Just wondered if anyone else laughed a little at the start of the episode?

I let out a slight chuckle when it started off as a circle of people at meteor freaks anonymous. I was almost expecting each one of them to get up admit their ability and to get a round of applause and thanks for 'sharing and being so brave' LOL.

It was slightly too cheesy for me.

I'm not gonna lie, that was a little random. But, it pulled me in once one of the meteor freaks were killed.

I rolled my eyes.

But as the scene went on I really liked what Mary (?) had to say. I liked "pocket protector" too and I applauded Chloe's efforts.

I did not find it cheesy at all. I liked that Chloe had the meeting at ISIS, I would have been very angry if the season progressed and we did not see Chloe counseling/helping meteor freaks like she said she wanted to and it all happened in Offscreenville.

Your "no, this is a serious matter" option seems a little mocking... but still funny. I didn't laugh at the gathering though.

And here's my take on the Isis gathering:

It's new to the show. We usually get tainted Meteor Freaks that want nothing more than the destruction of human life, or other Meteor Freaks that are misguided but still antagonists. It's rare to have Meteor Freaks that want to fit in and mean no harm to anyone. Even more rare is we got to see a group of them together while some of them shared their abilities for us. This might be a first on the show.

And it was really interesting to see a large group of young, unknown actors guest star on the show, they were very attractive in their own ways and even had personalities unique to the show (ie. a geek, a skater, a goth etc). Some of them had plenty of dialogue for quest stars, and they had more than one scene together.

All of this, to me, is the work of ideals, visions and direction of the new producers. And it's great.

it's serious...Clark is on his way to becoming Superman...becoming a mentor to Meta Humans and the Meteor Infected will be part of that journey...you can expect Clark to embrace Chloe's project on a personal level in the future...

I completely agree. I really like that they actually showed Chloe doing some of her Isis work ONscreen--that was great. I hope we have more of this in the future.

And I wonder if any of this has ties to Tess's team? Maybe all of the Isis members will be tempted with the offer, and the ones who don't join will have to fight the Injustice League someday?

I didnt laugh.
We all knew this is what Chloe was planning to do. Since this show is sci-fi, obviously in our world none of us have powers we need to cope with. But in the world of Smallville, we know MFs have a hard time. I mean we've been following Clark for the last seven years- we know how hard it is for him to have powers and be different. So I though it was serious and I didnt laugh.

It wasn't at all what I was expecting and at the outset I did laugh. After the first few mins I finally got into it.

It was a bit cliche though and Clark played up to that cliche by saying that line 'rather than sitting round singing kum by yah' lol

When I imagined Chloe mentoring meteor freaks I kind of imagined her dealing with people on a one to one basis rather than group therapy sessions. I mean if we buy into the world of Smallville and these ppl really exist it would be a very personal thing. I doubt people would want other people to know what their abilities were. I would think they would want to work on one to one basis.

Group therapy, I think, would especially help with having powers because it would take away the fear of being alone and the only one.

Group therapy would be like the next step after extensive one to one sessions I would have thought.

I'm not sure how comfortable people would be in discussing their abilities in a group after taking that first step and admitting they have an ability in the first place. Also I wonder how much use group therapy would be anyway in the case of meteor freaks - it's not like they have an addiction or need to control their anger. It could only really be useful for learning that there are others out there like them and sharing their feelings on their abilities.

Also something else that I thought about was why were all the meteor freaks young? There could have been older people that were affected by the meteor shower or received meteor infected transplants etc.?

No. The tone of the episode was quite serious so I didn't see any humor.

I don't know the way the episode started with that girl and how she didn't get the doll she wanted from Santa. It just kind of reminded me of Gremlins and the woman (the guy's love interest) who always had these awful stories of terrible things that happened to her at Xmas. For instance her father pretending to be Santa and breaking his leg while climbing down the chimney and burning to death in the fire :rotfl:

It was over dramatic, cliched and cheesy.

I laughed when Clark saved all those people - it was the funniest thing, I just kept thinking to myself, 'finally!'

As for the Isis Foundation group sessions, no I didn't laugh... I thought it was a good idea to show how the program actually runs. As far as the show has ever exhibited, (from its inception to just recently), the Isis Foundation has only functioned as a computer center to hack heavily protected servers or to push paper and talk about helping the meteor infected, but never actually doing it.

It was nice to see that the Isis Foundation is used as it was meant to be. No, we don't need to see it used that way every week, but if helping the meteor infected is why Chloe has picked up from where Lana left off, we should see her helping people.

We have seen meteor infected people getting treatment at the Isis foundation before.

It was a much more low key and discreet affair when Lana ran it. The clients waited in reception and were seen on a one to one basis. No OTT group therapy sessions.

At least that's the impression I got when Chloe went to the centre to seek help herself and met Lana.

Yes and definitely the 'my kids' phrase from Chloe was very lame. I have a problem with all the people that turned up being young. We have seen evidence that not all meteor freaks are teens - it can afflict anybody young and old. It would have been more convincing to show a range of people from different age groups and backgrounds. Or am I mistaken and meteor infection only happens to young, trendy camera friendly teens - preferably EMOs

Me too. I voted yes-it-was-funny, but I didn't find it funny. I found it weird to the point of parody.

I guess, I hadn't really thought about that. My point was, that we never saw the Isis Foundation in action - those people in the lobby could have been there for any reason, to get a job, to get help, who knows? It was all left to interpretation, but this time we actually saw people getting helped - or at least trying to be helped.

You're right though, the meteors infect people of all ages. It may have been more realistic to show older individuals in the group sessions - it also would have gotten rid of that "my kids" line. Then again, maybe the older group is more hesitant to come forward. The "kids" are the ones who were generally left behind by their parents who didn't know how to deal with them or are scared because they want to fit in but no longer know how. Adults, of course, may have similar problems, but I remember Chloe saying she wanted to get them "early," so maybe that's why she has made a special call for a younger generation of the meteor infected.

I didn't laugh, though I thought it was weird that Chloe didn't say anything when the kids used their powers against each other. She thought it was funny and smiled.

The only time I laugh was when this kid was trapped by the two bullies, closed his eyes and start punching the air (or was it dog paddling?). The scene was so cheesy that it was worth a laugh.

I thought the counselling group was a serious attempt but they didn't pull off the scene that well. Oh well, this is Smallville what do we expect?

I laughed my face off. From Mary's santa story, till they signed out. The whole situation came off as akward to me. I especially laughed when Mary burned that geek that turned out to be a copycat killer.

Ha ha ha yes, the Santa story was definitely a big mistake. Why oh why even mention santa when it's supposed to be a serious thing. They could have made up a better meteor skill discovery story for Mary than that. It just reminded me of the girlfriend from Gremlins and the kind of overly dramatic sad stories she used to tell and made me laugh :rotfl:

it was kind of hideously cheesy and almost a little patronising... i mean i know they have groups for everything these days, but something a little more hands on would have been better

i couldnt help comparing it to xavier's school for the gifted... why couldn't the scene have started with the girl using her powers and Chloe helping her to stay focused or something... why a group circle like that

i mean they aren't trying to quit their powers, they are trying to control them
