By himself? Where were the parents? Anyone else find it odd?

He might have been nipping to he shops. We don't know exactly what time it was - it could have been 6 or 7pm for all we know.

Maybe his parents just don't care.

he probably lives right there in the city, and his parent don't care, or aren't home. :(

kid was a pickpocket. usually pickpockets must give money to their boss. sort of like a pimp.

And how did they know the kid was being robbed? Who called? It was a fricking dark alley.

I was wondering about that too; it was weird - he's so young. My guess was that he was at a Boys and Girls Club or KIDCO and got bullied by some kids as he was walking to his bus stop.
Who knows, though? He could've also been homeless. (Geeze, I hope not :( )

Well, the little Shadow freak was filmed in the arcade, so I'm guessing there's late night stuff that a kid way too young to be out can slip into. The real question is the creeps mugging a little kid- wheres the Neighborhood Watch in Metropolois?
I'm guessing Clark was en route to a call and heard the kid crying for help - its the only theory that makes sense as no one was reporting it.

Well from all it's previous depictions Metropolis a city with a dark underbelly - there is no neighbourhood watch.

If you listen to the scene:
The police scanner said: Disturbance behind the arcade.
The kid was probably in the arcade (or on his way in) and the punks robbed him and dragged him into the alley.
Kids in arcades generally have money and parents let them run around for an hour spending it while they talk.

That's what I thought. That they were more bullies tormenting the kid than criminal types.

kid out late in the inner city.....he's a monster, meaning CK actually saved those thugs from getting ripped to pieces before that kid morphed into a beast. (i tried)

Sv's budget is tight...... they don't have enough funds to show him playing on a new set that depicts he's near his house/apartment in Metropolis. We're stuck with the same bendy street and alley for this season it seems.
