ABC has opted to not move forward with legal drama For the People, cancelling the series after two seasons.
The decision comes after the series received a surprise renewal last year following a so-so first season in the ratings. ABC reportedly likes the show creatively and wanted to see if it could get a bump through TGIT branding after debuting on Tuesdays in 2018. However, the numbers never came, with the show ranking as one of their lowest rated series, and executive producer Shonda Rhimes has moved on to Netflix and already has three shows on the network in Grey’s, Station 19, and How to Get Away with Murder.
From Paul William Davies (Scandal), For the People was set in the the Southern District of New York (SDNY) Federal Court, known as “The Mother Court,”and followed a group of prosecutors and public defenders as their paths crossed personally and professionally.
The series starred Britt Robertson, Hope Davis, Jasmin Savoy Brown, Ben Shenkman, Ben Rappaport, and Anna Deavere Smith.
The final episode of For the People is set to air Thursday, May 16th at 10:00 on ABC.
