of some of the remarks. There's a fine line between banter and belittling, and I think this episode missed that mark.
I also thought the Clark/Oliver scenes didn't quite hit the mark either. I can't put my finger on what was off, but I guess I was just hoping that this storyline between them was going to be bigger, and more important, and instead it was a one-off, and neatly tied up by the end. So much for Clark being the heroic role model for an Oliver who lost his way. It was a good concept, with a disappointing execution.
I wasn't quite sure how I felt about Clark's reaction to Jimmy's picture at first, but I thought the episode did a nice job of fleshing out his position as the episode went on. I think, finally, they've sort of explained why Clark was more comfortable saving in the shadows...he's afraid of exposing his secret to people and them getting hurt because of it. I like that reasoning. And I like that he came around on his own at the end, due to his own experiances and decisions, not because anyone told him what he should do. It put the earlier conversation with Chloe in a far more favorable light.
I actually liked Jimmy a lot in this episode, but I think someone would have to be blind to not see that Chloe is still not putting Jimmy ahead of Clark in the priority list of her life. But still, we finally got some foundation for a Jimmy/Clark friendship, and it was SO overdue. I may actually be able to picture these 2 being friends in the future.
The Lois/Sebastian stuff was alright, and I think Lois took a big risk doing what she did, but the risk made sense. And she's the one female on this show that convincingly kicks butt, IMO. And I did like that she realized that she'd been saved "the blur" twice. Whatever ones feelings on Lois, its hard to argue that her determination to get that interview isn't Lois Lane right out of the comic books.
Tess is very bad, but she's fun to watch, and is a very enjoyable addition to the show.
And I just don't know what to think about Chloe killing that guy in the hospital at the end. Who was the guy supposed to have touched? I didn't get that. But, I think we can now say that Brainiac is in da house (and by house, I mean Chloe's brain).
Ultimately, its a 7.

That was the awesome Kyle Schmid. He was Henry Fitzroy in the tv series version of Tanya Huff's Blood Ties. He's been in other stuff too, don't remember at the moment.
Unfortunately, it looks like he has had a fatal virus downloaded into him.
I loved the episode-10. Lots of Superman anvils littering the place. Wheee!!
Oliver was a jerk but despite the short amount of screen time he got a lot of great lines:
re cape: I kind of liked it; sure helped with the aerodynamics. You should give it a try.
re flying: You just have to get in the right frame of mind to fly the friendly skies.
re Lois: Clark, you made out with my girlfriend, man, what do you have to complain about?
Looks like Ollie is realizing that he still likes to be a superhero too but he's still not past pushing Clark to be one either. Chloe and Oliver giving Clark ideas about a dual identity and costume. Ollie had to go with a mask; Clark won't need one.
Great guest/villain too. I suspected that Lois would suspect Sebastian. I actually had a hunch that paid off!
Lois and Clark and clothing; dressed or undressed, it's going to be fantastic. Loved the individual perspectives on zipping Lois up. I don't think Clark wanted to...
Chloeiac-fiendish fun and a devilish twist. Brainiac in a Chloe shell saving Clark's identity at his request by mindwiping Sebastian, ooh irony. I highly doubt that Clark will like Brainiac's means.
Jimmy-without Chloe he's a stand up guy.
Tess: more continuity with her commenting about Clark's biggest by-line being a kitten adoption fest story. She's a good bad girl and just about as fun to watch as Lex.
Seeing Clark listening to the people say "look, up there in the sky, wow, oh wow, man that's wild." Clark is starting to think about more than just his destiny saving people, giving them hope.
And Lois is now the pitbull on a poodle. She's after that red and blue streak. Also her twist on saving Clark Kent twice too was awesome. Little did she know that she saved Clark from Sebastian by not letting them shake hands. And by not divulging her suspicion to Clark, putting him in harm's way, he was able to deceive Jimmy AND save her.
Okay, Cedric. I'm waiting. I know it's gonna be a doozy!

Just when I was beginning to loose faith in Smallville, THIS episode restored all my hope and faith. FINALLY. THIS is the Smallville I have been missing. Whata KNOCKOUT episode. It was filled with so many referances of the future Superman that we know Clark will become, even Lois had some wonderful moments. The lines were BRILLIANT.
Lois telling about her palm reading, when it was predicted that she would fall for a guy who flies alot and wear tights. LOL. THAT was hysterical.
Clark telling Oliver to next time, ditch the cape, and Oliver saying it gave him air-o- dynamics (spelling?).
And then to end it on that scene with CHLOE, tapping into the dark side. That was AWESOME!

Great episode and the title "Identity" fit so well. Clark's identity in jeopardy and realizing he could give hope to the world. Ollie realizing he needs to step back into his Green Arrow identity. Chloe's identity being invaded by Brainiac. That was a great ending and completely unexpected. I like surprises like those. I liked how Clark was protective about Jimmy learning his secret and maybe getting hurt because of it. Always love Clark saving the day. Poor Lois had to be saved twice in one episode. She attracts trouble. All the actors did a great job. I give it a 10.

I was so ready to see this episode as just another FOTW, or another silly story of a lame kind to make Jimmy go away embarrassed and Clark and Chloe would come up with some storyline that would explain everything away. But, before the show was half over, it completely took off in a great Superman direction. Great episode. I would argree with most letters I've read and rank this episode as the best this season and in my opinion, one of the highest ranking episodes as far as Superman lore within the entire series.

10-30-2008, 08:49 PM
I think that there was a lot to like about this episode: lois getting her dress zipped, the fantastic exotic brunette on the right hand side of Oliver in the plane, ClarkMan becoming aware of the possibility of a greater destiny, Oliver admitting that who he really is is Green Arrow (which I take that Superman is really Superman and not Clark Kent, but that is not on Smallville), Chloe showing yet once again her absolute loyalty to ClarkMan, the coldness of Tess (she is a very good bad woman), and Brainiac showing an influence over Chloe in her elimination of a problem character.

Oookkkaaayyy. My love for SV is definitely returning, starting with this episode. I give this one a very high 8 because there were a lot of "super" elements like....
1. Jimmy acting like Jimmy. AA did a real good acting job in this episode. The whole scene when he was at the farm with CK and the Good Samaritan theory he had started to make sense to him... The way his eyes lit up when he came up with his thesis and conclusion; well it just warmed my little heart.
2. The whole Lois and CK babble. Their quips to each other were hilarious. TW and ED are terrific.
3. CK showing "concern" for Lois. I'm starting to see that and a little more than "concern" on his face.
4. CK dumping the blue and red colored wardrobe. Although I was hoping that he'd hit the pile with heat vision too. Is this a permanent change, or will I see the red & blue wardrobe again next week???
5. And the Chloe surprise. Wow! Didn't see that one coming. Now I understand the "connection" that Davis felt.... cuz she just turned straight evil. And as she walked away from the hospital room, after killing Sebastian (was that his name?), it kind of looked like she was unsure as to what she had just done - almost as if a switch went off in her brain. The fact that she killed another being, and how the Davis/CK/Jimmy relationship will play out, certainly is an interesting development to look forward to in the upcoming episodes. Also I have a feeling... a feeling that she is the "X".
6. No Chimmy!!
I didn't give the episode a "10" because as great as this episode was, there is always room for improvement. Here are some minor hiccups:
1. We (the audience) didn't get to see what Sebastian saw when he touched CK.
2. No MM? MM could've helped CK with hiding his identity. Why Ollie??
Well. I think that's it for now. I probably could go one a little more, but it is time for me to hit the sack. I will bounce back in here this weekend to express more about this episode. Until then.... Good nite!!

I think Chloe is X too. Brainiac didn't take care of the FOTW for Clark. Brainiac needs Clark and I think that's why Chloiac overloaded Sebastian. When Brainiac went into sleep mode, Chloe looked dazed or confused about what had just happened. At least that how it looked to me. Wonder what Brainiac is up to and why does he need Clark intact?

A "Code Blue" is generally used to indicate a patient requiring immediate resuscitation, most often as the result of a cardiac arrest, but also is used to summon medical staff in an emergency situation where more than the available staff on hand is required.
I worked Armed Security at a hospital where the administration used or created different calls such as paging "Dr. Strong" in case of a combative person/patient, or "Dr. Bullet" if someone had a weapon and an armed officer was needed.
Hopefully they will expand on what happened next episode.

When Clark saved Lois the second time in her apartment, he grabbed Sebastian and threw him. They lingered for a moment to show that Clark's hand touched him, and Sebastian's eyes widened as he read Clark's past. But that's what's so weird about the whole thing. So...Brainiac convinced Clark to go public with his heroism, but then killed to protect his secret? Not sure where they're going with that one, but it is interesting.
I had an "Aha" moment while watching this one. I think maybe the reason Chloe doesn't have the abililty to heal others anymore is because that power is working overload healing her. I mean, look at how that Sebastian guy OD'd on the computer stuff. Why doesn't that happen to Chloe? Because her healing power keeps healing her.
That's my theory, anyway. :)

What did I think of Identity?
I loved this episode! Jimmy snapping the picture as Clark was saving Lois; loved the look on Clark (Tom Welling's) face when he caught Jimmy snapping the picture of him! I knew that Clark was going to go straight to Chloe & Oliver Queen to ask for help, after Jimmy Olsen snapped the picture of him. Agreed with Chloe when she said that, "Maybe it won't be a bad thing," for everyone to know that there's a hero saving people's lives to make the streets and neighborhoods a safer place to live. What I didn't understand was how Chloe could act like herself around Clark and Jimmy (trying to defend Clark in front of Jimmy Olsen), then acting like she was Brainiac at the end of the show, when she killed a Freak of the Week.
I loved Oliver Queen's costume and especially the red cape he was wearing, when he was pretending to be Clark Kent. I loved the look on Clark (Tom Welling's) face when he saw the crowd cheering and being excited about Oliver Queen rescuing Jimmy Olsen; Clark looked as if he were thinking, "Maybe a dual identity won't be such a bad idea!" Hopefully, he embraces it!
I was shocked to see Chloe kill a FOTW, but then I thought to mysef, "Maybe it's Brainiac influencing her brain (since it was Brainiac who messed up Chloe's mind), or maybe it was Brainiac in disguise.
The only thing that Clark forgot to tell Oliver Queen was telling him that he and Lois aren't really married. Clark forgot to bring that up to Oliver Queen. Hopefully, next episode, he'll talk to Oliver Queen about it.
Great show!

His monitor was beeping erratically right before they called it too.

OMG
*can't breathe*
I really loved this episode. It had some kinks in it, but it was so much fun.
I really felt this was TPTB trying to show a foundation for Jimmy and Clark. It was all about Jimmy looking up to this unknown hero and also respecting Clark like a friend and brother.
Jimmy is so awesome when they let him be Jimmy.
Clark was fantastic. I loved Lois knowing who Sebastian was the entire time.
There was so much good in this ep it totally outweighed any of the uneven stuff :)

Very good episode tonight. Lots of great moments in the episode. The plot with clark trying to stop jimmy getting the photo published and knowing it was clark was good, and the other plot with the memory guy and lois was very good. i loved how clark was very scared jimmy was getting close to his identity. Then when he thought it was clark very good scenes there. Also talking with ollie and getting his butt back in the right direction was good and the scene with the ollie cover up hero was good too. As for the end with chloe(brainiac) dam what a way for episode to end. Brainiac is slowly taking her over. Also next week looks to be good and i cant wait to see how they wrap kara's story up.

The brain controls the heart. But if the brain was fried... well, I'm guessing the heart monitors would show a Code Blue because the heart stopped, too. It's just that normally the heart stops before the brain does. Just...in this case, not so much.

Yep that's pretty much what I was thinking too.
I give this episode a 9.
I loved the fact that Clark realizes it's good to have people see "him" saving people and giving hope, as he said to Ollie at the end. As Jonathan Kent said to him in "Void" during his near death experience--"You are going to touch the lives of so many people, not just as a man but as a...as a symbol. You're a symbol of Peace, you're a symbol of justice..."
The look on Clark's face after hearing people murmur excitedly over Ollie (as Clark) standing up on the building, it was like another piece of his destiny puzzle coming together for him. I also, speaking of Ollie, like how Clark held his ground in that first scene.
Loved the anvil about the cape
The Chloe/Brainiac/Chloe was very interesting, AM was fantastic.
Iconic Jimmy Olsen! He's getting more so with each epi, I like that they give him alone scenes with Clark, especially this episode with him letting Clark know what a good guy he is. Jimmy is, after all, Superman's best "pal" shall we say. It's nice to see that happening more.
Lois Lane--"superdude", yep, that's about as close to "Superman" as it can get for SV :D I like how she went undercover and didn't tell Clark to protect him, I like that's it's not always Clark doing the protecting on SV, even though he did have to help Lois at the end.
Of course the "zip me" scene was hilarious, Clark, IMO has never looked at Lois like this before, judging by his facial expressions, actions and words ;)
I wasn't overly fond of the Sebastian character but I know why they did it.
Partying Ollie was funny--I kept singing "Womanizer" to myself  Glad he's going back to GA/justice mode now.
Tess--she is dayum good. She is doing quite nicely filling the Lex void, I just thought that scene with Sebastian in the car was odd, with her being teary-eyed...

He was pure evil but I think he may have had some redeeming qualities. Wow! What a man! Can someone tell me who he is????????

And he reminded me of Taylor kitsch, but for the first couple minutes he

Well I liked it a lot. I've been hoping Jimmy could find out. It seemed to me like an opportunity to redeem him a bit in the eyes of the audience, and a way he could put Chloe behind him. He really had had lots of stuff staring him in the face for a while, so it was good to see him make the connections. I'm going to hope his being refooled, which wasn't believable, will be short lived.
I like that reasoning. And I like that he came around on his own at the end, due to his own experiances and decisions, not because anyone told him what he should do. It put the earlier conversation with Chloe in a far more favorable light.
Yeah, it was nice that he could see others admiration for him.
But, I think we can now say that Brainiac is in da house (and by house, I mean Chloe's brain).
Yeah, I'm glad they made it as plain as they have. Let's get on with that evil plan. Which brings us to the previews for next week and...
Also I have a feeling... a feeling that she is the "X".
Could that have anything to do with the way they repeatedly bludgeoned us over the head with it during the previously on?
4. CK dumping the blue and red colored wardrobe. Although I was hoping that he'd hit the pile with heat vision too. Is this a permanent change, or will I see the red & blue wardrobe again next week???
I liked that too. Frankly he's not been wearing it as much already. Not sure where they are going with it though. They said "not in this lifetime" about the cape.
Anyhow, loved the Chlark encouragement scene and the conversation about the psuedonymn. Loved Chlark closing ranks against Jimmy, even if I think they owe him a little more respect, I like how they are like minded. I like how Chloe regards it at Clark's secret to confess or not.

Oh, I loved...
+ Clark superspeeding to save Lois from becoming "roadkill".
+ Clark FINALLY getting rid of his "colorful" and tired wardrobe. (Thank goodness!)
+ Clark lookin' mighty fine in his professional attire. (Yowzer!!) :o
+ Lois' little red dress and the infamous "zippity-zip-zip" scene with Clark. Hehe ;)
+ Lois kicking some meteor freak ass.
+ Jimmy. Just Jimmy, no Chimmy. (They're better apart, then they are together.)
+ Tess. (I'm liking her more and more every episode.)
+ "SuperOliver", cape and all.
+ Chloe going to the "dark side". (I hope that means we get more Chlavis scenes -- they can be bad together. Ooh, hottness.)
So, I gave the Red Dress/Red Cape Caper a 9. It wasn't perfect, but it was damn good. :D
Ps. Sebastian may still be alive. They could have easily done CPR to restart his heart. But, he's more than likely a "vegetable" now and no longer a threat.

Best episode of the season and probably one of my all time favorite Smallville episodes. It definately earns a spot on my top 5. I haven't been this excited about an episode of Smallville since I saw Exile back in S3.
I was caught up in the episode from beginning to end, and I have to admit that seeing the cape blowing in the wind, and Clark's reaction to the people around him who were staring, gave me chills. I also really liked the ending. Whoever thought that you would ever see Chloe kill somebody intentionally? Allison Mack owned that scene. I also loved the forshadowing with Lois. Two great lines were Lois saying she was destined to fall for a guy who flies and dresses in tights, and that she would be the first one to get the exclusive interview on the hero.
My only real annoyance with the episode is the glasses factor. Everyone has seen Clark's face, and there is no way that Lois of all people wouldn't recognize him. If they had made Clark keep the glasses back in S3 after Whisper, that would have solved the whole problem. It bugs me that the writers are lazy in this aspect and act like it isn't there problem because we won't see Superman on the show.
10/10 - I doubt that any other episodes this season will top Identity.

Then, as she talks, it's like, AH-HA! She's going to use her BRANIAC Powers to make him forget Clark... KEWL!
Then BAM! DEAD FOTW...

Again another great episode in Season 8. This season is shaping up to be awesome and making up for the less than stellar seasons that came before it. Every episode has been Clark-centric and pushing him more and more forward to what we know is inevitably coming. Clark and Ollie's scene at the end had me laughing and the writers have returned to making fun of what we fans know to be but also respecting what is to come as well. This season is making me eat my own words concerning my prediction this season would be abysmal. Well, so far they have proven me wrong. The new Executive Producers definetely have a clear idea for this season. Great episode.

This episode was fantastic. A 10. I watched it a second time, with captions, and sure enough I caught things I missed the first time. Just so people know, this is a fansite, not Siskel and Ebert. I give any episode I find really enjoyable a 10 because this is my favorite show and I get to share it with all of you on the forum.
The most important thing I missed the first time around was Chloe's motivation for using a new Brainiac power to kill the FOTW. She asked him what memories he learned about Clark when Clark touched him and he said "enough" or something to that effect. So she took care of the problem, so to speak.
This begs two questions:
1. Is it Brainiac's influence in her brain that would make her resort to evil in that moment? Because, quite frankly, Chloe has been reminding me of Lana so far this season and her actions in the hospital again remind me of something Lana would do to protect Clark.
2. So far, how much of Chloe's decisions, feelings, and thought processes are hers and how much are Brainiac. Since I am tired of the whole "possession" plot that has been overused on Smallville, I have totally been fighting seeing anything in Chloe so far that is not Chloe.
But, that final scene was not typical Chloe behavior. She would not murder to protect Clark. Lana would, but not Chloe. And Brainiac would NOT protect Clark.
That is why I believe that Chloe is still calling the shots but the "Brainiac" remnant in her brain is affecting more parts of her brain, parts responsible for judgment and decision making, perhaps. Out of her love and concern for Clark, she used her abilities to get rid of someone who would put Clark (and the world) in danger.
Therefore, my perception is that Chloe chose to use a Brainiac ability to protect Clark. It appeared that she did the same thing to Sebastian that Brainiac did to Dax-Ur (at least the eyeball CGI thing was similiar).
Did Chloe download this guy's memory-stealing ability into her own brain and that is what gives Brainiac the power to replace all her memories with Kryptonian code in Abyss? I'm sure there will be speculation threads to ponder that one.
Back to the overall episode.
Watching it the second time, I would say to myself, "oh, this scene is a good one." Then, I would realize what the next scene was, and say, "Oh, wait, this one is even better." And so on, and so on. I think Clark was in just about every scene.
I know people have criticized the show for being too much like L&C, but it is drawing from the same myth. There will be some similarities. Smallville is definitely giving a new generation a new mythos, so I am choosing not to compare it to other movies and tv shows. Lois and Jimmy know Clark without glasses and prior to him working at the DP and that's just the way it is.
This season is just the latest chapter in the life of Clark Kent. It is his natural progression from teenage farm boy and reluctant local hero to Superman.
I loved Clark's interactions with Chloe, Jimmy, Lois, and Ollie. I just loved every scene this week.
I need to get the superficial off my chest: TW looks so good this season. It's like he looked superhumanly handsome for the first five seasons of the show. Then just okay in season 6 and 7. I think he looks so good to me because he is out of the THRJ for good chunks of the episode, he no longer has those short toddler bangs, and he smiles and acts heroic, not emo. That alone, makes this show soooo watchable.
A few retcons I noticed:
1. Jimmy says that he has been in Lois' shadow ever since HE arrived at the Daily Planet. Shouldn't the line be "...since SHE arrived..." since Jimmy was there the summer before Chloe's senior year in highschool, or at least season 6 when he worked there with Chloe?
2. Lois refers to her ride home with Sebastian to the Talon in Smallville from the Ace of Clubs in downtown Metropolis, as a "ride across town."
3. Clark has been wearing primary red and blue since season 1 and wearing it exclusively since season 7, but it takes Jimmy catching a glance of a photo of Clark and his parents for him to connect Clark to the red and blue blur in photo.
All in all, I feel like this season is the payoff for watching this show from the beginning. How cool is it for a show that was intended to be about the highschool years of Clark Kent to be on the air so long that the story moves into "Superman Begins" territory!

The one thing I didn't like is a hint at something that may happen in a couple of episodes. I hope it doesn't happen.
Yes. I saw possible foreshadowing of two spoilers from future episodes. After I'm done reading everyone's posts in here, I am headed for the spoilers/speculation threads to discuss in depth.

Who was that gorgeous guy who was playing Sebastian? Can we keep him? I would so love to see him on future episodes. I'd love to know more about his character. He was pure evil but I think he may have had some redeeming qualities. Wow! What a man! Can someone tell me who he is????????
That's so funny you mention that. I thought he was funny looking at first but then he started to grow on me. His look (and acting ability) reminds me of a brunette Jon Bon Jovi.

I agreed with this entire post, but wanted to quote this part of it. I totally agree with this and you put it much better than I could.

Lois, you're being really stupid. I mean, this takes the cake.
Going out with a murderer? On a date? Are you crazy, woman?!
(She's never going to learn. obviously.) If she knew what
his power was, why did she let him touch her hand?
Ugh!
 At least take separate cars, Lois!!
Actually, when Sebastion read her palm, her flashback showed that she learned about him from the flash drive but it said that his powers were classified. She was oblivious to his powers which is why she gave him her hand to hold.
Minutes later, he told Tess that Lois knew all about him. Then he was willing to kill her because she knew about his powers. But if you rewatch the scene, the flashback states that his powers are classified.

this was the best episode of the season. My congrats to the writers. I liked how they showed the human side of Tess ("Why are you so sad?") and how they are getting closer to Clark's Superman second identity. Now I'm looking forward to the return of Kara next week.
I never thought I was going to like Smallville again...

OMG! Tonight's episode rocked! This is the first time I've felt compelled to write about how awesome an episode was. I absolutely LOVED the character of Sebastian Kane. Who was that gorgeous guy who was playing Sebastian? Can we keep him? I would so love to see him on future episodes. I'd love to know more about his character. He was pure evil but I think he may have had some redeeming qualities. Wow! What a man! Can someone tell me who he is????????
I Agree! :p :D He was quite georgeous!
...
Hey that's the same theory I came up with a while back! :)

Fantastic episode. Jimmy Olsen does have a brain. Okay, now that I have that out of the way. Here is my opinion of the episode. First thing I like, Chloe standing up to Clark and explaining to him that it is not a bad thing that the people know he exists. Second thing, Jimmy figuring out Clark's secret way to go Jimmy. You would actually be a half decent reporter if he wanted to perfect way for him to find out Clark's secret. I like that, we got to see the rich playboy side of Oliver, makes his character seem more realistic in my opinion. I like how Clark, basically yelled Oliver for his actions. It is payback time my friend. The three best scenes in the entire episode were the pre-Superman, daily planet, and the brainiac-Chloe seems. In the pre-Superman scene I liked how Clark was able to see how much revealing himself would do for the world, with those of people pointing at Oliver and saying things. The daily planet, where Lois has made it her personal mission to find the protector of Metropolis. And the evil Chloe scene, at first I thought it might be Tess coming to tie up a loose end. When it turned out to be Chloe, I knew she was being controlled by brainiac, but still very interested to see where they take that. Oh, I also like the fact that the Lois and Clark relationship is clear and they can touch on it from time to time, but they do not have to make it so obvious anymore. And I am a fan of their relationship.
10/10 for me. Remember, just my opinions

10. this episode was amazing. I am so glad to see someone actually put together teh obvious things about clark and believe he is something special. for example, in committed, when lois and clark were leaving the basement where they were trapped, why does lois have no suspicion of clark on how he suddenly got out of his chair? or when they were leaving, wonder about the humungus hole in the wall where clark blew it down? but finally jimmy put two and two together and saw clarks wardrobe and and stood by his suspicions.

This year is just so much better than the last few years. I remember thinking as I watched this episode that there is so much going on, yet it's not rushed. It all flows. The dialogue between the characters is interesting and makes sense. Clark is acting like he might actually be able to pull this Superman thing off one day. And I like that they are giving him reasons for his actions that are good, not fearful. For instance, he didn't want Jimmy to know his secret, not out of fear for himself, but out of fear for Jimmy. How wonderful.

10-31-2008, 09:36 AM
This was definitely a 10, and I almost never give out 10's. It definitely was my favorite of the season. Scene after scene was just fantastic. And the way Jimmy reasoned it out. Jimmy may know someone else is out there, but I'm not convinced he's given up on Clark. Because of the way he tied it to the Chlark bond which he knows is quite strong. He knows he dare not given any ultimatim's to Chloe regarding Clark.
The Oliver/Clark stuff was just fabulous too.
And Chloe, would Chloe have done anything like that prior to her Braniac infection, I say no way.

I tink it was a great episode!!
I have also read some discussion that Sebastian removed Lois memories about Clark zipping up her dress as well as the other memories he saw.
I have to disagree. I think that Sebastian saw her memories but didn't erase them
I say this because one of the memories was about the flash drive and when he confronted her about the flash drive she gave it to him. If he had removed her memory of it then she wouldn't know anything about it.
Just posting because I would hate to think that the wonderful smile on her face when Clark was zipping her up would have been erased.

While Major TV stations scrambled for a chance to speak with Presidential candidates for this upcoming election, the CW bidded their turn in hopes of getting a piece of the spotlight. After being laughed off the phone intitially, Replublican Candidate John McCain and his running mate Sarah Palin agreed for a sitdown. But what very few knew was that McCain and Palin are hardcore Smallville fans. Smallville's main character, Clark Kent, is given the task to conduct an exclusive sit-down interview to discuss their campaign even though he doesn't know what the hell he's doing.
Day, Kent farm. The loft
Clark (behind a cardboard box shaped like a desk): And then I said shut up! I'll fly when I want to- OH. Hey. Clark Kent here of the Daily Planet. Tonight we bring you a very special Presidential edition of Smallville. We'd like to welcome (looking down on his cue card) John McCain and Sarah Palin. Welcome guys.
John McCain (uneasy): Y-yeah sure, thanks Clark. Its good to be here though I admit I expected something a little more indoors.
Sarah Palin (looking around nervously): Is there a reason why we are in a barn?
Clark: Budget restrictions. I hear Gossip Girls has a studio though if that helps.
Palin: Actually it doesn't.
Clark: Before we get started, there's something I've been dying to ask you, John. I was hoping you could help me with something.
McCain: Sure thing, Clark.
Clark: When I was a kid I had this pet pigeon named Snickers and he died. I was hoping you do that crossing over thing you do and tell him that I miss him.
McCain: Yeah, thats not me. Thats John Edward you're thinking of.
Clark: Are you sure you're not getting an "S" connection or something. Maybe a pet figure of some kind from the other side?
McCain: No.
Clark: So Jessica, how's married life doing? You and your beau from 98 degrees seem to be getting along well.
Palin: Uh, that's not me. You're thinking of Jessica Simpson. I'm Sarah Palin.
Clark: Sarah Simpson? Now you're just messing with me. There's Bart, Lisa and Maggie. There's no Sarah.
Palin (fustrated): Oh just nevermind.
Clark (looking down at his cue card): So what are the issues you feel are important to the American people?
McCain: Well the economy is always key. Healthcare has never been more important. And of course our troops in Iraq.
Clark: Oh! I have one of those in my closet. Is yours electric or regular?
McCain: (confused) I have no idea what you're talking about. Oh wait. You're thinking of a tie rack. I said Iraq.
Clark: What's an eye rack? For your eyes? Do you mean a spice rack?
Palin: What the hell is wrong with you?
Clark: (checking his watch) It's about 11:30. Thanks for asking.
Palin: Uh...
Clark: So tell me about this rack thing.
McCain: Being a soldier is something very dear to me. I was in the armed forces and ended up captured in Vietnam. I was subjected to torture and--
Clark: Whoa-ho, hold on right there, Johnny. I have to remind our viewers that there won't be a bigger torture than forgetting to tune in on Thursday night for an all new Smallville, coming to you on October 30th. Also Smallville is now available for download on I-Tunes for your viewing pleasure. Be a part of the biggest happening on Thursday. It's Smallville and it's CW!
McCain: --I was subjected to inhuman torture. How can you trivialize my experience by transitioning into a pitch for a TV show?
Clark: I only understood three of the words you just said.
Palin: (getting up and leaving) This interview is over. You're a moron.
Clark: (calling out) I'm a moron? What about you!? You do this interview and don't even sing "Irresistable?" I hope I never act like you when I become all famous. You rich people with your tie racks and eye racks! Who needs you? I'm out of here. (looking down) Oh man. I forgot to put pants on again.
-----------------------------
What? You knew I had to do a Election edition of Smallville. Hopefully Dawn Ostroff never gets that idea though. Yikes. But onto last night's episode!
Identity
Previously On montage. PS3 have done this 3 times already this season. Good deal.
The episode opens at night time in Metropolis. Why the hell does everybody walk the streets at night in such a big dangerous city? Its the reporter's version of Mulder and Skully. Oh NOW the X thing makes sense. A mention of Clark stops Lois is in her tracks. You thoughts betray you, Lois. Cue crazy mugger. WHAM! Damn Jimmy you got punk'd, again. Lois tells him to get a picture of the mugger's face and.. Jimmy, thats not Lois' face. Jimmy, you're aiming the camera at the wrong person. Oh nevermind. The visual of Clark shoving that guy 10 feet into a garage door, stopping in horror for Jimmy's photo and then saving Lois and running off like a scared kitten was just the start of me laughing during this episode. The only episde I've laughed more at was Committed. Uh.. Lois.. I know you saw that truck about to hit you. How can you say you saved your own life. Very cool intro.
Daily Planet. I'm smiling already. Look at how nervous he looks. Once inside the room he's looking around like he thinks the room is bugged with cameras. RELAX Clark. Maybe its not so bad afte- oh damn. Yeah that photo is kind of bad afterall. Close up on Clark's face as he sees the photo. I swear you could see the acid indigestion affecting him already. There goes the gulps. Did he REALLY just suggest that it was a reflection of a police car driving by??? Jimmy is so enthusiastic, its great! LOL. Poor Clark don't know what to do. Love it!
Lois! In walks a guy with a haircut like a Hobbit. Pretty fast mover, aren't you Frodo? Whaaaa Lois said yes. Well well well, isn't it nice to see a woman who appreciates when a guy comes on to her. Unlike a certain woman I've met yesterday.
Luthor Mansion. Tess is standing there in her office just.. staring at wall. Frodo touches her and sees her crying earlier. Does the wall have a picture of Clana? If not, I don't get it. Frodo refuses to steal Lois's memories but Tess threatens to tell the cops what a sick voyeuristic predator he is. Not that there's anything wrong with that. OK the stalking and killing part is bad though. Wow what a wench.
Isis. OK. I see both arguments here. But oh my God Eliza Dushku Clark does have a point about the risk this poses to those around him. But I have to say that Chloe is a little too giddy about all this without thinking about the possible implications.
Daily Planet. Poor Clark is still in panic mode. OK, turning down a front page story is NOT helping, Clark. Saying that photo is out of focus is even worse, Clark. "You can't even telling who it is- you can't tell what it is." LOL STOP, Clark, just STOP. LOL. He mentions Lex's name which brings out the Queen B in Tess. She tells him Jimmy is up to his elbows doing research to find out his identity and- close up to Clark's face- yup, he wants to kill everybody.
Talon. Clark superspeeds in there without even knocking. What if Lois was in there changing- OHH I see, Clark. Good move. In walks Lois lookin bow-chica-wow. DAMN. Baby got back, front, sides, top, bottom and I better stop there. Concentrate Cedric. How can you say you were picking up Jimmy's bag that was clearly on his bed, while on your knees going through his cupboard? Come on, Clark. That was horrible. Zip? ZIP? Oh I've been in this situation plenty of times. They never want you to zip, Clark. Its a come-on. They want you to take a peak. This IDIOT..
Things NOT to do with a woman that asks you to zip up her dress:
1. Zip up the dress.
2. Zip up the dress.
3. Consider zipping up the dress.
4. Zip up the dress before "accidently" grabbing the butt.
Clark acts like he's touching nuclear particles but he does get a peak and then some. I saw him look her over completely after she was zipped up. My man! At least thats something. "Sometimes when a guy likes a girl he asks her out" And she was SO giving his chest "the look" while she said that and she reached out and copped a feel. Lois has completely taken Clark aback by this all of this. He's disposition is anything but normal. He's flustered, blushing, and so jealous he can't stop moving. And she's loving how much she is getting to him. She's smiling the whole time. She's noticing all of it. Frodo enters and spoils the fun, but Lois makes a nice save for Clark, urshering him out before he shakes the guy's hand. I lovvved this scene.
Kent farm. Hereee we go. As soon as I see the clothes I start laughing. Clark dressing in a grey shirt makes it more hilarious. Who is he trying to kid??? He sees Jimmy then gets rid of the clothes and jacket. LOL. Jimmy thinks the hero has been in Smallville and went to Clark's high school. Clark looks uncomfortable. Look at Clark squirm. Its like a million lies are running through his head but he has liar's block. Here's where it gets GOLDEN lol. Jimmy realizes that the mysterious saves started happening in Metropolis after Clark graduated and you see Clark give this long breath followed by "whats your point". He's scared out of his mind and is desperately trying to find anything to shake Jimmy's confidence. Jimmy having this awe-struck look of realization on his face didn't help. Poor Clark just wanted to go somewhere and vomit. Then Jimmy takes the family photo and I bet with every fiber of his being Clark wanted to superspeed out of that house.
"Be careful with that Jimmy, its fragile" "Since when did you take such an interest in my family's photographs" LOL. Can't. Breath. Must. Pause.
As Jimmy compares the photographs you can see Clark in the background darting his eyes from the photograph, then back to Jimmy. Photo- Jimmy, photo- Jimmy. LOL He was PISSED that he had forgotten to get rid of that family photo. Jimmy's face was just priceless. The most amazed look I've ever seen anyone give anyone on this show. And the more Clark saw that look, the crazier he became. I've never seen him so scared. PERFECT. "Look Jimmy I have a lot of work to do. I have to fix a tractor so." Oh, Clark. Just STOP. This might be my favorite scene of the season just because of Clark's horrendous avoidance and lies.
Isis. That creepy room again. Clark speeds in to fill Chloe in, most likely after he vomitted as soon as Jimmy as left his house. Jimmy has that look again. "I used all the shortcuts." Thats the worse one yet! I kind of felt bad for Jimmy, and this really put Chloe in a difficult position.
Oliver's Jet. Three of them? Hope you have gaterade. Clark spoils everything because he needs to talk. Finally Clark delivers a little verbal beatdown of his own. It was polite but at least it was something. Pretty passionate plea by Clark, and Oliver relents. Nice scene.
Ace O' Clubs. Frodo is being put through the wringer and doesn't realize it. Lois is pretty crafty in the way she's going about getting info. "I was destined to fall for a guy who flies a lot, and likes to wear tights" YES!! Cross-dressing Pilot- NO!! Hell no. Frodo reads her palms and.. that look she had on her face as Clark was zipping her up was pure sexy evilness. Needless to say I enjoyed that a lot. So much so that I rewinded it couple of times. Nice tie in with the Black Creek flash drive. Tess leaves this guy out to dry then puts a hit out on Jimmy. I'm beginning to dislike her.
On the one street in Metropolis. Aw shucks, Jimmy really makes me wish that Clark just tells him the truth. I know that Clark is just trying to protect him and all, but as far as secret keepers go Clark can do a lot worst than Jimmy. Bluetooth!Chloe and Sober!Oliver are game. "I swear, ask anyone, I know how to keep a secret" That you do, Lois. You'll be the best secret keeper Clark could have ever known.
Lois knows no fear. She took this guy on in her heels, while he had a gun. Crazy. And hot too. But maybe thats just me. I LOVE that she called Clark out of all the people she could have called. That says so much about how they've progressed. Holy crap Lois gets spinebustered on her glass table. No people's elbow though. Clark showing up, staring at that guy and clocking him was badass. Oliver saving Jimmy was well done too. I LOVED how Clark's Superman theme was playing the background throughout all of this, building as the scene went on. And the look on Clark's face as he looked at the observers was made of WIN! One of the BEST moments in Smallville ever. Its all coming together, its so surreal to see all of this. I never thought we'd experience moments like this when the show first started. The scene gave me goosebumps.
Daily Planet. Faster than a speeding bullet, by Ron Troupe. Ha! Nice. Again, how can anyone not like Jimmy? He's all heart. I'm glad he's getting major props for breaking this story. Lois comes rolling out of nowhere. Lois did save Clark initially from touching Sebastian, but Clark messed it up later. Still, you can't help but love how she thinks she keeps saving him from danger. Jimmy doing a little bragging to her was nice too, he's earned it. Here it comes. Here new mission is to land the first world-wide exclusive with the Superhero. Now THATS what I'm talking about, Lois. Its going to happen this season, I just know it. Or at least I really hope it does. This was Lois' big moment and I ate up every second of it. Clark's "good luck with that" cockiness, to Lois' determined "Watch me", to Clark's look of dread again was awesome! Loved it.
Oliver's Jet. Now this is the kind of Oliver-Clark interaction I like. This whole episode was a big step in the right direction for this relationship, and for Jimmy and Clark. Really nice scene here. Oh yes Clark you'll wear that cape and you'll like it! Good scene.
Met General. Shocking. Really shocking. Even being as spoiled as I was, this caught me completely off guard. As I said in the Chloe evil thread, it was murder, and all I wanted to see was if this was more Brainiac or more Chloe. Her wanting to protect Clark's secret + her reaction in the hallway leads me to think this was Chloe. The power of Brainiac is corrupting her. And considering that she was so set in her ways to ignore it from the very beginning and told Clark basically to mind his business this is all her fault. Awful. I wonder if she's going to tell Clark what she's did? Next week will be most interesting. But what a shocker for a ending.
What a season this has been. Each episode save for Toxic has left me wanting more. It was a daunting task to build on Prey but Identity did that. I judge these episodes by the way I feel after I watch them, and my stomach was in knots after watching this episode. Every scene mattered and led to something better. All the characters were well done. And I smiled and laughed as much as any episode this season. What more else could I have asked for as a fan? Great beginning, great continuity, a great score, a great cliffhanger, action, comedy, Clois goodness, and memorable moments.
THATS how you do a Jimmy centric episode. Take note, Caroline Dries.
Best episode of the season for me. 10. Slightly ahead of Commited.
And the preview for next week said it all. "Welcome to hell", yup.. Clana returns.

I must commend PS3 for putting a lot of effort in establishing continuity, what with all the callbacks to events/elements from seasons past. We even got a picture of the older Kents! It's making such a huge difference with the way the story is being told.

i thought this episode was great. some parts were kind of slow and stuff but i liked how jimmy figured out it was clark and how chloe knew. im sure jimmy still believes its clark but wont bring it up agian. i always had the feeling in the movies anyway that jimmy knew but as long as superman didnt hurt anyone he would just keep doing what he was doing.
loved chloe/brainiac going evil. that was really cool. i was half hoping she would t1000 him or something but the mind over-ride thing was cool.
also like ollie dressing up as a green arrow/superman hybrid. although a mask and hood didnt look very superman like so im hoping whenever and if ever we get a superman costume either worn or not they get rid of those 2 things. im also surprised no one was like hey its the green arrow only dressed differently lol. or does everyone think all heroes use a bow and arrow?

How did Jimmy sneak up on Clark and Chloe, and surprise them at the foundation?
Does he now have "Stealth" abilities?
Fun for the story line, but Clark knew Jimmy would be heading there, even I heard the door open while they were talking, and I don't have super hearing.
I think it would have been cool for clark to "flash/zoom" out of there, and breeze by Jimmy. He would have felt the "whoosh" go by him. He would have still figured it out, and told Chloe "I know about clark, and I bet that was just him, wasn't it. I understand now, you've been keeping his secret." Clark's "shortcut" excuse was too lame for anyone with an average IQ to buy.

Great review Fallen One I love reading your reviews. A specially when you are making fun of someone. Especially Clark. You are right he should have done more in that scene with Lois. Things like that make me wonder how they could ever be a couple. And I agree with all your points on the episode. I especially loved the last line of your review. Yes having, I will not even mention the name, but yes, that would be hell and I hope one that does come back is put to rest in a way that makes sense. But does not focus the entire episodes around it.

very good episode. Many scene worth noting but don't have time. I take it that Brainiac is trying to take over Chloe. Not sure I like Chloe killing that guy...my kids ask why would Chloe kill someone? I told them that she erased his memory and turned him into a vegetable but did not kill. I didn't like that part.

Lois! In walks a guy with a haircut like a Hobbit. Pretty fast mover, aren't you Frodo? Whaaaa Lois said yes. Well well well, isn't it nice to see a woman who appreciates when a guy comes on to her. Unlike a certain woman I've met yesterday.
Well, to be fair Sabastian's opening line wasn't something about *ahem* mountain climbing;)

I'm just wondering about one thing..
We know that the Ace of Clubs set used to be Ollie's appartment.
Does that mean Ollie now lives in his plane???LOL it was funny having the Clark-Oliver scenes in his jet. Give the guy his penthouse back..!

This was a fantastic episode! This season just gets better and better (like the entire series IMO)! The new producers have done a great job indeed.
This is what Smallville should always be about. PS3 nailed the concept of the show this season. Finally, I'm watching what I have been waiting since Season 1.
ITA... it's finally reached it's full potential.

Totally agree with that Timester. Finally, FINALLY, it feels like we've gotten back to Clark's story, and an actual story about a budding Superman. If only we could've gotten rid of AlMiles sooner.

The bigger question is how did Clark arrive only a few seconds ahead of Jimmy instead of beating him by hours.
Otherwise, I give the episode a 10 - One step closer to Superman.

This season is definately shaping up to be the best season EVER. This episode was beyond awesome. The ending totally shocked me, that Chloe could be so evil and cold. It was absolutely chilling. I liked that Clark isn't wearing as much red and blue this season because when that's all you see him in, it gets a little tiring.
Having new producers is the best thing that happened for this show in a long time!

Now that, is the episode i have been waiting for.
It was, fantastic. I loved it. Jimmy - at last.
*sigh*
The end? SHOCK.
I gave it a 10; but i wish i could give it higher, considering i gave Committed and Prey 10, and this was greater than them.
And Cedric. Ah.
Your reviews as per usual are wonderful.
Your reviews are just so awesome Cedric! I almost couldn’t stop laughing! :D
My most favorite part:
Tom totally rocked in "Identity". And in this scene he was just - OMG, OMG, OMG! I loved it sooooo much! :)
I can't agree more!
Thanks for the review. :)
I loved this episode. 10/10

If this post comes out weird it's cos I'm watching 'The Incredible Shrinking Man' at the same time, so apologies for any sudden references to giant spiders...lol...
This episode was fantastic, I loved every minute of it. I laughed at the awkwardness from Lois when she realised Clak would be at dinner with her and Jimmy. Has anyone noticed how great Mr Olsen is when not in the vicinity of Chloe? He really came into his own in this episode, putting the story together and being a true friend (and colleague) to Clark and Lois. Also he was responsible for some comedy gold - Clark's laundry pile in the kitchen when he realises he has nothing else to wear...lol...Jimmy comes in, Clark gets rid of it all and then is done in by the photo. Think I might have stopped breathing at this point, I was laughing so much.
Next, Clark gives Ollie a pep talk. Yay!!!! Recently Ollie has annoyed me cos he's always beating on Clark for not joining in with his little gang right away....I liked seeing him get taken down a peg or two by Tess in 'Committed'. Clark is the one who turns his life around a bit. The cape was great though. Then Clark decides what to do with his own life, at his own pace (as always ), not because someone else is telling him. Point of interest though, when Ollie says that the Green Arrow is who he really is, does that mean Ollie is just a front? What does this mean for Clark? Will Superman be the mask or is he the true identity? However I digress....
I was a bit sad too, seeing all those people excited about some random guy wearing blue and red, rather than Clark. TW was awesome in that scene where he realises the power he has to be a symbol, not just a person. There were no words in that scene but it was one of the highlights of the series so far. However the sadness was balanced out by all the Clois moments, especially the zip scene from Lois's POV....she just wanted an excuse for Clark to touch her, then practically begged him to ask her out, feeling him up and everything...lol...then protects him from the (really hot!) psycho.
Finally, Chloe. That was a shock! The gloves! The menace! How ironic is it that she seems to be doing the exact thing she warned Lana against doing, killing someone to protect Clark. Also, the code blue thing....I thought that was for cardiac arrest? I'm only a nursing student, not a fully qualified nurse but if Chloe overloaded his brain wouldn't that be more like a stroke? Anyways, I'm sure someone will have the answer :D
On an unrelated note - Clark being manly in shirt and tie = hot....Clark being manly in that grey and white layered combo = hot. What would I give to be Lois? *sigh*
I give this episode 9 cos I don't give out 10's! Now I've read Cedric's review, the only thing that would make my day better is warmer weather, but that's just wishful thinking in November :rotfl:

Thanks Matt! I would have liked more with the Clois apartment scene but thinking about it..Clark was in untra panic mode over Jimmy so much that he didn't notice what Lois was wearing. His problem had his full attention- until Lois asked him to zip her. Thats when Clark forgot all about his problem and the Clois really took off I felt. He didn't want to leave after that, Lois has to kick him out.
This is me noticing. :D Thank you for not letting me down! That dentist doesn't know a good thing when it comes on to her. Chalk another crazy lady up on the pile.
As ever, your reviews are also made of win! And may I say, this is the only way I want my politics?! :rotfl:
Me and Dr. Juggs aren't over by a long shot. I'm going back there Monday (not for a dentist visit- thats suicide) but I'm bringing flowers with a card. Hopefully that will ease her somewhat. I like a challenge, I'll woo her.
And I must agree. If politics were like that CSPAN would kill in ratings. Maybe these candidates should let me write their speeches. I'll make the crowd's jaw drop for sure.

(rolls eyes) Oh PLEASE. I didn't think she would hear me, I said it at a volume that only those around me should have heard. It was that damn echo that screwed me. And I spent the whole time trying to appologize. She's was being unfair and playing hard to get I think. Heck, my little comment could be looked at as a compliment. Besides, moutain climbing could have been referring to anything, she jumped to conclusions.

I loved it, it was really cool episode. I actually loved Jimmy on this episode too, usually he annoys me, he was so clever and sweet at the same time, giving his support to Clark and I loved what he said to him at the end, that he had his reasons why he thought Clark was the hero. I loved how they made Clark decide to save Lois instead of going with his plan to cover himself, and the face he made when he saw the people cheering for him was amazing, classic. I loved the continuity as well, how they touched the fact Lois had stolen that memory in the first episode and touched Oliver's behavior towards Clark because of past episodes...they connected it all, awesome job. Chloe also caught me off guard, I did not expect her to act that way. At first I thought it was Tess at the hospital and then when Chloe appeared, I was like Whoa! and then when she killed him, I almost fell off my chair lol. Lois was super funny and cute, at first I didn't understand why she didn't let Clark give the hand to Sebastian, but after we found out she knew about his powers, it all made sense. How sweet of her to protect him hehe, she loves him yay! and her face when he helped her with the dress, super cute, she wanted him to get jealous :) Clark was amazing in every way too. 10/10

Excellent episode in an excellent season.
Loved everything about the episode, except for Jimmy quickly forgetting that Clark somehow beat him from Smallville to Isis, after he'd seen the Ollie super-save. There can be more than one superhero, James!! :)
Chloe-iac has huge potential. :)
And I wonder who will be first to coin the handle "Superman" (or is that illegal as far as DC is concerned?). Lois was close with "Superdude"!! :D
Easily 9 out of 10.

Clark realizing that part of his destiny is to give people hope... was wonderful. One of the best moments of the series.
Oooh Cedric's review! :D
Lois! In walks a guy with a haircut like a Hobbit. Pretty fast mover, aren't you Frodo?
LOL! I hated that guy's hair.
Its like a million lies are running through his head but he has liar's block.
Liar's block. Ha!
"Look Jimmy I have a lot of work to do. I have to fix a tractor so."
Oh I love the tractor line! LOL!
Lois knows no fear. She took this guy on in her heels, while he had a gun. Crazy. And hot too. But maybe thats just me.
ADORE!
And the look on Clark's face as he looked at the observers was made of WIN! One of the BEST moments in Smallville ever.
YES. What a wonderful moment.
Again, how can anyone not like Jimmy? He's all heart.
:D
Clark's "good luck with that" cockiness, to Lois' determined "Watch me", to Clark's look of dread again was awesome! Loved it.
Oh me too!

And Clark, OMG! What a fantastic episode for him; and a turning point. That really feels good to have an episode from Clark's point of view; it has rarely been done and it was great!

This episode was epic in every way. First Clark being so insecure about women was funny, perhaps they should introduce pink Kryptonite as a what if. I'm glad they put this whole is Clark going to be a hero thing to rest because that was the only part that felt like the last few seasons. Chloe/Brainiac is becoming a real threat, and what she did to that guy if memory serves me right is her first act of murder. I was glad to see Oliver again, even though him as a drunk is funny I rather see him as the Green Arrow. It was swet for him to repay Clark after he dressed up as him to throw suspision off from Lois. Next week looks to be even better.

Great job to Glen Winters and Mairzee Almas.
This was a great episode!
The part that I liked the best was the superjump that Clark made (jumping from the ground to the high building). That was an awesome special-effects.
I loved Green Arrow's/Oliver Queen's costume (especially the cape). The look on Tom Welling's face after people got excited about seeing Oliver Queen come to Jimmy Olsen's rescue, was worth watching! Tom Welling did a great job (the look on his face said everything) without him uttering a word. It was worth watching!

I gave this episode an 8 . i liked it very much ! the ending blew me away but i gave it a lesser rating than prey cause there were a few things i did not like.
Anywhoo i loved chloe talking to clark aboit him needing an identity and that the world needs a hero and how that effected clark. His facial expresion was awsome. also at the end where everyone was crazy at the dp about the super heroe head line. love
d how clark seemed to be taking it all in and he seemed to like it. this momnet was very iconic to me seeing clark kent discovering himself anf how this will effect his future.
i still don't like some of the farm boy put downs . i don't dislike all the lois and clark banter but some of it wears thin with me. some makes me laugh and some makes me roll my eyes . sorry can't help what i like and dislike. although i did like a calmer lois in this episode.
i liked jimmy in this episode besides just being chloe's man. nice to see him more of the photographer jimmy.
the bad guy ehh i gues ok , the line of lois's fortune teller is just another relationship reference anvil for lois and clark and i wish they would stop the fortune telling and physco people telling us who does and does not belong together * yawn * getting really old ps3 ... build the relationship don't hit me over the ehad tired of it !
Chloe killing the guy was a real shocker but i also know that chloe is not totally herself . chloe under NORMAL circumstances would not have killed this guy. period don't want to argue with anyone because my mind is set ! period chloe would not have done this without the brainiac infection period , period period !
chloe cares for clark he is her best friend and chloe knows how clark would feel about her killing someone to protect him. chloe knows clark would blame himself and she would not knowingly hurt him like that ! she is influened by her brainiac infection and anyone can clearly see that chloe would not do this on her own. but im sure some beg to difer.
now all the rest will unfold and it is a good story but not good for clark and chloe in my opiinion. there relationship will suffer becasue of this just so --------- well fill in the blanks im not going there . there fore i gave it an 8 . don't like seeing one friendship being destroyed just to make another look believeble. thats my opinion as im entitled. thank you !
anyway this episode was good just has some negatives imo. the best number one positive note is this Clark is becoming superman and in every episode i can see it happening and it has nothing to do with his love preference or relationship status .
Clark is moving forward and being a man and superman and i give him the credit for finally opening his eyes . Clark being superman has not nothing to do with his love interest and it shouldn't be. go forward clark go forward .

I liked it. I'm glad Ollie has come out of his funk (still not a fan) but it's hard to take his constant bickering with Clark when he was hiding out himself.
I enjoyed the Lois smile in the mirror. Nice touch. Erica is doing a great job and I would love to see more of her interaction than Tess' when Lana returns. Takes me back to the cave when Lana returned from Paris and thought that Clark and Lois were together. That would make a good , quick flashback.
What I don't understand is why Tess feels the need to kill? What's her motivation beyond the unexplained hero worship of Lex. Shave her head and call her "Tex". We are getting close to the middle of the season and still no clues. Was Ollie right about a Lex/Tess couple? Spend an act of an eppy and fill in some holes is what I'm saying.
Chloe?, Chloe?, Chloe?, Brainiac!, Chloe?....enough said.

I gave it an 8, it was pretty good & it felt different.
I wish some things were still ole school like in the comics/ole TV, like with the birth of the cape (mom’s idea, not Ollie’s) but I chalked it up to new peeps at the helm. It did keep its appeal and kept me interested (like Chloe going all killer like).
There were a few moments when I wish Clark's journey was a bit different but still it was good TV & I had fun.
I still miss Lex :\ , Tess is just not up to par for me, she could never be Lex with all his layers (7 years of building that character) but if that’s all they can develop her character into, then fine. I rather not get emotionally invested in her anyways.
Overall, different was ok in this episode.

I gave it a rounded-up "9" (since there isn't an "8.5"). I'm reserving my "10!", just in case I need to distinguish another episode later on. And the way this season's going, I think there's a good chance.
I thought it was a terrific follow-up to "Prey," and I love how overall, the storylines this season are so squarely on Clark. Everything, no matter what they are, are revolving around him. I loved that he got to see how people react to "him" in "Identity" and that he's moving closer to his own secret one. Also, I liked it that it was Clark's decision. Chloe, Oliver, and Jimmy helped him see the potential, the need, but it was Clark who decided it was what he was ready to do. Finally, that ending with Lois, Jimmy, and Clark at the DP - was great. I'm hoping we see more of them together (soon). More please. And go Clark! :)
* Also yes, the Chloe ending was shocking. Brainiac is getting bolder and poor Chloe is going to have to fight it. :(

Love it.It was fantastic episode.Clark realising just now that it needs to stop wearing red & blue for a while
Jimmy prouved that he can be an awesome character. He was so perseverant trying to convaince Clark to tell him the thruth.
What can I say about Lois...she was radical as always, she really kick butt in this episode, the army brat has come back but,she also showed a softer side of herself, more caring & protective toward Clark. That was really, really sweet.
Dark and scary Chloiac.I almost freaked out when I saw her at the end of the bad guy's bed...She totally rocked!!!
Tess wasn't as impressive as I thought she would be.I was wondering why she was crying when Sebastian touched her?Was it because of Oliver or the crystal that she can find and know that she will be in big trouble if Lex returns and learns that she have lost it?I think it's the second option, don't you ;)

I liked how Clark looked around at everyone admiring the new "Hero" on the rooftop. You can almost see the "Hey, that would be cool" thoughts running through his mind.
Yessssssss, that's my favourite moment:), this one and when Clark was jealous after helping Lois with her dress, it was so cute and funny. It is a 10 for me ! It was excellent. I liked everything in this episode even Jimmy I usually can stand was incredible (at last, the character was brilliant). The only thing which disturbs me is Chloe becoming a villain but I think it had to happen so wait and see. Thank you, a perfect moment to see our superhero who is growing, growing to be Superman, waouh !:p

Chloe: It's called an alias, Clark. Oliver Queen has the Green Arrow. I think it's time for you to have one of your own.
Clark: This isn't a debate, Chloe, we need to protect my identity!
Chloe: Why do you keep saying that word...
Clark: What word, identity? Because it's a word I can really identify with, Chloe. Plus, it's the name of this episode. It needs to be said out loud at least three times. It's the only way to make sure people will understand why it's called Identity. lol
Great episode. What a difference Erica Durance/Lois makes. She (and the Clois) are the absolute best thing about this season. If the showrunners can just stick with the core characters and focus only on the central themes, and resist the nerdy/kiddie temptation to bring back ridiculous cartoon elements like Martian Manhunter and the Justice League into the mix, Smallville will do just fine the rest of the way.
ED is truly owning Lois Lane this season. Teri Hatcher used to be my pick for best Lois, but not anymore--that distinction now belongs to Durance. Season 8 is making me like Jimmy much more than previous seasons too (he just annoyed me before). As others have said, we're finally getting a more iconic Jimmy.
I'm not a fan of Clark needing to get so many of his ideas from other people or other "superheroes". I mean such things like the need for or usefulness of a disguise/alterego, and now even his famous cape, we can basically credit to Oliver/GA? Or to know-it-all Chloe? It would have been nice if they could have written a Clark that figures these things out more on his own, rather than having everything handed to him on a nice and tidy silver platter.
Funniest line/part:
Clark: You didn't hear me complain when I had to put on green leather to protect your identity. (aside: 7th time Clark says "identity" in the episode. just kidding. heh)
Oliver: Clark you made out with my girlfriend, man. What did you have to complain about?
Lol. Oliver/GA wasn't my favorite character in this ep, but this was funny. Honestly they should just phase him, and the rest of the cartoony elements, out of the series altogether. No more other superheroes, no more ridiculous characters from Mars. Just stick to the essentials. It's not rocket science.

I gave it an 8. Fantastic storylines and acting. I loved the night scenes in Metropolis and the clois scene in the Talon. There have definitely been better eps, IMO, but it's definitely a episode that I wouldn't mind watching a couple of times over again!
KEEP THE CLOIS COMIN'!

Did you guys notice that the guy leaving from Isis foundation was the same kid from Prey? the tall one that was telling Chloe the cops had gone to look for them? I was wondering if that meant anything that they showed him twice in a row...just wondering :)

It's the only way to make sure people will understand why it's called Identity. lol

Yeah, so true. I hate that, too. It's almost like Clark has no brain. So often he has to be told what to do by others, that's really annoying me!
Everyone seems to be smarter than him :( and that's Superman-to-be we're talking about - in fact that's ridiculous! :(

yeah, if they only would do that already!

Ever since you created the denial thread, I have been hoping that season 8 would be a good one for you. I don't know about you, but I have not had to vent my frustrations over there in quite a while!:)

Really enjoyed that episode and the season in general.
Looks like the BDA is just waking up to the fact that he could mean a lot more than he realises to people lol.
Chloe's 'hero' speech to Clark at the beginning reminded me of Samual Jackson in Unbreakable when he talks to Bruce Willis about these being mediocre times.
I liked Lois teasing Clark with the dress and deliberately trying to make him jealous. Not sure why she phoned him instead of 911 though :\

This was a great episode. Jimmy was really likeable in this episode. I like how he tried to encourage Clark to open up and trust him.
Clark's grand scheme to hide his identity using Chloe and Ollie was fun. It was nice to see Ollie return the favor from Hydro.
The Chloe and Chlark scenes were wonderful and a great reminder of how much they support each other. Chloe encouraged Clark to use the situation to his advantage and fully embrace his inner hero. Clark continues to obtain emotional support from Chloe and that is wonderful. It was great seeing them stand side by side against Jimmy's inquiries.
The Chloiac scene with Sebastian was totally unexpected and blew my mind. I hope we will see clearer distinctions between Chloe and Brainiac in the upcoming episodes.
1. Having Lois ask Clark to zip her dress was gratuitious and doesn't cast Lois in a favorable light considering her overt sexual advances in recent episodes.
2. I thought that having Lois call Clark when she was being attacked was contrived and out of character for Lois. She usually called Chloe in the past and it would have made more sense for her to call the police considering that she doesn't know about Clark's powers. At the end of the episode, she told Clark she didn't tell him that she was investigating Sebastian because she didn't want to endanger him. So it made no sense for her to endanger Clark by calling him to a scene with an assailent that has a gun.
I gave this episode an 8.

Good point!
But then when does this show make sense ? :\
Yesterday evening I went back & watched the entire episode on DVR, and was very pleased with what I saw. I really enjoyed that Jimmy finally didn't look like a gigantic idiot, but still got fooled at the end. This episode also showed Clark as being one step closer to becoming that red & blue caped wonder boy we all love.

Although a good concept I found the Clark vs Jimmy Plot a bit silly at times and Jimmy's leap of Logic was over the top... still not a bad episode but not great either!

It was effing brilliant! This is another of my favourite S8 episodes because it shows Clark that he needs to think about developing a secret identity.

This was an absolutely PHENOMENAL episode. I LOVED it. I give it a 10/10 for sure! I loved every part of it, really. There were too many great moments to list them all, but all the scenes with Jimmy, Chloe, Clark, and Lois were just plain golden. Excellent work, Smallville!

I loved this episode. I loved that Jimmy figured everything out about Clark. Clark is on his way to finally figuring out that he does need a secret identity. I loved the exchange between Oliver and Clark about returning the favor about dressing up. This episode was the highlight for me for the friendships Clark had with both Oliver and Jimmy since they both started back in season six.

Like "Prey" this episode really explored the need for a secret identity.
Hence why "Identity" was awesome! I really loved how they made Jimmy crack the secret. It was really flattering on his abilities. I loved the moment he knew it was Clark. I wasn't exactly afraid of what would happen. It was more like humorous but still got me thinking how is he gonna get out of this one.
Getting Oliver back on track was a good side story to this. Was cool of them doing role reversal from "Hydro". The comedy in this episode was just amazing from the scenes in Olivers private plane to the street scenes. I especially liked how it was implied that Oliver might be drunk and that Clark hasn't got the right to bash him 'cos last time he got to make out with Lois!
The teaser to the episode is simple but it shows Clark patroling the streets which is always a plus. It shows how tough Lois is and Jimmy taking a picture of the Blur is what you'd find in the pages of comics. It's simple, it's nothing new, but it's not really not at all played like this in the show. The end scene was great with Clark seeing what could be with Oliver in the red cape (that Clark thinks looks ridiculous :D:D:D:D)
Seriously the episode didn't jump at you with amazing scenes but it did it's basic developement and actions so well that it deserves a 10.

Rated it a solid 9
What brought it home for me was that dude reading Lois and the scene where Clark is zipping up her dress (well all saw how nervous and awkward CK was lols) and to see Lois' facial reactions.... Such a good touch to the episode!
Something so simple as that 3-4 second scene made that episode so awesome for me! Corse Oli helping out CK etc etc was good but nah that Lois+CK scene was teh best :3
