Hahahahaha. My ass they were. I thought they were sixteen?
No way do I believe that Clark and Lana were 14 in season 1. Wow.
Are you sure it was so young? I'd buy for 16...

In the article that Clark looks at, it says Chloe (the bride) is 22 years old at the time of the engagement; it also says she will remain Chloe Sullivan and NOT become Chloe Olsen. Their wedding is set for Novemeber.

Just checking - is she supposed to be 22 or is she younger/older at this point? I think she was 15 in Season 1, so 15+8=23. She could be 22 going on 23 this season...

Thanks for reading the article, so she's not going to change her name.hmmmm... I bet should would if that last name were Kent:p

i think Clark, Chloe, Lana and Pete and probably Jimmy are all 22 going on 23 at this point, while Lois is 23 or 24. Lex was stated very early on as being 6 years older i believe, which would make him 28.

Clark says he's 18 in season 5 (hidden) so he was 14 in season 1. Now he's 21/22 as it's not very clear when his birthday is. I assume Chloe might be a few months older.

I rewatch the Pilot quite often (is one of my favorite episodes) and I still think that, for a 23/4 year old man, TW did a great job portraying young Clark. I think that that is the reason why they never specifically said Clark's age before season 5 (at least I don't remember Clark saying his true age until Hidden) because it would have been very hard to believe he was in his young teens when Smallville started.

you have to suspend disbelief in Hollywood teen portrayal..the only real authentic show that had actual 16 year olds playing 16 year olds off the top of my head was Degrassi Junior High (Yay Canada). all the rest they usually have 19-30 year olds playing mid-late teenagers, i think to try and appeal to the teen market and 20 something market at the same time. TW playing a 15 year old when he was 23 is a classic example. i remember Gabrielle Carteris was 29 on 90210 when on the show her character i think was 15.

Yes I'm certain.

Jonathan said Clark was 17 during season 4 in Recruit.

Because of the limitations on the hours underage actors can work, a show like SV, would be impossible to do with actors closer to their characters' ages.

I always thought the characters were 15 that first year, which was still weird because they were all driving....

that's interesting AG which would explain some of it..only thing then would be how did Degrassi survive where its whole cast were actual teenagers while the show was being filmed? are the regulations different in Canada than in the US i wonder? also, that would make sense with regard to TV shows but IMO not teen movies. i really think they try to make the characters look more mature (and sexier) to appeal to a broader audience.

This was unintentionally funny to me, but I agree. ;)

Plus "Chloe Olsen" just doesn't sound that good to me. :\ And Chloe Sullivan-Olsen is a bit awkward. So I'm glad she's keeping her name.

Things are changing a bit now, but in rural farm country, 14 and 15 year olds do get permits to drive; mostly because they've grown up around farm machinery, stuff that can be just as dangerous, if not more, than a car. Imagine those huge, hulking combines and a teenager at the wheel. Yikes! Seen it and survived it. Mostly I believe it depended on the distance to school and also proof of responsible driving.

In the article, it also said "The Daily Planet's own Jimmy Olson." Awww.

As for Chloe's birthday, I believe she wouldn't turn 23 until next year, shortly before Clark's birthday which is usually celebrated in the spring.

Yeah. Crazy parents, entrusting adolescents to handle tractors and threshers and combines. My Father grew up in rural Nebraska in the 30's. He and his renegade band of 5 siblings let their 5 year old sister drive the family car.! My aunt vaguely remembers this and laughs about it, because her feet didn't reach the pedals. 'Course, this could be one of many reasons why my Grandmother died of a heart attack at a young age...

I'm sorry I realized it looks like I was teasing you. I meant I don't believe in TPTB saying he's 14 in season 1. I'm sure you're right, that's just funny.
With Clark its questionable (they don't actually know how old he is. Plus he's Kryptonian) but there's no way Lana was that age.

no because in season 4 she was 18 hence her relationship with the couch of the football team not excatly illiegal.

A show like Degrassi has a variety of actors, so they can share the spotlight so to speak. No actor is the star for very long. Also, Degrassi doesn't need special effects which requires some extra time for scene set-up, etc. The shooting schedule for a TV series is a lot faster than a movie. A movie has the luxury of taking more time to film. I'm not sure all the actors in Degrassi were under 18.

I knew that rural areas had done that in the past, I wasn't sure if they still did. And I wasn't sure if anybody living in a rural area was permitted to drive "underage" or just the people who could verify it was needed on the family farm.

which makes me wonder why they could drive in season one since you cant legally drive untill your 16...

Plus Chloe's birthday is before Clark's.
She had hers in Spell(episode 8) in season 4 and Clark's is the second to last episode.
So Chloe and Lana are both a little older than Clark and Lois is two years older than him.
And Chloe is 22 most of this year, where as Clark is 21 until the last couple episodes.

actually she turned 15, they are all around about the same age, Lana turns 15 first, then Chloe then Clark.

Well, in the pilot episode, Pete mentions that they were all freshman. I always thought it was a bit ridiculous that they were all driving at such a young age, but I guess that the age laws are different in Kansas.

]maybe they're all in an alternate reality and when Clark Kent gets hit by Lex's car, he goes into a coma and the rest of the show - all 8 seasons - has happened all in his head and he's not really an alien, he's just a normal, now comatose, boy in a psychiatric hospital ward!

Hmm that sounds familiar, almost Labyrinth like...
