During the part where lois and clark are in the elevator and clark reacts to lois's comments:
lois: we do make a good team but don't let that cover get to that big head of yours
clark: *scoffs* don't worry. i didnt
lois: great
clark: great
..........................
pay attention to how he scoffs and tries to hide it
or is it just me seeing that?

I don't think he was being cocky, just self assured. We are accustomed to seeing Clark mope that it would be easy to mistake confidence for arrogance.

I didn't seem him as acting cocky in that scene. I think that's just Lois' way of talking to further distance herself from her "revelation". I think Clark reacted in much the same way I would picture Superman reacting in that situation - he knows who he is and what he can do. He had a certain sense of self-confidence (something he's been seriously lacking in the past while whining over Lana). He knows he can juggle tractors in the air and squeeze coal and turn it into diamonds. That's not being cocky or arrogant, that's just a statement of fact. In actuality, Clark still acts more modest than cocky given who he is.

I don't think he was being cocky. Instead, I felt like he was trying to save face.
For a moment he actually thought Lois had been telling the truth - and he may or (may not) have actually liked that; his romantic feelings about her are certainly ambiguous to say the least, but when she told him she took the sensor off of her finger, the tables changed. Now, he doesn't know what to believe, and he definitely didn't want her to see him look disappointed.

How could anyone see any cockiness with Clark in that elevator??

I think he was just trying to pretend being cocky in front of Lois. As he always tries to man up in front of her. It didn't come off as cocky though, because there was still a hint of the puppy dog look in his eyes.

You would be cocky too if you could get shot in the face and walk away unscathed.

I also thought it was a face-saving move.

Clark is supposed to act like that. He's not supposed to be timid. He's supposed to be mild mannered but with a certain edge when he deals with Lois.

agreed... he has a certain cocky teasing technique with Lois, and it's the only way she can be handled, because if he was too nice to her she wouldn't see him as her equal

I would say he was flattered and felt good about himself that she has true feelings for him then when Lois told him she took the sensor off her finger, his confidence went downhill again. Then he got hold of himself quickly came back to his regular face.
Typical Clois's scene...She gives him a bone then takes it back, poor poodle

lmao of COURSE he did..did you not see his expression?, he said it didnt get to his head but his eyes said the total opposite
when he thinks she realy DID lie, he's dissapointed. She then says that line and he's like "I didnt" but his facial expression read; "I did"
and it was like a cover up..
but yeah before that..the man was strutting it alpha male style.

Nah, I think he was a little cocky, but that isn't a bad thing. He thought he "had one" on Lois, and he was feeling smug. That is why he tracked her down and asked if she was avoiding him. In typical Clois fashion, he wanted to make fun of her, but when she said she took the sensor off (she didn't actually say she didn't have feelings for him, she avoided that, she just told him not to let anything get to his head - and having the sensor off, even though we all know she didn't, doesn't mean she was or was not telling the truth, just that he is back to not knowing) he had to stop being smug and think about what that meant. He was disappointed, and he was surprised that he was disappointed. Now he has to deal with that. He went from "ha, ha, Lois, I can taunt you with this" to "oh, snap, I didn't know I would be disappointed." She tossed him right out of his comfort zone, which she is good at doing.
He did let it get to his head, but that isn't a bad thing, because when he could no longer be cocky about it, he had to face the disappointment, which is key.
In other words, he was going to make fun of Lois for her feelings, in typical Clois style, but then he had to face it, indirectly. He is back to not knowing, but now he is aware of Lois as a love interest, and once he is aware of that, there is no going back for him. But, this happens slowly, as it should. That is why I don't get the whole "this is rushed" bit. From now on, I don't think that argument has any truth.

I think it's nice to see Clark acting a bit cocky to Lois for a change.

you honestly think he was going to make fun of Lois after how painful she found it telling him she loved him? She saved his life and it hurt her so much to do it, I doubt he was going to make fun of her for it.
Clark's not an *******.
IMO he was just excited that she loved him, it got to his big old head of his, he was proud of himself and gave her an out but didnt let her run with it because he actually wanted it to be true and liked the idea.

Oh, I didn't mean that he was an @ss, not make fun of in a bad way, I meant banter with her about it. I meant he wanted to re-engage in comfortable territory and tease her a little bit and then drop it. He was going to tease her for a bit and then drop a bone about beating the machine, until he realized that he wanted her to have been telling the truth, that she may not have been disappointed him.
He was, until that point, unaware, and being unaware doesn't make someone an @ss, it makes them human. He may have thought she was emotional because she was being tortured by a crazy person with quesionable taste in jewelry, or she was worried because she didn't want to shock him.
Remember, we know their endgame even if they do not (the characters). Every other time Lois has gotten emotional she has been mad about it, and he may have thought that was why she was avoiding him, he already thought the machine wasn't working because he questioned why it shocked him when Lois said she had cheated on him.

true i definitely agree with the earlier post that clark needs to have a cocky teasing flirting thing with lois so that they are equal and on par with each other;
but his facial expressions and his eyes totally said to me that he did let it go to his head that lois liked him

Maybe he just wanted to believe it. I could tell he just wished that it was true.

I didn't think Clark was being cocky at all what I got from that scene was. Clark could tell Lois was feeling out of place, because she had admitted how she felt. So Clark decided to let her think she was faking it to ease the moment.

I think he was just being self assured for once and just joking around. Lois is the most arrogant character on the show, no doubt.

I think he liked the idea that Lois loved him. He might not be ready to admit he has any feelings, but who doesn't like it when a hot girl likes them.

No I don't think he was cocky in this episode. I think he was being more self assured which is a lot better than watching him mope around all the time.

I'd give that honor to Kal. Red-k brings out a cockiness in Clark like no other.

Clark wasn't being cocky; Clark always laughs and amusingly smiles at Lois in Superman lore because he finds her so funny. He has that sort of edge when it comes to dealing with Lois. I thought it was awesome because it really reminded me that I wasn't watching any odd lovebird duo, I was watching Lois and Clark.
