Doctor Who: Is Jenna-Louise Coleman The New Companion?

When it comes to casting Doctor Who, the actor playing The Doctor is a key ingredient, but just as important is the choice for the actor or actress to play the Doctor's companion.

Although there have been certain notable exceptions, such as William Russell, Frazer Hines, or more recently Arthur Darvill, the companion for the Doctor has, more often than not, been an attractive female... and with Darvill and Karen Gillan departing the TARDIS with the next season, the time has come to recruit someone new.

The BBC is said to be announcing the new companion for The Doctor at some point today (March 21), but several British tabloids claim to have the jump on things by suggesting that Jenna-Louise Coleman (Emmerdale) has nabbed the coveted companion role. The additional rumor that is circulating is that the new companion may not be human.

UPDATE: The BBC has confirmed the news!
