According to The Hollywood Reporter, The CW has given a full season to freshman soap Dynasty, extending the initial 13-episode order to a full slate of 22. Meanwhile, fellow freshman Valor will wrap its first season with 13 episodes and, similar to No Tomorrow and Frequency last season, depend on its digital performance and how the CW midseason schedule fares for any chance at season two. There’s no word yet as to whether the military drama will film an epilogue like The CW’s fall freshman got last year, however.
Despite softer Live + Same Day Ratings than anticipated, Dynasty has two major things working for it – it’s produced by CBS Studios, which needs to have a presence on The CW due to being a 50/50 partner in the venture with Warner Bros., and it scored an extremely lucrative Netflix deal before airing an episode, a deal said to be bigger than what Riverdale got in season one. Though it’s not necessarily a guarantee of another season, particularly if The CW has a good midseason and ratings don’t solidify, a back order for Dynasty was a formality. What remains to be seen is whether it keeps the post-Riverdale slot or, considering that the two don’t have much of a relationship, The CW will want to try it on another night.
With decisions on Dynasty and Valor in, the freshmen still waiting on news of their fate are The Mayor, Kevin (Probably) Saves the World, The Brave, Wisdom of the Crowd, SWAT, and 9JKL.
Dynasty airs Wednesdays at 9:00 on The CW. You can check out a preview of tonight’s episode below.
