Well, here's how "Committed" ranked in total viewership on the CW for the week of Monday, October 13, 2008 - Sunday, October 19, 2008:
1. Smallville - 4.18 million
2. One Tree Hill - 3.47
3. Gossip Girl - 3.31
4. America's Next Top Model (Recap) - 3.21
5. Supernatural - 3.06
6. The Game - 1.81
7. Everybody Hates Chris - 1.79
8. 90210 (R) - 1.73
9. 90210 (R) - 1.65
10. America's Next Top Model (R) - 1.35
11. Priviliged (R) - 1.22
12. Valentine - 0.74
13. Easy Money - 0.71
14. In Harm's Way - 0.62
And here's how Smallville currently ranks in total average viewership for the season (not counting repeats and recaps):
1. Smallville (5 episodes) - 4.17
2. America's Next Top Model (7) - 3.95
3. One Tree Hill (6) - 3.38
4. Gossip Girl (6) - 3.37
5. 90210 (7) - 3.30
6. Supernatural (5) - 3.21
7. Priviliged (5) - 2.24
8. Everybody Hates Chris (3) - 1.85
t. The Game (3) - 1.85
I think that Smallville will probably have to take second this week, since ANTM had 4.44 million viewers last night. But, I think "Prey" will still do pretty well. It's coming off of a good episode, and the trailer was great. It also has the MM, so I think we'll stay above four million again.

I'm guessing 4.18 mil. again. I can't believe ANTM did so well?
I was watching Knight Rider:)
I read they stopped production on Valentine and Easy Money. I don't think it will affect CW, they've most likely already been paid for that Sunday block. Stylista did awful.

Well, Hello all. This is my fisrt message in the K-Site forum.
Just for you to know a little about myself I wrote it in blue color so if you don't want to read it and skip right to my asstimation, it will be easy for you.
My name is Liran, I'm 25 years old from Israel. I came to know SV in June 2005, when I suddenly watched a syndicated episode from season 2 and I really liked it. Since then I've been watching SV and on January 2006, after watching Commencement (4th season finale) I decided that SV is the best Sci-Fi show I've ever seen in my life (and for me, this episode is the best episode of the series).
Although I'm from Israel I'm still interested in the ratings SV receives in order to try and predict if the show will be renewed each and every year. From watching Season 8 I feel that SV truly deserves a Season 9 (But only if TW stays and the title of the show remains to be "Smallville").
As you can see, I chose my avatar to be the 3 stones which formed the crystal of knowledge (right in the moment of creation), and now that crystal takes place again in the plot of season 8 (and I think it's great).
To conclude I'll just say that I also don't like DO. :p
I think that this week also, SV will enjoy app. 4.15 mil viewers. However, it also means that this will be the first week this season that SV will be the CW's #1 scripted show and not overall, because ANTM had more...
Just a question, because I'm new here:
I understood that TPTB stands for: The Powers That Be.
What I haven't understand so far what PS3 stands for (The only thing that came up on my mind is Play Station 3  and I don't think that this is the answer) ? So what PS3 stands for ?
Thank you.

Hi Liran, welcome to KSite!:) I too, loved Commencement and Arrival! Glad to have you on the Ratings thread.
PS3 is what we call the 4 new Showrunners. (I think it caught on because of the Playstation),
but it stands for Brian Peterson, and the 3 S's. Todd Slavkin. Kelly Souders, Darren Swimmer.
That's an awesome Avatar.:)

Hi, SparkleforSmallville, Thank you. :)
It all makes sense now about PS3. Loved the idea behind it and probably wouldn't guess it myself.
Your avatar is also lovely. The FOS is one of the things I really like in SV, and hope to see it soon again in SV. :)

It will be interesting to see how well Smallville does since game 2 of the World Series was on at the same time. Alot of sports guys said that a Phillies/Rays World Series would be Fox's worst nightmare because they aren't 2 big name teams like the Cubs and Red Sox, so maybe Smalville did really good in the ratings...

I think it will definitely be over 4mil...but I don't think it will do better than committed...unless a lot of different people who like the comics tuned in to catch a glimpse of Doomsday.

MM wasn't in the promos, was he? I don't remember.
I think, coming off of last week's episodes, we may be slighter higher than last week. Or, at least, the same. Unless folks tuned in last week to see Clois. Lois was listed, though, as being in this episode pretty much everywhere... I think folks might be used to seeing Lois in every episode this season. A lot of people even logging onto K-site were confused as to why Lois wasn't in the episode. And those are fans who care enough to actually post here... non-message board fans have no clue what's going on.
And "ANTM" had 4.44 viewers? How did that happen

I agree. I think that Prey has a good chance of doing well. The viewers went up for Instinct and then went up again for Committed. If the trend continues Prey should do well, but I don't believe ANTM got 4.44 million. That's insane

Difficult to predict. We don't know how much steam Committed built up for Prey.Personally i liked Committed more because it was more light hearted. But i have to admit that Prey had a good plot and kept the viewer guessing about the true killer.I believe that it will stay over the 4mil mark

*sigh* They really don't have to tell us every week that it's dropped from a year ago. I'm pretty sure, most of the network shows have dropped this year.
It sounds like they are hinting, one of the Thurs. shows will be replaced, and they are doing better than 90210 and GG.
Anyway, is 2.9/5, better than last weeks 2.8/5? It looks to be  Is that a compound fraction?

It would appear to be better. How much, I have no idea. Also important to note is that the World Series was on last night, and even if the game didn't do a huge number, since it's with two teams that don't get a lot of national attention and it was just the first game, it should've still given Smallville more competition than it usually gets. Look out next week because if the World Series makes it to a game 7, it will air next Thursday. That will kill Smallville, along with all of the other programs on that day.

I'm pretty sure that if they removed a show for Robin, it would be Supernatural.
Should move Supernatural to another night, but whatever.
Smallville and Robin back to back would probably be a solid ratings pull.
It worked for Buffy and Angel.

We still don't know for sure what will happen after the 10th Episode. Will we see repeats or will there be a hiatus till Feb 09?
Sadly, after the hiatus - regardless if there will be repeats or just hiatus - SV loses quite a lot of viewers, probably because lack of promotion from the CW when it gets back wth an all new episode. Episode #11 should be a great episode and the CW MUST promote it well after it gets back from the hiatus or the ratings will fall below the 4 mil (like last season), and that would be a shame.

I think that it would be in the CW's best interest to show a preview for that 11th episode after the 10th episode airs, much like they did for "Justice" back in season 6.

One of the reasons that i believe Smallville loses it's audience after the Christmas break has to do with their decision to air an isolated episode in December. Many people forget to tune in for that and when they return to see the show in January they find out that they have lost part of the plot.Of course some of the December episodes were fillers but last year Gemini definitely wasn't.It restarted the Bizzaro plot.I hope that this time they don't air in isolated episodes. It really hampers the momentum of the show.
4.22 million!!! :D :D :D
Looks "Committed" made folks come back for MORE and then some!!!
I do hope that the lack of Lois in this episode doesn't affect "Identity's" numbers.

I'm really glad to see Smallville has increased again! I think it's due in part to the positive response to last week's episode, as well as the good trailer for "Prey." There could have been an error in calculation in the earlier numbers. Or Smallville may have been pre-empted by another program on some of the affiliates.

It's all good, the numbers aren't so bad, a Season Nine is still very possible! :D

That definitely is possible.
Although I do not have a Nielson TV or TiVo, Smallville in my area started two minutes early, and was frozen for a few seconds before it began. ...So I actually missed the beginning (just a few words) of Mary's talk at the Isis Foundation.
Either way, I still don't understand how suddenly fewer viewers watched the show. Either 4.22 million viewers watched it, or they didn't, but I don't understand how DVR/TiVo numbers could be added to the 4.22 million and equal 4.16... What am I missing here? How are the final numbers calculated?

The preliminary 4.22 is Live Plus Same Day numbers, which means Nielsen takes the Live viewership as well as DVR viewership up until about 3AM EST.
This isn't the first time SV has dropped in finals...

how is that possible? how can the final go down? is there something im not getting?
thanks SparkleforSmallville for posting the list though.
because the earlier numbers were just an estimation of the final rating. Sometimes they make an little mistake and the true ratings are higger, and sometimes are lower. Anyway,it used to be a good estimation.

Interesting, Alot of people are not watching live Network TV this Season:
"41 shows had DVR viewership of 1 million or more viewers.
53 shows increased their Live viewership by 10% or more over the Live+7 period."

What does Live+7 means?
SparkleforSmallville
10-28-2008, 06:36 PM
^^^Zeburial, it means, the rating/count for people who watched the show Live, and the +7 counts the people who recorded the show and watched it within 7 days.
those 2 are added together, hence Live + 7=how many millions watched.:)

Heroes has been confusing, but it does better in the DVR ratings.
I haven't given up on Heroes yet, but I'm close.

The repeat of "Prey" did 2.39 mil. in the overnights. here's what usually SV cynical Marc Berman said,
quote,Originally posted by William:
CBS - It is amazing how well "Survivor" has held up over the years.
The CW - I have always found it amazing that repeat episodes of "Smallville" nearly beat out "Gossip Girl", "90210", "One Tree Hill", I know not in the demo--but in total viewers.

"That said, I imagine the CW will do everything it can to get Smallville back next season."

Thanks SparklefoSmallville for the info. Do you by any chance know how SV did in comparison to the other CW TV shows (which mostly weren't repeats)?
Thanks again!
--- Sorry, I went back and actually read your previous post. Yay! Smallville's repeat did even better than new episodes of other shows on the network.
The reason I asked (besides enjoying the good numbers SV receives) is because I was talking to someone about the merging of the WB and UPN. I told her Smallville does really well for the network, but she thought Gossip Girl was doing better. To that I responded that the only real competition Smallville ever really has is America's Next Top Model -- I just wanted the numbers to prove it.

2.41 million viewers is very good for a repeat on the CW. :) I've said it before, but I think the CW needs to replace those Sunday night Jericho repeats with repeats of older Smallville episodes. At least those could get over one million viewers.
I'm glad Marc Berman actually had something very positive to say about Smallville.
