In my "Tess = Poor Man's Lex" thread i wrote that i thought/suspected Tess was just a copy of lex and a bad one at that. But i wasn't sure theen.

Now im sure! Unfortunately she seems to be more and more like lex.

With the threatening of people and strange unwanted curiosity and the classic "training at the mansion" routine and demanding stuff from people and the crystal/jor-el-doomsday-device-type thing crap and with the laptop and with the "showing up at places" and etc etc etc etc etc.... You guys know what i mean.

She's doing the things lex would do, just more poorly. Oh, And she doesn't have a penis.

I think tess is great. Sure she does have some things in common with lex, but the PS3 did bring her in as his replacement.

Oh, And she doesn't have a penis.

Why is that a detriment to her character? It makes her all the more sexy. If your that horny go look at tom welling or justin hartley.

I think Tess is doing the things Lionel would do. He was the first to clone someone. How about his DNA mixed with a woman's body and out comes Tess. That makes about as much sense (me being sarcastic)...Tess has a past with Ollie. She isn't anyone's clone. She is herself trained by a Luthor which would make her act like one.

Why stop there lets just say Lana="Poor man's Lex" or Lionel even. Sheesh. how would you rather Tess act?

I still don't get the "Oh, she doesn't have a penis" statement. Tess doesn't have penis envy, thank you very much.

One more piece of evidence that Tess=Lex: She got knocked out in this episode. A sure sign of Lexiness.

If she gets shot, then it's a sure thing.

no if she gets shot in detroit in the forehead and is shipped to smallville and survives THEN she is lex:rotfl:

Ok, first of all, no one said she was a clone! i said she was a COPY.
You know, like the writers are actually writing like they always used to with lex, just that now its a woman called tess.
In other words, she's a character clone, made by the writers.

And second of all, somebody didn't get the obvious joke about the penis thing.
My drawing koparison to that she is a version of lex, just without a penis, refering to that she's a female. thats it.

Just try this out people. imagine that everything taht happened in the episode with tess, including the dialogue, just swith out tess and put in lex there. you will find its EXACTLY the same as it would be with Lex.

My sister and I were talking about this.

I think that Tess isn't as emotionally invested in all of the people around her as Lex was. When he has a conversation with Clark there's so much going on beneath the words that effects Lex. But with Tess, she's unencumbered by all those emotions and so, she's free to be more objective.

Tess also seems to be having more fun than Lex was. Lex was all about power, control and finding the answers to all the questions he's had during the series. Finding answers centered around the Traveler near the end of Season 7. Even though Tess is all about finding Lex, she still seems to enjoy being editor of the Daily Planet. I guess maybe it's because she doesn't have all the relationship baggage that Lex had... but... she tries to catch flies with honey rather than controlling them with an iron fist. When I think of the way she was with Bette in "Plastique" or with Chloe in "Instinct." Lex would have just captured and/or killed Bette. Maybe he would even have tried capturing Chloe again. He wouldn't have been so sweet and charming.

So I see differences. And they are very compelling differences. That's not to say that I don't miss Lex or that the show wouldn't be good if he were around. I just see Tess as being different from Lex and very interesting in her own way.

I disagree that she is a "poor man's Lex. " She is Lex's protégé, so naturally she has many of his qualities. Yet, it is how she differs from Lex that make her interesting.

For example, in the episode "Plastique," one of Lex's former employees tells Tess that Lex would have "terminated" his project on the spot. To which Tess replies that she is not Lex, has never worked with these men, and can not trust that they are capable of seeing through her orders to her satisfaction. That in itself indicates that she is her own person, with her own mind. Maybe she gets her never-trust-anyone behavior from Lex, too, but her mentality is coming from a different place... she wasn't raised by Lionel Luthor, after all.

Hehheheh!

Maybe Lex always wanted to be a girl, and stored away some luthor DNA so that when he died he would be reincarnated as a woman!

or wait wait, maybe Tess is lex's sister!!!!!

Think about it, she came out of nowhere and took over one of the biggest conglomerates in the world of smallville. Some sort of will Lex had has to have said "tess will take over after i die/disappear/leave the series to pursue an acting career in movies.

And the only one he trusted is his long lost/found sister, beacause she's a luthor at heart and will run the company as he would!!

If this is the case the writes of the show are geniuses!!!

Oh wait, my imagination ran away! Im going to get it back, i think its somewhere at the top of my post:rotfl:

Well this is what i think about Tess Mercer. I believe she is Mercy Graves, Lex's bodyguard and assistant from the superman cartoons. In one of the cartoon episodes Lex goes missing and she requires the help of superman to help find Lex, it all seems similar, so i think Tess becomes Mercy graves. :)

Enough this is nothing but crappy writing. Seriously the writers are wasting a very good talent in Cassidy Freeman on this lazy style writing. It seems like all her lines have been recycled from old Lex script over the years.
