It's not very important but i just wonder:was the actress that played Mary at the beginning the same one that played the grown up Emily Dinsmore in Forsaken at season 3?She sure looked a lot like her.

No, her name was Mary Pierson. Mary Marvel's true identity is Mary Batson (adopted as Mary Bromfield).

Mary was played by Julia Maxwell, while the grown up Emily Dinsmore was played by an actress namned Amber Rothwell.

I think it was merely a 'nod' at the character Mary Marvel while not actually being that character. Kinda like a homage to another character because they wanted to give comic fans a little thrill. I don't think they realized it would upset people.

Much like Smallville's Clark Kent is a "nod" to the "real" Superman?
Come on dude, the entire show itself is a "homage"

When you have a multitude of superfreaks there's
bound to be a number of mutants with similar or
identical powers.

Actually, Mary possessed electrical powers, while Mary Marvel possesses Kryptonian-like abilities (minus x-ray vision, heat vision and super hearing). The only thing that is similar with these two girls are that their first name is Mary, which isn't really an unusual name.

That wasn't Mary Marvel AT ALL.
It was Livewire, she wore a lightening necklace representing Livewires costume, and just like her possessed the ability to control electricity.
Wiki write-up for Livewire.

According to that, I'm also not the only one who feels this way.

Actually, she was just a random reference to the character, since she's dead. Personally, I think they should also avoid having any future Superman villian, be a meteor freak.
