View Full Version : Does this make you want a Season 9?

The success of season 8, especially the latter episodes like prey made me think about a season 9 of the show. I no longer hate the idea of a possible season 9.
I can't say im ashamed of the series like i had to before, and im really loving the episodes like i did in the old days.
Season 8 has been a fresh breath of air from the CW, and i can say i honestly hope there will be a season 9!
Although i know this is most unlikely, it's more of a "nice work guys, if you made a season 9 i would watch it" kinda thing.

I definitely am championing a season 9 more than any other season simply because we are finally getting into the stuff we've known was coming all this time. Also, there was an extremely sharp increase in the quality of writing, acting, etc.

Have to wait to see how this season unfolds. We're not even halfway through it.
It could turn turkey, or golden.
The previous writing team mapped out story lines that would cover two years.
Are they continuing this method (this season was decided last year?) ?
Did the writers strike throw everything out of whack?
Is 'Doomsday' the new 'Brainiac' - story chain wise?
I figure by episode 15, we'll all see if there is any spring left in the show's step.

Just because I thought it should have ended years ago doesn't mean I should stop watching. And even when the show is done, I'll still be part of the fandom.

That's true.
I think there should be a season 9, if all things go well, and the episodes keep getting better "like Prey", that episode was just awesome.
If we get more episodes like that then I say go for it !!! And try for season 9. :)

I had to vote for "Yes" since the other optiom wasn't a simple "No"... :\
I wouldn't hate a S9, and if PS3 can make the rest of S8 and S9 as good as 8.01 - 8.06 have been, then I would be happy with another season.

I honestly thought the show was going to end in Season 7. I was shocked that we got Season 8. I dont even think I wanted a Season 9, but now the show seems like its doing so well again that I really do want to see Season 9 now. I mean, Im just shocked by how good the show is again. It seems like they always find a way to kick new life into the show just when you think its about to die. Anybody remember how bad Season 4 started to get toward the end? We thought it had jumped the shark. And then BAM! we got Season 5 which hit the ground running with Arrival. Thats how this Season has felt to me. It has really breathed new life into the show.

I would love to see a season nine. I recently had a chance to ask Jennifer Breslow (the Vice President of Drama Development at the CW) about a possible season 9 (it was kind of strange, because her talk was mostly about 90210), but she was nice and told me that she doesn't yet know the fate of Smallville...
... but if PS3 want it, if the Tom Welling wants it, and if the CW allows it, I would so happily watch season 9.

Voted "No", because of "Prey". This episode totally dissapointed me and reminded me of season 7, which is my least favourite season of Smallville!
I hope very much, that they'll end the show after this season - for "Smallville" 's sake!

Indeed. There's also impossible for the writers to tie up all the loose ends, that has come up so far (and will probably be more) with the ten episodes left (I'm not counting the episodes between Identity and Bulletproof). Davis Bloome's full origin and his final transformation into Doomsday, Tess Mercer's origin, What happened to Lex Luthor, the team Tess is putting together, who sent the crystal to Clark, the Justice League reforms, more public knowledge of super heroes and metahumans, Martian Manhunter getting his powers back (assuming it won't happen offscreenville, by Jor-El), introduction of the Green Lantern (I've read something about potential plans about introducing him into Smallville, unless that was just some AlMiles said), Clark taking on his glasses and the creation of the Superman suit. Then we also have unresolved stuff from episodes during earlier seasons.

Of course they can wrap it all up - think only about "Odyssey". How much stuff they packed into only one single episode,....... and then wasted actually so much screentime in "Toxic".
I lost hope, that they will ever be able to have better balanced episodes.
One time they put in so much, that it's almost ridiculous and your head is spinning because of the amount of answered questions, and the other time, they put in so-called filler episodes, that one wonders why they've wasted time and so many opportunities to finally tie up those loose ends, you've been talking about in your post.
I don't believe that there has to be season 9 to let them do, what you're dreaming about. They lost track during season 5 and I don't think, they will ever get it right, even if there would be more seasons than 9.
I was so optimistic since this season began, but after "Prey" my concerns are back!
It'll be better IMO, they'll let it end after season 8.

yeah well, season 7 was IMO just awful, and I was pleasently surprised about how this season has started out.
I'm not saying, that season 8 is going to be an other season 7, but "Prey" just brought back my concerns I had after season 7 ended.
Of course I'm thinking, let's wait and see, how it'll go on, but nevertheless I do hope that Smallville will end after this season.

I agree, they could have gotten out a much better season. They could have made Bizarro into more of a recurring villan, that posses a greater threat to Clark, then Brainiac, Zod or Lex, since he actually looks like Clark and possesses the same powers, while also being a murderer. It could have been like this; Bizarro moves around and commits murders, which causes much problems for Clark, since Bizarro's appearance and prints are identical to his. But, instead, they just had him come back, fall inlove with Lana and then get killed by her.
Sleeper was probably the worst episode of the season: Jimmy becoming a spy for 15 minutes, I mean, come on an entire episode about how Jimmy lives out some stupid, childish fantasy about the life of a spy. Also, if the DDS suspected Chloe being a terrorist and having discovered her hacking into goverment computors, why not just arrest her? Why try and recruit her boyfriend (who, for all they know, could also be a terrorist).

In a perfect world, Smallville would end with Clark claiming his destiny just as Lex turns against him and the series ending in a cataclysmic showdown where the lines are drawn in the sand and we as viewers 'know' that both Clark and Lex have become the mortal enemies of Superman legend.
By S7, it was Lex who had gone further along that path than Clark. I hope the show has enough steam for a S9 - notice that Clark had to hyperspeed his way onto the DP payroll  - so that Clark can also be on the verge of earning the right to bear that S-shield on his chest. It's still early, so the fingers are crossed. "Prey" gives me some hope.

exactly! They wasted so many good ideas, like you said, with Bizzarro or with Kara and his other kryptonian family members - it was actually only painful to watch, IMO.
The whole Traveler arc was sooo totally out of nowhere and IMO not well executed at all.
They turned out initially good ideas into worthless stories, and that just hurts a fan like me, who's been watching this show from day one. :(
Again, as I said before, I hope very much, this won't happen to season 8 and that they'll end it with this season.

ok, like i said before in other threads, i respect everyones opinion, but i would really, really want a season 9. i think that the show has become a lot better than last season. i can't help but wonder if that has anything to do with the new PTB. so if they want to venture to season 9 i will definetely be watching.:)

They could wrap it all up in the rest of the season, but it could easily feel rushed and/or messy.
I'm definitely not as oppossed to a S9 as I was before the season began, and I'm even less oppessed after seeing "Prey."

Yeah, When I first saw the end of Jinx, I had some big hopes up. I was sure we were going to see a band of super villans soon and here we are four seasons later (we've been screwed) and we still haven't seen any villan team.

That is awesome!
SEASON NINE WILL HAPPEN!
Although 6-Super-Man -5 is sure Season 9 will happen, the facts point towards a cancelation/mutual ending agreement after this season.
Surely MR will not return as a series regular again and he is essential to the storyline, and it also looks like CK is gonna strap on his tights very soon and fly around like MM hinted in Prey
And quoting TW and the producers "the moment CK becomes Superman there will no longer be a show"
So the question is, how long can the writers postpone CK becoming Superman? Well this is where i can agree with the ones who voted yes (including myself), beacause the writers should be able to postpone it quite extensively if they wanted! That is essentialy a writers job, to work around things and create quirks/twists-turns etc.
So the REAL question is, how good are the writers on smallville? Well after the recent episodes i would say the quality is indeed quite high. And im sure they could cough up some interesting stuff in the future or the worst-case scenarios would be to linger the show on to obscurity.
So the REAL REAL question is, if we could have a season 9, would we even want one??
The answer is simple, make as many season as you wish because we have something called freedom of choice, and common logic.
Easy math says
If:
Season 9= Crap
answer: don't watch
If:
Season 9= good
answer:watch
Either way, you'r not gambling anything because its a win-win situation for us viewers.
Anyway, im sure everyone here would watch Smallville even if we ended up on season 27 and way way into obscurity.
it's part of being a fan:)

I never really thought SV would even have a Season 8. With the departure of some important and popular cast members, I thought that meant the end to the series. When shows lose their key players it usually spells out disaster for the show. But, with the way things are going and how great everyone on the show has been, I want a Season 9 more than EVER!
Well, as long as everyone stays...

As long as TW stays- I want a season 9, but only if they move him closer to being superman, & not moving back. I LOVE S8 so far, & the spoilers that have been released get's me even more excited for this season. :D
Mummbles
10-27-2008, 05:44 AM
Sure Season 8 is a step up from Season 6 and 7 but...that isn't saying much considering most of Season 6 and 7 was either 'good ideas done badly' (Chloe's mum anyone?) or 'bad ideas that should never have existed ever' (Lexana Pregnancy and Wedding springs to mind). Not to mention wasted potential (Kara) and stalling. I did enjoy Season 7 more than 6 I have to say, but they weren't on par with 3 or 5 (I wasn't too big on 4 though).
But I only want a Season 9 if we can get a good amount of the cast back and the writing is well...well written. Tom, Alison and Erica at least. I'm not a fan of Jimmy, so I could personally live without Aaron and it depends whether or not they can get Michael back on board, but I never want Kristen back...ever...she should have left at S3.
So right now I don't really want it, unless there is enough steam left for a decent season and they can get the key members of the cast back for sure. No more of this losing half of the cast by the end of the season stuff. I still can't believe how they axed Kara right after they lost John and two of the main three actors, it just doesn't make any sense in my opinion. But oh well I guess that bridge has already been crossed.

At the moment I'm thinking if they want to keep going another season, they should rename the show to Metropolis as it no longer base in Smallville.

I have liked all the episodes this season, so I'm wanting a season 9.
Then again, unlike others, I actually thought season 7 was decent, and I think seasons 5 and 6 were the best Smallville seasons ever. So to me, the show is getting BETTER with time.

At first I thought yes Smallville should be ending given the weakness and uneven approach to the show from Season 4 to Season 7 (Season 7 had great potential but due to the writer's strike, it became very rushed afterwards.) Also with the departure of Michael Rosenbaum, personally I thought it would be tough to pull it off.
And yet I am very happy that I am wrong!
At the present moment, Season 8 is nothing but amazing and has brought back that wonderful feeling I had when I discovered the show around Season 2. First I thought it would be like some overkill with the introduction of Tess, Oli and Doomsday. From watching the recent episodes, these fulltime characters blend in very well with the direction Smallville is heading for Season 8. Hopefully it stays strong and even more so as the season progresses.
On a personal level this show has great meaning to me since during these years Smallville is on, I had some of the best experiences and moments of my life with friends, family, etc. Also Smallville is one of the great shows of the once amazing WB and keeping this show alive keeps the WB legacy going.
So yes please allow a Season 9.
The only gripe I have with Season 8 is that it lacked good music. If it wasn't for this show I would of never discovered amazing bands like Greenwheel and Vonray.

If they continue down this same road, then a season 9 would be good, although I think they need to change the name of the show to "Metropolis."
Seasons 4 and 5 were the best. The show lost its way in Season 6 with the wedding/fake pregnancy story line. Also, it seemed that TPTB abandoned the idea of turning Clark into Superman during those seasons.
Finally, this season, Clark's working at the Planet, getting over Lana, getting into Lois, thinking about a secret identity, and most importantly, SAVING PEOPLE instead of stacking bales of hay and shovelling horse manure.
The series should end when Clark puts on the tights, and flies off into the sunset. Whether that will happen this season or next depends upon how quickly TPTB can correct the missteps they took in seasons 6 and 7.

I found that shocking as well. But in retrospect, she should have been a recurring character like Martian Manhunter or Brainiac. Having her in the main cast caused her to outshine Clark and then we had one more character whose development came at the expense of Clark's development. He looked like a loser compared to her. He was pw'd by Lana, dependent on Chloe, and not as Kryptonian or heroic as his cousin. I did not like watching Clark in that condition and that's why I was turned off by season 7.
I think PS3 knew where they wanted Clark to be in season 8 and in order to do that, they had to remove Kara and Lana from his life and give Chloe her own life and distance from Clark. PS3 would never have the cajones to fire KK, but luckily, KK did not renew her contract.

That is good news. I'd also prefer that he had an apartment in the city, but at least he can catch the #39 Metropolis Transit express bus from Smallville every morning to work. It seems to be a 15-minute trip for him at this point.

Perheps, they'll do an episode (partially) involving that. Clark runs into another future super hero or someone else from the comics, that is currently living at 344 Clinton. After a series of event, during one or two episodes, the character decides to leave Metropolis and gives Clark the keys to the appartment, just in case, he'll ever get tired of Smallville.

Season 9 sounds like an awesome idea, clark hasn't even flown yet uptil season 7 and the justice league have been hiding in the shadows, season 9 can be an opportunity to reveal other characters like the batman and also put the flash in action. It can also be an opportunity to see the Martian Manhunter in a little more action. They should extend it upto season 10 and pull the wires then, so it can be an even number and also alot can happen in two seasons, you never know! Maybe the green lantern could also be introduced to the smallville fans.
----- Added 6 Minutes later -----
I hope the show goes on for a few more seasons, we deserve to see a little more of the justice league like the batman and the green lantern. If the show ended after ten seasons it would still be fine at least we would have an even 10 seasons you could also say the show lasted a dacade.
