Sean and Beverly’s time in the American television industry hasn’t exactly gone as they dreamed. Rather than finding the creative fulfillment, enhanced exposure, and sturdier bank accounts they thought they were chasing in Los Angeles, the duo have been up to their necks in meddlesome executives, lunkheaded talent, and cumbersome red tape, all of which have sapped their motivation. Working in England on Lyman’s Boys might not have made them millionaires or worldwide stars, but it was the type of experience they haven’t had since they’ve come to America, one in which they had control and autonomy of their creative output. But despite their frustration at what happened with Pucks! and The Opposite of Us, the two held out hope that their project with Matt was going to be their first real American success.

On the series finale of Episodes, Beverly and Sean are left recoiling upon learning that Matt passed on their show due to the quality of the script. Even after they succumbed to his demand for a co-creator credit, even after he came to them looking for ideas for the show he leveraged after the video scandal, the Lincolns are once again stuck as a result of the ease in which the former sitcom star can change his mind. Although they might be thinking of convincing him to come back into the fold, if only for the fact that his presence guarantees the show’s greenlight and subsequent producer fees and potential penalties if it fails, Beverly and Sean have to be mentally exhausted from the last two projects they’ve been involved with, so seeing a third storm coming could cause them to back out and spare themselves the frustration. Or at least try to sandbag the pilot casting and production in hopes of scaring the network off from picking it up. However, if they’re unable to wriggle out of this latest show they’ve set up, they could very well be left holding the bag, forced to create a show they never wanted and hope against hope that nobody watches.

Elsewhere on Episodes, Carol proceeds with her lawsuit against Helen and the network but soon realizes that victory will be much more difficult than she anticipated.

The series finale of Episodes airs this Sunday at 10:00 on Showtime.

What will Sean and Beverly do now that Matt has passed on their show? Would they be willing to work on getting the script more to his liking in hopes of getting the show made? Will Carol go through with the lawsuit even with her personal history probably coming up during the proceedings?
