I was not looking forward to a more comedic Smallville mostly because I didn't see it being pulled off effectively. But, I have been proven wrong.

Last week had hysterical moments. And these week had a few notables.

Davis- "What are you doing here?

Jimmy - "Just following up on the contacts in chloe's cell and...oh not in a crazy way."

I butchered this with paraphrasing, but you get the idea.

Anyway, how do you think the funny is going on smallville?

I think that it's being used well. It's not blatantly thrown at us like we're supposed to be on the floor laughing, but it's used when it's appropriate and doesn't seem out of character (for the character that uses it). Like Lois, "Pants. Pants on everyone." line from last week or Chloe's talk about how she expected a night with movies actually being a night with movies.

I thought it was funny when Clark leapt onto the building. If you paid attention, Shelby made a cameo in the background.

Just enough humor to break up the seriousness of the episodes. They are doing a good job this year.

I thought it was hilarious when Jimmy asked Martian Manhunter about "the hero".

This was a dark episode, the humor helps bring the lighthearted nature of every Superman story, of course things arent always a stroll in the park but Supe´s stories are inherently lighter than most Superheroes.

Humor is always appreciated. This is Smallville after all, not Heroes. Heroes is the deconstruction of the Superman/superhero myth and Smallville is the genesis of it. There should always be a purity and levity to Smallville despite really dark subject matter.

It comes in spurts and it is welcome in my book

I love the humour as long as theres not too much that takes away from the seriousness of the show.

Even Tom let slip a wee smile when MM told him about wearing a mask.

That was funny.

I also burst out laughing when Davis told Jimmy that he didn't want to be riding shotgun with him.

Jimmy....Jimmy Olson.....riding shotgun....that would be a sight i would love to see.

No kidding! Dean and the animals and Jensen and the Eye of the Tiger. :rotfl:

The humor in this episode was more ironic. Chloe, asking Clark for dinner and a movie and being treated to fast food and a romantic night of being ignored for a police scanner.

Martian Manhunter, telling Clark he can't be sure that his identity is at risk unless he plans to put on a mask. And Clark was right on it, calling the statement a joke.

MM again, telling Clark that they could use the help.

Jimmy, with Clark standing right behind him, saying that he is going to prove that the mysterious hero of Metropolis exists.

And the piece de resistance, Davis, tellling Jimmy you never can tell these days about being some psycho and later, saying he's not some larger than life hero. Dun, dun, dun.

humor is always needed. even though i think this episode was not as humoristic because of the plot. it was ok.

The whole plot was funny. I pointed this out in another thread regarding the shadow killer, but I'll post it here to because it's related.

The shadow killer was supposed to be ironic in that Clark and gang were chasing a shadow, as opposed to the actual threat (What made the shadow). Looking at it from this perspective, Davis' actions made the shadow (Since the shadow tried to copy him and take credit). But, Davis, the source of the shadow, was not captured.

That's very smart-funny which I think Smallville is kind of nailing this season.

I know. I didn't know how to put more than two options.

Love the humor, expecially when it is coming from Lois. I didn't notice much humor in Prey. Certainly a darker episode.

MM made 2 funny remarks,he called Lois...mouthy cohort and told Clark if he planned to wear a mask.So much for the touch of humour.Anyway, this episode had to be serious, dark and creepy after all Doomsday was in town.
