Dialog from Prey:
------------------------------------------------------------------------
Clark: I know it isn't easy.
Chloe: What, my perpetual knack for getting into lose-lose situations?
------------------------------------------------------------------------
I'm curios. What do y'all think Chloe was referring to when she said that?

Hmm, that is a good question. They were talking about Davis being a possible suspect and Clark told her it wasn't easy to think of a friend as a possible serial killer.
Then she said that so I am confused as to what she meant by it. LOL, I know I'm stating the obvious when I say this but she was definitely referring to Davis and Clark!
I think what she meant was that if she sided with Clark she would lose Davis as a friend, and if she sided with Davis... Clark would feel betrayed.

I'm not sure...I was curious about this scene. Clark saying "I know it isnt easy" was the beginning of my confusion. I dont know if he meant trying to do the right thing isnt always easy....or looking into a friend as a suspect isnt easy.
Then Chloe saying she always gets into lose-lose situations....hmm...I really dont know. Maybe she was forshadowing a bit? That either Davis is a killer...which...yea...she loses. Or he isnt and she has to deal with her feelings towards him? Thats probably not it....
Or she loses if she's right...and Davis is innocent, because that leaves clark feeling bad. Or Clark is rght....and she loses a friend (Davis).
Good question!!

I think that statement referenced a few things, past and present, such as:
1. Her unrequited feelings for Clark.
2. Her alliance with Lionel to uncover Clarks secret a few years ago.
3. Getting caught hacking into government networks.
4. Her relationship with Lex is currently not a good one.
5. other stuff I can't think of at the moment.

I can add one to that list:
6) Trusting Davis almost suddenly from meeting him like she trusted Clark, and now (at that point in the episode) facing the fact that the evidence adds up to him being a murderer.
I think it was yet another honest self-depreciation moment.
1. Her unrequited feelings for Clark.
2. Her alliance with Lionel to uncover Clarks secret a few years ago.
3. Getting caught hacking into government networks.
4. Her relationship with Lex is currently not a good one.
5. other stuff I can't think of at the moment
1. not real applicable
2. Perfect example. Rephrased: starting an alliance w/ Lionel without any way to get out of it once she realized her mistake.
3. Good example. Rephrased: letting Lana stay in pain or risking her freedom by hacking into a government computer
4. She doesn't want a good relationship with Lex. I don't think this is a good example.
5. Trying to help the MF even though many of them are going to end up being villains. St Jude should be her patron saint. She knows it's the right thing to do to try and catch these guys before they go psycho. Plastique & Shadow guy are two failures. Now she had hardly anytime to try and prevent what happened, but what happened to them is what she's trying to stop. But it's a lose lose. She won't save everyone and may get killed, fail to stop them from causing damage, or look like an idiot for even taking up the cause in the first place.
6. She trusted Davis and it looked (at that point) like he was a killer. She didn't want Clark to be right and she didn't want Clark to be wrong. Lose-lose.
7. Trusting Dr. Knox to remove her meteor power when he was Jack the Ripper (for real).
8. The Adam Brody episode S1 when she thought she knew him well due to e-mails and he was a psycho.
9. The S1 cold guy episode where she was charmed by the loser who tried to kill her.
10. The S2 episode with the twins.
It IS interesting to note that most of her lose-lose situations were either when she was young (before senior year in fact) and then are associated with risking herself to help someone.
Perhaps, with Lana gone, she is being put back into damsel in distress mode so she will naturally make more mistakes than when she was the smart sidekick.

i appreciate everyone's input! :)
It's my understanding that the term lose-lose means "nobody wins", nothing is gained by anyone involved and the outcome is a bad one. ... as opposed to a win-win situation in which everyone wins, etc.
Chloe speaking to Clark of her "perpetual knack for getting into lose-lose situations", seemed to make even him take a second to think just what she might be referring to. Besides Davis, I guess she could be thinking about what happened with the MF girl from the clinic and Bette (Plastique), as well as other stuff, but I do think Clark may have been thinking other stuff meaning her relationships.... idk.

What gave you that impression? It was obvious he was trying empathize and reach out to her but I am not sure why.

oh, I'm sure he was when he said I know it's not easy. But then when she came back with her response. "What, my perpetual l knack for getting into lose-lose situations?" I think it threw him a little cause that's not what he meant and he didn't expect her to take it that way. I think he meant that it's not easy dealing with a situation where you thought someone was your friend. Of course in true-to-form CHloe, that was probably just her snarky response.
----- Added 3 Minutes later -----
but for her to suggest that it's perpetual, like it continually happens all the time, makes ya wonder.

I think you've hit the nail on the head there - that's exactly what I thought.
For example when she fell for that boy with damaged hand and refused to believe any suggestions he was killer and then it turned out to be true and he ended up trying to kill Chloe herself - another lose-lose situation. Bette is another example - she has a knack for putting her trust in the wrong people.

It's interesting that you mentioned Crush because there will be some parallels to that episode this season.
Chlark at odds
Chloe involved with someone dangerous but being mislead
Clark suspicious of Davis and investigating him behind the scenes
Chloe realizes the truth about Davis
Chloe in danger
Clark comes to Chloe's aid to save her
Thankfully, I don't think we will see the petty jealousy that Chlark displayed in Crush because they are mature now.

Kalista this is a really good list and everything that I like about this episode for the most part. Didn't realize that there was a flash of "Crush" in it.

There will be some element of jealousy though. Clark has already expressed his and I think Davis will become more obsessed with Chloe.
He knows that he is engaged but he really hasn't been respecting those boundaries. When he sensed a weakness in the relationship, he expressed his interest.
Davis seems to have a contempt for Jimmy and Clark.

she's gotten herself into some bad situations over the years, often unwittingly..you can say the same thing for Lana,Pete, Lois, etc.... i think that's all she meant.

Khyla, look at this quote from Crush about the situation with Justin.
Chloe: I just spoke to Justin's parents.
Clark: How's he doing?
Chloe: He's in the psychiatric ward. The police don't really know what to charge him with, but at least he won't hurt anybody. So, should we do the "I told you so" part, or is my perennial bad judgment implicit?
Clark: Chloe, I wish I were wrong.
Chloe: What is it with me? I can spot Wall of Weird material from a mile away, but put it right in front of me and I'm oblivious.
Clark: You're not oblivious, you're trusting. You're strong enough to take risks with your emotions. I wish I were as brave as you.

She protects & trusts strangers too much and way too soon. There will be many more issue's for her if she keep doing this, she will loose all her true friends. She trusted a complet stranger more than her longtime friend who she knew better than anybody else.Plus, she dared calling him a coward.First news, didn't know his secret was too much for her.She sounds just like Pete now.I hope she will learn from her mistakes and will not repeat them like Lana used to do.

I felt really sorry for Chloe in Crush. This is an exact set up of that although Davis isn't exactly her love interest, Jimmy is. She is still going to get hurt. Hopefully she will learn to be more cautious about who she puts her trust in after this.
On a side note, I noticed the other day that the guy who played Justin from Crush is now starring in the OC :)
