Hourglass - An old man uses green meteor rock to reverse the aging process, then gain vengeance on the children of the jury that put him away decades earlier. Meanwhile, another woman at the same old folks' home has prophetic abilities and she sees the futures of both Clark and Lex.
Redux - Martha's father William comes to town after many years of estrangement due to his disapproval of Jonathan. Meanwhile Clark must deal with a series of old-age deaths at Smallville High, and the new principal puts his foot down.
Relic - Clark discovers that Jor-El was on Earth forty years ago. Lana's great uncle, who was convicted of murdering his wife forty years ago, shows her a picture of the man he believes really killed her aunt, and she is shocked to discover the drifter looks just like Clark. Sure that the man is Jor-El, Clark's investigation leads him to a Kryptonian medallion that allows him to see bits of the past – and the life that Jor-El started for him long before he arrived on Earth.
Transference - Clark is drawn to the state penitentiary by one of the Kryptonian crystals, which Lionel is using to switch bodies with Lex. Clark intervenes and Lionel enters his body instead. While Lionel uses his new found super-powers to regain his lost fortune and alienate Clark's friends, Clark must convince his parents that he is the "real" Clark and reverse the process, while avoiding murderous convicts.
Exposed - Jonathan's oldest friend, Senator Jack Jennings, comes to Smallville looking for support in his re-election campaign, but is framed for the murder of his mistress, requiring Lois to go undercover as a stripper. (HOT)
Fallout - After escaping from the Phantom Zone, Raya comes to Smallville to visit Clark. Raya and Clark grow close, and Raya reveals how to repair the Fortress of Solitude. Unfortunately, Baern, another escapee seeks out revenge on Clark and Raya for his time spent in the Zone.
Lara - Kara goes to Washington to look for her missing crystal, but is captured after she breaks into the lab. She's interrogated with a memory-revealing serum that has kryptonite in it, which makes her relive a trip to Earth from the past. In this past trip she followed Lara, Clark's biological mother, to the Kents' farm.
Prey - A serial killer is on the loose in Metropolis, but Clark and Chloe find themselves on opposing sides when Clark believes that Davis Bloome is responsible, while Chloe defends her new friend. Doomsday is upon us...

Transference is really going to be hard to beat, IMO, but I'm hoping Prey can do it! (I loved Transference though. One of my all-time favorite episodes just because JG and TW both did such a great job in the acting in it.)
Relic always makes me laugh to think of the review I read of it once.
Looking forward to seeing how "Prey" stacks up! :D

Lol my favourite is without hesitation "transferance", I like very much Clark as Lionel. I think it was such an opportunity for TW to play the villain for once and he did it so perfectly. And hey, Dodge066, did you notice the "mademoiselle, parlez vous anglais ?" from TW when he phoned ? I was:):);) To me, from all seasons, it is one of the best episode :p

Transference, Hourglass, and Relic were all pretty good episodes (even Redux was interesting). But I think Prey will surpass them in my opinion. I'll have to see. This so far seems to be the best episode of the season.

Yeah, I waited to see Prey because I wanted to give it a fair shot, but Transference was just a little too hard to beat, IMO. It was a high bar there, so I can't diss Prey for having failed to top it (to me). It gave it a run for its money!
But Transference gets the prize.

I voted for Transference just because I loved Tom and John's performance as each other, and Tom was super hot in it, Exposed was awesome too so it is my second choice. Prey it is definitely very close, I'd say together with Exposed. They all rule anyway

Transference was amazing cause tom really stepped it up in that one, but i had to give it to Exposed. I can't resist the Clois in that. watched it too many times... ;)
Prey was by no means bad though. Excellent episode! i loved every minute of it. Sam Witwer is proving himself to be a great actor.
I'm suprised not that many people picked hourglass. it was one of the best of season 1.

Actually in this list, Transference is my favorite, not only for TW and JG acting, but for the little bits in it. The disturbing pseudo-incest moment when Lionel (in Clark's body) gets the hots for Martha and sets the shrub outdoors on fire. The nerdy cellmate and his nervous stuttering. TW looking *hot* in tailored clothing - and dressed in black!
My next favorite is "Relic" - primarily for the flying sequence. We rarely get to see Clark fly (hardly ever), so when he, as Jor-El, lifts Lana (as her aunt) up in the air, it's a great moment.
"Redux" (Clark meets his maternal grandfather) and "Lara" (Clark meets his mother) - what is this about sixth episodes of the season?
"Fallout" - props for Bow Wow and for restoring the Fortress from the Zod/Brainiac devastation, but not incredibly great.
"Exposed" - rather lame. Good just to see Lois in her sailor costume. Not that they don't put her in revealing costumes every week on this show.
"Hourglass" - the FOTW wasn't anything special, but the episode is memorable for Cassandra, the old lady with the visions, showing Clark how he will be all alone, how he will outlive all those he cares for. (Or will he? We'll never know for sure.)
"Prey" - I think it's too early to tell. I thought it was a good episode but every episode needs time to settle, to become part of the canon, and to have its significance observed.

All great episodes, for some reason I like Relic. Of course Tranference was great. Tom Welling and John Glover were great in their roles. I like Prey as setting up the rest of the episodes this season. In that essence, it was great. So far this is shaping up to be the best season yet. Not one bad episode so far. Plus so many more great episodes to come

I can't decide between Prey and Transference. Prey is one of the best episodes to date, but Transference was really good too. It has three strong acting perfomances from TW, JG and MR. And it has one of my favourite scenes in SV history.
The bit where Clark, (who's really Lionel), asks Lex for his 57 million dollars back. That's an amazing scene. One of TW's best performances, his delivery throughout was so good. I liked it when Clionel jibes Lex about stealing his malts. Then after asking Lex for the money he says, "That's not you're money, you stole it". TW was bang on with his delivery. This whole scene is so good because this is when things come to ahead. Clionel is physically Clark, but he's interacting with Lex as if he were Lionel. The tension, the suspense!! Clionel then grabs Lex by the throat and says, "All I wanted was the best for you, and you destroyed me." And then Lex goes, "Dad?"
One of my favourite TW/MR scenes.
And then afterwards, when Clark is himself and visits Lex. Lex pulls a gun on him, and for a few seconds there's a stand-off between them.
Ugh! I can't decide.

----- Added 2 Minutes later -----
New episodes always get a stupid number of votes in these polls. last year, Lara came in second to Transference, whereas now it's second to last. The shiny-newness of episodes really throws these polls way off.
A year or so after SV goes off the air, you'll be able to get an accurate picture of how people felt about particular episodes...any time before then, and the most recent season is going to be grossly overestimated in the voting.
It's not always like that, such as when an episode sticks out as just being plain bad (think "Fierce," "Hero," or "Sleeper"). ;)

There was no contest--for me it had to be Transference. That episode is easily one of the top ten of the whole show for me and just completely rules. Though like many others here I do love Hourglass.
I have one thing to say: the peek! Remember when Lionel-as-Clark peeks into Clark's pants? The peek, ladies and gentlemen. That is all.

"Transference" for me, too. It kinda creeped me out (Lionel coming onto Martha in Clark's body... *Ick!*), but the acting was amazing and it was just over-all a fantastic ep. "Prey" is runner-up.

I agree 100%. I have yet to see an ep beat how I felt the first time I saw Run, Justice, Hidden, Obsession, or Red. I always look back to how I felt THEN, and not after 4 years or so of it being forgoten.
Can anyone really say, if Christopher Reeve just made his first appearance in this season, instead of S2, and Prey was back in S2, would anyone be voting for it?....No, they'd be saying how much Prey sucked cuz there was no actual Doomsday in it like we were ment to believe.

Wow, I'm actually going with the majority for once, it seems. I LOVED "Transference." It was so clever, and I LOVED seeing Tom Welling having to act like Lionel and John Glover attempt to portray Clark's naivete, innocence, and innate goodness. The reactions of the other characters were great, too. Awesome episode!
"Hourglass" was somewhat clever -- certainly not bad. Redux was blah and dumb -- it was like a repeat of "Reaper" but using a cute girl instead of a dorky guy, and kissing instead of just touching them. "Relic" had really neat flashbacks, so I liked that, and the way it hearkened to the Superman mythos and threw in some new unique elements into the SV history. I didn't care for "Exposed," I can't even remember what "Fallout" was about, and "Lara" was just okay. "Prey" disturbed me. :(
In other words, "Transference" wins -- by a mile!
