believe it or not, i got into in the middle of season 4. it was a REALLY bad place to start. i was sssoooo confused. so, of course, i had to catch up.....from the beginning. so i watched all the episodes up till the beginning of season 4. then, i was hooked. i knew that i was going to obsessed. i had seen a few episodes before, but only because there was nothing else on. then, i bought season 4 and watched it. and, now im just hooked. no friends told me about it or anything, i just discovered it on my own.

I started watching it from the begining. I remeber seeing commericals for it. I was a big fan of Lois & Clark and thought this was going to hella kool to watch. Also I caught a glimpse of Lana and I had to check out this girl. I first watched it in LA with my uncle and never missed a show since

Before the first episode aired I saw a news article describing the putline of the show and I thought, "Clark and Lex are friends?!?!?! That show is going to suck!" but I decided to watch it just to see what it was like, afterall it's still Superman, but I missed it! I never saw the original airing of the pilot episode, I thought, "No big deal it probably sucked anyway."
Then a few days before Halloween I was carving a pumpkin and I managed to catch Hothead, AND I ABSOLUTELY LOVED IT!!! I loved everything about it and once again my natural instincts we wrong.

I was flipping through the channels and spotted John Schneider. I thought it was a movie made for tv until I realized it was about Superman as a boy, and a weekly show. I was hooked. And yes I'm still watching eventhough Jonathan is gone(I cried through that epsiode and the next). I keep hoping they'll figure out a way to bring him back.

To be totally honest, I started watching because it had Tom Welling in it (caught him in an episode of Juding Amy and fell in love :p). But now as I've watched more, I realized that there was sooo much more to the show! I am really drawn to the characters, they are very good.
And then I became obsessed in less than a month! Bwaha! :D

Every year I try to avoid adding new shows to my tv-watching time, and even though I loved Lois and Clark, I managed to avoid Smallville. But when I saw the trailer for Crusade, with Lois, my interest was finally piqued. And Tom was so...well, amazing in that ep.... Then of course, I was so hooked it was ridiculous. So I caught up on ABC Family, too....And to think it was Season 4 that drew me in!

I came in right when Lois did. Boy, was that confusing.
But certainly rewarding. It's a great show, no matter which season you're presently watching.
Saw the full page advert in MAD Magazine and thought why not? Sooner or later it had to happen....

Saw the adverts and watched from the beginning. I'm SO glad I didn't start watching halfway through season 4 - even I found it confusing though I watched them all in order. Is it unhealthy to have a five year obsession? :p

I started watching it faithfully on ABC Family the day it started there, partially because I thought Tom was gorgeous, partially because my parents put it on thinking they'd introduce me to Superman and it was a teenage show I might enjoy, and partially our of my parent's and my own curiosity (my dad also thought the dark haired girl from the preview aka Lana was stunning.) I thought it was weird, but entertaining, and did I mention Tom was gorgeous? I kept watching, and soon, my entire family was addicted (now it's more my dad and me - it's our thing.) Sometime during last summer, we started watching it on WB, and now I get my 'daily dose of Tom' 6 days/7 episodes a week (five on ABC Family; one of WB Thursday; one on my local affiliate of WB on Sundays.)

Well I was a fan of Lois and Clark, but didn't really want to add yet another show to what I watched when it debuted. Having known a bit about Superman, I knew that Lois wouldn't be there and that Clark would be focused on a girl named Lana Lana, so I was like "meh" and that was that. I never gave much thought to the show. And then I bought my S2 DVDs of LnC and that made me obsessed all over again with Lois and Clark, so I thought I would check Smallville out, Im glad I did! I started watching it on ABC Family, and then I bought S4, watched that, loved it, and then went out and bought seasons 1,2 and 3 and have just finished them all in a few weeks. So yeah, it was a bit crazy and most of the eps just blur together in my mind, having watched them all in a marathon. And now I have a crazy obsession with the show, so there you have it! Guess you could say that i was the fact that Lois is on the show with Clark that got me watching finally. :)
It's Supes --and well the first pic I saw was of a wet Tom Welling...what more does a girl need?
I was hooked from the pilot on. :D

I'm new to the site and fairly new to the Superman mythology. Originally turned it on ABC family for my young sons, then quickly developed a huge crush on Mr. Welling. Since then we've purchased all season DVDs and now I'm addicted to the story as well as Tom.

I am a Smallville addict, I cant get enough of it.
i watched the first episode, cos my cousin really wanted to watch it and he couldnt so i reported back to him.....at first i didnt like it THAT much (except for lana, and chloe was a bit of alright) but i thought it was an after-school X-files rip-off.
He then watched the rest of the episodes, told me it was really good......and i watched it on and off through till midway season 2....then i was more interested in it so i watched it proper from then on. ( i caught up on the ones i missed thru the many re-runs)
Still think X-Files is a template for this show....but its great in its own right too.

The very first episode I watched was the first episode in Season 5...I know, I'm way behind. It was on a Thursday night and they had advertised on TV the Smallville movie (which apparently was code name for season 5 1st episode). I absolutely loved it and thought Clark was so handsome, but then I started watching the show for Lex cause he's HOT.

When it first premiered I distinctly remember my mom and my brother watching it and I'd be in the kitchen reading, thinking I'd never watch something so violent (I was 8 or 9 at the time). But last summer, I started watching 4th season reruns on Wednesday and Thursdays, then my brother decided to rent seasons 1-3 DVDs. Let's just say I haven't missed an episode since! (except for Ageless, but I'm gonna make sure I watch it when it comes on ABC Family again)

I started watching right when it first showed on ABC Family because my mom had watched the big marathon of it the day before and talked me into watching it with her. I was all like, "Eh, I guess I'll try it out." Me and my mom always watch scif/fantasy type shows together and we'd already went through Buffy on FX, Angel on TNT, and Charmed on TNT so was ready to try something new. We watched the Pilot of SV and I was like, "Wow, that bald guy is hot." And my mom was all excited because she was hoping it would be like Buffy. And I was just happy to watch it because I thought Lex was hot and I was intrigued by the setup of Clark and Lex's relationship. My mom though stopped watching SV during the latter part of S3. I can't help feeling bitter though that she got me into watching the blasted show but has left me to suffer alone.:p

I was a Superman fan ever since I was a small kid sitting front of the TV watching Lois & Clark and the Adventures of Superman. When I saw commericals for Smallville on TV, I thought it was just a place where weird things happen. I didn't bother to watch it until one of my friends went all "Oh. Smallville is so awesome! Lots of weird things sure happen there! Blah blah." I decided to watch the show for couples of minutes, and I was mildly interested. But I didn't GET the fact that the TV show actually revolved around Superman's early years.
That was until I saw the Superman logo on the Season One DVDs in Target and I fainted right there. From there, I was hooked.

I read in the TV Guide about a year before the Pilot episode that the WB wsa plannig on doing a television series based on the teenage years of Clark Kent. I thought to myself, "What a stupid freaking idea!" I had no interest in Superman or anything like that then.
Then one night me and my girlfreind were in my apartment watching TV. I was watching channel 2 and started flipping up through the channels really fast. Then I seen someone that I hadn't seen on television in a long time. I stopped flipping through the channels and started to go back to see if it was really the person the I thought it was. Then I finally get back to the channel that the person was on......AND BAM! IT WAS HIM! BO DUKE WAS BACK ON TELEVISION! I am a HUGE Dukes of Hazzard fan growing up. I lve that show. So I started to watch it, thinking it may be a Dukes of Hazzard reunion show that I hadn't heard about.
But then after I watched it for a bit I realized it was that show that I had read about a year prior.
Then I opened up the TV Guide to look it up, and I realized that it was the series premier. It was Pilot. And it wasn't that far into it either.
So I can thank John Schneider and the Dukes of Hazzard for getting me into watching Smallville. I have been hooked ever since the first episode, and I am proud to say that you can count the number of episodes that I have missed on one hand. I have been a devoted viewer, and it is my favorite show of all time!

i really really like lana, i mean she is so hott, i turned it on when my cousin was watching it, and it was like an instant connection, i mean she needs to move on to a diffferent show, becuase she really sucks, she needs to leave, or make room for chloe, and then chloe will need to leave in order for lois, thats what i think

Good topic!
I have been watching on TV since the Pilot. There are some people that got started with the DVD's or came into the show in later seasons on TV. But I have been watching since day one. What originally made me want to tune in for the Pilot was the idea that Clark Kent and Lex Luthor would be friends before the fallout later on. I thought this was a very interesting take on the story and would make the rivalry between Superman/LexLuthor much more personal because ex best friends make the best enemies.
The WB also ran some really cool promos for the Pilot as well. My favorite Clark scene of all time was actually only run in promos for the Pilot, and cut from the final edition of the Pilot. It is only a three second scene too, and would have made the Pilot that much better.
In the final version of the Pilot that aired on TV, you see Clark take off after he misses the bus, and then it cuts to the trail running through the corn and past the bus. In the promos that ran, you see Clark speed up into the screen for a close up before taking off through the corn. I love the scene so much because of how well it shows that Clark can do whatever the hell he wants. Plus it is really effective because of the speed up into the frame with the close up of TW. Just an awesome scene. I wish they didn't cut it.

Well Ryan, they kept it for the DVD, I think, plus they used that in the credits for S1...
Let's see, when did Chris Reeve die? I went out and bought all the Superman movies, because I hadn't seen them in years. When I saw the welcome to Smallville sign in Superman 1, I remember hearing of a show by that name. I had caught it for only a few seconds twice before....
Once was Magnetic, and I saw Lana and Lex fighting before she drives off with Seth, and I thought "why is that guy bald? he looks ridiculous!"
Then I saw Clark speed out of nowhere and shoot fire from his eyes...I thought the show was about witches or something! I had no idea it was Superman.
When I had seen the old movies, I checked the listings and saw that Smallville was on ABC Family. I tuned in to Metamorphosis and I was hooked.
Just the idea of Clark and Lex as friends, and the whole idealic setting, and the family elements and the 'girl next door idea' - in my opinion Lana looked like she was 7 years old until Season 3 - it was all just so intriguing. I ran out and bought Seasons 1 and 2, then bought Season 3 the day it came out - which was actually the day I watched the last S2 episode, which was great. I watched that season, then my friend with a TIVO caught me up on Season 4 over the winter break, and Scare was the first up-to-date episode I ever watched on the air!

Chris,
The scene is not on the DVD's. There are actually two different versions of the scene. There is the one that is used in the Pilot promos and then the one that is shown at the end of the S1 credits. But it never made the final cut of the Pilot so that means that it didn't make it on the DVD.. :D

I started in early-mid 4th season completely by accident. I had heard of the show and would have watched it if I could, but I didn't get the WB. Late one Friday night I turned on the tv and there it was. Fox was showing new episodes for some reason. I believe my first episode was Facade then missed a couple episodes and picked up with Transference. Hooked ever since. Went out and bought all 4 seasons on DVD and watched them very quickly. Only missed one episode. Season 5 premier Arrival. Sorta a bad one to miss huh?

Well, I was hoping for something that treated the show as a drama first, with a certain level of dignity that I feel L&C totally lacked. I wanted something that wasnt silly-campy. Smallville is far and away the best "superhero" tv show ever done.

Hal,
While I do agree with you about the development of Clark, it is also hard to hold it against the show too much, because the show never claimed to be about Superman. Since Clark is not Superman yet, all the things they do to the character can be labeled as "development". But like I said, I agree with you on Clark's development.
It is funny because he started out closer to what he should be like to become Superman in season one, and as the show progressed, his character development got worse.. LOL It should have been the other way around.

I've always been a closet Superman fan (I still have a fascination with capes) and when I saw an advert for Smallville on TV I felt compelled to watch it.
Since then I've only missed a couple of episodes (caught up on DVD) due to bad program timing in the UK.

For me, "Smallville" began my descent into TV Hell. :D I started watching "Smallville" because my son watched it and wanted me to. I started somewhere in the middle of season 2. The PROBLEM was, after "Smallville" came "Angel". I found "Angel" fascinating and wanted to watch that also. HOWEVER, feeling I needed to get some sens of the history of the character, I felt I needed to watch "Buffy, the Vampire Slayer" first. So, my "Buffy" and "Angel" marathons began. I went through seven seasons of "Buffy" and four seasons of "Angel", just to catch up. All this while watching season one and two of "Smallville". I've been watching "Smallville" ever since. I even got into LnC, and have watched two seasons of that.

I am in the Army and stationed in Germany and a few years ago I had staff duty. That's when I have to do telephone watch and handle emergencies for 24 hours. My assistant brought in the first 3 seasons of Smallville for a marathon. I was a little sceptical at first since I ususally don't like "teen" tv shows. But I definitely liked the science fiction/comic aspect of this show. Now I am hooked and waiting for Season 5 to come out on DVD in September since I am still in Germany. *
*when the Army asked me if I wanted to go back to the States I actually considered seeing original episodes of Smallville as one of the reasons for saying yes.

Funny story:
I've been a superman fan since "Lois and Clark"
But i didn't even know about the show until ABC family started airing it but even then I had NO IDEA what it was about. So I was watching one episode (starting halfway through) trying to pick up on who was who and just thinking 'What a cop-out!'
'wow...the hero's name is Clark and he lives on a farm...and there's a bald rich dude... this is exactly like superman!'
Finally after watching it for 10 minutes someone said 'Clark Kent.' and I was just like 'OOOOHHH....'
Yeah, my stupidity astounds me sometimes

I remember hearing about the show when it first came out and it did not occur to me that this is Superman they were talking about.
This may sound stupid but i thought it was just some fairy tale show about small people with magical gifts. I was 13 when the show first started so stuff like that I thought was stupid and more for kids. Then a couple of years ago (when smallville was on season 3) my Dad got season 1 on DVD and had me and my sister watch the Pilot, and then Metamorphosis. I was instantly attached and now all I think about is........ SMALLVILLE!!!!!!!!!!

At first, I didn't wanna watch it. I saw the name and assumed it was some idiotic teenage angst show like 7th heaven or Dawson's Creek. Then, in the middle of season 3 I decided to actually try watching it. I saw Clark use heat vision and it clicked that the show was about Superman before he was actually Superman. I've been hooked ever since. I'm a fanatic.

I immediately went out and bought the 4th season and then the 3rd!
What can I say I got totally hooked, and I think I got so obsessed with it because at the time I was going through a slight depression, hence I had just totaled my first car and just had a lot going on in life!
I really thank Smallville for bringing me out of it!
I really love show now and have just recently started writing Smallville fan fiction!

I started watching it after catching a rerun of 'Shattered' on the Family Channel last year. I had seen advertisements on that channel but dismissed it as just another show about Superman. I've never been a real superheroes fan.
But I found Michael Rosenbaum's performance so riveting and this idea of he and Clark actually starting out as friends very intriguing. To be honest, the only reason I watch the show is for Lex's storyline (and to a lesser degree, Lionel's). Since most people live basically good lives and manage to keep their behavior within the confines of the law, the development from mostly good kid with powers to superhero isn't much of a stretch. Not to mention largely irrelevant. However, the development from mostly good kid to supervillian, that is a much more relevant and interesting story.
Afterall, I don't expect to see some guy in tights flying around fighting crime any time soon, but history is replete with examples of mere humans that have inflicted incredible pain and misery on others on a wide scale. I've always been facinated with what could drive someone to that fate. Understanding that is definitely of more importance in the real world.

I started watching not long after the show started.
I happened to be flipping around looking for something to watch and getting no where fast.. I got up and went to get a Dr.Pepper from the fridge and when I came back into the living room.. there was my wooobie.. err.. Lex.. and he looked so sad.. it seemed like they cared for the other guy with the long wavy locks of hair and there was lex.. standing there by himself .. no family .. all alone.
I never really got into the superman things before.. I really don't get into any superhero things, that is not before now. But if Lex hadn't looked like he needed a friend at that moment when I saw him.. I would never have started watching the show.

I started watching Smallville during my stay in my cousins house. He really loves this show and we even had arguments about it coz he doesn't want to change the channel. Of course I didn't win, so i ended up watching it and that's the start of it. :D

Well, i just started watching reruns of season 4 last summer. Then i started catching previous reruns on ABC Family. So, i haven't watched it for more then about 7-8 months. During the summer, they reran eppys in the wrong order, so i started writing little notes on what happened in a notebook, and if Spell came on one week and then Scare came on, i would know what happened in both when Jinx, and Unsafe came on. Now the book has all the eppys written down in order including season 5, and any major events that happen in EVERY episode i write them down. (I'm a Clana fan, so if Clark kisses Lana i'll write it down before i write about Lex being shot. LOL

It's kinda wierd actually, I started watching kind of by accedent. I have always been a huge Superman Fan ever since I was a little kid.
5 years ago I was in my room and was flipping through the channels and herd someone say clark something something and I was like hey cool that guys name is clark then as i watched I realized that this was a superman related show so I watched it, it was in fact the pilot. I was so excited I had no idea that they were doing a show on clarks beginings.
I was very thrilled and have watched it ever since.

I started watching the show from day one. I tuned in to the series premiere mainly because I liked the commercials for it; they showed SV to be really dark, and I was intrigued. Oh, and my interest had absolutely nothing to do with the commercial showing a shirtless, muscled Clark Kent tied up on a scarecrow post in the middle of a corn field. ;)
BTW, Samara, I like your avatar. Ah, to be Mrs. Clark Kent.....sigh.

I started watching cos I was bored and figured I'd watch it cos it was on after friends. Then I heard SOMEBODY SAAAAAAAAAVE MEEEEEEEE!!! and I was hooked. I kept watching it to hear the beginning theme and then I really really got into and I've been hooked ever since. That was only about a year ago.

JDWoolfe, I was so afraid that SV would turn into one of those idiotic shows, but the writers managed to keep the level of teen angst to a minimum and avoid the typical stereotypes of teens--you know, mouthy, hates their parents, sex freaks, and drunks. That a HUGE reason why the show continued to appeal to me. I like the fact that teenage Clark Kent actually respected his parents and valued their wisdom and advice.

Well i started watching in 2002 when it was released in England. I just remeber the programme having something different to all the others at the time. Also it was on, on sundays and nothing else was on tv. I was hooked from the getgo. Ive since been a keen fan and have kept up to date.
It explores all of his abilities (well most) in a cool new way and its so easy to put yourself in his postion and wanna be someone with such a cool unique secret.
Love it, just wish everyone could have appreciated it as much as me. Seems everyone has just caught up with the series, through friends or just blasting through them in a couple of weeks. Not complaining tho, more sv fans the better.

I watched a few episodes from Season 2 (Witness) and 3 (Exile) off an on when they originally aired, but the first Smallville Marathon on ABC Family got me hooked. I spent hours on Sunday afternoon watching most of Season 1.
After that, I picked up Season's 1 - 3 on DVD, and devoured them instantly. This stuff is like crack! And being the good friend that I am, I had to push the stuff on my best friend so we could enjoy it together. And yes, he's now hooked too.

I watched it 'cause it was to do with superman. But when i saw an episode, i hated it so much! :p But then they were advertising Thirst when it first aired and im like 'oo vampires! :D' so i watched that and i still hated it, but then i watched another episode and there was a scene where clark was talking to John and Martha about something and i stood up. pointed at the screen and practically yelled ' Oh my god! It's Lana Lang!' You know from superman III :D And that's how i started watching :D

I remember seeing trailers for it way back in the fall of '01 and I was like, "So there's corn and a bald guy. Looks real exciting." Needless to say I didn't watch. Then a month or so later I read something about all the new shows that season and how 'Smallville' was the only one that had taken off. The theory in the article was that in the aftermath of 9/11 people were drawn to the concept of Superman. I hadn't realized the show was about Superman. (You'd think the title would have clued me in, but, what can I say, I'm slow.) I love superheros and mythology, so I watched. The first episode I saw was 'Cold.' I was hooked when I saw how hot Clark Kent was/is.
I started watching this show in September. I have TIVO and it recorded a couple episodes based on my movie/show watching preferences. I got hooked right away! It sucked for me though because I had to watch Smallville in a weird fashion. I think I started watching somewhere in Season 2 so I missed Season 1. I also missed Season 3 completely but saw most of Season 4. I have now watched Season 1, 2, 3, and 4 completely. I am also current with Season 5.
It's an entertaining show, and I like Superman (in fact, I like all superheros) so it didn't take much for me to get hooked! I do have some things that I don't like about the show, but they aren't bad enough to keep me from watching it.

Hated to even think about the idea of Superman in High School (especially because I was a huge Superman fan since I was very widdle ;))....so, needless to say I just wouldnt watch it.
And then, one day my husband nagged me and pushed me in front of the TV and forced me to watch it.
It was the season finale for S3 and quite like Chloe, I was blown away. I had no clue what was going on but it was interesting and it seemed so well written and acted.
And then my problems started....
I caught a rerun of Rush on ABC Family and I was drawn to the whole Chlark like a moth to the light.
So I have to say the Chlark sexual chemistry made me start watching the show...and my lovely husband who by now is so sick of me being addicted to it. (With all the fanfic writing and all)

It's a good sign that you wanted to watch the other seasons considering you started at Season 4, which most would agree is the weakest season, myself included.
EDIT: I didn't start watching until I got to the UK when it was already on the Season 5 break (after Ep15 - Cyborg) in the US. I didn't bother back in Australia because when I saw the teaser I thought "Pft, another Superman series" recalling my disinterest in Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman. Luckily I gave it a chance, it's my favourite TV show at the moment and I watch a LOT! :)

Ever since the first episode came on I haven't missed one. The reason I started watching this show is because it's about Superman and who doesn't love Superman?

I watch the show because I am interested in how the Superman story had evolved from the comic book original to a reflection of the era in which the TV shows were created. Lois and Clark showed Superman and Lois Lane as mature urban adults able to give each other a grown-up love; Smallville deconstructs the story and makes the characters grow up all over again with all the teenage angst in a 21st century context.
As for the relationship between Lana and Clark, I continue to be disappointed by all the coitus interruptus. "Lois and Clark" addressed this issue and -- surprise -- Lois lived through the sex. However, after she and Clark got married, they found that they could not have children because they were of two different species.
If I were Tom or Kristen, I'd be pretty disgusted by this continual soap opera ******** in which they can "never" be lovers. For one thing, it keeps the Lana character from evolving more fully into her womanhood. And Clark's "nobility" in leaving Lana rather than possibly hurting (or killing) her if they had sex just seems like more teenage angst. Catch up, Gough & Co.; this stuff is not credible anymore.
Every guy out there is probably thinking the same thing: if someone who looked like Lana was hot for me, I'd figure out a way to make the sex work real well. A good time would be had by all.
Almost every other situation on the show is allowed to develop fairly naturally; this will-they-or-won't-they nonsense is more contrived than the 1950s "romance" baloney with Geotge Reeves and Noel Neill. So I think that Lana and Clark will find their way back to the bedroom.
I also notice that no other version of the story has referred to Clark as an "alien." To me, this reflects a 21st century wised-up sensibility that there is life on many other planets, and that some civilizations are probably more advanced than ours. Still, it seems to be a rather cold-blooded way to describe such a nice, well-meaning guy.
And I do want to say good things aboutr Mike Rosenbaum's portrayal of Lex Luthor. Mike plays Lex as a complex, even sympathetic character. He seems to be the perennial outsider who evolves into the villain. In each of the other versions of the Superman story he was a one-dimensional bad guy whose only function was to be Superman's nemesis.
Mike does a great job, but I'm kind of sorry that Gene Hackman is too old for the part. Hackman combined the evil of the character with a kind of comic lunacy that was unique to his portrayal of Lex.
I mostly like what Gough & Co. have done with the story, but they need to get on with it. Let Lana, Clark, et al grow up and move the story forward.

Then I saw an episode toward the end of Season 3... I found out what day it came on and started watching til the end. I had no clue what was going on so I started watching the family channel reruns... And looking for a way to rent the show... couldn't find it for rent (don't know why) so I bought season 1 and the rest is history!!!

I'm a fan of the Superman story from childhood in New York City, when I watched Superman reruns on an independent staton (WPIX-TV, channel 11) each weekday afternoon. I also read some of the comic books and watched Lois & Clark.
What keeps me watching is something I read in the book "The Death and Life of Superman." The author said that the Superman story is updated and reinterpreted according to the general cultural norms at the time.
The more I thought about it, the more I agreed. So I watch each successive version of the story to see what the show's producers have done with (to?) lt.
I keep watching because I like the "backstory" or prequel approach that Gough & Co. have taken. It's a big departure from previous versions of the story and seems fairly original.

I watched roughly the first season and part of the second (give or take a few episodes due to a Bio 11 Lab at the same time) because I'd been a HUGE Lois and Clark fan in my youth... but, then college life led to club meetings and partying, so I wrote it off (I wasn't really that impressed by it, so I felt it wasn't much of a loss).
THEN, I saw an episode of season 4 with Lois and I found myself drawn back in, only this time for good. I really like Clark and Lois's dynamic and I think it's what I found missing from the first seasons (because I was going into it a firm Lois and Clark fan but not much of a fan of Superman in the general sense... as in, I didn't really care for the Donner films much, the cartoon was ok, and I didn't read the comic, or in other words, it's the exact opposite of my Batman obsession ;)).
So, I guess, in short, Lois is what really got me hooked and really care enough to catch up on the seasons I missed and even [gasps] join a message board! :p Now I'm a big fan (even if the writing often leaves much to be desired!).

What about the Lois-Clark dynamic attracted you -- that she calls him "Smallville" and puts down his seeming small-town naivete?
I don't think that Gough/Miller have found a specific niche for Lois yet. She can't be Clark's love interest -- not while Lana is still around. And they don't become working colleagues until later in their lives.
Of course, us guys like her for reasons that are probably (too) obvious.

I’ll grant you that Lois herself doesn’t quite fit into the framing of the show and is thus forced to deviate heavily from the expected norm of the character, but I like her addition to the cast nonetheless, especially in (as previously stated) her dynamics with Clark. That being said, my reasoning for the latter is twofold, and is as follows:
1. The absoluteness of their love. Being disgustingly romantic, I define love as a soul mate, forever type deal, or, if you prefer, that we can only have one true love of our lives. This does not mean we cannot love more than one person in our lives, just that the nature of all these other loves differs from the infinite perfection/rightness of true love. You cannot fall out of true love or move beyond it, as it permeates the very essence of your being. Thus, I could never really get behind the whole Clana thing knowing that, in the end, it wasn’t going to last. It was a first love or, as I see it, overblown puppy love, and had a finite quality that left a bitter taste in my mouth, especially when the creators seem to want to push it as if it was true love. If that was the case, then Clark should never end up with Lois in the end (and yet we all know he does) nor break up with Lana permanently (because they would be “meant to be” as it were). So, the dynamics to that pairing left me quite uninterested, and unfortunately it’s that very pairing that SHOULD be the focus of Clark’s time in Smallville (so, for the show, it rightly was… I just couldn’t stomach how it was presented or how much they focused on it).
However, bringing in Lois meant they had brought in the woman Clark would eventually find true love with and so their relationship actually captured my fancy. It’s far more interesting to watch the two bicker/tease each other now and know that, in the future, it will be something deeper and far more beautiful/meaningful. Lois and Clark (tv show or otherwise) have always been, much like most of Superman (who is the quintessential hero/good guy), that perfect demonstration of true love. So, the evolution of their relationship (no matter how thin it may seem currently) has more depth and meaning to it for both of the characters and the mythos as a whole, and so it means more to me as a viewer. I want to see it progress or see hints of it.
2. I’ve always liked the teasing dynamic of the two. THLois told Clark, upon his introduction at the DP, “Don’t fall for me, farmboy, I don’t have time for it!” (or something to that effect). So, I find SV’s Lois bringing this familiar (and beloved) dynamic back and adding life to the show. Moreover, she doesn’t take Clark’s $h!* and forces him to stop moping every now and again. In short, she makes Clark a more likable, sarcastic character than he often tends to be.
I hope this answers your questions. :) And to your inquiry, your writing is fine (no idea if you were being sarcastic or actually wanting to know, so I shall go with the latter to be safe! :p).
*It should be noted this is all my opinion/perception of the dynamics between EDLois and Clark and thus why that makes me like the show. It could all be based on faulty premises if a Chlois reveal occurs, but as it stands, this is why I got into SV (Sorry, too much Chlois debating and I don’t want a Chloiser to think I mean any of the above as fact about EDLois… it’s just what I see and thus why I watch! :D)

So far, it seems that Gough/Millar have moved away from the traditional Superman story line often enough to keep us guessing. Unless you have "insider" knowledge about story developments in the coming season. it doesn't seem like Lana and Clark have much of a future.
They killed Lana once, but we knew that this could not be allowed to remain a "permanent" plot development. And I don't see anything for Lana -- except more pain -- in any "relationship" she and Lex get into. I hope that they permit Lana to be less of a victim in the season ahead. The least they could do is let Lana get on top once in a whle. Lex would probably like that, too.
I agree with you that there is a sharper and more interesting dynamic between Lois and Clark than with Lana and Clark. It's sharper, more of a contest among equals, and more entertaining. But I don't have a clear idea about what happens next with Lois, Lana and Clark. I hope that if the decision is to leave Lana and Clark apart, that they let her move on and do something else with the character.
Since Lana dies in the original story, maybe they will do that in season 6, which would open up more of a focus on Lois and Clark.
They have already killed her once, so it won't be a big shock if/when it happens again.
A prediction: Clark will find out that he is not going to "hurt" any human female that he has sex with. Keeping him away from Lana (and every other girl) for that reason was one of the dumbest, cheesiest plot devices I have ever seen on a TV show.

I only started watching it a year ago. I was bored, I needed something to watch, so I asked for Smallville Season 1 for my Birthday in December. I finished Season 1 in like, a month, and even though I wasn't sure for the first few episodes, and the bug one made me think, umm, why did I get this? after a few more episodes I absolutely loved it. Especially Lex, Lionel, Lexana, Chloe & a bunch of other things. So then I bought s2, 3, 4 & 5 and now I'm waiting for 5 to be delivered

First got into Batman after watching Batman Begins (saw the other movies but wasn't that impressed) and then watched The Batman and The Animated Series from the 90s. When Superman was in cross over in some episodes and appeared in JL/JLU, I started to like him. Watched Superman Returns and then Smallville. Sadly haven't seen any of the original Chris Reeve movies yet but I'd like to.
I watched Lois and Clark, I thought smallville would be a similar show so I started watching from the beginning.

I'm not sure if I should put "other" or "I just watched the first episode and got into it." I just watched an episode and got into it, but it wasn't the first. It was "Obsession" in season 3. After I saw it, I watched the other two seasons and the first half of season 3 in about 3 weeks to catch up.

Superman has always been second to Batman for me, but I love the purity and uncompromising attitude of Superman.
Superman's values are above anything.
Superman is 100% the means must justify the ends.
So I started to watch Smallville and, while it started off well enough, this version/interpretation of Superman has lost me.
I watch now out of pure curiosity to see where it is going and how it will end.

I always liked Superman but I didn’t get into Smallville until Season 3. I borrowed a friend’s Season 1 DVDs and found it to be interesting. Most of all, as the budding romance of Chloe and Clark flared up, I realized, I liked Chloe more as a romantic interest for Clark. She offered much more to the show, and Clark, than Lana did.
In season 2, her little secret she revealed to Clark as he’s lying sick on the couch, summed up my feelings about Chloe perfectly. Even before watching the show, I knew about the Lana character already. My friends who talked about Smallville talked about how hot KK, the actress, was. I came in expecting Lana, the high school cheerleader that everyone knows even if she doesn’t know you, and star of the show, to be more interesting, but it was Chloe that caught my eye instead. She was the one that I didn’t know about at the beginning, but by the end of Season 3, I don’t see how Smallville would be without her.

What got me into Smallville....mmm......
Well it wasn't the superman films, nor the comics and neither the lois and clark adventures. In fact, i'm not fan of superman at all, i've not seen any of the films accept the latest one. Now bet your wondering...not a fan of superman, why such a big fan of smallville. And to be honest i can't find a good enoigh answer myself.
I just think the storyline is gripping and the fact that the show doesn't go far into superman is what makes it great. Yeh, it's all about superman when he was younger, but the whole outline of the show is what got me BEFORE SUPERMAN THERE WAS CLARK KENT, FARM BOY , ..and thats about it really.
There was a huge hype about smallville here in the UK, and every tv guide you picked up or every magazine, i can gaurentee there was something about SV in it. And reading about it everywhere helped. So i guess i can thank advertising, for getting me into the show, lol.
Shamefully I thought it was a load of crap when I heard about it but my dad wouldn't let me leave the room without watching them..... thank the lord he did cause I have all of them on DVD and saving for season 6

I first heard of the series in 2002, during the summer break before Season 2 started. I was opposed at first, but caught the last part of "Nicodemus" on reruns, and thought it was interesting enough to watch the next week. After a few episodes, I got hooked, and have been following the series ever since. I now own all 6 DVD seasons, all 4 companion books, and the visual guide Craig wrote.

I started watching during the ABC Family Smallville Marathon. My mom was flipping through channels and she happened to stop on the cahnnel that Smallville was on and she was like "Oh lets watch this". So I guess I should thank my mom for getting me hooked.:D
My first episode was Convenant, I was Lucky that I saw the re-run and the next week it was already Crusade. By the moment that Lionel said "Do it" I was like... O.O
and then it ended so awesome.. that I get hooked.
I always liked the JL cartoons, but never was a trully fan of Superman. and back then I didn't have an idea of how Smallville was like... so I loved Season Four (even if is the worst) bc it was like those american movies y'know with the cheerleaders, footballers, high school, but, with superpowers... I was like fourteen, what can I say...
But now, I am all about Superman. Love Movies JL, comics, everything that has an S in the chest is great for me. LOL.
So smallville is and always going to be my favorite show of all time.

I disliked Smallville when it first started airing. I quite literally couldn't stand it. I was all like: "What is the point of this show? Having Superman's teenage years in a modern day setting? How ridiculous is that? Way to crap all over Superman"
I caught bits and bobs of episodes throughout season 1 and 2 and I turned my nose up at it each and every time.
Then all it took was one episode in Season 3, I can't remember which one it was, but I soon found myself hooked.
I feel bad for once doubting the show, but hey, at least I came to my senses.

lot of people talk about what got them into Superman. But I think that's kind of different from what got people into Smallville.
I first started to fall in love with Superman stories with "Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman". I mean Dean Cain is just awesome. I love the light corny comedy of it all, it was just fun and enjoyable.
It did get me to rewatch the superman movies (which i was too young to be impressed by) and love most superman stories. But that doesn't make me love every superman related things out there.
So as for why I started watching Smallville, I have to say, Lana (Kristin Kreuk), Papa and Mama Kents.
but of course now the things i loved most about smallville are pretty much all gone.

I watched "The Adventures of Superman" after school in the early 60's, and read my first Superman Comic at the local barber shop when my dad would go in for a haircut or to shoot the breeze. They had a huge box of comics with the top title area cut off*, I got into Superman and I kept buying comics up till the mid 90's when I got married and had a child.
When I saw the first rumor of a series called Smallville, I had to keep track of it and the rest is history.
* The comic & magazine distributors used to only take the top title from the cover to give credit to retailers for unsold copies, then they were to be destroyed, but most weren't and given away.

I love Superman. My all-time favorite Clark is probably George Reeves, but that's another thread ;-)
Like STFanatic, I got into Superman by watching afterschool and Saturday morning TV -- the Reeves series as well as cartoons. My brother's best friend was hugely into comics, which my brother traded all the time, so I got to read quite a few second- or third-hand.
Since then, I've kept up with the films and TV adaptations. SV sounded really good, and the pilot did not disappoint. I remember my one-word review of the very first episode: "Wow."

I work with youth and always try to watch shows that might interest them, and of course Superman as a teenager was an interesting premise.
I saw episodes here and there, on and off, when I could catch a few. I loved the interaction between Clark and his parents.
I thought I had seen most of season one, but knew I had missed a few eppys, so when Target had them on sale once for $15, I bought season one. I had it for months before opening it. I ended up sick with a really bad cold and wanted to watch something while lying in bed. I popped in those DVDs and realized I had never seen half the eppys. Watching them in order from the beginning....well I was hooked....my husband bought me the rest of the seasons (2-3) for Christmas and we have been watching every episode since.....yeah, he's just as hooked as I am now....(he's Electronics Guy on ksite :))

I watched 'Commencement' when it aired live in May 2005, and I really liked the episode, but that's not what got me into it.
A year later, my friend that lives in another state (in Arizona) said that he and his family borrow the DVDs from his friend and watch them on Sunday nights. I was like, 'oh cool,' and rented the first season, and then I rented the rest of the seasons on DVD and now I own them. haha I didn't actually start watching the show live until last season. I finally got caught up with watching the first five seasons about the time that 'Promise' was airing live.
My friend recommended me to them just before 'Superman Returns' was coming out... so his recommendation on top of the publicity and excitement over Superman at the time got me interested in renting the first season.

lovesickness, funnily enough. I was totally depressed about a guy, and it's pretty bad, and then I "found" Tom Welling by accident over another site. I wrote some e-mails and figured out who he was, then researched the internet and found out he starrs in Smallville (I had no idea what that was). Then I entered a several weeks period of hours of Tom watching using primarily youtube, and thus getting over that guy. Tom Welling is the only man I have ever seen who is better looking that that guy, and just watching him actually helped. and when my brithday was coming up, I knew I simply had to get Smallville ... So Christmas 2007 I started reading Smallville fics (I like to read different fics) and thought....hmmm I need to watch S1. So I bought S2 aswell cos I knew if I got into it, I`d be through the first season in a nano second! Well, those story elements are a pretty big part of the first two seasons, so there's really not much to complain about other than maybe the very odd meteor freaks that would come around.
I'm in England so we have to wait to see the latest smallville episodes. I was going through the channels one day and found smallville, it was an episode in season 4 which i thought wasnt that good so i just flicked on. Anyways, i started seeing smallville more and more because it was properly being shown on channel 4 trying to catch up to the US current episode. I drifted in and out of some episodes and then got hooked. After watching what was left of season 4 i needed more! The US had started on season 6 and england wouldnt get season 5 for at least a month.
So i went online and downloaded alot of smallville. Thank god for torrents. I started from the beginning and watched seasons 1-5, i even watched 4 again. I caught up on 5 seasons in just over a month! Ever since i've been downloading them hours after they've been aired in the US via torrent sites and its been awesome! :)

I saw Superman Returns with my youth group on the day it came out (before then i had only seen the CR Superman 1) and SR got me hooked on Superman , about a week after that i was flipping through channels and i heard the name Clark Kent said , i went to see what it was, the episode was onyx and since i didn't know what smallville was ,i had first thought it was some kind of superman tv movie , well that episode got me interested ,and then the next night i saw Spirit ( one of the local stations where i live used to show smallville on saturday and sunday nights) and after that episode i was hook, i kept on watch the episodes the channel aired( i saw to the end of the fourth, and the week after they showed the pilot, at the time i didn't know what a pilot of a show was) I also got my parents to rent me the third season , ( that's all the had of smallville at the blockbuster i went to) and saw the whole season , by that time the six season was about to air ,but i couldn't see it ( cw is a cable station where i live and i don't have cable) so i started to look online and found all the episodes of the next 8 months ( thank the lord in heaven for youtube and limewire, and torrents) i have seen all the episodes of smallville now , and i have them all on my computer (and the second season DVD) and have been a steady watcher since season 6 . I voted for "other". The reason is because I saw like a hundred commercial promos for the show in September/October of 2001. So I waited till the very first episode was shown and immediately I was hooked for life. In Canada, we got so many promos of Smallville and that really said something: The show would be a success and a legend. And it is.
Otherwise, why promote the show so many times if it doesn't have promise? :)

I was flipping through the channels one night and the eppy "Relic" from season 3 was on. After watching that eppy I thought that this show looked pretty good, so I started watching it but then I stopped because of my classes I had at night but I picked it back up on the 5th season, which I was completly lost on. I have all the dvd's now so I can go back and get caught up.

I love Superman and also I saw the promos for Smallville and how it was to be the beginning of Kal-El's journey from his home planet Krypton to his adopted home planet Earth. And how he came into his powers and his adjustment to knowing he was not "normal".

I have always been a fan of superheros, Batman, X-Men, Spiderman and loved the first 2 Superman movies. When Smallville first came out I never had the time to watch. One night I saw TW on a Promo for the then WB and said I have to check this out. When I saw he and Lex were kinda friends I couldn't not watch. I have been addicted ever since. I know we all get annoyed with how the characters are portrayed by the writers sometimes, but I think the casting is just perfect. Tom is so great for the role and Lionel just gave me goosebumps when he was evil.
I ws feeling spontaneous and the cover of season one caught my eye at Target.
I'd never seen an episode before, but read a review of it, I think.
I was hooked.

I'm surprised that you liked the show based on seeing "Relic" as your first episode. That's not the finest Smallville episode out there to be sure.
Isn't that the episode with meteor freak Chrissy who never ages?

Nope that's Redux in season 2 you're thinking of, where Crissy sucks the life out of people so she can retain her youth.
Relic was the episode where Clark was getting flashbacks of the past of when Jor-El was on earth and fell in love with Lana's great-aunt Louise. I liked that episode, was pretty good.

I had never really heard much about Smallville when I first started watching the show. All that I knew was that a graduate from the small rural college that I attended had done some writing for the show, this was during the fourth season. What had kept me away from watching it originally was that I really didn't like the old Lois & Clark series, but I had a friend who was always into the whole Superman thing and he talked me into watching a few episodes. I was hooked right from the start. This friend was a big enough fan at the time to already own the first three seasons and he was good enough to let me borrow them. So over the course of about two months I watched all three seasons and in doing so even got my parents into the show. :)

Yeah, I nearly gave up on the show in Season 5, after the episode with Simone. But then things picked up with BrainIAC, in my opinion, the rest of the season, and I enjoyed Season 6 (probably my third-favorite season) to keep my interest going in the show.

I am constantly surprised by fans of the show who DON'T know the mythos of the characters. I mean, the only reason I started to watch Smallville was because I LOVED the mythos of Superman. And I knew the major (and most of the minor) parts of both the pre-crisis and the reboot mythos. So I watched with interest (at times waning interest) since the premiere.
I finally decide to join an online Smallville board (after my obsession with Xena and Gabrielle started to waned), and much to my surprise, there are people who don't know anything about the major plots, storylines and/or characters in the Superman mythos.
So here are my questions:
1. If the mythos is not the reason you started watching the show, then what made you start watching?
2. In EVERY incarnation of Superman, certain things have to happen. What is your list of those things?
3. Do you feel that fan's lack of knowledge of the mythos hurts or helps people to enjoy the show?
And I will start by answering my own questions:
1) I watched the show BECUASE of the mythos. The mythos was the reason I started to watch the show, and I wnated to see how the mythos was going to play out. I thought that season 3 was going to be my last season (I got sick of the soap opera known as Clana drama). But then I heard that a certain mythos characters were coming to the show, and I knew that the show HAD to stop stalling if it was going to be true to the mythos. So I continued to watch to see how it would all come together. Season 8 i the 1st season (in a very long time) that I can say I am TRULY enjoying what I am seeing on the screen.
2)My short list (and not in a particular order): Clark must learn about his powers and how to use them, Clark and Lana fall in love, Clark and Lana fall out of love but remain friends, Clark becomes a reporter, Calrk and Lex become friends and then bitter enemies, Clark is a do-gooder, Clark is becoming a hero, MA and PA Kent are Clark's heros, Clark and Lois meet, banter, argue, fall in love and get married, Lois is quick witted, has a razor sharp tongue and a never-quit-take-no-prisonsors attitude, Clark, Jimmy and Lois work toegether at DP, the Justice League will form, Clark will fly, Clark has weaknesses and he can die.
3) I think it hurts. People set themselves up when they don't have the knowledge of the mythos. I can hope all that I want that Lex will change, but I already know that he will be evil, and not just evil, but one of the baddest mother--------------- (shut your mouth), twisted individuals around. I may want Clark to only use superspeed, but I know that one day he will fly. I may want Clark to mess around with as many girls as he can (I know I would if I was him), but I know tht his true love will be Lois. I guess that is why I don't understnad how fans of the mythos can like the stalling attempts by Al/Miles. I think that is why I started to leave the show, they were stalling. They wanted to tell another story, a different story, but not the Clark becoming Superman story. And I'm not just talking about relationship drmam; I'm talking about use of powers, Clark developing his powers, Clark wanting to stay on the farm, Clark not growing up into a man. Between season 3-7, I truly couldn't believe that SV's Clark could become the mythos Superman. Now I have hope.

1) I only started because of the mythos. Ive been a lifetime Superman fan, but actually only started watching Smallville this year and have since seen every ep. I just assumed it was some teeny-bopper cross between Superboy and Dawsons Creek, but after picking up the first season cheap I was surprised at not only how good the show was but how well it handled the mythos. Things I thought were ridiculous when I first heard about the show, such as Lex and Clark being friends in Smallville, they did such a great job with that I would like to see them incorporated into the rest of the Superman universe.
2. Im pretty open here, not one of those fanboys that needs everything to follow the comics. As long as they capture the spirit of the Superman mythos and dont make any drastic changes, Im fine with it.
3. I imagine it would be less enjoyable for someone who isnt a fan of Superman to begin with. Half the fun of Smallville is the cheap thrills you get when a character from the Superman mythos makes an appearance and catching all the little fore-shadowing hints that are in pretty much every episode, as well as all the little nods and subtle references and guest stars to past Superman movies and shows.

The show has been set up so that you don't have to know anything about Superman's history - it is set before Superman came to be after all. I didn't know about Superman's mythos before I watched Smallville. I knew about the Chris Reeve films and had watched SR and the Justice League cartoon but that was about all I knew of Superman. I found the romance quite tense in SV's early seasons and liked his constant want to hide his abilities. It was awesome. I have however, come to respect Superman as a character.

I've always been a huge fan of the films plus I watched Lois and Clark off and on. All of my knowledge of the mythology came from the films, which is why I was surprised to find Pa Kent alive and kicking in LnC and (later) the comics!
The first 2 episodes of Smallville actually passed me by until I walked in one day to find my wife watching Hothead. When I realised it was a new show about Superman (or Clark Kent) I was instantly hooked. What really grabbed me was the idea of Lex Luthor and Clark Kent being friends - that idea was totally novel to me.
I now find myself with a much greater knowledge of the mythology of Superman (and the DC Universe as a whole) as a result of watching Smallville and being inspired to buy related graphic novels such as Superman for All Seasons. In many ways this has helped me to enjoy Smallville more, because I don't have any preconceived ideas of how characters like Mxy and Black Canary etc should be portrayed (ie. I'm not too precious with their history).

I just remembered that The Justice League cartoon did an episode about the origins of the JL's and their arch enemies. More often than not, they were friends turned into enemies.
That is how Superman and Lex were. They were childhood/teeage friends. Lex was a chemist and there was a fire. Superboy used his su[erbreath to put out the fire, but he accidently sent the flames and smoke towards Lex, causing LEx to lose all of his hair pernamently. Lex was so tortured about it that he and Supes became enemies.

I watched the show because I've been a Superman fan for a long time. However, I know very little about post-Crisis stories other than Doomsday, which I read a few years ago.
My list is pretty short: (a) Clark and Lois work together at the DP, eventually fall in love. (b) Clark is the person; Superman is the persona. (c) Lex wonders about CK but never knows for sure. (d) Clark's father dies before Clark graduates high school, which spurs him toward his destiny.
But I've really enjoyed SV Lex and Jonathan, so I mostly accept what TPTB have done.
Lack of knowledge probably helps.

It is quite embarassing.Even though i was a fan of the mythos and i knew that it was airing here in Greece i never sat down to watch it.One day i was flipping the channels and i bumped into the episode Heat.At first, the reason i was hooked was Krista Allen(who i had watched in certain other movies). But i came to like the show and haven't looked back since.I would have liked another visit from Desiree Atkins though...

1. I do remember seeing the ad's for it when it first started and it looked interesting but I never saw an episode until the week before super bowl 39 in 2005. With nothing on the sunday before the super bowl, I was flipping channels and ABC Family had a Smallville marathon. I stopped to check it out because I remembered the ad's I saw years eariler I started watching the marathon. The marathon started with the very 1st episode and had about 1 or 2 episodes from every season and it ended with "Covenant". I was hooked right there, I couldn't wait to see it that coming wednesday!! It took awhile but thanks to ABC Family I did see every single episode by the end of that year..
2. Clark getting a fortress, Clark becoming Superman, Clark and Lois starting a relationship
3. I'm not to sure about that. I kinda base the show on the Superman movies and not the comics, and I really have no idea about what happens to Superman throughout history in the comics..

I got into Smallville like that too, well, sorda. It was back in the days when ABC Family aired two Smallville episodes every Wednesday (was that the day?). Actually, before that. Occasionally, I would watch Smallville on smaller networks, but only for a few minutes. Then, on ABC Family one day, they were showing Reaper. For some odd reason, that episode made me want to start watching more episodes. (Which is funny, cause I hate that episode now.)
So, then, the next episode was Tempest. I started at the point when Clark and Chloe were dancing, and the principal said that there was a tornado warning. Then, when Lana was stuck between the tornadoes, I was like on the edge of my seat and I was so mad when it said, "TO BE CONTINUED". I was like 'NOOO!', lol.
So, then, I started buying the DVD's; Season Five being my first. Soon, I owned every season that was out at the time.
I seriously think buying Season Five dragged me in to watching it every Thursday, because I loved Season Five and I still do, because its my second favorite season.
1. If the mythos is not the reason you started watching the show, then what made you start watching?
I only started watching due to some interesting plots, mainly the Rebel clark, So I didn't know much of the Mythos revolving around Superman, I do now.. being here and all
2. In EVERY incarnation of Superman, certain things have to happen. What is your list of those things?
Clark to grow up and be a man, An ultimate battle, And lots of other itty bits
3. Do you feel that fan's lack of knowledge of the mythos hurts or helps people to enjoy the show?
Not really, The idea that everyone is criticizing the show hurts me though.. Just watch it and enjoy... not like a "DUDE CLARK SHOULD HAVE HAD PINK UNDIES ON HIS HEAD FOR 40 EPISODES" kinda of thing.. don't turn into a critic unless you'd like to become one.
I always loved Superheros as kid, and when I was like 12-13 years old I heard of smallville from my brother, he was into it.
I remember seeing a scene from Relic and got me totally confused, cause I thought Louis was Superman's Girlfriend, but in the episode they said she was Lana's Granma/Aunt and the Clark I thought was Clark, was, well Jor-El.
I had a WTF? :confused:face for a moment and then changed the channel.
I guess I was too young to care for a TV show, I still was into Cartoons by that time:o
Time passed and I caught it again on TV, the episode was Convent, and I watched it all this time, I remember being in Shock for the awesomeness of the last scene, I was like "" HoLy ****! Every one is dead!
and lucky for me, it was a re-run, so the next week was Season Four's premiere.
And so it begun! I started with Smallville, and then I fall in Loved with Everything that Superman is and represents.
Nowadays, I can pretty much thank Smallville for letting me enter to the Superman world in all it's forms: Tv shows, Movies, Comics, Cartoons, Action Figures, etc.:)

I'd seen enough of the "old Superman" series and movies to be interested in the early years. I don't read comics so the guest superheros and villians are important only if they are good on SV.
I used to enjoy the early development of Clark's powers as well as his pursuit of Lana. Now the show is more like "Lois and Clark" with Chloe on the side since everyone else is gone.
For those viewers who yearn for a series similiar to early SV with a reluctant hero and a ton of angst while he pursues the girl, I suggest "Chuck" on NBC.
I've watched SV since the Pilot and I think the main reason I stay a fan is to see how it ends because WE all know where it ends. I miss "good" Lana or pre-Reckoning Lana. Oh well.
